Nashville - Renewal Pending Over Episode Order Discussions
Nashville had been fully expected to get a third season renewal. I hear that indeed is the intention, though the size of the pickup is the subject of a debate. I hear ABC has offered a 13-episode order for the show, which is co-produced by Lionsgate TV and ABC Studios. Nashville is a very expensive show, so I hear the 13-episode pickup makes its production infeasible for Lionsgate. Talks continue.

Okay, so last season then. I could accept that.
ReplyDeleteAt least it would get renewed!!
ReplyDeleteThis is exhausting to wait for :( Surely the show makes a lot of money too? Sell out concert tour, plus the albums.
ReplyDeletethey should just cancel it at this point...
ReplyDeleteI really hope it comes back, the finale we're getting just doesn't seem enough to sort everything out. This is exhausting!
ReplyDeleteWhy?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it's going to end on a cliffhanger.
ReplyDelete1) the ratings are horrible for the show
ReplyDelete2) the show is expensive
3) by making it only 13 eps it will take much longer for it to reach 88
So that is code for Lionsgate is losing money on the show and needs syndication money to turn a profit, and with only 13 episodes for season 3, syndication because doubtful.
ReplyDeleteToday so many of my favorite shows were cancelled. Please at least renew Nashville
ReplyDeleteI know. We have the proposal, the whole Juliette and Avery dilemma and Will's sexuality issues.
ReplyDeleteI hope they at least get to wrap everything up.
ReplyDeletePlease, please renew this ABC, there's so much cancellations today, and all my friends are going to wonder what's wrong with me, but I'm too attached to my shows :( .I love this show and amazing music!
ReplyDeletePerhaps Lionsgate could approach Netflix or Amazon and try for the "Under The Dome" deal to make up for the loss of syndication money.
ReplyDeleteI kind of agree. Unless it's getting a full season (so it's closer to syndication), I really don't see the point in renewing it.
ReplyDeleteReading the article, the entire blame can't go to ABC if Lionsgate is not willing to accept a 13 episode order.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah definitely, I completely understand, but it's still ad nonetheless, especially if it ends on a cliffhanger, which it may.
ReplyDelete*hides in the bushes* How about we see where this one goes.
ReplyDeleteI would think CMT would pick up Nashville regardless of the amount of episodes.
ReplyDeleteCome on abc renew it.Why I'd there an issue over episode order?Isnt/Wouldn't abc trying to get it to syndication especially since they co-own/co-produce it?
ReplyDeleteI'm rather full, so we'll see what happens.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing because if they can't agree on episode order, they can't renew it yet.
ReplyDeleteI hope things work out so that, at the very least, we get a resolution to the storylines. Admittedly, it hasn't been must-see-tv for me as of late, but I would still like the closure since I do still watch.
ReplyDeleteHoping for the traditionnal 22 episodes, c'mon Lionsgate!!
ReplyDeleteHope they can work it out!
ReplyDeleteI know they /won't renew til an episode order is decided but my questions are 1.Wouldnt it be cheaper to produce 13 episodes of an exspensive show rather than 22 so why is it "I feasible for Loinsgate to do 13"? 2.Why would it get 13 episodes?Isnt abc trying to get it to syndication since it co owns/co produces it?
ReplyDeleteless eps means less money they could earn from commercials
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean that it could be cancelled if Lionsgate doesn't accept the deal? I hope not...
ReplyDeleteyes it means they will cancel unless a deal is made
ReplyDeleteSyndication is why Lionsgate wants 22 episodes. If they were smart, they could try to sell the show now to CMT or make an exclusive streaming deal with Amazon or Netflix like Under The Dome, the episode of UTD is on Amazon four days after it airs on CBS.
ReplyDeleteBrandy, to answer your question, ABC Network and ABC Studios are two different entities.
ReplyDeleteThe ABC Studios are the ones co-producing, and they are the make money from syndication.
The ABC Network can only profit from ad revenue, which in the case
of Nashville is super low. They have no stake in the money made from
syndication. Unless they can get the studio to reduce the license fee or shorten the episode order, in they minds they can't afford to pay the license fee for 22 episodes.
They have a deal with Hulu to stream full seasons already in place.
ReplyDeleteOk than Lionsgate should ask Hulu if they would like to get new episodes four days after they air on ABC, and redo the deal if they can. Amazon reportedly pays about 750,000 an episode for Under The Dome in order to have episodes four days after they air on CBS.
ReplyDeleteOkay...I was thinking about showing mercy and just wounding it for a reduced order, now they're thinking of going for a full season. Someone is taking advantage of my generosity.
ReplyDeleteCome on 22 episodes! Then Season 4 will be so much more likely :)
ReplyDeleteYess I knew it.come on two give it 22 !
ReplyDeleteYou still have the CBS cancellations yet...
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why they dont put season 1 on Netflix. Most other ABC shows are there, and the second they go up I will catch up and become a viewer.
ReplyDeleteTax credits huh...so this is what it takes to keep a show on air these days, lol.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, CMT doesn't pay as much as TNT or more mainstream syndication channels.
ReplyDeleteHappy but its a shame that it is expensive to produce, never would have thought. They need to put this show in a better time slot and yes Netflix season 1, really? this is a really good show and I wish they would try to promote it better. Plus I really hope it gets full episode renewal, this is the one show of mine i've been very nervous about all day.
ReplyDeleteThink there was a rumor that the show might leave Nashville and move to Texas over the tax credit issue. Also we are talking about saving something along the lines of 250,000 an episode
ReplyDeleteI think that may annoy some folks IN nashville. But if it keeps the show on air...
ReplyDeleteFans like me will just happy its on.
ReplyDeleteIt won't be just "omg it's not authentic now!!!11" but jobs around the area in Nashville, etc.
ReplyDeleteThere is no guarantee the show ends up TNT for syndication.
ReplyDeleteIs Nashville that expensive?
ReplyDeleteYou would think they'd worked out the state credit/budget numbers by now. It's almost as if - OMG it's "renewal" day so let's start negotiations!
ReplyDeleteHah, Renewal Day. I kinda want to make that an international holiday now :P
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's the last resort thing? Or well, you could move the show to Texas as someone else said.
ReplyDeleteSeason 1 of Nashville is on Netflix
ReplyDeleteAll I know is certain states like North Carolina want to get rid of tax incentives all together. There were rumors that shows would move from NC to Georgia for example. Let's say Texas is willing to give the show a tax credit of $500,000 an episode and Tennessee is $300,000 an episode, than the show could save $200,000 an episode.
ReplyDeleteWhile season 2 has struggled with some of the storylines (for example, they have assassinated the character of Scarlett, who is unbearable at this point), the music of the show continues to be incredible, as recently demonstrated by the Nashville On The Record concert, with the cast singing songs from the show live and doing an amazing job at it. Plus Connie Britton and her beautiful hair can justify a season renewal.
ReplyDeleteno one really about CBS shows getting cancelled or not though
ReplyDeleteI would love an announced final season, whether 13 or 22 episodes. I just want a good ending!
ReplyDeleteNo, they took the show down a while back :/
ReplyDeleteThey better renew!
ReplyDeleteIt's still on the Canadian Netflix guess the American one is different.
ReplyDeletelucky! hopefully they get it back soon.
