This may sound completely crazy, but what if this version of Laurel isn't meant to become Black Canary? What is she's supposed to become Speedy? What if Roy is just a ruse like Thea being called "Speedy?" The read coat and the bow/arrow makes me come to this conclusion.
Well. It is a good question. It's not exactly easy shooting a bow. The show has even showed how hard it is and how much practice you need. And I would have the same issue if Felicity was the one doing it. But I'll wait and see how it plays out on screen.
It looks like Felicity isn't injured yet in these photos. So I'm trying to get the timing right. Oliver and Laurel try to find a way to escape while Digg fights Rochev (which I think he wins because he's still alive and kicking. OH maybe Felicity will help him? She could run her over with the van). They all regroup and then split up into pairs. Felicity goes with Diggle to get the Mirakuru cure from S.T.A.R labs while Oliver and Laurel do something else? Have a nice leisurely stroll on the streets? Felicity and Digg then get into a car crash and I'm sure Oliver is there to help them get out of the wreck (considering there were photos of SA, EBR circling around and she's obviously been hurt at that point). After this I don't really know what happens. Surely they'll mostly be some epic fight scenes.
Meanwhile, Thea in all this would probably be saved by Malcolm Merlyn considering Oliver doesn't know she's still in Starling.
I think by the end of the episode we will find out who will get kidnapped. My theory is, is that it's going to be Felicity. I only say this because Laurel is going to stick with Oliver no matter what. She's essentially useless in the Foundry and I doubt she'll want to be away from the action anyways... So while Felicity is on her way back to the foundry to assist her boys with the magic of technology, Slade will probably intercept and take her... Oliver/Digg will probably find out she's missing after they realize the comms have been silent for an inordinately long time (and that's how I think the episode will end.)
Why is Laurel in most of the promo pics? They have to know that she is a controversial character at best. Why not give us pics of Malcolm, Slade, Ravager, or whatever. Anything but Laurel.
And there is is competently handling the bow when it took Oliver a while to get it and Roy is still having trouble. Christ.
Way to not make me hyped for the final episodes, show.
yes, appropriate flashbacks to Laurel doing training..hopefully; she decided not to become a victim any more..or the poor left behind sister when she realized that this life is not just about "her" whatever..perfect parallel to fighting addictions, too..
I like Laurel and hope she gets stronger each episode, with or without Oliver. An independent smart kick-ass woman !
Can I just mention that I really don't like the distance between Oliver and his team in the first image? It just doesn't feel right! They're usually huddled up and awesome :/
what are you talking about Laurel is not a mystery, she's not someone that has no story or purpose when it comes to the story of this particular comic book. you call her a controversial character, why exactly? We all know who she is, whether you hate her or like her we still are very certain about who this character is in/on this series/show. so maybe that's why they are pimping her so that u won't mistake who she when it comes to this show then again it could be just to show her and Ollie doing the "teaming up" thing.
It's an interesting theory but I don't think Walter is going to be kidnapped again... It doesn't make sense because the episode guide said that whoever gets kidnapped is close to Oliver's heart and I don't think Walter is.
While Felicity may not be close to his heart in a romantic manner, she is in a sense that she's his partner and that he relies on her. I even like to think of her as his moral compass (which is only strengthened by the fact that in the last episode she asked Oliver if he knew what he was doing by killing the Mirakuru soldiers). So it makes sense why it would either be her, Digg, Laurel, Thea, or Sara (but I doubt it's Sara because she's with Nyssa).
I'm going to stick with Walter because I think it's someone where it would be good enough story but no drama, like the writers won't have to choose which girl, so they decide to not even make it a girl. lol Plus, Walter is someone that matters to Oliver he was the guy's stepdad for a while and Walter is a good man so we would feel him.
I just have one question, then I'm going back to my TVD thread. Ummm...is this the episode where Ollie is taking care of Felicity's hand? Or is that in the finale?
WAIT WHAT. Let me see this photo because I have not seen it! Also it might be this episode. I have an eerie feeling she might be the one who's kidnapped by the end of the episode! Well... It's either her or Digg.
