it's weird hearing oliver talk with anybody in that hood without his voice modulator.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Couldnt they give us some other scenes. Most of these we saw through the promos.

    ReplyDelete
  5. So Oliver is on one side of the debris, Laurel, his bow and his arrows are on the other? How the hell does that work?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Aaaaand all the 'why does Laurel know how to shoot a bow yadayada' bs ends.
That being said I never had to explain anyone how to shoot a bow in that much detail :P

    ReplyDelete
  7. maybe something happen that seperate his bow and arrows from him

    ReplyDelete
  8. Awesome sneak peek. Hope that all the silly hate and anger as to how Laurel used the bow should somehow dissipate with this clip.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The bigger question is how did Oliver get separated from his bow and arrows?

    ReplyDelete
  10. When the rubble came down, he was holding his bow and had his quiver on his back.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Does is it really matter? Would you be asking the same question if it was Felicity shooting the arrow instead of Laurel?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes. It makes no sense. I just want them to explain it in the episode, is all.

    ReplyDelete
  13. can we call her Red Arrow from tomorrow or do we have to wait season 4?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Asking why a vigilante who uses archery to fight crime would go somewhere without his bow and quiver when he's surrounded by a bunch of bad guys is a valid question no matter who is involved.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The person above is questioning how Oliver is separated from his bow and quiver when a bunch of debris falls on top of him and Laurel. My point was I don't need to see the super slo mo of the debris falling on top of Oliver and seeing the arrow and bow come sliding off and ending up a few feet away from him.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Just spit balling/fan wanking here - he covered himself with both hands when the rocks started falling, thereby leaving the bow. During all this he also rolled to get away from the debris thus losing his quiver. If they don't explain it, that's the head canon I am going with. :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Neither do I. All it needs is a quick "I got separated from the bow when the debris came down", or words to that effect. As long as they explain it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That they would show a "Laurel saves the day" sneak peek at this point shows they really don't get why people don't like her.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You're assuming that this scene is a continuation from the end of the last episode though. For all we know they climbed out from under that rubble, walked around a bit, and then found themselves in the situation in the clip.

No one needs to see super slo-mo proof of how it happened if it's the same scene. If it isn't, it's natural to wonder how he got separated, that's all.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ok that is cool. I misunderstood your original post, had the feeling you were saying that it was impossible that it would happen.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Heh. You should have started your post with:
The "Laurel" rules: Chapter 1: Everything Laurel does, no matter how mundane, must be spun negatively and done so in a tone of ample indignation.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Still the sneak peak doesn't seem to have pleased people. I think they overdid it with Laurel in the extended promo and sneak peak for the second week in a row. It seems they throwing all Laurel scenes at us before the episode even airs. In my opinion they trying to hard for people to like Laurel right now. Personally i would have preferred a Merlyn sneak peak, since i think it would have brought the excitement up a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh thank goodness. I liked this. This seems believable. For all my complaints against Laurel all this season I truly think writers have taken a right step by bringing her into Arrow's world. Now if they only take extra care on the dialogues when they give monologues for Laurel and make it less melodramatic it will be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  24. can't wait to see this episode. loved how Ollie talked her through it and it answered "that" question. lol

    ReplyDelete
  25. I was skeptical about this. But I'm glad that they showed Oliver explaining to Laurel how to shoot the bow, also the fact that it was a trick arrow means that her shot didn't even have to be spot on, makes it more believable. Still doesn't make me excited for tomorrow though :p Laurel heavy promos just don't get me excited at all :/

ALSO, can I just say, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I DIDN'T ROLL MY EYES AT LAUREL. About time this happened.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The CW promo department is responsible for promos and sneak peeks. They are not under the purview of the Arrow production team. So, if by "they" you mean the creative team behind Arrow, then you should know they have nothing to do with this at all.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why does everyone hate Laurel?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I may write that novel in the summer...

