This review took me a while to write because I really didn’t know how I felt about this episode. “For Better or Worse” had its up and downs, and maybe I had set my expectations too high for a season finale. The episode we are usually delivered before any hiatus is supposed to blow our pants off. They decided to go for cliché, extremely cliché, accompanied by some unoriginal “twists” and it actually makes me sad for the show, because I’ve loved it for quite some while now, but have they really run out of original storylines? (Even the title lacks Castle originality…)
I still managed to enjoy the episode and was probably one of the few that liked the ending and is looking forward to see what it may provoke in the beginning of season 7. Once I got over the fact that they were using overused plotlines to direct the story, I enjoyed the episode. Even though it was polluted with unoriginal plots, if you forget about the last 30 seconds, the episode was funny, cute and filled with the Caskett-y moments we’ve (I’ve) come to enjoy.
The begining of the episode brings us to the precinct where Beckett hands over her case load to the guys. Ryan’s excitement leads to Beckett’s reveal that she’s terrified of saying her vows in front of 300+ people which yields a charming discussion between the three of them. I always enjoy when they get to have non procedural conversations with each other. After a few pretty bad, but so well-intentioned suggestions to ease her stress, Gates steps in. As she does, Ryan sent Esposito a look that made me laugh so hard, a look kind of along the lines of ‘Since when is she including herself in our personal life conversations? And more importantly since when does she talk about her personal life?’ Gates’ character has become so lovable. I wouldn’t go as far as her being a mother figure now, but maybe at least a tough older sister, that helps, advises and teases. She’s now a part of their little unorthodox family.
When Castle arrives, the mood gets even lighter and as soon as the two lovebirds interact, you just get the two idiots in love vibe. It’s instantaneous with them and seeing them together, you just can’t help yourself to smile. Hell, I’m smiling just thinking about it, right now. It’s three days before they are to tie the knot and instead of coming back home with a marriage license like intended, Kate comes back with a husband, and a very confused fiancé. (Yup, that’s the route they decided to take.) They met freshman year of college and were young and stupid. After a trip to Vegas and what they (or at least, she) thought was a fake wedding, they ended up married, for 15 years. (Yup, they went all those places and I bet they thought it would be a good idea!)
Rogan O’Leary (Eddie McClintock, Warehouse 13, Wot Wot!) is a scumbag and he’s also Kate’s husband. Castle seems to find it funny, Beckett on the other hand, not so much. She is married, for realsies, and I guess she really is mad about not being the ‘one and done’ kind of girl she though she was.
“I must say, given his record, I’m really surprised you stayed with him all those years.” -Castle
Since it’s obvious that Rick and Kate do not want to postpone the wedding (though her argument of not wanting to have to explain to the people that are flying in lacks the caskett-y romance) Kate drives up to Willow Creek in the hopes (more conviction than hope with her) of getting him to sign the dissolution of marriage papers. I just want to point out that Ryan still texts LOL, which I found funnier than I probably should have.
During that time, Castle is to hold down the wedding preparation fort back in New York. Even though everything already went wrong planning this wedding, everything still manages to go wrong for a second time during this episode. Their perfect roof-top venue has no more floor. Ryan’s 3 sizes too small suit makes him look like monkey butler and Kate’s dress got totaled.
Rogan is a piece of work and Kitkat (I love that nickname) can’t get Rogan to sign the papers. Not before she does something for him. After having successfully managing to steal his ex-girlfriend’s garage door opener, Beckett witnesses his kidnapping. I was shaking my head and Beckett’s “Really?” was spot on because, it’s probably what every one of you was thinking at the time. It was farfetched, but come on, it’s Castle, what did I expect? It gave a somewhat absurd tone to the rest of the chase for O’Leary, but at least they embraced it which made me enjoy it even more.
Once Martha and Alexis took it upon themselves to move the wedding to the Hampton’s House, which ends up being jaw-breaking gorgeous, (Anyone else though for a split second Lanie and Espo where going to get married instead of Castle and Beckett?) Castle leaves the fort with a new mission, that of bringing Beckett back to NYC a free woman.(It probably should have been in his mission description to bring himself too! Too soon?)
