This will be the last update to this thread before the show starts on Friday. It's been great meeting and chatting to you all here and across social media over the filming hiatus, it's really helped with the wait for Season 2. I hope that you all enjoy the show, and here's hoping that it will be back for a third season next year.
I will be doing previews for the episodes, in case you have missed it the first one for Keep Your Friends Close can be found by clicking here. There are also posts for each episode with the Press Release information, photos and videos in as they are released by the BBC. You can find each of them by clicking The Musketeers tag under any post, or alternatively you may want to bookmark this link here.
I'd like to wish you all a Happy New Year, and will see you all in the comments and on Twitter or in our Google Community.
Lastly, here is a round up of all the photos collected in the comments here since the previous update. They include the Paris promotional trip the cast & crew went on, Jessica's updates and the usual Instgram pictures.

[UPDATE 2]
I'm adding this update as it's quite an important one! BBC America have announced that they will airing S2 in January after all :)
The Musketeers premieres Saturday, January 17 at 9:00pm ET on BBC AMERICA.
Another quick update to the post today as there's a few pieces of news. Firstly here's a new photo and a few words from Adrian Hodges about Season 2. Click on the link to read interviews with the cast too. (Don't forget that there will be something out later tonight too!)
Some things have changed, some things remain the same - the four boys, d'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis are still very much at the centre of the action, but now they have a new and deadly opponent - The Comte De Rochefort, played by Marc Warren.
We're obviously thrilled to add an actor of Marc's experience and quality to our brilliant cast and we think you will enjoy the dangerous journey he takes us on. His interaction with Tom, Luke, Howard and Santiago has been a pleasure to watch for me, as I hope it will be for you.
So, what can you expect from The Musketeers this time? More stunts, more action, a little humour and wit, and some romance in the mix, as before; but I think this is a more demanding journey than before, as we've upped the serial element and taken the show in a slightly tougher and perhaps more surprising direction. It's everything you might expect but taken a degree or two further than last time. The tone remains the same but this is a darker and sexier Musketeers. I really hope you enjoy the ride.
The press screening on Wednesday went very well as I'm sure you all have heard already. In case you have missed it, my preview for the season with a few teasers and a hangman game can be found here.
Colin and Nigel are very busy working on the sound for the next few episodes. The preview I saw for episode 2 made me think that it could possibly become my favourite one yet - those who know my will now be trying to work out why that could be I'm sure, lol! Colin tweeted out this yesterday of the two of them hard at work.

Just a brief update this evening to let you know that the main BBC Musketeer website has been updated with images and information about the cast and crew. You can see them by clicking here and here.
One piece of spoiler news, it seems that Anne and Louis are indeed parents now. Marguerite, played by Charlotte Salt is employed to care for the young Dauphin. There is no news on his name though, so will is be Louis XIV or another name that the young heir bears?
Below are the new shots of the cast, if you click on the thumbnails you will be taken to the full sized images. Jessica Pope isn't included in the Meet the Crew photos, but I'm sure all the fans who come to this site will join me in thanking her too for all the time she has spent on S2, especially in providing the photos and bits of information during filming.
Many thanks to the BBC for the photos

I know it's only been less than a week since the last update, but with some of the cast having been over to Johannesburg this week to promote the show there are lots of lovely photos to share, so I thought I may as well do a small one.
Paul Englishby has tweeted that he is finding the job of scoring for the show enjoyable, albeit different to Luther, which is understandable. He also shared this photo of some mixing for Episode 2.01:
Mixing #TheMusketeers score, season 2 ep 1 at Angel Studios, London, with the brilliant Steve Price engineering. pic.twitter.com/HI5M5rfR3v

Jessica didn't get to go to South Africa with the guys, she's been helping to getting the first episodes finalised and ready for broadcast. Nigel Heath, who did the sound for S1 (and many, many other shows/films) has been working on the sound remix, and it looks like things have been going well.
Channel 24 did a round table interview with the cast while they were in South Africa, here a few of the Q&A's, more can be found on the link:
Channel24:
Do you have any input in how you want your character to evolve in the series?
Howard:
Definitely, collaboration is key. The writers and producers understand that this it is important. We are pretty much involved in everything, not at the beginning of it but once it gets to a certain point we are afforded time and opportunity to give feedback and express ideas. But we do that not just for ourselves but for each other too.
Channel24:
How have you made your characters different from the original characters in the novel?
Maime:
The brilliant thing about having ten hours of television and then another ten hours in the second season is that you’ve got that time which you wouldn’t have in a two hour film to really introduce back story. Milady in the book is very different. She’s much more unrepentant and ruthless in the book. I think they and I wanted to introduce some of the reasons why she is like that and show elements of her fear and her griefs.
Channel24:
You’ve just completed filming the second series what can we look forward to?
Howard:
It’s more character driven because that’s what people enjoy from the first season. We go deeper and it’s fuller for everyone. The stakes are much higher for every character in the show and there’s drama and conflict and it’s a bit darker.
Here's a round up of the photos from SA, plus one from BTS on set of Porthos that the BBC released last week. Don't forget to look out for tweets from my account next week when I will be at the screening of the first episode in London!