An archery question ... wouldn't Oliver's bow be adjusted to his arm strength? How would Laurel be able to draw it then? Or did they stop along the way to adjust it to hers?
I don't see it that way? I guess we'll see soon! And if Slade isn't kidnapping a woman, then he's for sure kidnapping Digg. Arrow writers would jump at a chance for more drama. I mean come on, this is the CW :p
Plus, I think it would be all the more effective to kidnap a member of Oliver's team... Remember, Slade wants to inflict the most pain onto Oliver... Walter doesn't quite cut it (especially because of the fact that he has very little scenes with Oliver throughout the series).
I don't know anything about that kidnapping thing. I don't do too many spoilers. I eespecially stay away from synopsis'. Just letting you know since you're a newb. I just do tiny teases here and there, so I'm gonna erase that from my memory and forget you said that. Hahahaha. As for the Olicity picture, you're gonna have to go a few columns back in the Arrow section. Idr off the top of my head where it was. But I remember it being in the promotional pics.
that's actually why I think it will be him because less drama but you could be right this is the CW and they live for melodrama. so I'll go with wait and see. I just hope it's not a woman I could go for Diggle (love him) but really don 't need to see another woman in distress. I think that why I digging Laurel's story so much right now she doesn't listen, she's stubborn but she is being a strong young woman.
Oof, you and I have very differing opinions about Laurel's arc right now! I wish I were on the same boat as you, it would probably make me enjoy the show more...
I think that while Laurel is strong and stubborn, she's also being incredibly stupid. Didn't she learn her lesson last season when Tommy died? There's a reason why Oliver didn't want her to go. He can't look out for her as well as fight an army of super soldiers at the same time. In the end I think she might be more of a burden than anything else.
I also think that she's probably going to get in between Oliver and the team at one point (you can just see the distance between the team in the first photo). I'm not sure Felicity nor Digg like her very much, it shows especially with how steely they were with each other in the foundry.
lol it's okay I just love stories like this and Laurel is being the typical super-hero not quite/gf or whatever atm. she is going to get in btw him and his team, they will resent her but they will also see that he needs her. She's just playing the role of that hero's ex when he becomes her own super-hero he will be more than just the girl who is right now amusing and frustrating Ollie a the same time. Think Lois Lane that girl got into more trouble than I care to think about and more annoying at times the any female should be but she was also someone that Clark/SM needed.
See I thought about the Clark/Lois thing... I have to say I didn't really mind it because Clark works alone and he's infinitely times more difficult to kill. Whereas Oliver has a team he has to worry about as well, and 1/3 of that team can't defend herself physically even if her life depended on it (I love Felicity, but she wouldn't stand a chance with a Mirakuru soldier... Unless she runs over them with a car or something).
I hate how Laurel being there not only puts herself in jeopardy, but it puts Oliver, Digg, AND Felicity in jeopardy too. It was extremely selfish of her to disobey orders like that because her being there really makes it difficult for Oliver to focus on his mission. I swear to god, if Laurel is the reason Felicity or Digg gets hurt, even by proxy, I don't think they'll ever be able to redeem her character in my eyes again. I know that's a sweeping statement, but it's the truth.
And I don't think Oliver needs her as much as he needs his team. He relies on them more. Hell, he functions perfectly without Laurel, but he can't function without Digg or Felicity? That doesn't make it look like Oliver needs her :/
And while I can imagine a future where Oliver/Laurel are together in the comics (since they're divorced right now). I can't ever see that future for them in the show. The writers destroyed the idea of them ever getting together as soon as Oliver/Sara got together both before the island and after the island. Sorry, but any self respecting woman won't want to be with someone who cheated on them with their sister... Also the chemistry between Stephen and Katie is just horrible. I can't ever see Laurel amusing Oliver like Felicity does.
