Crisis - Homecoming - Review: Back into action in one of the best episodes yet

If you've read my review of the previous two episodes, you will know that I wasn't a big fan of these episodes. Fortunately, episode 7 returned to quality television in what is one of the series' best episodes yet, if not its best.

The episode directly follows up on last week's cliffhanger. Gibson calls Dunn and Finley, giving them 30 seconds to tell him something he doesn't know yet. They give him the location of a CIA station, and ask him to use them on missions instead of the parents. After hacking into the station, Gibson discovers a CIA black site in Anacostia and subsequently sends Dunn and Finley on a mission. There, they discover Jonas Clarenbach a.k.a. the supposed nurse of the two soldiers and the man Meg sleeped with. Jonas is being tortured for the formula that is used for the super soldiers. After delivering Jonas to the place Gibson told them to bring him to, Dunn and Finley get another phone call from the mastermind. He lets them choose which kid to release (Amber or Kyle), but they want him to release all the children (note to Gibson: if you do this, you will loose your leverage). After Gibson hangs up, Dunn's phone rings just seconds later. However, this time it's one of the CIA operatives who was watching and torturing Jonas and who was lured out of the black site by Dunn and Finley. He tells him to give Jonas back to the CIA, or else he is gonna threaten Meg. This means Dunn has to choose between saving her sister or saving her daugher.

Back at the mansion, it's homecoming! No not really, although Gibson manages to get one of the soldiers into the mansion. However, it turns out that the soldiers are operational: they are to release the hostages. While the other soldier didn't make it to the mansion, this soldier goes all wild and breaks out. After killing a few captors and causing chaos all over the house, some remaining captors manage to get the upper hand and they take him down. While Gibson wanted the soldier alive, he has a much bigger problem: the soldier set Hurst free. Hurst takes Gibson and they go inside and ask for Kyle. Sadly, Hurst does not have time to explain that he is not the mastermind behind this crisis. When the soldier killed one of the captors in a room where Kyle and Beth Anne were at that moment, Kyle took the gun from the deceased captor. And when he saw Hurst taking Gibson hostage, Kyle recalled the time Hurst taught him to shoot and took the shot, killing Hurst. Following the standoff, Kyle and Beth Anne, accompanied by Ian, face the captors and decide to take a run for it, eventually locking themselves up in a room where they can't get out but the captors can't get in either.

This episode was way better than the previous two and it might even be the best of the series yet. It was a real game-changer both for the FBI and at the mansion. Dunn and Finley now co-operate with the kidnapper against the CIA by letting themselves be used on parent missions. Of course the CIA does not entirely agree to this and goes to extreme measures to stop all this. Meanwhile, Gibson has a huge problem at the mansion as his plan is slowly falling apart. Not only did the soldier end up dead, but nearly all his equipment was destroyed. Then there is the fact that their fall guy Hurst is also dead, which would certainly raise questions from the children as they saw him as the mastermind. One of the captors even says they should consider giving up. Oh, and there are three children locked up in a room, one of them being Gibson's own daughter. How will Gibson move along with his plan?

It was a very action-packed episode that took away my criticisms from the previous episodes. There were interesting twists and surprises, especially at the mansion. When I watched the first mansion scene, I thought it was gonna be more boring stuff, but I am glad to say that I was wrong. Now I can't wait for the next new episode! Keep it coming!

What did you think of this episode? How do you think Gibson will continue with his plan? Will Dunn choose to save her sister or her daughter? How will Kyle, Beth Anne and Ian plan to escape?