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am trying to comprehend this: Are you stating that they should have released a sneak peek that pleases the fans? Next thing, someone will say that the creators of the show should kill off a character just because fans don't like him/her/it. If the showrunners started pleasuring (pun intended) every whim of the fans, then we can safely say goodbye to their creativity and credibility as writers.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes! If not Felicity/Digg then at least a Malcolm Merlyn one? He's a million times more interesting than Laurel to be honest. I was hoping this to be a more Malcolm/team Arrow central episode, but I'm slowly being proven wrong aren't I? :/

    ReplyDelete
  31. An excerpt from the Arrowible -
"And thus is was that whole of Starling was beloved by everyone, everyone except ye sister of ye god-like Sara: Laurel. And so the fandom screamed: Thou shall not show thy face, thou shall not touch my stuff, thou shall not do anything heroic...be gone creature"

in all honesty: people called me a sexist when I grew annoyed with the Sara-overexposure, then what is this ?
Girl can't do anything without being bashed by Olicity, 'Sara is the only canary' or whatever fans.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "Granted it was a few years ago, but when I worked in television the promo department took their cue from the show's producers."

The Arrow producers were just recently completely blindsided by CW's promo department spoiling the Harley Quinn cameo in a 30 second ad for the show. They didn't know anything about it until after it aired. That should tell you how much input the Arrow team has in the show's promotion.

    ReplyDelete
  33. No, but if the show releases a video of a character that many people dislike in an attempt to promote an episode, surely that defeats the point? If they show us a sneak peek of Malcolm being in the episode for the first time, and then a "Hello Thea" (or something), excitement levels rise.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I didn't mean 'everything' LITERALLY, I thought that would've been clear. My mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh PLEASE don't make all the hate about shipping. Just don't. Some people hate Laurel because they have legitimate reasons. It's not about Olicity. It's not about who Oliver ends up with. Stop demonizing an ENTIRE fanbase for a couple of comments some tweens made.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think "being annoyed by their mere presence" would have been more accurate.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes, that's what I was going for.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, I'm glad they showed Laurel isn't a superb archer at this point. I was fearing their urges to make her a heroine would turn her into a Mary Sue... I don't like her particularly, but is good to see she's trying.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I suspect they were blind-sided because it didn't occur to them that the promo department would put that out. If it had, maybe they would told them "do a promo but don't include Harley Quinn".

AK told Matt Mittovich that he didn't understand why people don't like Laurel so obviously he knows about it. Even if they are not suggesting what to promo or sneak peek, it seems sensible to say "Don't lead with Laurel because a lot of fans don't like the character".

    ReplyDelete
  40. I hope not, I'd like to see that episode.

But after Streets of Blood, when no sooner had Oliver said that it was the job of the three of them and then it was Oliver/Laurel fighting, I don't have my hopes up.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I thought the point of a promo/sneak peak is to gather excitement for a show. For that i would think focusing on something other what we already seen a lot in photos and promos would be good. I was actually wondering how they will resolve the Laurel +bow story, but it was already revealed in this sneak peak. I want to be teased in promos, not be told before the episode even airs.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Bradley, let me give you another example. You're a POI fan. You do know that fan opinion on Shaw is fairly divisive 9 I love her to death). There's a vocal minority that hates her character not too dissimilar from all the Laurel hate. If CBS releases a sneak peek that features Shaw (like last week), then these fans would be saying: why this sneak peek? Why more of Shaw? This defeats the purpose of getting up (my/our) excitement level? Do their excitement levels fall? Maybe. Will they still be tuning in to watch the episode. Most definitely. Do they even stop for a second and think that there's a vast majority of fans out there who are not affected by this hate and they treat a sneak peek for what it is: a small sequence of events that are going to happen in the next episode and nothing else.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't think it's confined to shippers or to Arrow. For whatever reason, when some people in the CW audience don't like a character (for any reason) they look for any opportunity to debase and discredit that character. It's the internet version of dogpiling and its a phenomenon mostly associated with youth-oriented programming.