Castle and Beckett are working together once more. There was no murder during this episode, but the investigation of Rogan’s abduction was nothing if not entertaining. The ex-girlfriend leads them to a laptop. They get ambushed by a gang of angry bikers looking for their money that lead them to a strip club. The stripper leads them to a blackmailed pastor. The father then leads them back to stripper who leads them to a barn.
I was laughing my head off during the scene where Rogan bursts out laughing at Castle’s girl-like scream. It caught me completely off guard and Kate's reaction made it even better. To top it off, it was followed by a friendly banter about Castle's man-parts between Kate her future husband and her future ex-husband. This was absolutely the best non cliffhanger scene of the episode.
After the extremely unpopular reaction to Kate’s haute couture wedding dress, it was clear something was going to happen to it. They decided to have a pipe burst in her apartment, and I think the scene turned out a lot funnier and a lot less dramatic than intended. I don’t know if they did that purposefully absurd (I hope) but I laughed at Lanie’s reaction. Every freaking thing is going incredibly wrong, but it’s the loss of the dress that sends Kate over the edge, leading to an unBeckett-like melt down.
“Maybe it is a sign, a sign that ours is a great love story. What’s a great love story without obstacles to overcome? Every fairy tale has them, terrible trials that only the worthy can transcend. But, you can’t give up, that’s the deal. We want the happy ending, we can’t give up.” -Castle
After being held captive by an FBI fugitive mobster, they skillfully manage to get rid of both their angry bikers and dangerous mobster. Everything is falling back into place (or so it seems). Rogan gives Kate the divorce she desperately deserves. The Hamptons scenery is absolutely breathtaking, Johanna’s dress is there to the rescue (cliché, but fitting) and Kate looks absolutely stunning.
With Castle on route, it really does look like everything was going to end well for the writer and his muse. Haha! Funny! Of course it’s not. Shows run on drama. Even though maybe it’s not always (or often) 100% positive, the cliffhanger got people talking. I’m a sucker for happy endings also, but this not the end, no need for happy just yet! I’m not one to think that marriage actually changes anything in a relationship, so I wasn’t really disappointed we didn’t get to see them actually get married. I for one (I think I’m in the minority here) liked the cliffhanger and what it may bring to season 7. Still think I’m in the minority, I want them apart for the beginning of the seventh season. I’m kind of looking forward to Beckett going bat-shit crazy looking for Castle and Castle finally going badass without Beckettt as training wheel at his side.
Castle is most definitely not dead. They just can’t just kill Castle in Castle, right? That really would be a twist. The cliffhanger isn’t as much if he’s slowly turning into ashes in his car, but mostly who’s behind the attack.
So who? Bracken? Someone looking for Jackson Hunt? 3XK?(Although, not his style) Or someone I haven’t thought of?
So now speculate! Agree or disagree with my opinion, I don’t mind. Just stay respectful. ;)
Until the fall, people!
worst episode of castle. ever. crappy writing, over used storylines.
ReplyDeletelet the ranting begin...
ReplyDelete"I don’t know if they did that purposefully absurd (I hope) but I laughed at Lanie’s reaction."
ReplyDeleteConsidering the dress was lying on an autopsy table, I think it's safe to say they were aiming for absurd!
I feel like the trick with this episode, (through the lighter parts), is to embrace those cliches. After all, real life wedding chaos tends to actually /be/ one cliche after another, so why not run with that? I genuinely enjoyed the episode: lots of sweet moments, loads of silliness, the wonderful Eddie McClintock being adorably impossible as he does so well, and yes, I too actually liked that ending. It sets up some great potential storytelling for season 7, with loads of room for speculation, and what more can we ask of a cliffhanger?
[I wouldn't say that's a minority opinion, though: from the polls, about 60% have rated the episode good, great, or awesome. Another 10-ish for OK, and about a third have voted poor or awful. It's unclear how many of that third are rage votes, retaliating after being robbed of wedding vows!]
Anyway, great review. Nicely done!
@AnnSophieHamel You are not the only one that likes this ending. I'll explain later why this ending is good and what exactly the next season is going to bring.
ReplyDeleteNice review. And no, you are not the only one. I liked this episode, granted the end was not my favorite and left me slightly shocked, but I'm interested to see how it turns out. People should not focus on procedural errors like "how could she pass the FBI check not knowing she is married"... Castle is a show, it's all fiction, and I enjoy it as it comes. I liked this episode as it was full of funny-moments , pep-talks and heart-breaking moments and it had me wrapped for 1h. Thanks for the great show and see you back in September.