Holy crap this is long. I apologize. i just have a lot of feelings. Unfortunately I can't bake a cake full of rainbows and smiles and just be happy :p
no worries. lol but I think you and I will never see this the same way because I see Oliver and his feelings for this woman very differently. He still loves her I doubt he will be allowed to get over her. the sara thing was nothing she was nothing more than a way to even up the tommy sitch but then again I'm into on-off couples infact this particular pairing is very soap-operish they love, they hate, they fight but they can't get the other out of their system. while it may have been selfish for her to go there and put herself/others in danger it would have been less realistic for her to actually stay behind and wait it out. she's in love with that man inspite of all the crap she still loves him and she probably felt like she couldn't just wait for a phone call. the funny part about all of this is that it seems like it wasn't done for any other reason than to show you that Laurel is still very much into Oliver Queen. this is a sappy soapy plot device about the couple that will never really be over one another.
And Oliver's response in the promo "nice shot". This is too comical. Realistically she could have learned archery after episode 19 though. This could however just be a cheesy throw away scene.
The same thing could be said about Sara - remember The Mayor episode when she used his bow and he used her staff? It didn't look like she adjusted the bow to her own strength and it's obvious she isn't as strong as Oliver. Oliver knows how to control his strength so he could probably use the bow at a weaker adjustment.
No one is as strong as Oliver, except maybe Diggle. But Sara is strong enough to do the salmon ladder for half an hour at a time. Laurel looks like a strong wind would break her in two.
First of all Laurel shooting the bow - so wrong, second unrealistic. It took Oliver weeks before he had the strenght to even make tension of the bow and a whole lot practice to shoot it!!!
If someone on the show calls her Arrowette I will laugh. Arrowette (golden age version) was a character that got in Green Arrow's way. The more modern version wore a red outfit just like the color of Laurel's jacket.
Looks can be deceiving though. Maybe she has a strong mind and she's like Steven Seagal - not really muscular but used mind over matter type stuff. We haven't really seen Laurel in the same way we've seen Sara though. She could have a bit of a sick pack underneath.
This perfectly defines Laurel :p (Dear gods, please. Let Laurel become the Arrowette).
To be honest, I know a lot of people want Laurel to be the Black Canary, but I don't think they want her to be BC for the right reasons. I feel like it's because of the name and nothing else of substance. I don't know if you agree or not, but it's what I've been seeing in all of the columns especially IGN. They don't care that Laurel in Arrow and Laurel in the comics are completely different people, just because her name is Dinah Laurel Lance, she HAS to be BC? I just don't buy it :/
They also had one with Oliver, Felicity and Diggle. Promos and sneak peaks aren't going to show too much in an episode. In the promo video they show Malcolm but not in the pictures. Maybe because it would be spoiling too much.
Well they are in the midst of a major battle do you think Laurel would be safer in her own apartment that Slade knows about? I think it's because she feels safer with Oliver or it could be she wants to make sure every one is okay especially Oliver.
Lol I'm okay with Laurel sticking to Oliver! I mean where else would she go? The foundry isn't technically theirs anymore! What I was trying to say is that I would be upset if she got in between the trio though. You know, inspire petty arguments between Oliver and Felicity/Digg again and whatnot. It's clear Felicity/Diggle aren't comfortable around Laurel and Laurel doesn't really make an effort with F&D so tensions will arise for sure! I just took that image as a symbol for what's to come you know? I just hope Oliver doesn't get blindsided by her again.
And Smallville did some REALLY CHEESY STUFF. It's quite amazing how cheesy it was. Regardless, I hope they don't simplify Laurel's arc like they have in the past in order to make her BC. Her journey from drug addict/ alcoholic was so oversimplified that it made it hard to believe. If they do make her BC, i hope they take their time with it. I hope that Sara doesn't die to 'inspire' Laurel to become BC because that's just way too predictable. And I won't accept that because Sara really grew on me over the past few weeks. I even missed her the last episode! And I was only joking about the Arrowette comment I hope you know :p While it does perfectly define Laurel at this moment, I don't want her to always be annoying. I don't think the joke-ish tone translated well on text! My bad!
