Hart of Dixie - Episode 3.20 - Together Again - Review: Where is Walter Wallen?

After last week’s emotional and angst-filled episode, this week we got much lighter fare and the usual BlueBell shenanigans. Friendships were highlighted, and some old romantic doors were hopefully shut for good. And everyone seems to be moving forward and things are slowly getting back to as close to normal as they can in BlueBell.

The stars have finally aligned, but… Zoe is troubled that Wade is still upset with her following his break up with Vivian. Lemon is irate with George because their customers are canceling their reservations due to the C they received from the health inspector after his human ice cream sundae incident in their kitchen. Zoe seeks out George to give her an idea of how to make Wade realize she is his friend. George is distracted by his own problem of trying to track down a restaurant reviewer to get him to review Fancie’s and fix his problem with Lemon. Even though Zoe dismissed George’s idea as being ridiculous, she sensed that it could also be the solution to her problem with Wade. Zoe follows George to a restaurant outside of BlueBell where they think they’ve discovered the food blogger, Walter Wallen, eating at a nearby restaurant. After a clumsy accident, they introduce themselves to “Walter Wallen”, and offer him a ride to BlueBell so he can review the Rammer Jammer and Fancie’s. Things don’t go smoothly when their passenger takes off in George’s truck after asking them to stop to attend to a deer leaving them stranded 11 miles from BlueBell without their phones. Things go from bad to worse when Rudy Truitt drives by and offers them a ride. Instead of taking them back to BlueBell, he takes them to the Truitts’ place so they can have a talk about punishing George and Zoe for the way things went with Tansy and Joel. George and Zoe turn the tables on the Truitts when they claim they are the true victims, and love is the guilty one. When the Truitts sympathize and wonder about Zoe and George’s poor broken hearts, Zoe declares that their hearts are mended because they are now in love with each other before kissing George. George and Zoe hightail it out of their while the Truitts start to gather supplies to celebrate George and Zoe being in love. While George and Zoe walk back into town, they talk about the kiss and the fact that they are both single at the same time. They could easily stop looking for others and be together, but neither one wants easy. They resolve to be friends while questioning the other if the only motive behind everything they did for Wade and Lemon was friendship.

Everything is perfectly lined up for George and Zoe to finally be together, and once again they didn’t go down that path. This episode truly felt like the final closure for George and Zoe as a viable romantic option in the future. Even more it seemed to cement the fact that the couples moving forward will be George/Lemon and Zoe/Wade. I will admit that I groaned the minute that George mentioned that they should probably talk about the kiss. I was thinking here we go again and rolling my eyes at the Zeorge door being opened when it has seemed closed for so long. In the end they resolved it nicely, and I do like George and Zoe as friends. They do make a good team when the focus isn’t on them trying to be romantically interested in one another. So hopefully this will be the last we have heard of “Zeorge” and long live “Lemorge” and “Zade”.

Carpe chicken wing. While checking up on Wade once again following his break up with Vivian, Lemon suggest to Wade that what they both need is a day of fun. She is even willing to let Wade pick the first place they will go just so long as it isn’t a strip club. Maybe she shouldn’t have been so quick to veto a strip club because Wade’s choice was a creepy taxidermy shop that also serves chicken wings. While they are contemplating leaving, Lemon overhears a gentleman ask for directions to a restaurant in Fairhope which leads her to believe that he is Walter Wallen, the food blogger. When Lemon mentions how much Walter Wallen can do for restaurants, Wade suggests that he also wants him to review the Rammer Jammer which would be a problem since Walter Wallen never reviews more than one place in the same town. Wade plays the broken heart card which forces Lemon to agree that she and Wade would work together to get a review or nothing. After they introduce themselves to the reviewer, they take him back to BlueBell where he visits both Fancie’s and the Rammer Jammer. Wade and Lemon talk each other up, and the reviewer agrees to write a review for both restaurants. Even a good day off with Lemon still wasn’t enough to take Wade’s mind off of his break up with Vivian. While sharing a bottle of whiskey, Lemon points out to Wade that he shouldn’t blame Zoe for his break up and that the only thing she did wrong was being a witness to his heart being crushed again which probably reminds him of how much power she has over his heart in the first place.

Lemon said it best; even as competitors they make great partners. The Lemon and Wade friendship is truly one of the great gems of this show. Lemon and Wade bring out another side of one another that is great to see. The genuinely care for one another and will always have the other’s back no matter what. It goes to show that not every great relationship on this show has to be romantic. And as Wade’s friend, Lemon knows what is truly bothering him and doesn’t worry about telling him like it was.

