My guess is Felicity is going to STAR Labs to get a Mirakuru cure, that would be a lot better than if she's kidnapped by Slade. I hope Diggle kicks some serious Rochev ass! Can't wait to see Malcom!
So happy Laurel is getting more internal to the story! I for one root for her. I actually find majority of you completely over the top & ridiculous w/ how far you go just to hate something about her.
I trust the writers & everytning about this show. It's great! Favorite show on TV by far.
What, exactly, do you enjoy about Laurel? I actually started watching Arrow because of Katie Cassidy and I liked Laurel in S1 but in S2 she has been nothing but a headache.
I def will agree that she hadn't much of a purpose in this first half of the season but now they are trying to bring her character back around. I'm glad bc like you, I enjoyed her mostly in season 1 & think she could play an important/interesting part to the show.
Also, I think that after reading so much constant hate thrown at her, I root for her moreso just to shut people up. Lol.
Idgas! This isn't season 4, she hasn't trained, and until she does i won't be excited about anything they want to do with her now. Even in this promo it seems like they went 20 giant steps ahead with just her pointing HIS arrow. That's so far down unrealistic lane even for a comic book series, and that's coming from me! (Bruce_F knows what I'm talking about).
If she gets one lucky hit fine. But it definitely shouldn't be AFTER the fact that she just told Oliver she doesn't know jack squat about anything in his cave and after they just had a pile of rocks collapse on them. Seriously they want to bring her more in the story fine, but don't let her start using Ollie's stuff, like we're suppose to get excited about it. I would've been LESS turned off by this promo if she threw a rock.
Laurel and Oliver's bow, are you for real?!?! She probably never shot a arrow before but how much do you wanna bet that she will hit the target in her first try? -.-
Someone else looked it up and the bow he uses in the show has a max 70lb draw weight which is probably what Oliver uses. The average draw weight for a woman with above-average strength is 50lbs. So, yeah, she shouldn't even be able to draw that bow.
Which wouldn't matter if they hadn't included the whole "Slap water so you can draw the bow" training segment.
MEGA FACEPALM!!! Where the hell is Oliver that she has to pick up HIS bow?? If she draws that bow then gets hit on the back of the head. Then i'll feel better about it. B/c then it'll feel like she doesn't have "spider senses" like a highly trained fighter would. (rolls eyes)
What bothers me is WHY she's picking up the bow in the first place?!?! I mean is that REALLY necessary?? That's like if Thea was there, and Ollie was off fighting Slade or Blood, then she automatically thinks, "Oh here's his bow, idk how to use it but god i hope i don't miss." (Zzzzz) Laurel should've just stuck to her self defense skills.
At least Thea has some archery experience(you can see an archery trophy in her room in the Pilot). She still wouldn't be able to get enough draw on it though.
Like I said, the problem is that they have established that Oliver had to train just to be able to draw the bow. Laurel doing it with no training just makes that all look pointless in retrospect.
Oliver was trained on a traditional single-string bow which is markedly more difficult to shoot.
Anyway, characters do things that aren't actually probable or possible all the time on Arrow and no one says a peep about it (except maybe nitpicky me) but when it's Laurel there seems to be a completely different standard applied.
Yes, because it's completely unearned at this point.
Oliver spent years learning how to shoot; Slade was a trained SAS member even before the mirakuru; Sara was not only on the island learning survival skills, she was trained by the LoA; Diggle is a former soldier and bodyguard; Roy was injected with mirakuru and then trained by Oliver; and even Felicity has been seen training.
Laurel hasn't the physique for it and she hasn't had any training. But suddenly she's leapfrogged over Felicity and Roy and maybe Diggle, and now she's shooting with a bow just like Oliver. Just like she hasn't earned her "person who understands Oliver the best" credential because she's been clueless for 7 years while he lied to her about just about everything.
If the show wanted me to hate Laurel, they couldn't have done a better job of setting it up.
Just like Oliver? Wow, you divined that all from Laurel drawing a bow once and shooting it? Where's the outrage when someone from the League of Assassins catches an arrow without looking or when Slade can catch a leaping Sara by the neck one-handed without budging in defiance of simple physics?
Characters do things they shouldn't actually be able to do all the time on Arrow and no one so much as says 'boo' about it. Somehow though, when Laurel is involved it becomes an affront to all that is good and pure in the world. Classic double standard.
"If the show wanted me to hate Laurel, they couldn't have done a better job of setting it up." You seem to be well on your way already without any assistance.
