Season 5 of “NCIS: Los Angeles” may have just ended but fans are already looking ahead to next season. So what can we expect from our beloved NCISLA team during season 6? Let’s talk previews and spoilers.
Fortunately for us we have a few hints on what might happen thanks to social media posts from the cast and crew. Before leaving for summer hiatus, the cast filmed two episodes from season 6. With this season’s finale ending on a cliffhanger, it makes sense to film the next episode now to retain continuity. (That way no one’s hair is noticeably longer or their skin a lot tanner from summer vacations.) And they went one step further by filming a second episode for the upcoming season.
I can say this: It looks like we will see a lot of action to begin the next season. Think submarines, helicopters, explosions and a lot more.
Obviously the season premiere will pick up where the finale left off – trying to rescue Sam (LL Cool J) and Callen (Chris O’Donnell) from a moving submarine rigged to blow up. Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) will lead the search for their partners. And they will do at least part of that job from the air. Look for them to search the waters from a helicopter.
NCIS:LA Director Dennis Smith in Front of Water Tank Constructed for the Premiere |
When it comes to the submarine shots, the show’s crew filmed some of the episode from the ocean. And in addition, they actually built a water tank specifically for the premiere. It’s going to be fun to see how these shots look and how the water comes into play. Is it possible the sub could start to take in water? (As if the explosive material on board wasn’t bad enough.) Might we see Sam and Callen in the water instead of just the submarine? Consider this: A guest actor who plays one of the three bad guys on the sub had to shoot scenes in the water. Hmmmm. And during filming, LL Cool J posted the following picture on Instagram with the caption: “Getting wet between shots….long story…” Looks like the duo may be wringing out their clothes after this latest rescue.
For those wondering if Hetty (Linda Hunt) will be missing in action after she was sent to D.C. to answer for her Afghanistan decisions, we have some good news. Several different tweets during the week of filming show Linda Hunt was indeed back on set. Miguel Ferrer, who plays Granger, captioned the picture below, “Hetty and Granger are back.” And “NCIS: Los Angeles” director Dennis Smith, who directed the season 6 premiere, tweeted he was in the Operations Center with Granger and Hetty. (FYI, the second part of his tweet said, “Eric’s in big trouble!” What could Eric have done now?)
Miguel Ferrer: "Hetty & Granger are Back." |
Densi fans who want Talia (Mercedes Masohn) to disappear are out of luck, at least temporarily. She is back for “Deep Trouble Part 2.” And it appears she and Kensi aren’t quite done yet with their feud. Smith expressed happiness over the fact that he got to direct a “chick fight” in the episode. He also teased that Kensi was bonding with someone - but who? Could it possibly be Talia? Not sure about that one. I guess we will have to wait and see.
Kensi Can't be This Close to Talia, Can She? |
It sounds like the show went all out for the premiere. Executive producer John Peter Kousakis teased that filming took place on “one of the most spectacular NCISLA sets of all times.” And Smith said shooting the episode was like shooting a movie. With a submarine, helicopters, ocean views, chick fights and an impending rescue, we have a lot to look forward to!
Chris O'Donnell Directs an Upcoming Episode of Season 6 |
And it doesn’t stop there. In another episode to air next season, Chris O'Donnell stepped behind the camera to direct. (I am guessing we will see him in front of the camera as well.) This is not his first foray into directing. O’Donnell also directed an episode (“Wanted”) in season 4 where Sam’s wife resumed her former CIA cover to smoke out Russian arms dealer Isaak Sidorov and some stolen nukes.
In the O'Donnell-helmed episode, we can expect a big explosion at a boat pier. And for whatever reason, Kensi will be donning a hazmat suit. (Daniela Ruah posted a picture of herself having to put a microphone in her hair because of the suit.) While this episode was filmed after the premiere, it doesn't mean it will necessarily air as episode 2. The episode date and number has not been set yet and the show can sometimes switch these around from the order in which they were filmed.
One thing is for sure: “NCIS: Los Angeles” promises lots of action when it returns in September. When it does hit the airwaves again, it will be moving to a new night and time. In order to make room for the new spinoff, “NCIS: New Orleans” on Tuesdays, “NCIS: Los Angeles” will be moving to Mondays and airing an hour later at 10 p.m. EST.
What are you looking forward to in Season 6? Let us know in the comments below.
That was certainly smart to film those episodes now for two reasons: 1) the continuity; and 2) to spread the buzz - will need it to hype up the move to Monday night. I think LA will do just fine there - although I would've like to see them move it to Wed at 8.
ReplyDeleteWell, this all looks very promising... can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know the already shot a second episode for the season as well. Anyway, thanks for the spoilers!
ReplyDeleteYou're right. The buzz will definitely help them with the move to Mondays. (I wonder if they knew about the move in advance and if that affected their decision to film the episodes now. Who knows.) At first I wasn't thrilled about Mondays, either, but I think they will do just fine. Thanks so much for your comments!
ReplyDeleteMe, either. Thanks so much for your comments!
ReplyDeleteOh, I never saw anything about that. Thanks for letting me know. Do you know where you saw that?
