Fantastic. Now everytime I'll be watching older seasons (specially S1) all i am gonna think about is that she is married. And omg its so unbelievable. Bigfoot is more believable. Wtf did they just do.
Well, i am pretty sure that when she got the job with the AG Office, they would have done a background check. I am pretty sure that they would have found easily that she was already married. And dealing with classified material they would probably want to ark her who her husband was and chick him out too. So there is a major plot hole right there.
But let say that they did not, in the preview she said that she is not married so either she was con and never knew about it or she was drunk and do not remember, Honnestly between the two i am not sure which one to choose, but i guess they will probably go with the con story by looking at the description of the guy in the spooler. This probably happen right after her mother was killed and she was probably vulnerable back then. Anyway just a guess.
Only 1 more episode and then a long 4 month of hiatus :(
Anybody think that this may just be a clerical error? I'm pretty sure she would have remembered getting married unless she was drunk and in vegas at the time so I'm calling either clerical error or someone stole her identity and that is the "kate beckett" that is married
- It is 99% a mistake, at least I hope very, very much. Otherwise (no matter that it was a drunken tour to Vegas with an instant - but legal - divorce, or else) there are a lot of four letter words on the account to Mr Marlowe.
- No matter if it is a mistake or not, doing this plot as the season finale is one of the worst idea from the writers. It doesn't matter what will be the conclusion, the mere idea of using this plot is bad. Castle had already copied so many main plot turns shamelessly from Bones that even though that was my first thought when I read Eddie McClintock's role, I convinced myself that I must be wrong. No matter how low my opinion is about Marlowe's story weaving talent even he can't be that low. This week episode was a pleasant surprise - seems they want to balance it.
You could make the argument that she's been a well developed character. To paraphrase Capt. Montgomery, Beckett was a great detective who didn't enjoy her job prior to meeting Castle. I'd say the Kate Beckett of the last 2 seasons is different from the early Kate Beckett early on because Castle made her job less about her painful past while actually allowing her to heal.
As I wrote above: no IMHO it's not fun, not the least.
At the end of TLoO Beckett was seriously concerned that her prank might misfired and with good reason. But even if that could have happened, it was a birthday, something you have every year, and can be remedy. If Castle were willing to risk Kate's unclouded happiness on a once in a lifetime moment in her life for a prank, that would be a huge letdown on his character.
It doesn't matter that - if that is the plot - the ending in the show will be shiny and happy and everything will be allright. (Because I have no doubt that this would happen.) The problem is that Castle shouldn't act as if he know that it's just a show where everything will be allright.
I don't get why this is freaking so many people out. So what if she's already married? The idea that she made a mistake when she was younger isn't too farfetched (although the idea that background checks wouldn't have brought it up long before now is).
This is clearly meant to be a light relief episode (undoubtedly with the happy ending for all you shippers at the end). So what if it's not believable? Pretty much the entire premise of the show is comical.
Oooooh, so the still-hubby has gotta be Eddie McClintock's character, right? Can someone write me some Pete Lattimer and Kate Beckett meeting at Comic Con fic?
It's not that it's not ok she was married before - it's the fact that this one big plot hole. In s1, Kate said she hasn't been married before. Before joining the FBI, they would have found this out. So how does one explain this? I"m sorry but I don't buy it.
Is it? We've followed Beckett's character for several years now, and we've seen that she's always struggled with her mother's death even as an adult. The idea that she fell off the wagon at one stage when she was younger and simply could not deal with the fact her mother was gone isn't that tenuous.
It's obvious they were in a bind once they made the decision to wrap up the murder conspiracy plotline before she got married. Which I'm happy about because having her solve it all during the wedding episode would have been very cliche.
The problem is that they still need something to solve in the wedding episode, they can't just make a happy little fanvid of the two of them walking down the aisle and everything being perfect.
Hence the mystery spouse. It's definitely a massive plot hole but it's not out of character.
If it was a little things, sure. It's forgivable. But this is messing up one huge character trait here. It would have been more believable if it was Castle that was still married - to Meredith or Gina. Why didn't they go down that route?
Sorry, I don't think you can convince me that this is ok.