"B/c then it'll feel like she doesn't have "spider senses" like a highly trained fighter would. (rolls eyes)"
If memory serves, you're the one that complained to me when I pointed out some things that Slade shouldn't be able to do. Why is it okay for him and not Laurel?
In the extended promo, Oliver tells her "good shot" so she makes the shot, apparently without any practice or arm strength.
It breaks the show's universe. It took Oliver months of practice to be able to draw a bow and years to be able to shoot accurately. Roy, with all his mirakuru'ed strength couldn't shoot accurately either. But Laurel, with no practice and no strength, just picks up a bow and nails the shot.
TV shows, like books and movies, are an agreement between the people producing them and those watching it that they will adhere to the rules, not matter how impossible the rules may be (like catching a shot arrow or superstrength). To have Laurel suddenly be an archer is cheating on what they've been asking us to believe, just like having her be the one to understand Oliver when they've spend 45 episodes showing us she hasn't a clue how he works.
Once a show goes down that path, it loses something it can't get back.
1. It's a promo. There's no context and it's heavily edited. 2. We don't know what she's shooting at.
If, in fact, Laurel does hit some Olympian-level trick shot then I'll be sure to add that to my list of Arrow reality grievances. Until then, there's nothing to complain about.
Again, i say Slade is trained killer with much more skill than Laurel AND he's drugged up with mirakuru. Not to mention he's like a 7ft. tall 245lb man made of muscle. He also has heightened senses! I mean the man can smell TNT for crying out loud! Laurel is a regular citizen with very minimal fighting skills. I don't see her shooting Ollie's arrow then quickly spinning around to dodge some attack like she knew it was coming within 2 seconds. Especially when she just finished telling Ollie what she told him tonight.
So many hate for Laurel. I'm beginning think that you guys just hate Laurel because you like your felicity to end up with oliver. Even if the character is redeeming herself you still can dig a hole and find mistakes in her actions. If she does bad you guys react so intensely that you could just kill the actress playing her, Katie Cassidy. Then if she does something good you say 'it's not enough' and condemn her still. It's like damn if you do damn if you don't. Cut her some slack guys and try to see both sides and not just the side you like to hate.
Slade's training does not negate the laws of physics. He shouldn't have been able to do what he did no matter how strong or how much training he has had.
Oh come on! Cut her some slacks. I'm not a huge fan of her but I jst can't understand why you guys hate her so much. I think 'somebody other than arrow used the arrow' is not the issue here. I am sure if felicity was the one who used it you will all be gushing.
Umm, a lot of professional assassins/martial arts can actually "negate the laws of physics", so i actually don't see a problem with it. Him holding Sara by her neck or Ollie by his foot is NOT as ridiculous as what Laurel may or may not be doing. When she's strung up on a powerful drug and actually gets more training than her self defense classes, THEN only will i find it tolerable.
My dislike for Laurel has nothing to do with Felicity whatsoever. And IF Felicity were to pick up the bow, i'd tell her to PUT IT DOWN! I have cut Laurel slack for TWO YEARS!! Which is wayyy passed my limit for a character. I TRIED to like her in season 1 and it didn't happen. I waited til half of season 2 to see if that would change and it didn't. Hell i cut her a lot of slack this season...BY NOT COMMENTING ON HER. Just b/c i really had nothing to say about her. And that was me being nice. I didn't mind her when she was trying to uncover Blood. That i gave her props for. And i think there was something else i said she was "ok" for after that. But that still didn't make me warm up to her. It's the end of season 2, i've pretty much reached my peak with her.
It is when Laurel just finished saying she knows nothing about his specific weaponry. Especially if that would be the last thing on her mind to use. Give her something she's used before, gun, staff, hell even a sword. But iI just can't see her picking up that bow with all her might and hitting her target "bullseye" in 2 seconds flat. Doesn't work for me. And that's that. I'm just gonna chuck it up to luck.
Well she's not getting killed this season so I have to deal. I wanted them to write her better and they haven't. For me the more they try the more they screw it up. That's just me, I can't/won't speak for anyone else. When she does something worth mentioning i'll give her praise for it. She hasn't. Not for me. iI think the only thing i've ever really didn't mind about her was her scenes with Quentin. (But that's mostly b/c I love Quentin) iI find those to be nice moments. But that's it.
Here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0tkXe-mIeg i think she uses one of the bomb arrows and destroy a wall to make an exit? i dont think she could actually shot someone at least is really near her....