ReplyDeleteI seriously feel like I saw a completely different episode from some of
ReplyDeleteyou guys. To me the scene on the park bench, by itself, would have made the episode memorable and worthwhile, but there were so many more great little moments. It wasn't on last week's level of greatness, but it was good, and sweet, and funny. (Right up until it wasn't!)
Did you find it stupid because of Rogan? He's just a technicality. Castle is still her one and done, and Beckett doesn't become any less great for having made one dumb mistake as a kid. Is it because the wedding is postponed again? That always seemed likely, and just means we'll get something better and more meaningful next year. Or is it the cliffhanger? Maybe not the most original, but I love the implications for the kinds of stories it sets up.
Still, always good to see the show stirring up strong feelings in folks. Hopefully more people will be back on board for the 7x01 resolution.
Good episode good cliffhanger and a great recap 22 september here we come!!
ReplyDeletewell, If they had Beckett's husband in every other episode I would be OK with it, but spending 3/4 of the SEASON FINALE on Rogan and his stupid life and what we got in the end was a stupid, cliche cliffhanger that had nothing to do with anything whatsoever. I have no problem with the postponed wedding, but they could have done it in a million different (and better) ways.
ReplyDeleteI'm probably one of the few that totally agree with you assessment of this episode. I too loved the cliff hanger and am looking forward to seeing what happened to Castle in season 7. I love seeing Castle in a more serious role, just like when Alexis was kidnapped. He has such a great range of emotion and I love seeing them all!
ReplyDeleteI won't say that i hate the episode, it has it's moments. Especially the scene with Kate and Rick on the bench when she is saying her wedding day is falling apart.
ReplyDeleteI have 3 majors problem with this episode,
1. The promotion of the episode push really this as the wedding episode, they wanted to bring as much viewer as possible but by not delivering they probably frustrated a lot of people.
2. The second half of the season focus almost entirely on wedding preparation. That is one of my biggest issue, why spend so much time on it (too much if you ask me) just to discard everything in the end. If they would hape spent some time on other aspect of their relationship that would still be viable even if the wedding was postponed then it would not be that bad. I know that i don't want another half season of wedding prep so what, the next one will just be 1 episode in the middle of season 7 without the big lead up to it. The wedding story line has already been used a lot this season, personally i would have like it to be done so that we can now focus on something else. I can't keep thinking back to the series finale of Chuck, by making sara forget everything they kind of erase all her personal growth, So i a lot of my time invested in the series was for nothing, i guess i hate the feeling of being rob after investing a lot of my time on something.
3. A cliffhanger if done correctly is great, but if it is done lazily without context then no it's not. Kate getting shot at the end of season 3 was a great cliffhanger, It was in the context of the episode and the overall storyline of season 3, I think the fan would have prefer a end like season 4, a happy ending and finish with a ominous threat. I keep comparing this with the end of The Glades, difference is that in The Glades there was a buildup toward that cliffhanger, we already had 3 or 4 suspects that could easily have done it. In castle there was no buildup, not even in this episode, that is why i do not like the end.
That ending was the definition of jumping the shark.
ReplyDeleteFirst things first. Fans are justified in complaining about the inadequacies of the finale, the cliches, and overall having the bloody kitchen sink flung at their heads in the last 2 mins. But then we all felt similar emotions/reactions after '47 seconds' & 'The Limey' in Season 4, where Kate & Rick were seemingly headed to a very good place when the rug was pulled under out feet and it was then an angst filled ride to the finale where "Always" justified the need for all this drama in getting Caskett together..mainly because it made them stronger & enabled them to get through the hurdles encountered towards the end of Season 5.
ReplyDeleteSo while the instruments used to create drama in the finale weren't as original as expected in Castle, it does set up for an anxious/exciting Season 7 that is full of endless possibilities & questions: Who drove Rick's car off the road/kidnapped Rick? Is it 3XK or Bracken? Is it Jackson Hunt faking a car crash to take Rick to a safe place because somebody bad was coming after him? Or is it a completely new nemesis? (Andrew Marlowe's talk about new mythology in his post-finale interview got me thinking) Is Rick suffering from amnesia when he finally surfaces next season? Will he not remember Kate or his family?