    ReplyDelete
  44. They're really screwing with us like that. "HEY AUDIENCE, HERE'S WHAT YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR, THE TRIO TOGEtHER ONCE AGAIN" *last 5 minutes of the episode airs* "LOL NOPE JK, IT'S GONNA BE ABOUT OLIVER/LAUREL NOT tEAM ARROW. PSYCH".

    That's just beyond cruel.

    ReplyDelete
  45. But they know there are people that dislike Laurel. Surely they'd be better served giving us a sneak peek of a character that a lot of people like?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Then they should stop fretting over public opinion so much and just write the character how they want to write her.

    ReplyDelete
  47. How are they better served? Will it increase ratings? Or does this sneak peek assure a low rating? Nothing of that sort. Fans (complainers included) will still tune in to watch the episode and the next after that.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Maybe the key is in the word "tease"?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Beyond cruel.... stupid. Bait and switch.

So they really think that this will get people to like Laurel more, to have her disrupt what they know people want? Time for a course in marketing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. maybe it's not about being cruel. they could just be trying to tell us that it's no longer just the 3 of them it actually stopped being the 3 of them the second Oliver brought in Roy and Sara so now it's just their way of saying team arrow has grown and more than likely it will continue to grow.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It's sort of like a negative drift phenomena. Once a character is deemed unlikable, there's nothing the writers can do to prove that she CAN be likable. And the harder the writers try to integrate that character into the plot, the more unlikable they seem. And so the negativity sort of drifts and becomes worse.

I have to say that I'm one of those who's letting the negativity drift. At this point I feel like the writers are trying to hard and feel like they're pretty much shoving Laurel down our throats and screaming "PLEASE LIKE HER. SHE'S NOT THAT USELESS". Unfortunately I still don't see her use beyond this episode. I personally hope she 'dies'. Sara takes her to LoA where Laurel will train for a season, and have Laurel come back as a badass in season 4. I can't take anymore retconning. I'd rather focus on Diggle's and Felicity's backstory, Merlyn, etc. I feel like a lot of screentime has been wasted on her this season and it makes me resent Laurel even more :/

    ReplyDelete
  52. If people who hate Laurel think she'll have a lot to do, they might DVR the show instead of watching live. If said people don't watch the adverts (the point of advertisers getting involved), DVR ratings won't be as high.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Even if it no longer is just about the three of them, Oliver hasn't realized it. That, I think, is key. Part of his journey to hero is to realize he can't do it all on his own, and he has to find the people he can trust, not only to back him up, but to challenge him when he goes off the rail. For Oliver, who wants to keep it all to himself, and as few people as possible, it's still about the "three." And that is why he suffers. If he opened up to the reality it's about so many more: it's about the people he cares for, it's about the people he is worried about, it's about the people who have his back, it's about the people who depend upon him, and its about the other heroes who emerge with him. That's a lot more than three.

    ReplyDelete
  54. If people decide, based on a one minute clip (and no other evidence) that a whole episode is focused on a particular character, and take steps to DVR the episode (and what not) then they're dumb. Simple as that.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't disagree.

    ReplyDelete
  56. This clip plus Laurel heavy promo pictures usually tend to mean that she's in a lot of the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well, as I mentioned a little bit ago, I think the Arrow people should stop worrying about exit polling their characters for likability and just write all their characters the way they want to write them. The negative influence of social media on modern television is frustrating to say the least.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I agree, for the most part. It's because they decided, from the get go, she must be shoehorned into the Black Canary. If they told the story well, I don't think we would mind.

    ReplyDelete
  59. People hate change. They just want things to be as they were. IMO, this makes TV shows stagnant and mundane. So, what if Team Arrow has expanded. It's not like some blood oath between 3 characters that they will always remain three and not add anyone else.(that would be juvenile). The show is expanding its Universe and therefore nothing will remain the same. Fans need to accept that and move on.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Totally agree. The sense of entitlement in this thread is too much to digest.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Entitlement to what? If I may ask. I feel like as long as people have legitimate reasons to not like a character, then I don't see the issue? People are entitled to speak their opinions as they are entitled to hate a character and express why. It's a comment section, what else do you think will go on here? I'm just glad people are being adults and having a discussion rather than outright bashing the characters/people.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm not talking about the internet, I'm talking about the four people in real life that I persuaded to watch this show by telling them how great it was.