Is this a Canadian promo? I didn't look at it, b/c I don't like Canadian promos, they show too much. But honestly I was just thinking, I wonder WHAT she's shooting at. I wasn't thinking it was a person at all. And I was actually thinking w/e she's shooting at needs to be about 7 Feet away from her. (Ok 5 feet) b/c if it's any further than that. I'll have to scratch my eyeballs out. Lol
it is the extended promo, funny i tend to like the canadians promos better.... i think she shoots at a wall lets pray is that or someone that is really really close to them and Oliver cant reach his bow
I love it when shows go all apocalyptic chaos. So exiting. As for all the hoopla about Laurel and the Arrow's bow (and her aim), it's typical but come on, there's less than 5 seconds of footage to go on here. At least wait until the episode airs to judge. Sheesh.
I think you need to rewatch some episodes in season 1, since you are saying that Laurel had no training... Unless if she shoots a guy in the eye 45 feet away…then i'll be nit picky. In 6th grade, the first time I pick up a bow and arrow in gym class, I shot it directly in the center of the target. I was obviously feeling superior to my fellow classmates. But, I found it rather hard to continue to get it at the bullseye after that. The point is, people can do things in the spur of the moment and just get "lucky".
I think it's more about the character for people than being able to draw a bow, whether they're willing to admit it or not. You're right. She's not catching an arrow or connecting with a flying roundhouse kick to someone's jaw. She's just drawing a bow and that's far from an unfathomable first-time accomplishment.
Yes! Been dying to see Malcolm. Love how badass Ravager looks :P Also, WTF is going on with Laurel? Somebody given her Mirakuru or what? She shouldn't even be able to pull the string, much less aim the damn arrow. Writers, stop pushing her at us already.
Lets just leave it all to the writers. After all they are the writers. Maybe right now all of this doesn't make sense but eventually it'll so we just have to wait. Lets just let them do their job they know better and they know what's gonna happen next. Just saying.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
MALCOLM
ReplyDeletethat's all I have to say
My guess is Felicity is going to STAR Labs to get a Mirakuru cure, that would be a lot better than if she's kidnapped by Slade. I hope Diggle kicks some serious Rochev ass! Can't wait to see Malcom!
ReplyDeleteMalcolm is a reason for me to watch. Seeing Laurel take such a big part in it is a reason not to.
ReplyDeleteI am so ready for the return of Malcolm. Let's do this!
ReplyDeleteMalcolm!! Damn!!! I'm ready for that. Really not feeling Laurel taking aim with Ollie's Arrow. Please don't touch his Quiver.
ReplyDeleteSo happy Laurel is getting more internal to the story! I for one root for her. I actually find majority of you completely over the top & ridiculous w/ how far you go just to hate something about her.
ReplyDeleteI trust the writers & everytning about this show. It's great! Favorite show on TV by far.
Isn't the draw weight on that bow really, really high? I guess Laurel has been slapping water in her spare time. Just for funsies.
ReplyDeleteis MAlcom on team arrow side?
ReplyDeleteMalcolm go save your daughter! GO GO GO!
ReplyDeleteWhat, exactly, do you enjoy about Laurel? I actually started watching Arrow because of Katie Cassidy and I liked Laurel in S1 but in S2 she has been nothing but a headache.
ReplyDeleteOh god, hopefully! I would love to see a Malcolm vs. Slade showdown.
ReplyDeleteOmg, that would be so F**king sweet!!
ReplyDeleteI def will agree that she hadn't much of a purpose in this first half of the season but now they are trying to bring her character back around. I'm glad bc like you, I enjoyed her mostly in season 1 & think she could play an important/interesting part to the show.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that after reading so much constant hate thrown at her, I root for her moreso just to shut people up. Lol.
I would probably faint from all of the epicness XD
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA you just made my night. Hilarious comment.
ReplyDeleteI mean... it's cheesy, but she is the proper Canary and will become a better fighter than Oliver himself. Maybe a "tease" of what's to come.
ReplyDeleteI am guessing Malcolm is talking to Ollie when he said the city has fallen
ReplyDeleteJust leave a space on the floor for me. = P
ReplyDeleteIdgas! This isn't season 4, she hasn't trained, and until she does i won't be excited about anything they want to do with her now. I see slade vs Malcom and Ollie together shooting arrows at him
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me, they gave Laurel his bow?!?!?! That is wrong on so many levels!!!!
