I kinda like this version of Elijah's "If I want something I'll take it" more than the one in the sneak peak. Don't get me wrong the menacing tone of the other one is great. But that feeling of being fed up from always doing the right thing, the resolution that this time for a change he will do right by himself, that he will think of himself first, that childlike tone of "you'll see" stubbornness... There's something about it, that in the context of the moment is very fitting.
I also believe this version would register more to Klaus. He's seen Elijah angry before. But selfish? That would be totally new.
But that could be anyone heart though. I think the promo is for more than just 1x18. In 1x19 there was an explosion in the bayou and it sounded like Elijah may have killed the parties responsible since they endangered Hayley's life by setting off a bomb where she was.
"He's fed up with always sacrificing his wants and needs in a fruitless effort to support a brother who never ever appreciates him. To me, he's not being selfish. He's just finally stopped neglecting his own well-being. It's long overdue." - *nods* Agreed!! In reality that is exactly the case. I just think it's something that Klaus would translate into "selfish". In his eyes, if his siblings aren't fawning over him or cowering in his presence or bending to his every whimsy they are being selfish and don't care about him. It's the way it goes.
" I thought it was hilarious that Elijah stole that "if I want something I will take it" line from a conversation he had with Hayley earlier in the season."
- Hilarious isn't the word I'd chose. Then again I'm quite the Hayley/Elijah shipper so I'm just super giddy over the parallel.
Did Elijah and Klaus ever see each other between 1919 and the end of Season 2 of TVD? I got the impression that they hadn't really seen each other in years or kept in touch at all. I did like that in 1x16 Elijah acknowledged that Rebekah was the family member Klaus had actually spent the most time with and been the closest to (because that was what we saw on TVD). I always got the impression that Elijah & Kol would sometimes be with Klaus but that they went off and lived their own live a lot and were separated and probably went decades without seeing each other.
Elijah's attempt to "redeem" Klaus seems to be a recent development from my perspective. In Season 3 of TVD he was ready to just leave (and he did - he left Mystic Falls and came back in 4x18 so he'd be around for the backdoor pilot in 4x20). I think what happened was when Sophie informed him that Klaus had knocked up Hayley he suddenly decided that he needed to fix Klaus for the sake of the baby and then saw Hayley as some poor innocent woman (he wasn't around for her betraying the hybrids, making deals with Katherine so I don't think Elijah is at all aware of how manipulative Hayley can be and that she knew exactly who Klaus was when she slept with him) that he had to protect because his brother had gotten her pregnant.
Kol and Finn were both daggered for a long, indeterminate amount of time (likely much longer than Rebekah) so I doubt they spent much time out and about at all.
When Elijah first appeared on TVD, it seemed as though he was searching for Klaus. Elijah left in season 4 because he was ashamed of his actions as was covered in the letter he left Elena. It wasn't because he gave up. It was more of a soul-searching thing.
As far as recent baby/Hayley related events go, no offense intended, but I don't lend much credence to that theory because I'm familiar with your feelings about Hayley, the baby, and Elijah's involvement with both.
Elijah's goal was to stop Klaus, from what I remember, and only agreed to help kill him later on.
Esther's opinions are to be taken with a grain of salt. Anyone who sustains their own life for the singular goal of complete and total familicide obviously has some serious issues.
No he planned to kill him from the beginning. His proposal to Elena was that he wanted to lure Klaus out (using her) and would keep her friends safe if she agreed to let Klaus sacrifice her and then he would kill Klaus. He changed his mind at the last minute when he and Klaus actually came face to face.
I think Elijah is just as bad as the rest of the vampires. The most moral of the family was probably Finn who at some point grew a conscious and wanted to stop turning and killing people.
All of that may be true but I sure as hell wouldn't take Esther's word for it. She's the psycho who diligently worked to turn Alaric into a serial killer every time he died with his Gilbert ring on. She's not a moral authority on anything.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
looks so good, so excited :)
ReplyDeleteRIP Thierry :(
ReplyDeleteWoo can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI don't see Josh at all though :(
Based on twitter he's in at least 1 more episode this season ( probably 1.21 )
Poor Camille. They do an extended promoting the final run of the season and she doesn't even appear.
ReplyDeleteHe's standing next to Marcel and Diego apparently burning Thierry
ReplyDeleteAh! I see him!
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
Thank God.. I don't like Cami
ReplyDeleteI see a burning... SOMEBODY.. but not Thierry
ReplyDeleteThank god she's not in the promo? Okay. Well she's still in the show so I don't know what you're so thankful for.
ReplyDeletebut they put a cap looking similar to Thierrys signature cap on the body, looking at it closer it doesen't exactly look like his.
ReplyDeleteBoy, my inner Thierry fanboy almost had a heart attack O_O
I don't like the character, yep.. so I'm glad she doesn't appear in the promo :)
ReplyDeleteSo unfathomable to me that something this great is from the people who ruined everything good about The Vampire Diaries. lol
ReplyDeleteI think Elijah is more likely... there is that heart he's holding on the 00:28 mark...

ReplyDeleteI think it's the same scene/sequence as when he puts Marcel against the wall. And for some reason I doubt it's Marcel's heart he's ripping out.
ReplyDeleteWho else would be around in that moment? Thiery is the best bet, especially if he was the one who was directly responsible for the explosion...

After parroting that line, you can't say that Hayley hasn't had a significant influence on him. That's for sure.

Oops, looks like Genevieve is gonna die after telling Klaus he should be afraid of her. May she rest in pieces. :p
ReplyDeleteFine by me. I think she's spent as much time pretending to be Klaus' personal courtesan as she has doing witch stuff.

She's in the description for 1x20 and she was filming 1x21 recently so I think she'll probably at least make it to the finale.