I swear if Laurel takes a shot & actually hits someone with any accuracy I will be pissed & might punch the writers in the head next time I see them. She weighs 50 lbs & has had no actual training with a bow. No, just Fucking NO.
Hmm Mirakuru Soldier has a couple Black arrows in his back. I'm guessing this is Malcolms work at the train station.
Too man-like? haha I don't like too muscle tone body at women (and men) too but I don't think Caity fits this category. It's really sad that there are people who would say that Katie's unhealty look is attractive and Caity's healthy look is unattractive.
he did say that but that ship has sailed. the minute he brought in Roy and Sara it stopped being a team of 3. Roy will wake up and he is suppose to be working with the Arrow and in all honesty we really haven't seen those two bond and become friends (that's still to come) so he isn't going anywhere and as for Laurel she is just going to replace Sara as being the NEW girl on the team. Oliver did this and tbh I don't think he's done. I see him adding even more people before all is said and done.
I don't think she even needs to inspire petty arguments. Just her being on the Team would do it. The writers seem to think that she's more important to the show than the Team Arrow of Oliver/Diggle/Felicity and they will write to that. That would make most of Oliver's scenes about her, just as when Sara was there she was Oliver's fighting and relationship partner and Diggle and Felicity were basically background.
Someone elsewhere suggested that they were trying Laurel out for the role of Red Arrow in these episodes, which would leave Sara as the Black Canary and make Sara fans happy.
since she's shooting with a compound bow custom made for Oliver it's very likely that it's adjusted to his strenght. Likely but not for sure, usually changing the draw weight isn't recomended. Most professionals keep it at 65lbs (standard settings).
Laurel should have no issues with that draw weight unless she has never worked out once in her life. She might struggle with the first pull but that'd be about it
It's my guess that Felicity is not the one that is kidnaped (as much as I hope it is so we can get some good olicity moments) I'm thinking Laurel or more likely Sara. I know everyone says it won't be Sara but since she's supposed to eventually die and on Katie Cassidy's imbd page it just changed from Laurel Lance to black canary for episode 3.1 that's my prediction...I hope I'm wrong!
If it was Felicity with a bow I wonder what the reaction would be? Sure she hangs around the Arrow cave a lot so it's possible - even though most of the time she's doing computer work.
"while it may have been selfish for her to go there and put herself/others in danger it would have been less realistic for her to actually stay behind and wait it out."
...Sure. That's why we heard about all those spouses randomly showing up to firefights in Iraq :P If Laurel is so obsessed with Oliver that she'll put tons of people at risk, then he should get a restraining order.
Lol everyone can do an edit on imdb. I wouldn't pay too much attention to it. And since Sara will still be holding the title of Canary, i cant imagine how Laurel could have that title by the start of season 3.
They did that on a the same day it was airing. And it got people excited for the episode, since there was team Arrow. But the way they took the episode with the Laurel plot was disappointing. For 2 weeks straight they keep focusing on Laurel heavy promo, but very few people actually get excited for it. It only enforces the opinion that they pushing Laurel and sidelining other characters. I know they trying to fix Laurel, but the way they are going about just isn't working. Laurel is supposed to be a tough and competent lawyer. Why not show us that. They had the Diggle/Felicity interrogation scene which was awesome, why not have Laurel have some kind of showdown with Blood. And then have Laurel confide into Arrow about what she found out about Slade and Blood. Her being dismissive of Diggle/Felicity, then whining to go with Oliver and the i know you in my bones line is one of the worst thing they could have done for the character of Laurel.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteas a former archery instructor: you can fire a straight arrow at your third try...just throwing that out.
ReplyDeleteThe art is to calculate the distance and the aim.
laurels wearing red. Uh oh. For your own sake Laurel take that coat off. Red is not good for characters going into battle #redshirt
ReplyDeletei still yhink she shots a a wall lol! anyways the episode looks awesome

They also had one with Oliver, Felicity and Diggle. Promos and sneak peaks aren't going to show too much in an episode. In the promo video they show Malcolm but not in the pictures. Maybe because it would be spoiling too much.
