Prince Doran Martell – Doran is described as the major new player this year, appearing in multiple episodes. The fiftysomething prince uses a wheelchair, is reclusive and rules wisely. It appears the show is looking to continue the trend it started with Pedro Pascal, and cast Latino actors for the Martell clan.
Prince Trystane Martell – Trystane, the handsome fiance of Princess Myrcella, is being aged up to 18.
Areo Hotah - Doran’s personal bodyguard will appear throughout the season, assisting the prince with his duties. The show is particularly looking for a black actor to fill the role.
The Sand Snakes, Oberyn Martell’s bastard daughters (with ages ranging 18-25):
Obara Sand – The eldest and most athletic Sand Snake will be having a major fight scene with a series regular character- not one who crosses her path in the books. This is an interesting change.
Nymeria Sand – Nymeria is described as “mixed race,” with her father being the fairer Oberyn and her mother being darker skinned. The second oldest of these Sand Snakes, she’s beautiful, emotional and very strong.
Tyene Sand - The youngest of the Sand Snakes that we meet uses her wits and seductive powers, and is less of a physical fighter than the other Sand Snakes. She is just as deadly as her sisters, however, but her weapon is poison.

The Sand Snakes. YES!
ReplyDeleteNo Arianne Martell? :(
A New Family That Will Be Interesting.
ReplyDeleteOh hell yes, they maybe have cut out a lot of the Greyjoys but the Martells are coming!
ReplyDeleteVictarion's probably cut. I'd be surprised if Euron's cut too though.
ReplyDeleteYes! After realizing how much I love Oberyn, I can't wait to see more of the House Martell next season.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting
ReplyDeleteI have been wondering that myself.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see who they cast for Areo. Unknown or well known actor? If they want to cast a known actor I think Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Eko from Lost, would be good.
ReplyDeleteI am fairly certain this is a partial list.
ReplyDeleteEarlier this week it leaked that they wee scouting locations in Spain, and I this list leaked now, probably no coincidence. It's not an official HBO release either, so expect more regions to get new roles and many more roles to be cast.
HE would be great, but I think the role will be fairly small. Would AAA take on a almost non-speaking role like Areo? I'm not sure, but fun to dream! XD
ReplyDeleteI love the Martells and am excited to see AT LEAST 3 of the 4 older Sand Snakes being cast!
ReplyDelete(I won't be surprised if they cast Elia down the road as well)
I think the most interesting news is Maggy the Frog being cast!
Flashbacks or do they bring Maggy to the present time?
Aslo really intriguing is Yezzan!
Does that mean Tyrion will progress that far into his arc or will they introduce Yezza earlier than the books?
They should be back.
ReplyDeleteI assume... I hope! XD
3 sand snakes are enough, I reckon. A major new player granted, but perhaps a bit overrated. We'll see what happens though. A lot will depend on who they're gonna cast. That's ought to earn them (or loose) some points. oh I just noticed. No Arrianne but Trystane. That's weird.
ReplyDeleteI know.. I thought it was odd they included Trystane but left out Quentyn..
ReplyDeleteMy guess is Arianne will be cast later alogn with a few more to round out the Dornish contingent... Maybe Trystane will be taking Quentyn's role from the books as well.
And the Greatjon too. I don't even remember if he was present at the wedding, or the Blackfish took his place.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good guess. It's just weird they casted Trystane first considering he has a smaller role. Oh yes I complete forgot about Quentyn. I see them going that way to be honest, I mean combining/mixing up their stories.
ReplyDeleteAlso Wendal Manderly was there...
ReplyDeleteSo I'm still hoping Wyman Manderly gets cast this year. If not, then next year!
I was wondering about Maggy, GOT doesn't do flashbacks usually. Maybe its a hallucination/dream..
ReplyDeleteThey have downplayed the family a lot in the show but yeah hopefully one of the turns up.
ReplyDeleteDon't even get me started on lord too fat to sit a horse. I have such high hopes for him. It's still soon to make an appearance but I am hoping he plays a huge role, in the show and in the future in general. Wendal was the one who died, right? I am kinda confused as to who has appeared in the series xD.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I get those small almost unnamed roles confused sometimes.. I thought maybe SmallJon died and Wendal was captured?
ReplyDeleteHonestly I have yet to re-watch the RW scene after the day it aired where I watched it twice. One of the few TV scenes that really affects me I guess...
It is really gruesome I know, and confusing. Too many recasts, people suppose to play different characters. Sometimes I don't even know where the books end and the show begins. Even Karstark was played by a different actor. I just found out about that today. And here I thought the second guy talking about the Greatjon crowned Robb was one of the Glovers. Here I go derailing the topic again lool.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be hard to find an interesting and cool Martell as Oberyn was though. A true Viper.