ReplyDeleteLaurel and Oliver's bow, are you for real?!?! She probably never shot a arrow before but how much do you wanna bet that she will hit the target in her first try? -.-
ReplyDeleteit doesn't matter she already use a gun before and shot perfectly....
ReplyDeleteEhhhh, idk about that. Lol but we'll see.
ReplyDelete...*bangs head against table* I swear the arrow writers are testing me lately 😩
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side, yay! Malcolm!! ^_^
i thought merlyn returned in the season finale hmm
ReplyDeleteSomeone else looked it up and the bow he uses in the show has a max 70lb draw weight which is probably what Oliver uses. The average draw weight for a woman with above-average strength is 50lbs. So, yeah, she shouldn't even be able to draw that bow.

People routinely catch arrows on this show and you're giving Laurel crap for drawing one?
ReplyDeleteAt least Thea has some archery experience(you can see an archery trophy in her room in the Pilot). She still wouldn't be able to get enough draw on it though.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, the problem is that they have established that Oliver had to train just to be able to draw the bow. Laurel doing it with no training just makes that all look pointless in retrospect.

ReplyDeleteI've seen it.
ReplyDeleteA gun and a bow are completely different. A bow requires a lot more skill to use... Just sayin'
ReplyDeleteIt is when Laurel just finished saying she knows nothing about his specific weaponry. Especially if that would be the last thing on her mind to use. Give her something she's used before, gun, staff, hell even a sword. But iI just can't see her picking up that bow with all her might and hitting her target "bullseye" in 2 seconds flat. ReplyDeleteWell I guess it's time to tell the writers to just kill her already. Maybe if she'll be killed you can like her already...kidding!
ReplyDelete"I'm just gonna chuck it up to luck."
ReplyDeleteThat would be a very logical assumption and one I'd be inclined to make as well.
Well she's not getting killed this season so I have to deal. I wanted them to write her better and they haven't. For me the more they try the more they screw it up. ReplyDeleteOh ok. Thank you but I saw that already. It's posted here. I feel like Ollie could be talking to Malcolm as she's shooting in that moment. Idk.
ReplyDeleteI love it when shows go all apocalyptic chaos. So exiting. As for all the hoopla about Laurel and the Arrow's bow (and her aim), it's typical but come on, there's less than 5 seconds of footage to go on here. At least wait until the episode airs to judge. Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for next week:) Malcolm back and yes (as I think they said at the end) Wgere is felicity??!!
ReplyDeleteI think you need to rewatch some episodes in season 1, since you are saying that Laurel had no training... She didn't had the same training as the others, but her father taught her quite a few things, like fighting and at least shooting. She even "saved" Oliver and Tommy in season 1 by beating some thugs up.
ReplyDeleteShe will become a better fighter than Oliver? That's laughable she can't even take on common thugs so I highly doubt that will happen. I will never think of Laurel as the Canary that's all Sarah.
ReplyDeletesince laurels all "team arrow" now i guess my hope for olicity is crashing
ReplyDeleteShe said that her father the detective taught her some moves, and she saves Tommy and Oliver when Oliver is faking that he can't fight.
ReplyDeleteBut she's not at Sara of Diggle or even Roy level.
It's not Katie Cassidy, it's the really bad writing that alternates between showing that she doesn't understand Sara or Oliver or Quentin or Dinah, and then making her the most important person in Oliver's life.
ReplyDeleteIf Sara gets killed off so that Laurel can become the Black Canary, there will be a huge backlash.
"she can't even take on common thugs"
ReplyDeleteShe already did, check season 1.
Of course she isn't. One was in the military, one was trained by League of Assassins and the other was injected with Mirakuru. But that is the thing, she does have some training, I don't know why the show forgets that now and makes her look like a damsel in distress sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI don't see what the big deal is about Laurel using a bow. Sure she hasn't had training…but that doesn't mean she can't use it at all.
ReplyDeleteI think it's more about the character for people than being able to draw a bow, whether they're willing to admit it or not. You're right. She's not catching an arrow or connecting with a flying roundhouse kick to someone's jaw. She's just drawing a bow and that's far from an unfathomable first-time accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteYes! Been dying to see Malcolm. Love how badass Ravager looks :P Also, WTF is going on with Laurel? Somebody given her Mirakuru or what? She shouldn't even be able to pull the string, much less aim the damn arrow. Writers, stop pushing her at us already.