Post production is almost done for the first episodes. Some music was being completed over in London at the Angel Studios earlier this week and composer Paul Englishby has teased this page of music on Twitter for those of you that can read sheet music. Does this mean a new recording of the intro tune?

The Press Screening of the first episode and then a live Q & A with the cast, Adrian Hodges & Colin Wratten will be happening in a couple of weeks in London. I will be live tweeting from the event so feel free to follow me for any updates while I am there. If you have any questions you want me to try and ask them then pop them in the comments below.
The BBC have released a couple of behind the scene photos of a rainy day on set saying that Season 2 will be soon. I think we are probably looking at sometime in the next 2-3 months for sure, but not having a definite date at this point is nothing to worry about as it is usual not to have it until fairly close to broadcast. We can make out Tom, Howie and Hugo in this photo, but who is the mysterious person in the black cloak, could it be Marc Warren's Rochefort, or someone else?

— BBC One (@BBCOne) November 18, 2014
There has been a rumour going round that BBC America has set a date for Season 2 of 22nd June 2015, but as this was a Monday (and is exactly the same date that Season 1 started over there) it seemed a bit odd to me. I found out that it appears to have come from this article from Variety which is worded oddly and could be misleading. It's dated from April 2014 and is actually giving the start date of Season 1 and also announcing that Season 2 has been 'greenlit'. As far as I am aware BBC America have not set a date as yet. There is nothing on their Press site to indicate that they have, at present it simply states "a second season will air in 2015"
Here's the usual round up of photos that have come in since the last update, as it was only last week there isn't a huge amount I'm afraid, although the last two are new HQ shots from the BBC, if you click on them you will be taken to our gallery where you will see them in full.
Thanks to Jessica Pope, the BBC, Farawaysite and Paul Englishby for the photos
13th November 2014
Filming has come to an end and post production work is in full swing. The music this season is being scored by award winning composer Paul Englishby and is being recorded in Prague at the Smecky Studio this week.
Nuge over at Geek Syndicate spoke to Adrian Hodges last week who had this to say (more on the link):
Musketeers shooting finishes this week. It’s a deeper and more dangerous series than last time – still recognisably the same tone, but probably less jokey than last time (though still witty, I hope) and more serialised than before with one story going through the whole series as well as various stories of the week.
One piece of exciting casting news came in during the last week of filming. Peter Sullivan from The Borgias, a show that Luca appeared in, will be playing a character rumoured to be called Vargas, which is generally a Spanish or Portuguese surname.

— pete sullivan (@PeterTSullivan) November 8, 2014
Here is a round up of all the photos since the last update. It's lovely to see some of the people who are behind the cameras in some of these, as Peter says above they are the unsung heroes who are just as important to this show as the ones we see on screen. I'm also very glad to see that it appears as though Treville makes it to the finale as he's in a photo with Jessica at the moment when filming wraps, and the photo of Luke getting his beard shaved off made me smile, I get the feeling he was a little bit glad to get rid of it, lol. There's also a character in the background of one intriguing photo with the the stunt guys, Roman & Steve, that we've nicknamed the 'ninja monk' for now. What exactly he's up to in a room full of bunting and a set of scales has us flummoxed, can't wait until Season 2 to find out!

