The Walking Dead - Spinoff: Different characters in another part of the world

Thanks to Wolf for the heads up!
There’s been very little information released about the new Walking Dead spin-off TV series that is in the works at AMC. According to a previous report on ComicBook.com, Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman did reveal that the spin-off series would follow “another group of characters, surviving in another part of the world.”
Kirkman also revealed that The Walking Dead spin-off TV series would not “use any of the core cast from” the current show.

  1. I should really read the Comics, they seem really cool :)

  2. Australia, UK or somewhere in Europe would be cool if they could get over the language issue. South America may work out well too.

  3. I bet they said "another part of the world" meaning like the US west coast, haha, like LA, making it a lot cheaper!

  4. I think it sounds like a great idea!

Having no comic book source for the new series to adhere to gives the writers/ showrunners complete flexibility to go wherever they want.

  5. Canada lol. The walkers will bite you and then they'll apologize for biting you then you can get treated for free.

  6. ZOMBIES PLEASE COME TO BRAZIL

  7. It's a double-edged sword. No source material equals complete freedom but it also means working without a net. The TWD writers have the advantage of working from a playbook with characters and plot developments that are already accepted, enjoyed, and anticipated by fans. The new show will have to create everything from scratch and anything that feels repetitive or derivative of the original will be highly (and probably overly) scrutinized by very vocal viewers.

  8. Yeah the UK would be pretty awesome because that would also put the characters on an island.

  9. I'd like to see the military and scientists, working on the problem, while struggling to survive of course. The could do flashbacks, to the beginning or before. They have to be careful though, the flashbacks have to be relevant to the current episode. Lost & Highlander did this well, Once Upon A Time not so much.

  10. That is true...
I just so rarely consider what the vocal viewers will want since I do not care whatsoever! xD

I think too many viewers feel entitled and the shows should be about what the showrunners/ writers want them to be about. Nothing more.

    That said...
I do agree having good source material does make some things easier.

  11. Generally speaking, I don't care what a vocal fandom wants to shout about either. That being said, these days I am a little concerned about creators being too influenced by social media. That's why I brought up the difference between having source material and not. Without a playbook to work from, I fear that some creators may be more susceptible to public opinion to guide their show.

  12. EEK!

I had not thought about it from THAT direction... That is a concern of mine for man shows sadly.

I would think ( and hope) a cable series is far less likely to fall into that trap since many series film large portions of the season or their entire season prior to airing.

I guess they still could be influenced by social media in the off-season though...

  13. Same difference. Why not concentrate the creative energy on TWD?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I really wish they would have considered having a few TWD characters move over to the spinoff, instead of killing them off. What about Tara, or Sasha, or Bob?

Or bring back Morales and his family.

  15. there is a lot they can do! this sounds interesting

  16. I hope that "another" part of the world doesn't mean elsewhere in the US or Canada. I hope they go to a different continent.

  17. Great!! I would love this to be from the very start out the outbreak or at the very least have some kind of flashback (lost style) I love TWDs format and season layout but its getting a very tiny bit boring predicting who is going to die.. Death does not equal shock or interest for me and I hope the spin off has a core group with minimul death.

  18. Good, I'm getting sick of Georgia :P

nah but I'd love to see a group of survivors tackle icey mountains, cold, snow and hunger with walkers being a secondary threat.

Nature+undead vs. humans should be the mantra

  19. ATL and LA are both rather cheap locations to shoot at.

Personally I'd love them to go to some REALLY cold place...or Nevada, I'd dig a show set in the mojave

  20. Why the hell would people watch The Walking Dead 2 when The Walking Dead 1 is still running? Sounds kinda lame, and like it would be the same show with a different cast, so what's the point? Unless they manage to make this show have a completely unique perspective on the situation I hope AMC passes on this.

  21. It would be cool to shoot in a cold place, and I don't know if you remember, because I don't, if the show talks about the way zombies react to cold?!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't remember them saying anything about that

  23. This series is said to be a take on the book series "Gods, Guns & Butterflies," for which the producers are being sued for intellectual property laws. The books are better.

  24. UK UK UK UK UK UK UK UK !!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. why would people watch NCIS: LA when NCIS is still running? Why would people watch CSI: Miami and CSI: NY if CSI was still running?

    ReplyDelete
  26. well if it were in Australia or the UK there would be no language issue

    ReplyDelete
  27. Exactly.

Another show set in the US may be fairly similar, but if they set in the mountains or the desert it changes everything basically. The survivors instantly have different concerns and survival techniques.

Set it in a South American or European setting and it brings unique influences to the new series - Climate, terrain, cultural etc.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Do it in Australia. Either the zombies kill you or the nature will.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Something far removed from the US might be good or something with really harsh elements maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Most shows tell the same stories - they have love triangles, sickness, death, turmoil. Think of all the hospital and cop dramas out there - they are mostly similar. What makes each individually appealing is the cast.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I hope this will be exciting

    ReplyDelete
  32. I hope they choose a setting that is in terms of geography and weather, the complete opposite of what we've seen in the original show. A really cold mountainous region, perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  33. That would be awesome if it was in las vegas.

They haven't brought it up on the show yet but it has been addressed in the comics & I very much doubt it will be set in a cold environment.

  35. Big city > Trees and open fields (TWD)
It would be cool if the show was set in a big city! It was awesome in the first season of TWD when they were in Atlanta for a little bit, it was (a lot) more dangerous and there were more zombies!

  36. I got an unintentional chuckle out of this. You mentioned a cold mountainous region and it reminded me of a film called Dead Snow. It's a Norwegian horror film about frozen Nazi zombies in the snow-covered mountain wilderness. It's pretty amusing.

  38. THINK YOU KNOW POE?April 21, 2014 at 3:00 AM

In the comic books they talk about a walker frozen partially in the snow. they don't think of it as a threat, but they almost step on it (if i recall correctly).

    ReplyDelete
  39. I wasn't sure before, but thinking on it, as a book reader, this might
be a little more "fun" for me to watch as a viewer. So many big plot
twists this season shocked so many but not me, and I felt robbed of
something in that regard. If I get to see new people, in a new setting
and new situations, yeah, that'd be a bit more "fun" for me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. THAT MOVIE IS AWESOME. Watched it on NetFlix streaming about a year ago.

    ReplyDelete
  41. In the comics, the zombies are less of a threat during winter because they're basically frozen, since they've no blood flowing to prevent that. Winter is more about finding food, good shelter, and warm clothes.

    ReplyDelete
  42. IMO, Even worse.
Whats the point of this... Are they gonna eventually join together and in the long run help each other survive? Probably Not...
Basically they just want to try at more you know, $.
I'm not that far in the comics yet only read a couple of issues so far, but do they ever shift focus from main group to a different part of the world to a new group of protagonist cast?

Same thing with new Supernatural Spin-off, what can the new cast do the current can't. Where has the new cast and new monsters been this whole time, in a protect force field away from Sam and Dean's hunting sights?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think it will be set in Canada

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ah man, I'd love for it to be set in the UK! Get a different perspective on things. And it also depends on whether they're filming the series DURING the breakout, or after - like the current show. I don't understand why people are complaining, I'm loving them have a spin off, it allows us to see different aspects of the apocalypse and meet new characters (who I will probably love, and then they'll be killed off :l ).
