A&E NETWORK GREENLIGHTS NEW SCRIPTED DRAMA SERIES ‘THE RETURNED’ FROM A+E STUDIOS AND FREMANTLEMEDIA NORTH AMERICA
10 EPISODE SEASON TO GO INTO PRODUCTION THIS SUMMER FROM EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS CARLTON CUSE AND RAELLE TUCKER
New York, NY—April 29, 2014—A&E Network has given the greenlight to ten episodes of the new original scripted drama series “The Returned,” a co-production of A+E Studios and FremantleMedia North America. Carlton Cuse (“Bates Motel”) wrote the first episode, and he and Raelle Tucker (“True Blood”) will write and executive produce the series. Casting will begin immediately. The announcement was made today by David McKillop, General Manager and Executive Vice President of A&E Network.
“The Returned” is based on the popular and International Emmy®-award winning French suspense series adapted by Fabrice Gobert and inspired by the feature film, Les Revenants, directed by Robin Campillo. “The Returned” focuses on a small town that is turned upside down when several local people, who have been long presumed dead suddenly reappear, bringing with them both positive and detrimental consequences. As families are reunited, the lives of those who were left behind are challenged on a physical and emotional level. Interpersonal relationships are examined with intrigue and depth as strange phenomena begin to occur.
“’The Returned’ has the potential to be one of the most compelling drama series on cable, thanks to phenomenal scripts written by Carlton and Raelle,” said McKillop. “We look forward to seeing their vision brought to life on screen.”
Commented Thom Beers, CEO, FremantleMedia North America, “‘Les Revenants’ has proven to be both a critical and commercial success worldwide and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with A&E on this adaptation. Carlton and Raelle, the creative forces behind such fantastic television as ‘Lost’ and ‘True Blood,’ are the perfect combination to bring this complicated and provocative family drama to US audiences.”
“The Returned” is co-produced by A+E Studios and FremantleMedia North America in association with Haut et Court TV SAS, the producer of the French series, for A&E Network. Executive producers are Carlton Cuse for Carlton Cuse Productions, Raelle Tucker for Angry Annie Productions and Thom Beers, Craig Cegielski and Stefanie Berk for FremantleMedia North America. Fremantle Media will distribute the series internationally, excluding the U.S. and Canada, which will be distributed by A+E Studios.

no, no, no!!! This is totally unnecessary!
ReplyDeleteIs Ressurection not basically the American version of The Returned? There doesn't seem to be any reason we need 2 American versions of the same show!!
ReplyDeleteResurrection is based on the novel.
ReplyDeleteI hope that this is as good Les Revenants....
ReplyDeleteThere's no way this will be as good as Les Revenants....
ReplyDeleteAnother one?
ReplyDeleteOh gawd...
Indeed that show is amazing
ReplyDeleteJust watch Les Revenants or the excellent In the Flesh instead if you want well written heartfelt zombie dramas.
ReplyDeleteTBH, Les Revenants didn't work me. I was too distracted reading the subtitles that I didn't get to pay attention to the show.
ReplyDelete" the new original scripted drama series “The Returned,”
ReplyDeleteYeah, about that....not so original anymore....
The returned french tv series was based on a movie in 2004. And Resurrection was based on a book called The returned published in 2013. You can nitpick all you want, but they all have the EXACT same log line and premise The Returned/Resurection and The Returned/The returned may claim to have no affiliation but seems to me each one is a rip off of another with no attempt to put a unique spin on it. I am surprised no one has been sued.
ReplyDeleteResurrection feels nothing like The Returned though, similar basic plot and beyond that everything is different enough that people could shut up about it.
ReplyDeleteMeh, hopefully it's quite different. I'm much more interested in Babylon Fields, I hope that gets a pickup.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is: Les Revenants seems to be as good as cancelled. A second season was announced, but there's not a single thing being done right now.
ReplyDeleteWell, that wasn't necessary since there's this already : http://www.amazon.com/The-Returned-Anne-Consigny/dp/B00GAZ1H1U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1398797887&sr=8-2 That really covers the subject.
ReplyDeleteBtw, season 2 of Les revenants... has not started filming yet because they want to complete the writing of all eight episodes first and it's not completely done yet. So sadly it looks like Les revenants saison 2 won't air until 2015. But Mogwai recently agreed to come back and score those eight new episodes, that's nice.
I will try it, because it's bound to be slightly different at least (it'll have a 10-episode season while season 1 of Les revenants had 8 eps), but surely there were more original projects to choose from.
Plus Cuse already has The Strain coming soon on FX (I think he handed the showrunner keys to someone else on Bates Motel), he should focus on that.
How many series can Carlton Cuse take?
ReplyDeleteOdds are it will feel exactly like Resurection once and American network gets it's hands on it.
ReplyDeleteI am not keen on an American remake of Les Revenants, but considering
ReplyDeletethe people who watch Resurrection that think that is a remake of that
show, I am warming up to the idea of an American remake.
damn... The Returned (France vs) is still on my watch list and now this? btw I haven't started The Returned yet, and going to no matter what, last I recalled the language was French and English sub am I right?
ReplyDeletePlease, don't. I love Carlton, but we already have "Resurrection".
ReplyDeletesorry to say but the description sounds excactly like that of the Resurrection (which is a very good show). Doesn't mean they can have a totally different story line!
ReplyDeleteDisagree. Carlton Cuse has done wonders for Bates Motel (not exactly the same as Psycho film or book, or other failed TV series, but his expansion/take is VERY good IMO). I think Resurrection will feel like a cheap and more soapy imitation compared to this.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually happy about this, because I think his version will surely be better than Resurrection. Haven't seen the French series yet, but from what I can tell, I think Cuse will make a decant American adaptation that is probably much closer to the source material. With Lost and Bates Motel to his name, I have little doubt that he knows how to generate suspense, but also create very good drama out of odd circumstances.