26th October 2014
Lots of news for you on this update!
Filming for Season 2 will be over in less than two weeks and then it will only be three months until it hits our screens, the long wait is almost over Musketeer fans! Well, it is if you are lucky enough to live in the UK, fans living in the USA will still have to wait until June 2015 at present for Season 2 which is a long time to go trying to dodging the inevitable spoilers. Other shows, like Doctor Who, don't have to wait for such a long time before broadcast because fans have made it clear that there is a huge demand for them. So make your voices heard and tweet/message BBC America if you would like them to know the same about The Musketeers!
Producer Jessica Pope has been tweeting with fans about how the crew will be developing plans and ideas for Season 3 once filming finishes on the 7th November. Although the go ahead hasn't been given yet news that the show has been part of the success that has driven up sales of British TV exports by 5% this year must put it in good standing I feel.
@criscougar @SarahMelaney
#Musketeers 2
Series 3 being developed, it's not green lit - that's normal at this point. We travel hopefully :)
— Jessica Pope (@PopeJessica) October 26, 2014
I've started a G+ Community to run along side the site which can be found here. As well as posting the photos and bits of news as the come in you can also add your fan art/videos, unrelated photos, articles, interviews, discussion, etc. There will also be links back to the comments section of this post for any of the spoilers posted over there if you would like to carry any discussions on over here too. It's only small at present, but once Season 2 starts I expect a lot more Gifs and discussion will start to come in.
Adrian Hodges answered some questions over at Live Journal this month, mostly related to S1 but with a few hints looking forward too. A few bits are below, but head over to the link to read the full article.
Q: One word only to describe each of the four Musketeers
Athos: Charismatic
Porthos: Unstoppable
Aramis: Profound
D’Artagnan: Heroic
Q: Where are the palace scenes filmed? The rooms are absolutely gorgeous. Are they part of a real location?
A: All the Louvre Palace scenes are done in a variety of locations in the Czech Republic, bar the new Queen's chambers, which you'll see in the new series which is a set at our fixed base in Doksany.
Q: Will we see d'Artagnan continue to grow and develop into the legendary character he becomes in the books?
A: In due course, but we're not in any rush. He certainly faces some really tough challenges this year, both in physical terms and romantically. But I think the "heroic journey" you mean is more for the third season. But it's always been part of our plan.
Q: Can you tell us something about each of the four main characters that hasn’t yet appeared on screen in the series (however inconsequential)?
A: Not without spoiling the next series! Suffice to say that we find out something important that we didn't know about each of the characters this time around - less so Athos and d'Artagnan perhaps, but definitely Porthos and Aramis.
Finally, here are the photos from the last couple of weeks. Porthos seems to be enjoying getting all muddy, and Constance too is hinting at becoming 'dirty' herself in one snap, perhaps she needs to take a bathe in the lake from the location of Tamla's other photo here. d'Artagnan is on set with some bears and appears to have hurt himself in the group shot. Athos is getting chummy with Milady - what do you think can be going on there?! And why do you think Aramis is looking so sad, could it be related to the possibility that someone dies in episode 9 as we speculated might happen in our last update?
Thanks to Jessica Pope, the BBC, Luke Pasqualino, Natalie Douglas, Maimie McCoy, Howard Charles and Tamla Kari for the photos
12th October 2014
The cast and crew started filming for the final two episodes this week and it looks like we will have to brace ourselves for some sad news in at least one of those as Jessica tweeted this on Thursday
@taxigal45 @DeborahAnstey @Cheryl2c96
It's all a bit sad what we're filming today but I can't tell you why......
— Jessica Pope (@PopeJessica) October 9, 2014
She was asked if this meant that Athos would be dying and this was her cryptic reply
@taxigal45 @DeborahAnstey @Cheryl2c96
He doesn't......
— Jessica Pope (@PopeJessica) October 9, 2014
As you can imagine, this has caused quite a stir in the comments below as we have been speculating what this could mean. We're pretty sure that the main four Musketeers will be safe but have concerns for Treville, Milady, Constance, Marguerite and young Louis XIV. Who do you think it could be, or do you have any other theory as to what the tweets could mean? We'd love to hear from you in the comments below.
The site is currently running a poll to see which shows to set up dedicated twitter accounts for, and The Musketeers is one of the options. If you click here you will be taken to the page if you would like to vote. It would be helpful to have a twitter account for the show for when Season 2 comes back so that we can spread the word when new clips, previews, photos, etc go live quickly to all the fans. Last season was great fun as we all got together to discuss and speculate on any new information as it came out.
Jessica was asked last week by a fan when Season 2 would be starting, here is her reply
@LizUK
Sometime in early 2015.
— Jessica Pope (@PopeJessica) October 2, 2014
So it appears that we are still looking around February 2015 is my guess, probably after Atlantis finishes its run.
Here are the photos from the last couple of weeks, not as many as last time I'm afraid, but there are couple of nice ones of Rochefort this time round. In one it looks like he is with a priest or Cardinal of some kind, which has made me wonder if he could possibly be working for the Pope, what do you think? In another d'Artagnan's beard is coming on nicely so this must be from the latest episodes, and he doesn't look happy at all, what do you think has upset him?
Thanks to Jessica Pope, the BBC, Howard Charles and Tamla Kari for the photos

Only 5 and a half weeks left of filming to go Musketeer fans, and it's been a busy couple of weeks on set as the press have visited so we should be expected to see some interviews and reports coming out later this autumn I hope! It seems much of the recent guest cast have finished filming for episodes 7 & 8; Phoebe Dynevor tweeted yesterday that she was on her last day of filming, and sent this intriguing tweet on Thursday:
Currently being covered in mud. 'ilovemyjobilovemyjobilovemyjob'
— phoebe dynevor (@phoebe_dynevor) September 26, 2014
Here's a round up of all the photos we've been discussing in the comments since the last update. They include a possible dishevelled Rochefort in one of Aramis' photos, Luca standing up for Emma Watson's #HeforShe campaign, Marguerite & Anne looking rather scared/surprised and some BTS shots on set of the cast and some of the press that visited the set a couple of weeks ago.