Why couldn't they have Castle still married to one of his wives? Why Beckett? It would have been more unbelievable if it was Castle still being married - even to someone else completely new. THAT would have been in character seeing what a playboy he was when he was younger.
Why does it always have to be Castle? I actually find it refreshing that it isn't Castle for once. Beckett was probably undercover with this guy, they 'played' getting married and were. They will waist 20 minutes of the show getting this resolved then they get married in the last 5 minutes.
Bones went down this road with Angela and Hodgins and the story lasted for ages. I do hope that is not what the cliffhanger is going to be. Very boring and not worthy of Castle's writers.
How many psychics are there in here? Because that's the only reason I can figure out for people overreacting when they haven't. Even. Watched. The episode.... Crazy suggestion here but maybe first see how they play it out and then judge all you want.
This happens all the time with Castle fans,at least here. I stopped coming to these threads for that reason, didn't think the promo would cause all this.
But you can have Kate being married and not having the FBI know about it? Right.
I get the ep needs a crime to solve but why this? Why not them finding their minister dead? Or something unrelated - like maybe they stumble upon a case and it's a race against time to have it solve before they need to be at the church? Or heck! Maybe Pi turns up dead and Castle's best man is the prime suspect.
If the only reason for having Kate being married is to fill up time, then this is the lamest way to do it.
Still hoping it's some sort of prank or a very misleading promo.
Really? That's the best you could come up with? A surprise marriage that she can't remember? I mean even Penny remembered getting married, she didn't think it was real but she remembered.
Every spoiler site and there are people picking holes in even the best shows. It's TV enjoy it for what it is and wait for the episode to air first (promos can be very misleading). Great season I think, great show & writers:)
I said it was a plot hole, but it is still in character.
I don't know why you're so violently opposed to this, Castle's like the champion of lame a** tropes and cliches. Pretty much every episode has a couple, why are you choosing this one to get pissy over?
Why is it so important to you that Kate's never been married before? Does it bother you that Castle's about to marry his fourth wife? I think you have a bit of a double standard going here, maybe you need to check yourself.
What's so nonsensical about it? You don't know any of the circumstances of this surprise spouse yet. Why don't you just wait for the episode before banging on about how it doesn't make sense.
I know eh! LOL! People form such opinionated thoughts on THE PROMO! Maybe watch the episode first then review (criticize) the episode... Everyone knows ABC likes to create drama or play tricks with their previews.
I mean I'm not saying that the idea that Beckett was previously married and the writers using that in the wedding episode doesn't disappoint me, but at least let's just wait and see.
Yeah actually I had a worried thought that maybe that could be used as a cliffhanger and they don't actually get married until the season 7 premiere. Gosh I cannot wait that long haha.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Ew. Did they really have to go the surprise spouse route? Like seriously? I'm sure they'll still get married, but no thank you to that "twist".
ReplyDeleteI thought basically the exact same thing...ugh!
ReplyDeleteWTF dude. I am so majorly disappointed.
ReplyDeleteSo they did a trope but Kate does not know of it?? Interesting.
ReplyDeleteFantastic. Now everytime I'll be watching older seasons (specially S1) all i am gonna think about is that she is married. And omg its so unbelievable. Bigfoot is more believable. Wtf did they just do.
ReplyDeletemaybe she had to get married for an undercover mission awhile back... lol
ReplyDeleteWell, i am pretty sure that when she got the job with the AG Office, they would have done a background check. I am pretty sure that they would have found easily that she was already married. And dealing with classified material they would probably want to ark her who her husband was and chick him out too. ReplyDeleteWhat they couldn't go the pregnant route ?
ReplyDeleteNot worried at all, there have been misleading promos before
ReplyDeleteI am laughing at how predictable this was.
ReplyDeleteim laughing at how crap this show is
ReplyDeleteAnother total FAIL by Marlowe. The Kate Beckett of season 5-6 is NOT the same Kate Beckett of season 1-4.
ReplyDeleteExcept the Marlowe does NOT DO continuity, he just makes it up as he goes.
ReplyDeleteoverreacting over this promo which do not give much detail.........it probably a mistake
ReplyDeleteexactly. I mean with no murder in this episode.. they need something to investigate right? ;)
ReplyDeleteI saw somewhere a theory from a fan that would be great...this is a prank from Castle as payback for "Lives of others"...wouldn´t that be fun?!
ReplyDelete- It is 99% a mistake, at least I hope very, very much. Otherwise (no matter that it was a drunken tour to Vegas with an instant - but legal - divorce, or else) there are a lot of four letter words on the account to Mr Marlowe.