Laurel happened to be the person with Oliver at the time because the writers wanted it to be Laurel fighting at Oliver's side to win the big battle at the end of the season. He told her to stay back, she still went even though she had no fighting skills and had not reason to be out there, and she gets to save Oliver. It's really, really inorganic writing, but they've been shoe-horning her in all season.

    You wrote in another thread:
"I'd love to see the writers up their game a few notches but I just don't think that the Arrow people (or anyone with a show on that network) have the cojones to try it."

I don't think it's about cojones, I think it's about the quality of writing, and the ability to step outside of their fantasy world and see objectively what they are creating on the screen. I don't think the Arrow EPs have that any more. What they think will be clever and surprise us, doesn't.

"Then they should stop fretting over public opinion so much and just write the character how they want to write her."

They can either write the character who they see in their heads, or they can write her to be that character for the audience, in which case they have to pay attention to how the audience perceives her. Without the audience, there is no show..

The OUaT writers last season wrote Regina the way they wanted to, and the audience saw her as Pity Party Regina and turned off. The writers listened, and this year the show as well as Regina has been much better.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I agree with you. Sort of. I think while the writers should stop pandering to certain fanbases, they should also listen to them and see what's resonating with people and what isn't so they could make certain course corrections. It's what makes TV so great, to a certain point, people DO have a say in what may or may not happen.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm sure kids are totally leading such heated discussions about Dog with a Blog and Phinneas and Pherb

    ReplyDelete
  65. Technically, I don't see how she could be a Mary Sue

    ReplyDelete
  66. When I say entitlement I mean as in : "We want/don't want this/that". "This/That should/shouldn't happen.

People are entitled to their opinions and likes/dislikes. But saying that the creators should give them what they want or not give them what they don't want , that is entitlement of the worst sort.

    ReplyDelete
  67. That's an ad hominem argument.

I also grew tired of the Sara over-exposure but that's because, along with the Laurel addiction arc, it took time away from all the other characters on the show, such as Roy and Diggle, and Thea, and Moira...

    ReplyDelete
  68. Gee, more Roy is about the last thing I need. He gave his best performance in last weeks episode though

    ReplyDelete
  69. I don't agree fans shouldn't dedicate what should happen on a show. we are not the creators. now we do have a choice, we could watch or not watch but we shouldn't go around thinking that we have a right to tell them how to tell their stories. I don't agree with that and I do feel like Bruce F is right social media negative influence is frustrating but I also like that showrunners are sticking to their guns and writing their story no matter even if some dislike it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. If last week was any indication as to what it would be like if Laurel was on team arrow, then I don't like where this show is going. She was awkwardly put there, I literally felt uncomfortable with her there in the foundry. It's not about change, it's about the fact that it was LAUREL there. I actually liked Roy and Sara in the foundry. But that doesn't mean I didn't miss the original team arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  71. If I could write the series, I would have a surprise ending, a cliff hanger, where we find the real big bad has been Doctor Light. He's been controlling everything behind the scenes. He's paying Slade, who took the job, not only because he is a merc, but also he saw an opportunity to punish Oliver in the process.

Oh. And I would have Matt Smith play Doctor Light.

    ReplyDelete
  72. No I said to a certain point. I didn't outright say the fans should dictate where the shows go. TV shows are nothing without an audience. Why not get some input from them?

    ReplyDelete
  73. When it comes to TV, I'm a traditionalist. The television industry has been cranking out scripted programs since the 1950s without benefit of constant feedback from viewers whether it's wanted or not. I know most modern TV watchers don't like to hear this but they don't need our input and never have. It's convenient for anyone working in TV who happens to have an issue they want addressed by the fans but, other than that, they've been doing just fine on their own for well over a half century.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Great shows need don't need input from audiences. They stand tall on the shoulders of their excellent creators and writers and not bow down to fan pandering.