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome. Thanks, Daniel!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review. You might find of interest another spoiler for season 6 twitted by JPK early on (April 12) where he twitted "#jpkteaser ingenious Kensi uses her head to set things staight! #ncislaS6 #staytuned #worththewait" As all spoilers, this is ambiguous and might not even stay in the episode by the time it airs, but if it does refer to the first episode of season 6, by its content it might refer to 'set things straight' in relation to Hetty's deserved trouble (which would be exceedingly kind of Kensi considering the utterly disgraceful way Hetty dealt with her before, during and after her ordeal in Afganistan); or 'set things straight' with Deeks, or Talya, or the situation of Sam and G. No matter what it is I am glad that, at least in purpose, they are referring to Kensi's mind rather than her rather magnificent physical attributes as solving a problem.
ReplyDeleteLooks very promising cat fight, Kensi bonding with someone , boat explosions .. all hell breaking in loose. Is it September yet
ReplyDeleteFunny, but I actually like Talia. She makes Deeks and Kensi uncomfortable. :)
ReplyDeleteHey dudette - Now I REALLY can't wait until next season! I agree that NCISLA will do fine on Mondays. I still wish it were at the earlier hour, but it certainly won't make a difference in my watching it. Have you been on @DensiLand's site? She's got some good stuff over the hiatus. Her episode recaps of previous seasons are fun to go through. Thanks for your terrific reviews and insights on our favorite show. :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on that spoiler. Ooooh that sounds interesting. Yes, that could mean numerous things, couldn't it? Hetty or Deeks or Talia or Sam and Callen. Now I'm eager to see which one it refers to. And like you say, nice to see them refer to her mind in addition to her "rather magnificent physical attributes." Ha ha. So true. Thanks for commenting and letting me know. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jack! You're right - this show's fan base is definitely very loyal. And yes, my skills as a social media stalker (errr, investigative reporter :) ) were definitely put to use this time. Ha ha. Thanks for your comments. Have a great summer!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I can't wait for September, either! Thanks for your comments!
ReplyDeleteYou know, after seeing the finale, I agree! Talia making Deeks and Kensi uncomfortable was enjoyable to watch. :) Thanks for your comments.
ReplyDeleteHi Tonya, I'm back and I wanted to thank you for letting me know about the post in another comment, I'm glad I've given you this idea. Great review as always!
ReplyDeleteI'm very excited about what is to come next season, by spoilers that we were shown everything indicates that the season will start in great and I hope it stays that way! I hope that Sam and Callen come out unscathed from the submarine, and am very anxious to know if during this upcoming season something new will happen with Kensi and Deeks.
There are so many expectations and is hard to know that just in a few months is that I know more about what's going to happen. Going on shortly, I've never been so excited for September, until passed without a break from school so I could see this new season!
Hello! I'm so sorry for the absence. I went on a little extended weekend out-of-town trip for a family wedding and got crazy busy before leaving and once I got back. Still have quite a bit to catch up on, including answering your last wonderful post to me on the finale. I haven't ignored it. I will do that soon! Haven't checked DensiLand's site lately so will have to do that, too. Thanks for the heads up. Love sharing info and chatting about our show! (Oh, and yes, I agree about NCISLA on Mondays. It should do fine but I will miss its old slot.) Hope you had a great holiday weekend!
ReplyDeleteI somehow didn't see your comment, Catarina. Thanks for posting and sorry for the delay in responding. I really appreciated the idea you gave me. Lots of others enjoyed the benefits of it, too, so way to go! I'm excited for next season. September seems like such a long time to wait. But it does look like the season will start out great. :) I too am curious if something will happen with Kensi and Deeks this next season. (I hope so!) Hope the time passes quickly. Hope you have a great summer break from school. :)
ReplyDeletei think the woman who partner with deeks should be a regular
ReplyDeleteYou liked her? Oh good. I actually think she does a nice job in the role. But I don't think she will be back past the first episode of the season. You never know, though. Thanks for your comments!
ReplyDeleteI really like Talia to, can we keep her and ship Densi to NCIS for Tony D...
ReplyDeleteMy concern is that NCIS:LA will NOT do well against Monday night Football. I personally only watch when my team plays.
ReplyDeleteI also have concerns for the other Monday night showing of Castle which I also love will be be affected by the Monday night move of NCIS:LA.
I actually catch my shows online as I am a truck driver and am only able to get online about once every week or so. So I can see all of them, but I am concerned that two popular shows on Monday night against each other and MNF will somehow affect both shows.
I guess I will have to wait and see what the ratings are after a few weeks.
Ha ha. Tony does need a love interest. ;)
ReplyDeleteHad forgotten about Monday Night Football. Yeah, that will be tough. And I watch Castle, too, so the doubling up of good shows on that night is a bummer! I also watch a lot of TV online so it may not affect me as much. But I am interested to see what happens with the ratings, too. I don't think NCISLA will get as big of numbers as before but I do think it has a loyal following that should keep it thriving. We will see. Thanks so much for your comments.