The ever resourceful Scoobie has found out some casting news, Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Merlin), Perdita Weeks, Emma Hamilton and Ben Starr have been tweeting that they have joined the crew out in Prague for the current block of filming this past week. Phoebe Dynevor and Amanda Wass have also tweeted that they have been filming too, so it looks like episode 7 or 8 will have a lot of guest stars in!
Maimie confirmed that Season 2 will be returning to BBC 1 in February 2015 while at the TV Choice Awards. My guess is that we are possibly looking at the 15th Feb, Valentine weekend, what do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below :)

Secondly, Colin Salmon (Arrow, 24, Bond, Spooks, Doctor Who....let's face it, the list is practically endless) mentioned he would also be guesting during an interview on ITV's Loose Women.
Any guesses to the roles either of these two could be taking on?

It's been confirmed, the Cardinal will not be returning at all next season:
"Come the next series the Cardinal will be dead. He'll just be gone," Tom Burke (who plays Athos) told Radio Times.
We're all like, 'Where's the Cardinal? Oh he's dead'" he continued. "It's a great example of economic storytelling. Their new nemesis will be Rochefort, who's played by Marc Warren."

Marc Warren has been cast as Rochefort, the main post for this can be found by clicking here
Richard Mulholland has been on set filming this week, looks to be only 3 days.
Charlotte Salt's Agent has confirmed that her character is called 'Marguerite', and she has tweeted that she has been taught how to lace up a corset, maybe her character will be a maid or lady in waiting? (Cheers to Scoobie for the heads up on this information)
After the flurry of photos from day one it's been a relatively quiet week from the set. Below are a collection of photos some of the cast & crew have tweeted, a couple do include a glimpse of costumes. No mourning get up for Louis I notice, and some very posh material for Constance (alongside Tamla's snug boots).

