The funny thing about Marcel is: the character was great when he was introduced but turned unenjoyble the moment they turned him into a goody two shoes. Charles did a GREAT job playing evil but does a piss poor job at a good guy.
At this point I'm enjoying Thierry A LOT more than him...
I think Marcel had potential and I liked him more in the beginning but now I don't understand why he's even still alive. The romance with Rebekah did nothing but ruin both of their characters (Marcel always choosing everything else ahead of her and Rebekah being dumb enough to fall for it over and over again). It seemed like the writers wanted to make it some epic romance - but that was never believable to me because I never for one moment actually believed that Marcel really loved her and I always believed that he was using her and knew that if he told her what she wanted to hear she'd give up everything and betray her brothers for a chance at love (which is consistent with Rebekah's character - but I really wanted to see some character development and have her learn from it so she'd stop allowing herself to be used).
Also building up Marcel to be someone who was all about loyalty (he punished people who betrayed him - like imprisoning Thierry (and numerous others) in the garden) only to have it revealed that he betrayed Klaus (after being his best friend for 100 years) because he got power-hungry and wanted to be King of the City makes him a huge hypocrite and I keep waiting for someone to call him out on it. Also judging from the flashbacks NOLA was actually pretty peaceful in 1919 when Klaus was in charge - Marcel totally destroyed the peace that was there by running the werewolves out town (and having them cursed) and more recently executing any witch who magic without his permission. I could see some of the vampires allying with Marcel because they hate werewolves and want to vampires to regain complete control of the city - but I see no reason why anyone else would.
Marcel may somewhat care about Davina (that's his only redeeming quality to me) but I really think the only thing Marcel loves is power. He could have run away with Rebekah and taken a shot at living a life with her - but he turned her down numerous times because all he really cares about is being King of the City (which just proved to me that all the things he told her about how he wanted a life with her were BS).

That's basically everything right there. He cares about Davina, he cared about Rebekah, but not as much as he cares about being in charge.
Yeah, but now that Klaus knows Marcel betrayed him and conspired to bring Mikael to town to kill him I don't think Klaus would really be broken up about Marcel's death. Rebekah mentioned to Marcel that if Klaus found out about how they conspired to bring Mikael to town that Klaus would hate him forever - and I think she was probably right. Klaus may have cared about Marcel and overlooked Marcel trying to bury him alive earlier this season but I don't think he'd get over Marcel conspiring with Mikael to murder him.
I also don't think Klaus will likely forgive Marcel but I'm not 100% sure he'd be okay with his death either. Anyway, the bottom line here is that The Originals needs to come up with a good way to explain this because with each passing episode it makes less and less sense that Marcel is allowed to live.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Aww. Why so glum, chum? Did some immortal vampires take your city away?

ReplyDeleteI think that's a better picture, when they don't show his face. = / And i actually mean that. I'm not being sarcastic this time.