ReplyDeleteTo me, moving the show to another night & later sounds like the network may be hinting that S6 is the last season. I can't stand the Granger character. The character, as written, adds nothing positive to any of the storylines. I keep hoping that he dies.
ReplyDeleteMonday Night Football starts around 7:30 p.m.-7:40 p.m. CT, and games normally end around 11:00 p.m. CT. So, POI--in your suggestion--would be affected, just like Castle is.
ReplyDeleteTime to put Deeks and Kensi together. I am kind of at the end of my last straw with these producers.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the Granger character, either. He really hasn't added anything positive to the storylines. If they're going to keep him around, they have to give him some redeeming qualities. As it is, he doesn't have many now. I think the network decided to move the show to another night and time because they wanted the big NCIS lead-in numbers to help ring in the new NCIS spin-off (NCIS: New Orleans.) They figured that NCIS: LA does well enough that it could stand on its own. I hope they're right. I really think it will do okay with a lot of fans but we will see. Fingers crossed. :) Thanks so much for your comments.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been interesting to see all the NCIS shows on one night, definitely. And I loved NCIS: LA on Tuesdays. It was the perfect night. Now it definitely has more competition. And Monday Night Football is tough, along with Castle. I hope fans continue to tune in. I think they will - maybe not with the huge numbers it got before, but I think they will be okay. Only time will tell but you're right - it's a great show, so we just have to keep watching. :) Thanks for your comments.
ReplyDeleteAny show put on that night has tough competition! I hope everyone keeps watching. :)
ReplyDeleteThey should follow suit of British soap operas. By which i mean over three channels they show each one after the other and hardly over lap each other during the air time. Luckily i don't have to suffer the same predicament in choosing what i would prefer to watch. I am looking forward to both NCIS/LA shows to return to screens here.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until the new season! But I do have to say that I'm pissed about the new spin-off. We were promised NCIS: Red and then poof! It was gone. Now they have a new NCIS spin-off. Don't get me wrong, I love Scott Bakula (He was amazing in Chuck), but I really hoped that they would give NCIS: Red a chance.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I have a DVR. I'm bummed it will air against Castle. We have two TVs so the hubby can watch his football and I can watch my shows. I'm going to have to pick one though and watch the other later.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of tired of this back and forth with Kensi. So far, it's been tolerable and it was interesting to watch as they slowly started opening up to one another and realizing things, but now the cats basically out of the bag. I mean, he kissed her and we can only assume they had sex that night after dinner. What more can he do? I kind of like Talia as a guest. I like how she got under Kensi's skin. I'm eager to see how they save Sam and Callen. Should be an epic premiere.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I missed your comment, sorry. I agree! It's definitely time to put them together. If they drag it out too long it just makes fans MAD!!! (And they miss a good opportunity for story.) Thanks for commenting!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the delay in replying. Somehow didn't see your comment. I didn't know that's how they did British soap operas. So interesting! Yeah, I wish they'd do that in the U.S.! I am also looking forward to both of the shows' return (NCIS/LA) in the fall! Thanks for your comments.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't know what happened with that (NCIS: Red). And this new NCIS spin-off just kind of came out of nowhere. But hopefully it will be good. I can't wait until the new NCIS: LA season, too! Thanks for your comments. :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the back and forth with Kensi. Yes!! The cat is out of the bag so why are they on hold? This whole "he's scared then she's scared" thing has to end soon. It's quickly getting old. Love your whole sentence "he kissed her and we can only assume they had sex that night after dinner. What more can he do?" Totally agree!! And I also thought it was fun to see Talia as a guest getting under Kensi's skin. That was amusing! I hope it is indeed an epic premiere. Can't wait. Thanks so much for your wonderful thoughts!
ReplyDeleteLoving your reports :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Natalie!
ReplyDeleteThey could take off NCIS New Orleans and I wouldn't miss it at all. It seems like they have only made 10 episodes or so and they keep rerunning them over and over. They did have a new one the other day and it was the first episode I have liked. I can't get interested in the storylines. I would love to have NCIS Los Angles moved back to the original night.
ReplyDeleteI know - I stopped watching NCIS New Orleans. It wasn't as good as the others. Glad to hear you liked one of the episodes, though. I still love NCISLA on its original night, too. But I don't think they'll move it back.
ReplyDeleteI wish they would move NCIS LA back to Tuesday's too. We have Castle that I have watched from the beginning and now I don't want to stop watching it. I guess I mean I won't stop watching it at all. NCIS LA being up against Castle makes it hard so now I have to record NCIS LA and I am always forgetting to watch the shows after they record. It was so nice when they had NCIS original on Tuesday with NCIS LA coming right after the original was over. They let COTE slip away and then moved NCIS LA to another night and not happy over either. Just cancel New Orleans and move it back and no problems. I would be a happy camper.
ReplyDeleteI watch Castle, too, so I understand. I just do the opposite of you - I watch NCIS:LA live and then Castle taped. It was definitely a good mix when NCISLA followed the original, but it seems to be doing okay on Mondays now. I understand your frustration, though. You just have to somehow find a way to remember to watch your recordings. :)