    ReplyDelete
  75. because you can't please everybody and there comes a time when you just have to trust yourself and believe your vision and I think that is what real creators and show runners do. I mean at the end of the day we do have a choice we don't have to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  76. The audience has a say in what happens to a show by not watching. If for example, Arrow fans hate Laurel and can't deal with her character if she becomes part of Team Arrow in season 3, than the fans can stop watching.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Dude. You can't just say that about a show that already has low ratings. Arrow might be renewed for season 3, but if people stop watching, then it might not be renewed for season 4. Stop telling people to stop watching.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I think its how the producers have been teasing the episodes, as the return of the original Team Arrow from previous episodes. People got excited and then as the episode aired they felt disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Ahh, unfortunately times have changed and now ratings is all that matters. A show can be phenomenally written and yet still get cancelled (Firefly, Veronica Mars, etc.) This is why sometimes it's good to get some input from the audience. See what they like, what they don't like so they don't end up beating a dead horse. I hope I'm making sense? :p

    ReplyDelete
  80. Now ratings are all that matters? That's the way it has always been. Ratings have always been the bottom line.

    ReplyDelete
  81. As she's caring, pretty, confident, smart, can kick ass... shot a bow without training? Too much, really.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Wow!! Look at the comments flow like a fast moving river.

Dammit!! I promised myself that I would stay away from any and all Arrow discussion threads and watch the show in my own peaceful bubble. Why do I keep dragging myself back into the quagmire?

Will drop in occasionally from now on. Peace.

    ReplyDelete
  83. She didn't really shoot the bow in any way which required training. And a Mary Sue has other expectations: when it is a character long established, who is known to be a hero already, the direction they took to become that hero does not turn their story into a Mary Sue story.

    ReplyDelete
  84. XD. Come on now, Mac. You know that's not what I meant.

P.S. - Phinneas is really dragging that show down. Anyone can see that Pherb is totally pulling all the weight on that show for the both of them. :P

    ReplyDelete
  85. I mean, the system is outdated. Viewers have more options rather than watching it live. If people aren't excited about it, they'll DVR it or watch it online later. The fact that the ratings don't show how many people DVR the show and the fact that networks don't give a damn about those numbers means that a drop in ratings isn't what a show needs in order for it to get renewed. So what can shows do? Get some audience input. Keep them excited and sated. Promo the hell out of their shows.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Bruce. DO YOU HAVE EYES. It's totally Pherb who's dragging the show down. smh

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hope you do! I always like hearing your input :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. What needs to change in Season 3:

We need a more expansive view of the world, which has cross-overs with Flash. We need to move off the Island for good. We need Oliver becoming the subversive hero he is, who questions the actions of other heroes, and acts as their conscience. That's right, Oliver needs to come through everything and end up on top, seeing through the ends justify the means, and meaning it for himself and others. Have Oliver face off with many would-be good guys, like Wallard, on this basis; even challenge the Flash, to make the Flash a hero. Make him the conscience of the city and of others, instead of wrestling with it himself.

    ReplyDelete
  89. If you don't like Roy, that's okay. But he was in the middle of a big storyline (adapting to getting shot up with mirakuru) when they pulled him out of it, even cutting at least one of his scenes to make more room for Sara and Laurel.

The part of the show that keeps me coming back is the Team Arrow of Oliver/Diggle/Felicity because they're interesting and funny and the dynamics of the three work very well. I feel like the show has moved away from that and got caught up with characters and storylines I have no interest in.

Basically it's the writing. I think Katie Cassidy isn't one of the strongest of the show's actors but it's more the way they keep trying to push Laurel into storylines where she doesn't fit organically. There was no storytelling reason for her to be out there in the street with Oliver but they want to make her the co-star.

Having the show push her like this in terms of promotion is a complete turn-off for me.

How would you feel if they did that with Roy? At least they gave him some archery practice before he had to shoot in a peril scene.