I loved the ending, but a few seconds later the promo for next season ruined it. WTH, don't they know what a cliffhanger is? I enjoyed the eps, lots of laughs.
ReplyDeleteLets speculate shall we, Castle's father is back! Its some sort of CIA Covert Ops in which they have abducted Castle to make his father come out of hiding or something..
ReplyDeletei feel like they used the finale to set up a new story arc or revive an old one!!
ReplyDeleteBut using finale as a set up is just stupid!!
like you i'm also unsure on how to react to the finally. i am disappointed that the wedding that all castle fans are waiting for did not happen, however i am looking forward to what season 7 has in store for us. i just hope that andrew marlowe and the rest of the writing team will not drag the long awaited caskett wedding through the whole season 7. the wedding should happen sooner rather than later, the fans deserve to see the wedding that they've all been waiting for for the past 6 seasons. right now all i have is blind faith on andrew marlowe holding on to what he used to say that just because two people are together or married doesn't mean that there's no more story to tell.
ReplyDelete@Anne Sophie, I also liked the ending! For me, the only major complaint was Rogan (not exactly him, but becaus I´m not able to buy that no one discovered about him before). I do´n´t mind not having a wedding, because I believe there´ll be a great episode about it later:) And I liked the cliffhanger, because there are a lot of outcomes taht have me speculating, wich I think was the idea!
ReplyDeleteAnd since looks like a new mithology will appear, probably the ones behind this have no ties with Bracken, Hunt or 3xK - maybe it´s a new story:)
Let's see, weeding coming to a head (Bones), bride finds out she's already married (Bones), tries to get spouse to sign divorce papers (Bones), he won't sign (Bones) - does any of this sound familiar?????
ReplyDeleteNo, I stopped watching bones years ago.
ReplyDeleteI loved this episode. To me, it was classic Castle fun. I honestly thought it was too soon to have the wedding. I knew they were up to something. Even Castle himself mentioned September as the wedding month. I think the anticipation of these events is half the fun. And we have much to anticipate this fall! Relax and enjoy the journey - stop trying to rush the storyline or we will run out of story to tell. Trust in Marlowe - I'm sure what he has planned for next season is going to blow your socks off with emotion and happiness.
ReplyDeleteLiked the ending as i was hoping for a twist like kate waking up frm her coma after being shot so that they can redo them getting together in a more believable true to character way. S5 n s6 has been forgettable.unlike the first four seasons.
ReplyDeleteSo an angsty ending is ok imho. Got hooked on the show due to the angsty last few eps of s4 (excluding always). Said this b4,bring back alexi hawley!
Oh, interesting! That's a different take from most that I've heard, about Rogan.
ReplyDeleteTo me, "Veritas" WAS the big, dramatic, "finale-type" episode, so I was completely ok with this one being so silly, and meeting Rogan, I felt like I was getting just a tiny glimpse of what "KitKat" used to be like before her mother's death changed her forever. For me, that was absolutely worth the time we spent on his story. (On the other hand, I'm probably also biased, since I just like Eddie McClintock!)
The cliffhanger is abrupt, for sure, but on the other hand it follows right after a VERY long list of mishaps, each and every one making a wedding harder. More to the point, if came after Rick's speech about "great love stories," and "terrible trials that only the worthy can transcend." Foreshadowing?
So "jumping the shark" is the moment after which a show is never really the same -- where the downward turn in quality begins. Considering this episode came just after one of the best in the show's history, and considering season 7 hasn't happened yet, I'd say the shark is safely un-jumped.
ReplyDeleteAlso, again, lots of people really loved this one - even the ending! Whether it's justified, we'll have to wait and see.
Good thing you did - no sense watching the same thing twice!
ReplyDeleteThis finale was a combination of writing lazyness and a basic refusal to carry through in a timely fashion with story lines built for 6 years. Fake angst, CONSTANT interruptions, created by impossible plots only make the show look foolish. Dragging out stories that the viewers feel is past due does nothing but insult those who spend their time watching and supporting the show.