Meet the parents. AB runs into Lavon in town and reveals to him that Davis is going to meet her parents, and as it turns out Davis also gets to meet Lavon since he comes up as they are talking. AB’s parents see Lavon as they are leaving the Butterstick Bakery and despite their best efforts they can’t be angry at him. AB and Davis have an awkward first meeting with her parents when Davis doesn’t seem to share the same love for football that they do. They quickly make their excuses and instead of going to take a nap, they show up at Lavon’s place to hang out with him. They are having such a great time catching up with Lavon that they forget that they are supposed to be back at AB’s for dinner and the chili that Davis is making. While on the phone with her mom, AB over hears Lavon in the background and tells her mom that their invitation has been revoked. Davis seems to be understanding that AB’s parents know Lavon a little better and assures AB that they will have time to get to know one another. AB heads over to Lavon’s and tells him that even though he didn’t intend to be in the middle that he still was, and it was making it difficult for Davis to be the boyfriend following Lavon. Lavon ends up breaking up with AB’s parents by telling them that they should give Davis a chance because AB deserves better than him. The next day, Davis seems to hit it off with AB’s parents over breakfast and even brings up the fact that he doesn’t love orcas as much as he loves their daughter.

We got to see a lot more of AB and Davis in a relationship this week. And while Davis is sweet, this just isn’t working for me. Something felt off in their interactions. Things are also moving way too quickly. It seems like AB has gone the complete opposite of Lavon as far as pacing a relationship. Davis is already throwing around the L word freely to her parents. They haven’t even been dating 2 months yet so it seems a bit soon for that to me. I liked Lavon a lot this week. He was considerate of AB’s feelings and did his best to make things right for her. That is the least he can do after the way things ended between them.

Bringing up baby. Wanda is depressed that her attempts at baby making were unsuccessful. She decides that she’ll settle for a baby goat instead of taking another ride on the crazy train with another round of fertility drugs. Tom is alarmed and brings Brick in to help when Wanda begins to push the onsie-clad baby goat around town in a baby stroller. Meanwhile, Shelby breezes back into town and brings along her adorable baby, Ethel. When Brick offers to take her out to dinner, Shelby mentions that it needs to be somewhere baby-friendly. No problem, Brick hopes that having Wanda and Tom babysit an actual baby will make Wanda realize that she still wants to keep trying to have a human baby instead of settling for a one of the furry variety. Over dinner Shelby complains about how hard her life is now that she is a mom. She also reveals that she returned to try to reunite with Brick who wasn’t receptive to the idea. Even though Brick doesn’t want to take Shelby back, he promises her that the good far outweighs the bad in parenthood which reassures her. Tom and Wanda have a tough time at first with baby Ethel until they realize that as Shelby’s daughter she responds well to singing. When Shelby and Brick return to pick up the baby, Wanda is reluctant to hand her over and offers to work out an agreement where she keeps the baby and Shelby can take the goat. After some coaxing, Wanda hands over the baby and realizes that she still wants a baby of her own after all.

This was a cute side story. They seemed to have closed the door on a Shelby and Brick reunion with Brick telling Shelby that he is happier without her and that they aren’t meant to be. It really seemed like Shelby only leaned on Brick because it was easy for her. I wonder if next season or before the end of this season if we’ll have news of a Tonda baby.

Final thoughts. At first this seemed like yet another filler episode although enjoyable. The last third of the episode turned a corner though and moved some storylines along and closed the door on Zeorge and Shelby/Brick. Zoe and Wade didn’t end this episode fully making up, but there definitely seems to be something there as there was with George and Lemon in their last scene together. There was a running theme in this episode of people dealing with easy vs hard. For Wade it is easier to blame Zoe for his break up with Vivian than to face the fact that he still loves her giving her the power to hurt him again. Zoe set out to work hard to show Wade that she cares about him, but she won’t admit to herself or to anyone why it is so important to her for things to be fine between her and Wade. George is in the same boat as Zoe. He still has feelings for Lemon, but he doesn’t want to admit it. Lemon seems to be oblivious, but she was also greatly bothered by the idea of George’s sexcapade and even brought it up again when she showed him the review for Fancie’s. Lavon is finally realizing that AB deserved better. And Brick didn’t fall back into the trap of falling for Shelby again. It finally seems like things are back on track in BlueBell, and everyone is at least heading in the right direction after floundering all season long.

What are your thoughts on this episode? Were you happy to see the Zeorge door closed? Is there hope for Zade and Lemorge before the end of this season? Are things moving a little too fast between AB and Davis?

Next week Zoe plays matchmaker for Earl who I’m sure will have is Zade shipper hat on. Lavon needs George’s help with another issue involving Filmore. And Lemon tries to raise Fancie’s profile.