ReplyDeleteNot having read the books, I must say Oberyn has been a delight! Love to learn more about the Martells and Dorne!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is major stuff. I’m especially excited to see who Nymeria fights. The High Sparrow stuff sounds cool too. http://bit.ly/1m1UDt7
ReplyDeletewhy are they called "The Sand Snakes" ? anyways they all look liek an interesting family!
ReplyDeleteOberyn Martell is known as the "Red Viper" and the surname for bastards in Dorne is"Sand". So basically the "Sand bastard daughters of the Red Viper" shortens to "Sand Snakes."
ReplyDeleteConsider my surprise that they're casting for all three Snakes. That is AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteWell they left out Sarella....
ReplyDeleteBut, ya.. I am pleasantly surprised we got three!
Guess we'll go to Dorne next year
ReplyDeleteReplying to myself. That's nice. I just got my facts straight. The blackfish replaced Jon Umber at the wedding, he was the one drinking the Freys under the table (since the Greatjon's actor didn't come back for the second and third season) and he escaped because just before the massacre he had to use the bathroom, and apparently he likes to stare at nature while doing so. A bit out of character for him to run away from a fight but it's one way of justifying it I guess. So he must be headed back Riverrun but not Queen to protect.
ReplyDeleteUmber wasn't even at the Twins which is very interesting and promising about a certain conspiracy I have in mind. I hope they find some way to bring back the same actor. The guy was amazing and portrayed one of the biggest bad*** in Got as best as could anyone.
thank you!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm kinda afraid they're cutting Greyjoys or moving them into 6th season, both terrible decisions story-wise, yet they can't probably afford so many important actors to the story. Still seems like they've bit off more then they could chew with even doing this show. Season 1 seems such a small scale thingy now :D...and of course, the books are longer and longer, with POVs not dying fast enough.
ReplyDelete..the source link appears to be a bit wrong bc it redirects me to a page that describes Orell..and not to http://winteriscoming.net/2014/05/23/characters-confirmed-game-thrones-season-5-new-details/
ReplyDelete...anyway,i'm very excited to see Dorne and the Martell family!!
Hmm... Not sure why it does htat, but here is hte proper link!

These are the "After the jump" casting notes:
High Sparrow - The books’ pious head of a religious movement will be appearing in several episodes in season 5.
Septa Unella – The show is looking for a character actress to play the imposing and unrelenting septa who spends a lot of time with a major series character next year.
Maggy the Frog- A fortune teller in A Feast for Crows, she’ll be in one episode next year.
Lollys Stokeworth – Just last week in “Mockingbird,” Bronn announced his intention to marry Lollys, whom Tyrion considers “dimwitted.” It looks like the sellsword will still be around next year.
Yezzan - A sleazy Meereenese slave owner.
The Waif – The strange child from the books that Arya encounters will likely be played by an older actress, one in her later teens, and we understand the show is specifically looking for a woman of East Asian descent for the part.
Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteI already found the proper link but thank you all the same!
Are we sure Victarion is going to be cut? Seems like he figures to matter a lot in what is to come. Would it be a stretch to take his absence from the TV version of things to mean that he's not going to be doing much in the books to come?
ReplyDeleteSome think Euron has already appeared in the series (insert your favorite Daario = Euron theory here)...
ReplyDeleteMy first thought is that this is mostly the list of new roles in locations being shot early in the production season, Dorne (Spain) and that the Greyjoys could be cast when they get around to production on wherever they will film those scenes. I always thought Iceland would make a great location to film Iron Island stuff...
Assuming the Greyjoys do make the series and tthe Meereenese Knot issues play out at the end of next season, I would expect at least one Greyjoy to be cast for next year, right?
If they postpone the the needed parties arriving in Meereen (or maybe a different city in Essos could be used) until Season 6 then the Greyjoys really would not be needed until then I guess. Of course that ignores Melisandre's 3 kings prophecy and rearranges a number of other details...
At this point I'm not sure D&D will use the same endgame as GRRM will. To have the series end in 7 or 8 seasons they need to trim a lot and combine arcs and plots. I would expect that to change the endgame a fair amount, but I digress....
I'm not too concerned with who is in or who is out just yet since this is not an official HBO release. I'm sure the source is legit, but they could have easily omitted some roles or simply not known about EVERY new role being cast.
I would think there needs to be a few more meaty roles in next season. Even if they use Elaria in place of Arianne and the Waif or Jaqen in place of Kindly Man (I hate both ideas), I woudl expect new roles cast in Brienne's arc and in Jaime's Rivelands arc. Also in Dany's arc.. I don;t think adding one more player will be enough to fill out her arc personally.....
Who knows.... Wait and see I guess.
Sand Snakes being cast!