    ReplyDelete
  90. That bleeds into a larger issue. The more scripted television available, the more options there are, the more diluted the talent pool becomes on both sides of the camera. Modern pay TV and the internet may be fantastic for viewer choice but it hasn't done quality any favors.

    ReplyDelete
  91. But this Candice chick is SO ANNOYING

I mean...can she just let her anti brother bias go ? such a b -,-

    ReplyDelete
  92. I only got into Arrow this year. I admit, it was the Flash which got me to start watching. But then I found other means to catch up and watch everything from the get go. I probably would have watched it sooner, if I wasn't burned out with Smallville. There has to be a way to include people such as myself, who also watch the other stuff later, into the mix as well.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Bringing this conversation back to the point though, this is the CW. I don't expect amazing storytelling from the Arrow writers, but when certain plots have glaringly large holes in them, I start to worry. The oversimplification of Laurel's arc is one issue I have. Laurel started her recovery in Heir to the Demon and miraculously recovered from all of her addictions within a span of 2-3 weeks. Laurel blackmailed her way back into her job. She blackmailed someone in order to let her dad get out of jail. And now she's being portrayed as a good person who can help team arrow defeat the mirakuru soldiers. I feel like they're rushing her arc in order to retcon her character. I don't even know who Laurel is at this point because they keep going back and forth with her. I just don't buy it. Maybe that's why I didn't like this promo. But if Laurel's arc is any indication as to how creative the writers are, then there's a bigger issue at hand. And that's the competence of the writers to actually write a competent story for an obviously hated character.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Wait, we will find out Laurel is a Red Lensman ;) But I agree, though I like the show, in part because of many of the actors in it, I've been very frustrated with the direction the writers have brought the show this season. To me, the big example of this is how Blood became mayor -- that storyline doesn't work with any real world models. It was too quick. And if Moira's death happened so close to the election, it doesn't mean she couldn't be elected (after all, senators have been elected after they died). We had no election, just the assumption of office, all so quick. That kind of sloppy writing infects everything. Alas.

But it's not too far gone. Yet. Thank the actors.

    ReplyDelete
  95. "Laurel blackmailed her way back into her job. She blackmailed someone in
order to let her dad get out of jail. And now she's being portrayed as a
good person who can help team arrow defeat the mirakuru soldiers."

Oliver and Sara have straight-up murdered people and they're portrayed as good too. Diggle and Felicity are breaking the law all the time. So, by this show's standard, she qualifies as good.

    ReplyDelete
  96. See the thing is, is that Sara knows who she is. Oliver doesn't consider himself as a hero. Whereas Laurel (to me at least) is portrayed as self righteous and even Katie Cassidy said that she's a good-doer in her recent interview on tvline. She doesn't understand the the things she's actually doing is wrong which is the problem. Felicity always mentions how she can't believe she's doing something illegal, Digg doesn't even have enough screentime to say a word so I don't even know where he stands...

    ReplyDelete
  97. And her dad? He goes outside the law all the time. What he does by many people's standards is wrong? Is he a bad guy too? I certainly don't think so.

"Felicity always mentions how she can't believe she's doing something illegal"
Like the time she excitedly came into the foundry saying she'd being waiting for an excuse to try to break into the FBI database for a long time?

  98. The difference between these people doing something bad and Laurel doing something bad is the fact that Felicity/Digg/Sara/Oliver/Lance do it for the greater good. Laurel just does it for herself (save for the blackmailing for her father).

While Felicity/Sara/Oliver have explicitly acknowledged that they know what they're doing is illegal and wrong, Laurel hasn't. If Laurel is supposed to be BC she should at least acknowledge her wrongdoings... The writers took the easy way out with Laurel. That doesn't sit well with me.

  99. Wow how long ago did this clip pop up? B/c it was 6 hrs ago, and there's already over 100 comments? wow, that was fast guys...