A video from CMS TV which shows some of the cast on boot camp. Many thanks to Maki for finding this for us, and providing the following translation:
They talk about the special horses, sword fighting techniques and localities where they're going to film. They explained how they prepare the horses for gunshots, smoke, etc...and they also had to buy a new horse for Luke because the one he had during the first season was very lively and restless and caused Luke too much trouble :)
They are definitely training hard..the trainer said for example that they have to spend at least 30 minutes on the horseback (for the horses to adjust) before the real training starts.
Concerning the sword training, Roman said that every character has their special personal sword that fits them and at the end of the video he praises the actors: "Their fighting skills really improved since the last season. They aren't 100% perfect, but that can be forgiven since the camera is merciful.":D
The leader of the stuntmen mentioned that there are always some accidents during the training (he didn't give us any specific story, though), but never when they're finally filming.
The filming starts 7th April 2014 and ends at the end of November. That's probably everything they said about the cast and the series at all.
Update - The video has since been removed :(
Thanks for compiling Sandi. Looking forward to the updates :)
ReplyDeleteCheers, huge thanks must go to Maki for finding the video for us, she's our Czech's spy since I didn't manage to win the Lottery and make it over there myself, lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Bookmarked!
ReplyDeleteCheers, look forward to speculating with you on Season 2!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandi! I love getting these updates. I already miss the show and the waiting's gonna be so long...
ReplyDeleteLong hiatus will be long :( But at least with Jessica promising to keep us updated with photos and the lads doing the same on social media too (I imagine Ryan Gage will join Luke and Howard too from next week) it should keep us going until November at least :D
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to keep up on filming! It will make the hiatus seem a bit shorter, I hope!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the new page, Sandi. It will be great to be able to keep track of season 2 filming.
ReplyDeleteThanks for compiling Sandi²
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update thread :) it'll help bridge the long gap until series 2.
ReplyDeleteA whole year! It's gonna be incredibly long...but on the other hand it's nothing when compared to Sherlock's hiatus, I guess. That's just gonna be neverending!
ReplyDeleteHi there M, good to see you here, and you're welcome :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for opening this thread, it will help with the waiting ^^
ReplyDeleteI've watched the first season in the last two days, it was getting better and better after each episode. I'm in love with this show hahaha
ReplyDeleteAwesome, glad you enjoyed it. Bit of a change in pace from Banshee, but variety can be good, lol
ReplyDeleteI like to vary, I'm also watching Grimm, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Arrow, Da Vinci's Demons among others but Banshee has a special place in my heart.
ReplyDeleteSo it's looking like Milady will be a regular in Season 2 if Alexandra's tweet this afternoon is anything to go by. Who do we think will be replacing Capaldi though? Are you hoping for a recast or replacement?
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/alishelson/status/452800053598756864
Oh, yes! Two years this time? More? But hey, I feel like we're getting used to it ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the new thread, Sandi! Can't wait until juicy spoilery bits start getting revealed so we can begin our speculating.
ReplyDeleteAbout Milady....this surprises me a bit. I thought they would keep her in the background for a while before they brought her back. Do you think she will go all out evil villain in season 2 or maybe be redeemed by the end? Not sure I see a redemption story for her, but some shows have redeemed villains before....we'll see, I guess.
I guess they want to keep continuity going with Capaldi gone? I'm leaning towards there being a gap of a year or more between S1 & S2 now though I think with this news, to give her chance to have been in Spain or England and made a connection with a new ally.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the thread Sandi. I'm going to love this place, I just know it! I think you're right that there will be a gap of a year or two, maybe more between the end of series one and the beginning if series two. By then the dust will have well and truly settled. As you rightly say Sandi, Milady may have formed a new alliance, or alliances while on her travels and will return in a new mission, seasoned as always by her desire for revenge. This time both Athos and D'Artagnan are likely to be in her sights. It will be interesting to see where the characters are emotionally. There'll be a baby Musketeer or possibly the heartache of a miscarriage. If the baby has arrived it will be a little toddling time bomb and the issue of it's true parentage and the need to conceal it, is likely to take up much of the series.
ReplyDeleteWill D'Artagnan attempt to move on from Constance, only to find those old feelings haven't died and won't die when they encounter each other again? Hopefully Anne and Constance will somehow end up as confidants. It's not only a reference to the book but would provide great narrative drive fir both if them. If Constance found out the truth about the baby it would be a dangerous secret to hold and one that if it were to be revealed could mean death for them all.
They're shooting in Prague? How did I miss that? That's actually not so far away from me. Sort of. Winning a lottery would be helpful but maybe I could at least show up there for a day. But still... would have to pick the right place and the right day.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed!
Well, I definitely think a gap of a year or at least until right after the baby is born. I appreciate continuity, but with Athos threatening her the way that he did, I think it would seem strange to see her back so soon on our screens time gap or not. I was almost certain that we would see her towards the series end if not at the very end creating a cliffhanger. But I guess not...
ReplyDeleteIt could be that we only see her away from Paris, or at least only lurking in one of her doorways (a fav pastime of hers XD), for sometime for at least a few episodes. I would like to see Athos free of her, and the damage she has caused him. The dropping of her necklace was a lovely touch in the finale, he didn't throw it but just discarded it like all the attachment had left him, I'd like to see that side of him, for a while at least.
ReplyDeleteSunny, I know what you mean. I think if they use her early it will be sparsely and will be designed to seed her in for later events. We may see her as a shadowy mastermind of events, without seeing her actively participating in them. She may even be based in another country or certainly outside Paris initially.
ReplyDeleteI kind of hope there isn't too much focus on the baby and its parentage, I don't think I'd want anything more than, say, an episode or so of time on it if I'm honest. I want more adventures and things that involves all four of them rather than concentrating on individuals too much. We had centric episodes at the start of the series, which worked to establish the characters then, but for season 2 I'd rather see more of a unified/brotherhood approach to the episodes. I also think that too much time spent at the palace would be a mistake too, as much as I love Gage in particular I think the balance of time we spent at court was about right this year.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you about Constance, she needs to get back into the action and be less of plot device for the men in her life. I wonder if they will still be working for the Red Guards in S2? That could be interesting dramatically, having her working for the opposition so to speak, she could be out there spying and doing missions under cover which would be fab. Though I do kind of prefer the Anne confidant idea, as long as they don't spend much screen time talking about the men in their lives, as that kind of defeats the object of making either strong, independent women, lol.
My guess is that they will start 6 months on and Anne is about to give birth. There's lots of potential for drama there - her life hanging in the balance perhaps, a frantic Aramis needing to know what is going on, Athos knowing why he is so exercised, but the others not, etc. It would be good if Peter Capaldi could do at least one or two episodes at the beginning so that they can make his leaving a big story at the start of series 2. You would think that with both The Musketeers and Doctor Who being BBC shows, they could make it work, if they want to.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking perhaps eventual redemption for Milady (being prepared to sacrifice herself for some reason for somebody Athos cares about, one of the musketeers maybe ??). There are only so many times that she can do something bad and Athos can let her walk away and they are very good together on screen.