ReplyDeleteThe show runner has basically said that he will not be giving the fans what they have been asking for and instead he will be doing what HE WANTS TO SHOW. That is totally his right, just as it is the viewers right to watch whatever shows they choose. In this case, this fans has decide they have waited long enough and will move on to other shows.
Nice review. I did like the episode and also the ending because for me it wasn't the fact that of course Castle is alive, but who of all their enemies is behind it and what happened to him. I have the feeling that most people always complain if the episode does not go as they want and think is right.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet it didnt happen in the same way.
ReplyDeleteYou have #the feeling most people...? I´m sure about it!:)
ReplyDeleteThank you! You are right, people always complain, it's a fact that they can never fully please everybody...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he doesn't always listen to the fans. If he had, Beckett and Castle would have gotten together right away and we'd have missed out on amazing 3 seasons.
ReplyDeleteWas the coma thing sarcasm, haha. Because woah, that's way too soap-y for me....
ReplyDeleteI'm more excited about the season 7, than I was season 6. Does anyone know if the season 5 final got as much reaction from the fans?
ReplyDeleteI don't know why but for me it's like no matter which show, after the final aired all I read is complaints like 'they totally blew it', 'they totally ruined the whole show' etc. And it feels like this year it's extreme in this. They complain if there is a cliffhanger and they complain if there is no cliffhanger....
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of new mythology, is that a sure thing?
ReplyDeleteBecause a Bracken comeback would make last episodes takedown a lot less satisfying, and I don't want that. I want closure, or almost, for him.
Not a fan of hunt and 3XK coming back would be really uncalled for...
So I really dope your right! Any ideas?
I guess I just don't understand why people absolutlely want to see the wedding happen right away... What does it change?
ReplyDeleteWhy?
ReplyDeletePlease no....
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss the promo????
ReplyDeleteI know. I wonder what the reaction would have been if the episode ended with the wedding actually happening. They would probably find other reasons to complain.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't think people are complaining about the cliffhanger, more that they didn't get there wedding. If Castle got kidnapped/fake killed after the wedding, would people still be complaining?
Completely agree, but please no amnesia.... This is so not the direction I want them to take next season. I want some badass Castle moves, I know he's got it in him!
ReplyDeleteIMO, I think the fans were really OK with the timing of the proposal and alleged wedding just didn't like how the proposal was handled and they would have been OK with the weddings in the S6 finale. But now who knows when they will (maybe) get married.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great question. And I honestly thought this season finale was much better than last year's.
ReplyDeleteYes, I wouldn't mind them having the small wedding with no preparation next season (if ever) because I too an tired of the wedding preparation discussions...
ReplyDeleteAs for the cliffhanger, you're right about the lack of build-up which means we can't really speculate on who's done it because except Bracken, the other story lines weren't talked about for quite some time. Its probably why people seem to assume its Bracken coming back.
Plus I really hope they don't pull a Sarah/Chuck amnesia storyline....
Yeah, Castle's been underused as Beckett loyal puppy dog. He needed a separate story where he can fully be his amazing self ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Is September 22nd confirmed?
ReplyDeleteThanks glad you enjoyed the review.
ReplyDeleteThere is always a reason to complain, but I agree with most Tv shows you have to learn. To let things slip.
Maybe they should have tried to explain why no one else knew, but they didn't. It's an inconsistency, and I usually complain about them, but actually hadn't even realized...
No but following last seasons premieres (Season 2 - 21 Sep, Season 3 - 20 Sep, Season 4 - 19 Sep, Season 5 - 24 Sep, Season 6 - 23 Sep) Its not hard to guess what the date will be of the premiere.
ReplyDeleteMore people than I though actually liked it.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to see what you're thinking ;)
Gotcha ;)
ReplyDeleteIt did get as much reactions but more positive the only thing fans complained about after last years final was the whole Beckett DC job thing and her having doubts about their relationship.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I thought they were going with absurd, but then it shifted so quickly with the Kate meltdown, I wasn't sure anymore!
ReplyDeleteLike you explication of the clichés. It gives me hope :)
I've only looked at the polls a couple of hours after the episode aired, and that why I said minority. The votes probably evened out when people had the time to chill out a little bit.