Umm, weren't they standing next to each other? How did she get out but Ollie couldn't?? And how did his bow get allll they way over there when he had it in his hand?? And i guess that was a semi good plan, seeing as how there is no "super soldier" in sight. How nice.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Well, I'm expecting he put his bow down, thinking they had some time, and he went looking at something then the rocks were brought down. I'm sure we will find out.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Also I hope you don't mistaken my comments and think I will never like Laurel. While I do criticize her a lot, it just means that I want and expect better from her. I want to be on board with the Laurel train. I really do. And I will when the writers write her arcs better as well as when she extricate herself from the disgusting triangle that is Laurel/Oliver/Sara. Any woman, including Laurel deserves better than that. And I hope Laurel has enough self respect to see that and not have any romantic entanglements with Oliver in the future. It would bode well for Laurel as a character as well. It would show she doesn't take anyone's shit, and it shows that she truly is stronger than she seems and doesn't need a man to keep her relevant to the plot. If the writers are telling us that Laurel/Oliver are epic love, I don't believe that one bit.

  102. Honestly, it's okay if you end up never liking Laurel too. Indifference or dislike of one supporting character has never been a deal-breaker for me and I hope it won't be for you as well.

  103. I solely watch Arrow for Oliver/Digg/Felicity and the villains (pleease let Malcolm be next season's big baddie). Laurel can't change that one bit. I might be annoyed by her 99% of the time, but I've learned to be indifferent to her.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yeah we need to find out, b/c the rocks came down AS he was already barricaded in. Plus i don't see him putting his bow down about 15 ft away from where he was trapped. Okkk, i'm ready for the next clip. I'm hoping it's with Thea, Thea or Sin, or Diggle and Felicity.

  105. "She didn't really shoot the bow in any way which required training"

This is why I actually like it, you see. I was fearing she could shoot just like Oliver, even as we never saw her take a bow before. Like she is so perfect that can accomplish everything... But here we are seeing her doing something easy, so I'm relieved.

  106. I don't think the island will go anywhere. We're in year two, there's still three to go.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I know, but I wish they would just go, "and for the next three years, he was by himself...." more or less. Maybe a couple brief interruptions in that time

    ReplyDelete
  108. The whole point of a sneak peak is to get people excited about the episode.

  109. Incoming: It's only Olicity shippers!

As a non-Olicity shipper: Laurel is a poorly written character with little, or no, connection to what is going on in the show. When they try to get her involved it comes off feeling very forced.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I think the point is more that we've been told and shown repeatedly that shooting arrows is hard work - much harder than it looks on TV. Roy had to slap water for weeks, like Oliver, and can't hit a target WITH Mirakuru, but suddenly Laurel can? With Oliver's specially designed bow? While my hope is that this is the only way to involve Laurel in the finale, it's not gonna fly with majority of the audience that she can aim, shoot and hit a target. I can suspend belief for a LOT on on a hero show, but these are things that make you cringe because they're the easy ones that just imply we're dumb.

If this is her on her way to BC, I might have to get off the boat. Felicity makes a smarter choice at this point.

Don't get me wrong, I think that Laurel is a wasted character, mis-cast, and I hope she's on her way out, but that's not why this irks me. It's because it's lazy.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I think they intentionally barricaded themselves from the army because Laurel is a moron and got them trapped before Oliver could clear the site, which is why Dig didn't hit the button.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Couldn't agree more! And it's not that she a pile of rubble, it's that she hit where she aimed. "Nice shot" is a pretty good indicator of that.

The more you tell me she's "knocking it out of the park with the new material" the more the PR person in me knows she's really swingin' and missing and there's little left to do. It's like TV politics or something. If anything, they should be lowering our expectations so when she does something remarkable, like when she goes into Diva mode (KC's sweet spot) we'll be excited to the point we'll actually talk her up. If they don't Tommy her, I'll be disappointed for the show. Killing Laurel and having Sara find her way back would be way, way more interesting to me. I want to see her train, fight, all of that. So much more material.

