How much of the first season story do you have mapped out?
All of it.
How serialized will Gotham be vs. how procedural?
Serialized.
You mentioned The Killing Joke. So you’ll bring in The Joker?
He’s the crown jewel of the Batman villains. He will be brought in with great care and a lot of thought.

I prefer Batman in Arrow
ReplyDeletesorry dude, not going to happen.
ReplyDeleteThe issue is DC holding onto Batman as a movie only character. No TV shows (outside of cartoons that is) for him.
I have no idea why but it seems DC is kind of putting him on a pedestreal that way
Serialized! Good. I don't really need another procedural show on my list :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, he seems very confident ;) I'm very excited to see what the show's gonna be like!
make sense to do serialized.....focusing on each batman villain and then it all come together in the finale
ReplyDeleteSo excited! I love how dark the tone of the show will be. A lot of good actors in this show. I am happy they will focus on the villians too. I love most superhero origin stories.
ReplyDeleteHe sounds like he knows exactly what he is doing, and knows where he's taking the show. That makes me wanna watch it even more.
ReplyDeleteGuy seems quite arrogant.
ReplyDeleteOh god please no I know a lot of people love that show but that version of Green Arrow is basically Batman in green with a bow and arrow. Personally at least in my opinion I wouldn't want Batman in Arrow. Just my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteYes it sounds really really good I am very excited for it.
ReplyDeleteYes I think it will be great, I'm so excited. I to love the dark tone and Gotham looks fantastic in the promos at least to me.
ReplyDeleteYay! A serialized series,i just hope i like Gotham...?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I facepalmed at his saying the show's visual style will surpass the DK trilogy, and the kid they got is the best actor to have ever played Batman. WTF? He needs to learn some humility. Those huge statements are really going to backfire if the show isn't good (and I'm not writing it off prematurely, just sayin'...).
ReplyDeleteI'm torn about this, on the one hand, I can't help feeling (as many have said) that this is just another low-budget detective show, and they're trying to cash in on the Batman name by throwing in young Bruce and a few Batman villains. On the other hand, if they are committed to telling a noir-ish origin story for the crime-infested city of Gotham and the character of Gordon, it could be really cool. I like that he says it's going to be mostly serialized, there are about 2000 police procedurals on TV and I don't watch a single one. I don't want a case-of-the-week show with a vague ongoing plot that rears its head once every 5 episodes and then in the season finale, a tightly plotted one that keeps you coming back week after week. Hopefully, they order 13 episodes only, so the show is lean, mean and without fillers.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, we need more serialized shows. The sad thing is that networks know they have a better chance of making money with procedurals because viewers can jump into them every week without having to see previous episodes, thus higher ratings as opposed to shows that you have to "commit" to and follow the plot. They make more money in syndication for the same reason, too. So it's a cycle that feeds itself. Fortunately, storytelling on TV has become more and more ambitious over the past decade or so and we are seeing more serialized shows breaking out of the mold. Let's hope Gotham continues this trend :)
ReplyDeleteNicely said. Definitely agree :)
ReplyDeleteAbout fifteen or so years ago I would have fully agreed with you (not saying your wrong or you have to agree with me this is just my thoughts) after the two horrid Batman movies that shall be not named. I have a lot more faith in Hollywood to put out decent Batman products after the Arkham games and Nolan films, I'm not saying this show will be good even before I see it but just that I expect better things out of them on the Batman side of things then I would have years ago.
ReplyDeleteI agree about keeping the show dark and gritty. I love the character of Gordon, and I'm glad his character is keep good screen time.
I also agree about keeping the seasons short, shows that have shorter seasons at least to me seem to have a much tighter story etc.
And yes I am also sick to death of the hundreds of procedural who done it type of shows we've been forced feed.
I'm not one of those wanting a Batman show, to me he's always belonged on the big screen, now don't get me wrong I love the 60s campy Adam West Batman but for today's Batman I think he belongs on the big screen.
Kinda cocky aren't we Mr Heller? Having said that I think he's quite the gifted TV writer and a rather excellent showrunner, so I have good faith about how this might turn out.