ReplyDeleteOh they aren't they, Burke and McCoy are superb in their scenes together!
ReplyDeleteHooray !! Great news.
ReplyDeleteI agree Sandi, I don't think the baby, if it's born, will be a constant in the series, I wouldn't be keen on that either as it risks descending into soap opera melodrama but I think the secret will form an important evolving plot. I can't believe, given the emphasis it was given and Aramis' pledge to defend the child with his life, that they don't intend to pursue it. I think if Constance does come into the Queen's sphere it's likely to involve her in palace intrigue and hopefully a degree if mutual empowerment, much more than it merely being a case of the two having girlie moments comparing notes on their respective Musketeers. We've been promised that Constance will get her fight back and this is good news as far as I'm concerned. I want to see her grabbing her life with both hands and pursuing adventure in every respect, both as an individual and in her relationship with D'Artagnan. She's savvy and she's brave. She's an asset to the Musketeers and a true friend. She's also a passionate young woman, deeply in love. That doesn't diminish her, it makes her stronger, if she's allowed to commit to it and not merely be a victim of circumstance. It's important to remember that her romance with D'Artagnan isn't all about him and whether or not his heart is broken. It's also about her. She deserves to pursue her own desires, happiness and fulfilment and clearly that lies with him.
ReplyDeleteThe casting was one of the series' triumphs. As well as the four musketeers and Capaldi, the King is great in his slightly comic role and I think all the three main couples have great chemistry.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised Milady may be a regular too, since I thought the producers would keep her in the background for at least half the series, in order to give the show a new feel - especially where Athos is concerned. I suppose like Sandi says, with Capaldi gone, they couldn't have Milady gone too.
ReplyDeleteI like Milady and I'm pleased she's retuning, I'm just surprised she may be a regular character like she was in series 1.
I agree Sandi, I don't want there to be too much focus on the baby in series 2 either, not least because there was no DNA testing back then and for the Cardinal to just accuse the Queen of treason without any strong evidence would be very risky indeed.
ReplyDeleteNo sign of baby bump here! In fact, black??? For mourning???
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/PopeJessica/status/453117312510738432/photo/1
Beat me to it, lol. I thought exactly the same as soon as I saw the photo on twitter myself, and just got online to post the photo XD. Is the mourning for the death of the Cardinal perhaps? The dress seems more fancy than what I imagine she'd wear for the mourning of someone she'd really care for maybe?
ReplyDeleteI know! I can't figure out who it could be. That would be a cheap way to solve the Capaldi problem, so I hope not. The baby?? That seems a bit of a stretch though...
ReplyDeleteIt would be wouldn't it, I'm kinda coming round to a recast now though I was against it to begin with. I agree the baby's death is a stretch too, why set it up to knock it down straight away, and wouldn't she be less glamorous looking in her mourning, more black crepe & less lace. I'm off to see who it could be historically..
ReplyDeleteHmm, so Anne had a stillbirth in April 1631 (which would tie in to the 1630 date in the pilot) and her younger brother Charles died aged 25 in July 1632, either, or neither, could be a possibility, lol.
ReplyDeleteHhhmmm, you might be on to something. Quite the mystery. Either way, I love her shoes! =)
ReplyDeleteThe boys look like they walked straight from series 1 into series 2. Confusing my thoughts on a time gap, this is!
Maybe the second season takes place months later and Anne already gave birth to the baby. No idea about the mourning though. Cardinal?
ReplyDeleteLet's not say recast. Let's say....regenerate. =)
ReplyDeleteCharlotte Salt's joining the cast. Hmm, interesting. Wouldn't mind seeing Athos get a non-homicidal love interest in series two. That would certainly tick off Milady. I fear though that she may be the tedious and ultra predictable new "love" interest for D'Artagnan. Her only purpose being to be loathed and ultimately humiliated. I seem to recall that in the novel there was a lady in waiting to the Queen who had a crush on him. It's dangerously dull territory if that's the plan and one I think most of us have seem coming like a float at Mardis Gras. It also dilutes the power of the emotions that exist between Constance and D'Artagnan and just adds to the emotional carnage that litters that relationship. I fear it could also be a monumental drag on Constance as a character who would face at least one scene every week of looking pained as some other woman ultimately walks off with her man. It all pure speculation if course but if that's the direction of travel, I could do without it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting though that she talks of going on their adventures. As a love interest to one if the other Musketeers that might be a fun idea. She and Constance forming their own bond over time and could be good.If Constance is also a component of their daring do, things could get a bit crowded, not to mention hostile! Fingers crossed she has another more interesting and less predictable purpose, maybe as the Queen's sister? I'm hopeful that, rather than continue with the 15 minute love interests we'll actually get some more female characters recurring in the series that we can get to know and who feel real. I'd also really like to see another side to Athos.