I'm glad you enjoyed the read :)
I was expecting worse ;)
ReplyDeleteAM isnt stupid hes not gonna hold it off for too long he might say he doesnt know what hes gonna do yet but all of this interviews proved that he anticipated all of the fans reactions and he knew what the fans reactions would be and since these interviews are prob a few weeks old (This finale was shot in april) he had some time too think about this, the writers come back in june for preproduction location scouting for the first few episodes etc etc so we will see soon enough.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't referring to the proposal, but from what I gather. I got in later in the game (season 4) fans had been wanting Castle and Beckett together since season 1. I'm glad he didn't even if at the moment it was frustrating. So if he has an end game for them, I don't mind waiting it out...
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too ;) I guess people finally cooled down a bit. It's insane how people react sometimes when an episode doesn't turn out the way they want it to... Loved your review by the way!
ReplyDeleteClose enough not to be original!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this episode. I think it was so much better than last year, I really really disliked the last couple of episodes of season 5.
ReplyDeleteThis episode had lots of really great moments between all the characters, and I adored the Caskett moments. The Martha and Beckett moment hasn't had much of a mention but I thought it was really sweet.
I'm not at all upset that we didn't get the Wedding in this season - this one was getting out of hand! Hopefully when we get over the immediate threat at the start of Season 7 then they can have their perfect wedding.
I can't wait for the speculation over the summer about how this will play out and who is behind it all. I think any new arc starting right after we think one has concluded would be a bit too soon. I think we may all have breathed too soon about the stuff with Braken being over.
Enjoy the summer everyone.
In his post finale interview, Marlowe said they were introducing a new mithology, but right I have no ideas on what (didn´t start my "speculation" thing yet, lol):)
ReplyDeleteAnd altough I´m not so sure, I believe he more or less said the Bracken storyline was closed (looked to me he was considering a look at the trial, but maybe that is just me desiring it)...
It got a lot of reaction too, from what I remember (and I was blessed with a great memory):) - there were a lot of talk about the proposal, but I think this year´s finale has been having just a little more "fuss"...
ReplyDeleteDisliked the whole Rogan Oleary thing, the obstacles and of course the lack of the wedding happening. It is not getting funny anymore to tease about all the Castle and Beckett near misses to happiness. Seeing Kate Beckett so excited about her wedding this year was a great sight to see. The Finale ripped out her heart, her hope and dreams as well as all of us fans.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you sooo much...they will wow us, I am sure and even though I was disappointed with no wedding , I was on the edge and LOVE what is in store...even my son who has lost interest with all of the wedding talk...said WOW...and I can't wait until Fall!
ReplyDeleteIt's not like Bones invented the plot either. You have Sweet Home Alabama, The Accidental Husband and Jane Eyre. I'm sure there are others. I guess both Bones and Castle were both drunken accidental weddings but that's not novel either --What Happens in Vegas. With probably 100s of weddings in movies and tv shows, it would be hard to come up with a completely novel plot line. I would never be able to watch another Rom/Com again if I was afraid to see the same plot line twice. The fun is seeing how the characters deal with it. Well, at least for me.
ReplyDeletebecause finales are supposed to represent the closure of the story arc..that's literally what they mean. New stories are supposed to be started in the beginning or mid season..but these are just my thoughts
ReplyDeleteOK so I’m going to talk about why exactly I liked this episode
ReplyDeleteand more precise the ending and what I think is going to happen next. But
before I do that, I want to say something about the previous episode which was
Veritas. I didn’t like that episode at all. To me it was anticlimactic and it
had some problems.
Instead of doing two episodes in order to deal with the
whole Bracken “revenge”, they shoved everything in a single episode. And it
wasn’t really an epic confrontation between Beckett and Bracken that I was
expecting. There are other things wrong with that episode but I’ll move on.
So moving on to this episode. When I was watching this
episode and I saw the constant hiccups that keep Beckett from getting a
divorce. I realized that the weeding is not going to take place this episode. Something
I want to mention about Beckett’s marriage. Now from a writing point of view it
makes sense, from a logical point of view it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
I understood why they did this, why they had Beckett already married. In order
to have that drama, that roadblock; that prevented Castle and Beckett from
getting married.
And that’s good in a way; however writers need to stop
creating unnecessary drama. And I’m not talking just about Castle; I’m talking
about all writers. Drama is good provided is done right.