ReplyDeleteWell they are in the midst of a major battle do you think Laurel would be safer in her own apartment that Slade knows about? I think it's because she feels safer with Oliver or it could be she wants to make sure every one is okay especially Oliver.
ReplyDeleteLol I'm okay with Laurel sticking to Oliver!
ReplyDeleteI've seen those photos too but like I said it isn't relevant especially since she isn't the Black Canary yet.
ReplyDeleteArrowette sounds cheesy. Even Smallville wouldn't have done that.
ReplyDeleteAnd Smallville did some REALLY CHEESY STUFF. My bad!
ReplyDeleteI swear if Laurel takes a shot & actually hits someone with any accuracy I will be pissed & might punch the writers in the head next time I see them. She weighs 50 lbs & has had no actual training with a bow. No, just Fucking NO.
ReplyDeleteHmm Mirakuru Soldier has a couple Black arrows in his back. I'm guessing this is Malcolms work at the train station.
Oliver said it best "this started with the 3 of us, its time we get back to that"
ReplyDeleteToo man-like? haha I don't like too muscle tone body at women (and men) too but I don't think Caity fits this category. It's really sad that there are people who would say that Katie's unhealty look is attractive and Caity's healthy look is unattractive.
ReplyDeletehe did say that but that ship has sailed. the minute he brought in Roy and Sara it stopped being a team of 3.
ReplyDelete"It was extremely selfish of her to disobey orders like "
ReplyDeleteOrders?! Who the hell is she to take orders?
I don't think she even needs to inspire petty arguments. Just her being on the Team would do it. The writers seem to think that she's more important to the show than the Team Arrow of Oliver/Diggle/Felicity and they will write to that. That would make most of Oliver's scenes about her, just as when Sara was there she was Oliver's fighting and relationship partner and Diggle and Felicity were basically background.
ReplyDeleteSomeone elsewhere suggested that they were trying Laurel out for the role of Red Arrow in these episodes, which would leave Sara as the Black Canary and make Sara fans happy.
Someone who wants to help Oliver fight Slade?
ReplyDeletesince she's shooting with a compound bow custom made for Oliver it's very likely that it's adjusted to his strenght.
ReplyDeleteLikely but not for sure, usually changing the draw weight isn't recomended. Most professionals keep it at 65lbs (standard settings).
Laurel should have no issues with that draw weight unless she has never worked out once in her life. She might struggle with the first pull but that'd be about it
A person who is new to the game, that's who. Oliver ordered her to stay back for a reason.
ReplyDeleteIt's my guess that Felicity is not the one that is kidnaped (as much as I hope it is so we can get some good olicity moments) I'm thinking Laurel or more likely Sara. I know everyone says it won't be Sara but since she's supposed to eventually die and on Katie Cassidy's imbd page it just changed from Laurel Lance to black canary for episode 3.1 that's my prediction...I hope I'm wrong!
ReplyDeleteIf it was Felicity with a bow I wonder what the reaction would be? Sure she hangs around the Arrow cave a lot so it's possible - even though most of the time she's doing computer work.
ReplyDeleteme too
ReplyDelete"while it may have been selfish for her to go there and put herself/others in danger it would have been less realistic for her to actually stay behind and wait it out."
ReplyDelete...Sure. That's why we heard about all those spouses randomly showing up to firefights in Iraq :P
If Laurel is so obsessed with Oliver that she'll put tons of people at risk, then he should get a restraining order.
Lol everyone can do an edit on imdb. I wouldn't pay too much attention to it. And since Sara will still be holding the title of Canary, i cant imagine how Laurel could have that title by the start of season 3.
ReplyDeleteThey did that on a the same day it was airing.
ReplyDeleteHer being dismissive of Diggle/Felicity, then whining to go with Oliver and the i know you in my bones line is one of the worst thing they could have done for the character of Laurel.
I love the last Malcolm/Thea picture.
ReplyDeleteReally excited for Malcolm's return!
ReplyDeleteLaurel with a bow??? No way!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL.. 'he should get a restraining order' lol