Ah, more questions than answers. Certainly if they're picking up immediately then it's still early days for the baby bump. The black dress is intriguing. Could it be mourning? Or a style statement? Has the Cardinal done a disappearing act? Or are we on for a re-cast? On the plus side the guys still look even more yummy than those cupcakes!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if they shoot scenes in the approximate order in which they are viewed so what we are seeing is from episode 1 ? Wearing that, the Queen must be in mourning, but I cannot believe that it is the baby given all the trouble they went to to set that story up. Also, I don't think a devastated Queen, devastated King and devastated Aramis are going to fit very well with generally light hearted Sunday swashbuckling.
ReplyDeleteI would assume they are filming the episodes we saw them read through last week, which were 1 & 2. Generally they would be done back to back with the same director, and they would move on to the next 'block' and repeat the process again beginning with a read through. Some episodes may be filmed slightly out of sync, due to directors/actors/locations used or other issues, but usually they are pretty much done in order.
ReplyDeleteThe only way I could think that it would be the baby dying is if it's used to drive a wedge between Louis and Anne, their marriage certainly suffered as it went on in later years and it became very bad between them as things broke down. The lack of an heir and trouble with Spain both being firmly blamed on her by the King and the Cardinal, the relationship we've seen so far in the show is nothing like it is in the books, or in real life to some extent.
Ha, they do indeed! Do you think if we asked BBC America nicely they would arrange to have them delivered to us.... XD
ReplyDeleteAhh, of course, why didn't think of it being not too far from you! Second spy is in place ;) hehe
ReplyDeleteYes, it will be interesting to see who she'll be, whether a regular or just an occasional, I'm guessing she'll start in the next block of filming. I quite like the idea of a part of the Queen's family, or maybe some romance for Treville, the poor man has kind of been left out in the cold on that front so far himself.
ReplyDeleteI read that she is a regular. Based on that, I think she will be more than a side love interest for d'Artagnan. I think there are too few episodes to drag a love triangle plot out for him with a regular and still resolve everything. But I could be wrong. I like the idea of her being at court either as a member of the royal family or as Gage's mistress. Maybe somebody for Athos or Porthos? Haha.
ReplyDeleteI take Tigercheetah's point that it is a bit much to expect D'Artagnan to deny himself any romance when it seems that all hope for himself and Constance is gone. However, this would be a tricky one for the writers to get right. His devotion to his true love is part of the power of the story. She does after all "shine so brightly in his eyes that it puts all other women in the shade." Have we had a sudden eclipse? If she were a one or two episode character I think some flirtation would be viable but as Sunny says, she seems to be a new regular. Being introduced under those circumstances, as merely a roadblock is a pretty poisoned chalice and I hate the idea that Constance will simply be offered more opportunities to suffer in series two. Getting her "fight" back shouldn't mean a cat fight. That's not giving us powerful female characters just the 17th Century equivalent of two girls putting down their WKD and kebab and trying to lamp each other with their stilleto! I think if we are to bond with her, I would much prefer her to be destined for one of the other Musketeers. Now that Athos has thrown away the locket, can he really move on? A love interest for him might allow us to see another aspect to the character and has the added advantage of putting any such woman on a direct collision course with Milady. I also quite like the idea that we might see some of the females in the series actually befriending each other so that they start to have a function aside from the men.
ReplyDeleteOh that's a possibility, the next Charlotte Mellendorf so to speak if this pregnancy doesn't go as planned maybe? That would certainly cause problems within the marriage wouldn't it. Mourning could go in for some time (as we saw for Alice in The Challenge) so we could be coming into S2 at the tail end of it months, or even a year, down the line and miss much of the heart wrenching grief. Like you say above the devastation of the characters involved would be a bit much to have to go through if it was still very new to them.
ReplyDeleteSame here, they have been keeping very quiet about the new big bad, very frustrating on one hand, but on the other hand it has given us a chance to speculate on the apparent mourning outfit of Anne's from yesterday. Not knowing if the Cardinal has regenerated or not has left the baby plot wide open, they could well have had her lose the poor mite and take a different direction to what we all thought from the finale if he isn't going to be about.
ReplyDeleteRochefort would make the most sense to cast imo, both for D'Artagnan and Milady's POV, and probably Athos' actually. He would interact and progress all of them nicely I feel.
I'm not saying D'artagnan will have a full-blown romance with someone other than Constance in series 2 but like Athos in episode 7 - who was still mourning the loss of his love for Milady throughout series 1 - he could have his head turned by another woman briefly.
ReplyDeleteAlso, in order for Constance to grow as a woman in her own right, she may need time away from seeing D'artagnan on a regular basis. The passionate feelings they had during the last episodes of series 1 may need to reduce somewhat, in order for them to develop in other areas. When the situation is right, their feelings should return again.
There might be less romance for the Musketeers in series 2 anyway, if Adrian Hodges wants a new feel to a new series. It will still be there but perhaps less prominant.
Another new cast member, Richard Mulholland.
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/dickdarstardly/status/453253780554129408/photo/1
Yeah, it perhaps wouldn't need to be Roachford specifically, just a 'big bad' who can be amongst the Musketeers on a more intimate level than the Cardinal ever could - a rougher and more personal kind of bad guy.