Now like I said from a logical point of view it doesn’t make
sense. Because let’s say Beckett didn’t know or didn’t actually believe she was
married, ok. So that’s out of the picture.
Here is the reason it doesn’t make any sense. Beckett worked
and she’s still working as a detective. She even worked for the district
attorney or as one; I don’t really remember what job she had in the beginning
of this season, sorry I just don’t remember exactly. Now the people she worked
for do background checks to see exactly who they’re hiring. They don’t just
hire anyone. So people knew about it and no one even bothered to tell her or to
ask her why she says she’s not married when she is. Not only that but the guy
she’s married to, doesn’t even go to her to tell “Hey we’re married”.
Moving on to the end of the episode. First of all let’s get
the obvious out of the way. Castle is not dead.
Most likely he’s been kidnapped by Bracken’s men and that’s
good because it opens the gates from a proper ending between Beckett and
Bracken. And it also opens the gate for more development for Beckett, especially
her connection with Castle. Because so far we’ve never actually seen Beckett
lose Castle, we’ve never had that moment that tells us just how much Castle
means to her. It will give her more development in terms of emotions and we’ll
see a badass Beckett doing anything in her power to get Castle back. And I know
she had moments of “losing” him but never to this degree. The fact of the
matter is she never actually lost him and we’re going to see just how much
Castle means to her. Castle is a big part of her life and without him she isn’t
really Beckett. If you get what I mean.
If any of you watched “Chuck” you probably knew what I’m
talking about. In that show Chuck got kidnapped and Sakura went to the limit and
beyond to get her Chuck back.
And I’m pretty confident this is exactly what the writers of
Castle are doing now.
So in the end we’re going to have a proper end to the
Bracken stuff, we’re going to have a proper wedding, we’re going to see how
much Beckett loves Castle and we’re going to have a badass Beckett. No offense
to anyone who hates this episode but all the things that I’ve said about sound
really good.
Hope you understood I said and also understood my English. Because
English is not my native tongue, that’s the right way to say that right?
@AnnSophieHamel I'm interest to see if you agree with me.
I personally must point out that if it was Rick's car the police would not be calling Kate but Martha. The only person who is next of kin is Jim Beckett. The car we saw burning was different that the car Rick was driving. So it could be Jim Beckett car and he is now missing. Rick could be missing too. So it might be a double snatch?
ReplyDeleteThey aren't going to revisit the Bracken storyline anytime. AWM said himself that chapter is closed.
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily—they may not have wanted to torch the luxury car.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I did not know he said that and secondly I seriously doubt he meant it. If he actually said that, it could be because he doesn't want to reveal the truth. And he's waiting for the next season. In order to keep us guessing who is behind all of this.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read your suggestion, I really liked that it would actually be Jim, that they were waiting for him, not Castle and we were just assuming. But then I watched the last 5 minutes again and I still think it's meant to be Castle's car.
ReplyDeleteSince Jim is the one who brought her mom's dress to the Hamptons, is it safe to assume he had already arrived? Or did someone else bring it?
As for the next of kin, you don't have to be married to be someone's next of kin, right? My parents aren't married but I'm pretty sure if my dad got in a car accident my mother would be called...
I also think like @JC Raines, that they didn't want to burn a mercedes ;)
I happen to like the drama, but also as you said, when it's done right. This episode wasn't really all that "dramatic" if you exclude the final minutes. I think they were going a little more with funny and light than dramatic during the whole searching for Rogan.
ReplyDeleteFor the logistical point of view, a lot of people have been pointing out the background checks would have determined that she was married and I understand that. but what I don't understand is why people seem to assume they would tell her what they found out about her. I had to have a background check and I didn't get feedback except, it's good. Why would the fact that she was married be a factor for them, and they need to tell her about it?
I think everyone is jumping to the conclusion to Bracken, because his takedown is so fresh in our minds, but if we can all agree Castle is still alive, then I don't get what Bracken's motivation to keeping him alive would be. But really,I'm usually really, really bad at figuring out what's about to happen next! ;)
The "Chuck" episode you are referring to was awesome, but I am more looking forward to badass Castle, than badass Beckett. As you said, I want the emotional Beckett! We already saw that Beckett can be amazingly badass.
