Talking to Digital Spy Bryan Fuller said...
"I hear very positive things," Fuller told Digital Spy. "All of the creatives at NBC are so supportive of the show and want it back, and the schedules and salespeople are like, 'It's a new show, get rid of it'. We are banking on the creative people winning out over the salespeople.
"The ratings are not anything to jump up and down about, but the critical acclaim is great, and we're sort of a prestige project for the network, so we're hoping that's enough, like it was last year. There have been indications that it will be."

I haven't catch up with season 2 yet, but I hope it gets renewed! It was about time a Bryan Fuller show got to a 3rd season :D
ReplyDeleteYeah, all showrunners are confident that their shows will be renewed.
ReplyDeleteThere's no reason not to renew it, the ratings have been exactly the same since season 1. I'm confident as well.
ReplyDeleteC'mon, just renew it, NBC!
ReplyDeleteThat's not exactly a positive indication. If anything, most shows should rise, not stay at "exactly the same". Even if the ratings are good enough for a third season, costs do go up season-to-season.
ReplyDeleteSeason 1 was good but this season is amazing so it will be a real shame if it's not renewed!
ReplyDeleteI thought that Hannibal was canceled after episode 4 for a moment and I tweeted my sorrys to Bryan Fuller and he blocked me XD Then I realized it hadn't been canceled and I feel like an ass about it forever :D I am confident of S3 too and I love this series and support everyone responsible for making this awesome series :)
ReplyDeleteI hope he is right. I would love another season of Hannibal. There is no other show like it.
ReplyDeleteHe blocked you because you said sorry to him? Holy shit, that's escalating it.
ReplyDeleteNBC could use all the critical acclaim it can get it's hands on, is all that'll I say about it. I mean first of all is a new show on Friday going to do any better? Probably not. Second of all, I'm sure all the backend stuff such as streaming deals, iTunes and DVD's will help bump up the numbers at the end of the day. Besides all of that isn't SVU like the only show on the network currently that has more than six seasons under it's belt, isn't that a little odd for one of the original 3 US broadcast stations?
ReplyDeleteWell imagine if someone told you "sorry you got fired" while you're worrying about the future of your job.
ReplyDeleteRatings almost never rise season to season on broadcast networks, not during this modern time. A show like scandal is a very rare exception
ReplyDeleteIn this case, the costs are not supported by NBC, it's an international co-production. The show is payed by foreign investors( european mostly) and it's being sold in a very larger number of countries even before it aired on NBC.
ReplyDeleteAdd to that NBC spend zero money on the publicity, since all the promotion is made through social networks like twitter, facebook or tumblr...
That the show is critically acclaimed by almost every US critic.
And the ratings are stable.
There's no reason to not renew Hannibal.
I see what you mean, but I still think ignoring it would be a much better option than actually going to the extent of blocking him. He didn't even badmouth the series if I understand it correctly. He tweeted he was sorry (a simple misunderstanding), and gets a block in return? Dayum.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was hoping a short season and good reviews could make a lot people get caught up.
ReplyDeleteFair enough :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should check it out myself, then. Zero promotion and critical acclaim is not something I usually hear about in the same topic :P
I really tweeted something like 'sorry to see your show Hannibal get canceled it is great, I'm a fan and I'm sad' or something like that but maybe he thought I was being a prick. Anyhow, Now that we have been given a S2 it would be more painful if it ended now (and we can surely predict a cliffhanger is in store for the season 2 finale) !!!
ReplyDeleteThe problem of this show might be it's too sadistic for a public network. I suppose that it might become a hit on HBO or Netflix. That's why I hope it would be picked up by any other network if NBC cancelled it.
ReplyDeleteYou really should! It may be the goriest show to ever grace broadcast television but it is accompanied by creative visuals, a haunting soundtrack, but most importantly, the acting and the writing are top-notch. The Hannibal/Will relationship is so fascinating. I would really like to know what you think if you ever have the chance to watch it :)
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna watch the first episode tonight, as a matter of fact :) Gonna drop you my thoughts here when I finish if you'd like ;D
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I would love that.
ReplyDeleteI'm confident too about Hannibal's future ! Can't wait to see the "strange" conclusion for the second season.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. That's what I expected.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I like this show, and feel that creatively it should be renewed for a final season, I hate to burst Mr. Fuller's bubble, but it is precisely the schedulers and salespeople that ultimately steer the fates of shows. Money talks, as they say. You could create the finest art known to man, but if you fail to sell it you you soon find something else to feed you.
ReplyDeleteI hope we get it! I need this and a 13 episode final season of Revolution. As mad and upset I am over Almost Human and Believe, I wasn't invested in those shows in the same way, and Hannibal, because I was already such a fan, is such a master piece and a fantastic representation of all source material, needs to be able to see the whole thing through. (I'm super bias about it).
ReplyDeleteI agree. I hope Hannibal makes it out alive even if that means Believe fizzles out. The story is so much richer in Hannibal. If NBC must pick, then ditch Believe and Crisis, and keep our favorite cannibal on the menu.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, let me just say that you are correct in that the visuals are superb, the soundtrack is haunting and that the writing is excellent. This show is (unfortunately) not my taste in television, mainly because the gore and the brutality level is a tad too much for me. It got so very brutal sometimes! :P And it had an underlying "horror" element that made me prepare for something really bad to happen every single scene, and that wasn't as enjoyable as I was hoping it would be :( I don't think I'll be watching any further, sorry about that, just didn't really fit my taste.
ReplyDeleteI also want to say kudos to NBC for picking this up, as this is definitely not something I expected to end up on a broadcast network. I do hope they renew it for you guys, though! :)
I think Believe was DOA, even though I like it, it has a terrible time slot and I think it could have been presented better. I find it at times it's too straight forward, but as a big Hannibal fan prior to this series, I'm beyond anxious to see the whole thing!
ReplyDeleteAwww damm, I was hoping you would like it but I completely understand why it's not the type of show for you. The gory aspect and the slow burn of the show usually turns a lot of people off so it's kinda hard to convince someone to give this show a try but I commend you for taking the time :)
ReplyDeleteLee Pace to the rescue! :)
ReplyDeleteI feel the opposite. To me, Season 1 was amazing while this season has just been extremely good. But regardless, I'm definitely interested in seeing what might happen should Fuller get his first longer-than-two-seasons show.
ReplyDeleteThis show is amazing I don't see why it should not be renewed. I mean there is nothing on TV right now that is even close to Hannibal, anyway I thought AXN & Gaumont were making it because we always have the part "AXN original" part before the episode starts. Fingers crossed for season 3.
ReplyDeleteYou would be insane not to renew it for a 3rd season.
