In The Flesh - Episode 2.05 - Advance Preview + Teasers
May 27, 2014
In The Flesh Reviews SSAfter reading in the Radio Times this week that Simon is ordered by the Undead Prophet to kill Kieren in order to instigate the Second Rising, I was a bit fearful of what might happen in this episode. The flashbacks we saw in the promo and sneak peek hint at how and why Simon became radicalised, if he was experimented on in the way it seems he was then it is no wonder that he wants to fight back against those that tortured him and his kind. But surely he won’t seriously be considering carrying out this task that is asked of him will he?
Kieren's story takes a bit of a back seat this week while we mainly focus on Simon’s past; what drove him to believe, and start following, the Undead Prophet. His past experiences and the experiments at the treatment centre in Norfolk play a very critical role in this as you’d imagine, but his relationship with his family is very important too. Emmett Scanlan is outstanding this week as we get to see a very different side to his character, he’s far more vulnerable and scared than we’ve ever witnessed before. Steven Robertson also deserves high praise for his portrayal of the aloof and methodical Doctor John Weston who invented Neurotriptyline; also, after the Being Human easter egg a couple of weeks ago it’s great to have Mr Rook himself appearing!
Amy and Philip are both still feeling pretty much ostracised from their own natural groups, so find themselves thrown together on one of Amy’s ‘crazy’ daytrips out where they can spend time alone getting to know each other better. The ex-councillor is far more attentive to her troubles than just about anyone else has been so far this season, and in return she brings him out of his stuffy, conservative persona showing him how to have fun. You can’t help feeling that they are an ideal partnering; in fact there is a delightful moment during their ‘date’ which I dare anyone not to find adorable! However, this is balanced out later on when things take a serious turn for the worst as Amy makes a distressing proposal which leaves Philip in a quandary.
Episode 5 airs at 10pm on Sunday 1st June on BBC Three and BBC Three HD, and on Saturday June 7th on BBC America at 10pm/9c. Below are a few dialogue teasers to see you through until then, don't forget to come back to vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.
“Ever since that night I saw you rise out of that grave you've been a torment to me”
“You wanted to see how he’d react, he’s reacting. Everyone happy with the test subjects emotional response?”
“Good work Captain. Did you read this?”
“You promised they wouldn't see me like this, you promised”
“He’s not turning Rabid, he’s just upset, he’s had some bad news”
“Do we have a problem? Do. We. Have. A. Problem?”
“That’s a new look you’re rocking, very handsome, handsome. Does he like it?”
“You and that Irish one broke into the GP’s and let lose Rabids that mauled the receptionist”
“Yes, at one time he was unbalanced, but he’s back to normal now”
“It’s happening all over again Sue, someone puts a spell on him and it ends in disaster”

I so want to talk about this episode, so many little things are revealed or hinted at!! lol
ReplyDeleteTHOSE DIALOGUE TEASERS. is it amy who says the "new look" line?
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed, well done ;)
ReplyDelete“Do we have a problem? Do. We. Have. A. Problem?” line is said by Simon?
ReplyDeleteThe first and last ones are incredibly sad and they do tell a lot. No wonder Simon & Kieren have been both that depressed.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid not. Simon is very different in this episode to how we've seen him before, there's not a lot of confidence in him at all, it's quite sad to watch :(
ReplyDeleteI agree, both Dom Mitchell and the actors do an incredible job don't they, I love the material can be a metaphor for so many other things.
ReplyDeleteI could see a few different people saying the "Do we have a problem?" line. But I'm going to hazard a guess at the Undead Prophet perhaps?
ReplyDeleteIt's someone very close to him, it's a new character in the show so I think it's probably a hard line to guess.