They, have been talking about the wedding a lot, and I can understand why he lost interest in it. I the wedding to happen, but I don't want them to talk about any more. I just want to see it!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, even though, they disappointed a lot of people with that cliffhanger, I'm sure they have something great planned!
A lot of people dislike the Rogan plot. I was wondering, and hopefully, you can help me with it. Do you think you would have disliked it if it had lead to the actual wedding? Is it because the chase feels useless since, it didn't really matter that she got the divorce because Castle and Beckett never in fact got married?
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, heartbroken Kate ripped my heart too, but the fact that I feel so strongly about it means they're doing something right, no?
I have to say, you're the first I hear saying they disliked season 5's "Still", or maybe, you're just refering to the last 2 episodes.
ReplyDeleteI, for one, didn't really like the Martha/Beckett moment, it just seemed to add to my cliché list...
Enjoy your summer also!
You're very welcome, happy you enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteI'm not that surprised at the negative comments, people are really, really invested in the relationship in this show! And the promos did lead us to believe their would be wedding!
Also looking forward to Season 7! I'm sure they'll bring it! ;)
Ann, I don't think I would have minded the Rogan story if it would have ended with the wedding. It just didn't justify the means to the end for me. Seeing Kate that emotionally crushed did me in.
ReplyDeletePerhaps but the car is an Audi, so it is not that much cheaper. No the license plates were switched. But not until the fire is out will the VIN be able to be seen to prove the switch in cars.
ReplyDeleteThey torched an Audi there is not much difference in price.
ReplyDeleteWhen I said they do background checks, I was referring to the position. Remember she worked as a detective and still is one and she worked for that job in the beginning of season 6 (again I really don't remember what job she had). In these types of positions they check and confront you to see what's the problem or if you're lying or not.
ReplyDeleteIt's not like any other job where they check for a couple of things and if they find something wrong, they don't even bother most of the time.
I'm pretty confident it is Bracken who's behind all of this. As for his motivation for keeping Castle alive, well I believe he's taunting Beckett. It's him basically telling her "Look at what I can do even though I'm behind bars" for him it's revenge. Because killing Beckett is easy, he just has to hire someone to put a bullet in her head. And that's easy and it's not really a proper vengeance for him. However hurting or killing the people that she cares about is. And we all know the person Beckett cares about the most is Castle. So it's logical for Bracken to go after him.
Yeah, it is logical ;)
ReplyDeletePS she was an agent for US Attorney General's Office, if I recall correctly.
GREAT REVIEW ANN. I am so looking forward to season 7 as I believe this tragedy at the end of the finale is going to bring out another side of Kate we havent seen. I believe the relationship between Castle and Beckett will become stronger next season and we will get a spectacular wedding.
ReplyDeleteAll the negativity surrounding the finale with cussing and hating and people making death threats to Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller was apalling and uncalled for. Even Nathan Fillion got nasty tweets by fans all because Castle and Beckett didnt get married.
When some fans dont get their way, they go from loving Castle to hating it and saying they are "Done" and moving on to another show. Thats what toddlers and teenagers do when things dont go their way. Shame on those (whom I hope now are ex-Castle fans) who behaved that way.
ABC, Castle, Andrew Marlowe, Terri Miller, Nathan Fillion and the rest of the cast and crew deserve better.
Cant wait for season 7.
Bye.
ReplyDeleteAgreed :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree with you. There is a difference being giving your opinion and disliking something and being rude and mean. I didn't know that there had been death threats, people sometimes.... People say there done done, but clearly, if they got this big a reaction out of them, they're probably tuning back in.
Human nature, I guess...
well i guess after all the hype that marlowe and the writing team caused with the whole planning the wedding for one whole season fans were expecting to see a wedding happen. it's like they gave the fans hope only for it to be snatched away. i think that's why there's a lot of negativity towards the finale. i guess it doesn't change much whether they got married during the finale or season 7, it's just the long wait that's upsetting the fans
ReplyDeleteHe said the wedding couldn't take place withut Kate wrapping up her past. Bracken's taken down, with such a flimsy episode.
ReplyDeleteHe also said this is the start of a whole "new mythology". So, new big bads and little bads.
I didn't get the humor in this finale, but I know I'm in the minority. Maybe most viewers are just tuning in the show and find it fresh, but the storylines each week has gotten more and more cliched. It's sad to see.