ReplyDeleteIt could still be a Prank from Castle...
ReplyDeleteNah.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know that. Either it's this or the promo is misleading...Don't think 'Milmar' are capable of this to tell the truth..
ReplyDeleteAs I wrote above: no IMHO it's not fun, not the least.

Meanwhile a certain writing couple in Mexico is having a laugh while drinking a pinocolada, its good too see a promo do its job on freaking fans out.
ReplyDeleteHappy promo day!
ReplyDeleteI don't get why this is freaking so many people out. So what if she's already married? The idea that she made a mistake when she was younger isn't too farfetched (although the idea that background checks wouldn't have brought it up long before now is).

Um, now I'm thinking Penny and her 'fake' wedding in Vegas...
ReplyDeleteDo you not know that AM play by his own rules? *rolls eyes*
ReplyDeleteSeriously?1 WTF! I would rather have a pregnancy thing.
ReplyDeleteI really hope it's some prank or a very misleading promo.
It's not that it's not ok she was married before - it's the fact that this one big plot hole. In s1, Kate said she hasn't been married before. Before joining the FBI, they would have found this out. So how does one explain this? I"m sorry but I don't buy it.
ReplyDeleteYep, first thing I thought of when I saw the promo.
ReplyDeleteBut how did she forget she is married?
ReplyDeleteIn the real world they would have yes, but Castle world hasn't been believable for many, many years so that should not really matter.
ReplyDeleteCastle hasn't really ever given much credence to realism so why would the writers start now?
Maybe she got so wasted sometime that the previous hours of her life were blank. It happens.
ReplyDeleteThat's still pretty OOC for Beckett.
ReplyDeleteIs it? We've followed Beckett's character for several years now, and we've seen that she's always struggled with her mother's death even as an adult. ReplyDelete"Why does it always have to be Castle?" LOL. Why does it always have to be Beckett?!
ReplyDeleteCompared to Beckett, Castle has hardly gotten any worthy storyline.
And no, I'm not counting the crap of a storyline that is Jackson Hunt.
Bones went down this road with Angela and Hodgins and the story lasted for ages. I do hope that is not what the cliffhanger is going to be. Very boring and not worthy of Castle's writers.
ReplyDeleteI guess i don't think Castle being married for a fourth time is a worthy storyline.
ReplyDeleteCastle is a somewhat public figure, so if he was married, it would not be a secret.
ReplyDeleteHow many psychics are there in here? Because that's the only reason I can figure out for people overreacting when they haven't. Even. Watched. The episode.... Crazy suggestion here but maybe first see how they play it out and then judge all you want.

ReplyDeleteAnd all of this before having seen the episode? Bravo!

OMG! You're so right. I mean, here's me trying to find some sense in this plot but really it's just me having a double standard. D'oh!
ReplyDeleteWhat's so nonsensical about it? You don't know any of the circumstances of this surprise spouse yet. Why don't you just wait for the episode before banging on about how it doesn't make sense.
ReplyDeleteJust have faith!! Do you remember the "Watershed" promo from last year?
ReplyDeleteI think they're just try to mislead us!!
I think was @laura3341 meant was why does it always have to be Castle that has to screw up. lol.
ReplyDeleteI know eh! LOL! People form such opinionated thoughts on THE PROMO! Maybe watch the episode first then review (criticize) the episode... Everyone knows ABC likes to create drama or play tricks with their previews.

ReplyDeleteYeah actually I had a worried thought that maybe that could be used as a cliffhanger and they don't actually get married until the season 7 premiere. Gosh I cannot wait that long haha.
ReplyDeleteAh well, if you put it in that way, I'm with you there.
ReplyDelete
