  1. Sounds cool! I will definitely check it out, and I'm surprised, I had no idea that Amy Poehler was involved in another series!

  2. I have seen the first five episodes, and it's REALLY good. It's funny, heart-felt and it has this Western Europe movie feeling to it.

  6. 6 of the episodes have already aired in Sweden, therefore they're online :) and English subtitles for the Swedish speaking parts are available too.

  10. You'll find lots of similar sounding words shared between German and Swedish but you won't be able to understand what is being said really without learning the language, I don't think. Swedish and Norwegian on the other hand are very similar, if you know one you'll have a good chance of being able to communicate using the other, even if there will be some words you don't get or some small confusions. Danish is also very similar to Norwegian in written form, but sounds very different spoken!

  12. I find Danish such a curious one, how the written form can be so similar and yet the spoken form sound so different! They seem to me to be mumbling and leaving whole consonants out, very interesting. They had a Danish character in Varg Veum once and now I can't remember if he spoke Danish or Norwegian with a Danish accent, must go watch again...! He certainly sounded quite different and I struggled to get the words without subtitles I seem to remember.

This reminds me of the modern remake of The Thing, where I think they have a Swedish character and a Norwegian character and they were having a conversation both speaking only their own language.

  14. Ha, this conversation is so much fun!
I´m Danish and have no problem understanding Norwegian, but find Swedish is bit more difficult. Went to Sweden last year and after a few days it got a bit easier.

I find the Norwegian language beautiful, love it.

  16. Gosh. I've been studying Swedish for six years (with great grades even!) and I can't understand a word of what the old man says. I hate Swedish pronunciation!

Anyway, the series looks fine (love the guest stars), but... I just have an inherent dislike of all things Swedish... I'm so sorry, Swedes, it's not your fault. You're all lovely people! Hearing your language just makes me realize how much time I've wasted on studying it! :)