I'm hoping that they use her so much in the clips because if they'd showed Felicity and Dig they'd be giving away too much.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Theoretically, but it all comes down to what we'll talk about. "That fight scene with Dig looks epic!" will not win out over the mixed-negative views of both Laurel as a character and KC as the actress portraying her.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Which they can't really help with her being basically tied to Oliver. The only reason I manage not to vomit at how forced that aspect of the last episode felt is that it hopefully means the odds of Laurel being Slade's final target are slim. Felicity on the other hand is rarely mentioned or shown in the clips - despite being a fan favourite - because they know we'll watch for her anyway. My guess is Slade or Waller grabs her when she's on her way back with, or on her way to, the cure. (I also think Waller is funding/supporting Slade)

  116. Going by some of the photos for this episode Felicity is with Diggle.

  117. No fighting skills? What show are you watching. Quentin didn't teach her the art of eating donuts. He taught her how to fight.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I am sure Laurel is one time thing.......if you want major spoiler look at the set photo it will tell you about a certain character

    ReplyDelete
  119. Good stuff. I'm excited about it. Now one less comment about how it's "Why it has to be Laurel's clip, blah blah?". Why can't Laurel's fans get a clip about Laurel?

I'm so tired of the Laurel hate (I don't care if it's Olicity shippers, Sara fans or non Olicity shippers). I couldn't care less about the ships in this show and I recognize the writers tried to improve Laurel's character this season.
The Laurel hate is becoming ridiculous. She does nothing she is useless and the worst. She does something she is a Mary Sue and she is the worst. People make up your minds.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Indeed, but at some point, she's going to have to go and get the cure. I think I just read one that confirms my theory that Waller is partly to blame for this - that he'll take her on WITH the suicide squad.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I think that you shouldn't spend that much energy hating Laurel... Just watch and enjoy the show :)

    ReplyDelete
  123. ughh, they're so precious

    ReplyDelete
  124. Nope...because the actual issue always was that it is NOT easy to shoot a bow and the show has been very consistent concerning the matter. Neither Oliver nor Roy managed to even remotely at their first try...but Laurel somehow does, even though she shouldn't even be able to draw a string which is set for Oliver's strengths.

Having tried myself - it is NOT so easy.

    ReplyDelete
  125. That's not true at all...take Grimm's Juliette for example. Deemed boring in the first season (because she was constantly sidelined from the real action), and annoying in the second (because she was stuck in an awful story-arc which had even the few fans who liked her up in arms for multiple reasons) the writers finally included her into the "fold" in the third season and since then, there have been barely any complains about her and even a lot of compliments. I wouldn't say that she is the most popular character in the show, but she isn't widely disliked either anymore, and people now actually cheer her on when she sets the main character straight.
But then, the problem with Juliette was always that the writers kept her out of the loop for too long, she herself was actually quite likable, just a little bit on the boring side.
The problem with Laurel is that more or less the only reason for her to be in the show is being Oliver's love interest. She is written not as a character, but as the girl Oliver wants for some strange reason. That alone would already be a problem, but on top of this what the writers tell us about Laurel goes totally opposite to what they show us about her.
At the end of the day, she has no function in the show. In order to give her to do something, other characters have to drop the ball, acting ooc to make room for her.
If the writers had been smart, they would have toned down her role this season, especially her interaction with Oliver. They would have concentrated on the sister relationship and perhaps had used Laurel's expertise where it fits...whenever Oliver needed help with a legal problem. Perhaps they could have allowed her to strike up a friendship with Felicity, allowing the two to investigate Blood together. Instead they first made her utterly unlikable, than gave her a rushed redemption arc and are now back to forcing the most disfunctional relationship of the show on the audience (and I say that as someone who couldn't care less whom Oliver ends up with...as long as it isn't Laurel). And now she is back running into situations which she is not equipped to deal with, which was in the first place what shifted the opinion of the audience from "she is boring" to "I can't stand her".

  126. IKR??? I ship them so hard it's unhealthy. Lol Can't wait for tonight! I'm hoping for some good scenes between them. I'm looking forward to Malcolm and Thea interaction. Diggle kicking Isabel's ass, and Slade feeling some pain. Basically everything except Laurel stuff. Lol
