CBS pulls cancelled comedies from schedule

Thanks to Ben L for the heads up.

We may have seen the last of midseason CBS comedy series Friends With Better Lives and Bad Teacher. CBS has quietly pulled the shows off the schedule as it is making a push for a freshman comedy series that got renewed for next season, Mom. Repeats of Mom will move into Friends With Better Lives‘ Monday 8:30 PM slot, where it will air next fall. For extra sampling, reruns of Mom also will air behind the biggest comedy series on television, CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, in the Thursday 8:30 PM slot for the next few weeks.

Starting this week, fellow renewed freshman comedy The Millers, which will return to the Thursday 8:30 PM slot in the fall, will temporarily move to the 9:30 PM berth currently occupied by Bad Teacher, following Two And A Half Men. CBS has an available half-hour slot on Monday for the summer, with 2.5 Men reruns also airing at 9:30 PM there, following Mike & Molly. But the network seems to be going for a clean break from the just-finished season, opting not to continue with any of its cancelled comedies and focusing on the shows that are coming back. There are no plans at the moment for the remaining episodes of FWBL, which has aired 9 of its 13 produced episodes, or Bad Teacher, which has aired 5.

  1. That's stupid! I was really enjoying Friends With Better Lives. If there were only 4 episodes left they should've just aired them.

  2. Yeah, they aired the series finale of FWBL yesterday. Wasn't sure about Bad Teacher.

  3. Pitty for those who liked the comedies. They should at least release them online.

Unconfirmed rumor is that 'Friends with Better Lives' may still air elsewhere. Canada apparently still has the show scheduled (unless they air repeats instead or haven't updated their schedule).

  5. Well someone has clearly been taking advice from ABC.

  6. That usually happened, Partners continued to air all 13 episodes on an international network when CBS pulled it. Same with Welcome to the Family on NBC.

  7. "It's not just cold, it's NBC"

that should totally become NBCs new tagline

  8. Well CBS is a lot harsher on shows that aren't instantly #1 or #2 in their timeslot and they are the story here so I think it should be CBS's tagline, since I doubt they'll go with my other suggestions, such as "Unique and good shows...Won't Be Found Here!" or "Your #1 destination for laugh tracks!"

  9. I really enjoyed some of these shows.

  11. I didn't watch any of these shows but its lame they wouldn't at least air the final few episodes just to let the viewers finish up the season I mean there is only a few left for some of the shows. People went through the work of making the show might as well finish off the last few new episodes to burn the show off before its gone for good. Do we really need repeats of shows that already aired and will be airing all during the summer months>

  12. Why why why do they do this, FWBL was awesome, didn't understand why they cancelled that in the first place. Bad Teacher was just bad, so no surprise there. I hope Canada keeps airing them so we can atleast see all the remaining episodes.

  13. NBC is actually one of the less harsh ones. It gave Chuck and Community 5 seasons (though I'm still mad them for cancelling them), has given Hannibal (which unfortunately has abysmal ratings) 3 seasons so far, gave Seinfeld three seasons until it really took off in season 4, same with Cheers in season 1 (it had terrible ratings), Parks and Rec and many more shows.

  14. They should just put them up on Hulu at least.

  15. FWBL had low ratings, so they cancelled it.

Very bad & obscure move from CBS ... both BT and FWBL latest episodes had decent ratings (at least to fill a night with all repeats). Really sorry not to see more from hot gym teacher Ryan Hansen ... ;-)

  17. Sooooooooooo disappointing in CBS canceling FWBL it was something I've been waiting for and I have loved every episode. This show is hilarious they should post the remaining episodes online or on itunes just like Sean Saves The World. When NBC fails they at least continue to show the remaining episodes elsewhere.

  18. I actually caught FWBL the other night and really enjoyed it. I also watched a few episodes of Bad Teacher online because of Ryan Hansen. First time in years that I was actually watching CBS! I tried Mom earlier in the season and I just couldn't do more than two episodes. Goodbye CBS.

  19. I hope so! Would rather watch them than Mom. I haven't tried Millers but it doesn't interest me.

  20. Ha! Ryan was the reason I checked it out.

  21. Friends With Better Lives wasn't great, but it was good. You renew Mom and cancel FWBL? Like people would say here in my country, "não é querer dizer", but Mom sucks (no offense to those who likes it)!