ReplyDeleteThere's still question marks over whether Richielou will be re-cast or not of course.
I wonder when they will announce their decision about the Cardinal, casting may still be going on I guess, either to replace or recast?
ReplyDeleteI get what you're saying and I completely agree Tigercheetah. I wouldn't have a problem with that either. It's all still pure fun speculation as yet, so who knows who Ms Salt will be playing. I'm just hoping she won't be rubbing salt into the wound argh..sorry...it was just sitting there so I had to grab it...Personally, I think she'd look great with Athos. She has a classic, quite glacial look which I think would work well with him.
ReplyDeleteI'd be surprised if they keep Constance away from D'Artagnan for too long to be honest, even if it's only a passing moment of glancing each other in the street. Her options for adventure with the prat are somewhat limited and she needs to get back in the action. Aside from which the chemistry between Luke Pasqualino and Tamla Kari would be a sin to waste. That's why I think a happy middle ground would be interaction with another strong female paired with one of the Musketeers, or indeed as many of us have urged, the Queen, to give Constance a source of companionship and a sounding board which would also potentially allow her to develop as a woman, outside of her romantic entanglements, whilst still teasing the audience with the promise of what might evolve with her Musketeer.
Today was Tamla's first day back filming! Yay, go Constance. She posted a pic on twitter of her feet in a pair of ultra cosy boots. Not very 17th Century but very practical. There was also a glimpse of a new outfit. Black seems to be a running theme for our Muskettes in series two. This time embellished with a silver pattern. It doesn't look like an every day dress fabric and seems to be quite a sophisticated for our usually functionally attired Constance. These little snippets are great. Can't wait to put the jigsaw puzzle together next year.
ReplyDeleteIt did look almost like a 'courtly' material didn't it, I quite liked the pattern :)
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/TamlaKari/status/453514489955360769/photo/1
Yeah I think he will have to have told someone about it, not sure if it would be Milady though as he basically threw her under a bus in the finale, but maybe another source. Perhaps Bonacieux, as a way of fleshing out his character next season, or someone else we haven't met yet.
ReplyDeleteI think you've hit on something here Sandi. Black was a difficult colour to dye onto fabric in the 17th Century and as such, black fabric was expensive and would have generally been worn either for a special occasion, or at court. I wonder if Constance will indeed find herself at the Palace, in which case Bonacieux will want Constance in his very finest fabric. She'll have to dress to impress. Something tells me a certain Musketeer may just be. Lol.
ReplyDeleteExactly, black & silver material was very extravagant back then, they must be doing well money wise to be able to afford to dress her in it. It looks like it could be silk too?
ReplyDeleteIt would be funny if this was just a robe she was given in wardrobe! Lol. I do wonder though if the whole "I tried to kill myself" thing that Bonacieux pulled might actually have been promoted by Milady, for which Bonacieux was financially rewarded. It's the sort of stunt she might just pull as an act of revenge against D'Artagnan, denying him the woman he loves. I suspect the prat will be on someone's payroll in the second series. Hopefully over time Constance will find out the truth.
ReplyDeleteHaha yes, one of times we speculate over entirely the wrong thing and ask ourselves why we never saw this black & silver dress in the show XD
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, but with Athos knowing that Aramis could well be the father, if Milady suspected that was the case as well, that combination might make for some interesting scenes.
ReplyDeleteAhh, that's true, didn't think of that. Milady blackmailing her back into favour maybe?
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that there will be some link in series two between Bonacieux and Milady. In the novel he betrays Constance and becomes a cardinalist agent. If they don't recast the Cardinal, they could easily play him as Milady's spy. I definitely think she was somehow behind the "suicide" attempt. We know Bonacieux is broke and so does Milady, so she's got leverage. She also knows about the love between Constance and D'Artagnan. There's more than enough material there for her to manipulate Bonacieux whom we also know is a weak and vain man. They need to flesh this out in series two and certainly they need to decide how they're going to play this out. I don't think they can realistically go back to the well a third time with Constance deciding she can't leave him. Even if it's not into D'Artagnan's arms but elsewhere, or that she remains but finally realises that she should have no loyalty to this man, there needs to be some forward momentum and not more excuses to linger in a perpetual holding pattern. Otherwise we are into the realms of predictability.
ReplyDeleteYou could well be right about a Bonacieux / Milady link. I think he will have to move a bit along the badness scale so that there is perceived to be justification for Constance re-establishing a relationship with D'Artagnan.
ReplyDeleteDo we know if Jessica is likely to post more shooting updates ? Monday was great, but I don't think there has been anything since. I guess they don't want to give too much away, though.
Sandi why did you mentioned Banshee??? After this I had to watch the whole season again hahahah. There is any news about season 3?
ReplyDeleteI've made a post of it's own for Marc Warren's casting news today which can be found here - http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/04/the-musketeers-series-2-marc-warren.html
ReplyDeleteHa, cool. I haven't heard much I'm afraid. I've just headed out for the next few days, but will have a look about & report back in the Yawners interview post at the weekend :)
ReplyDeleteIn addition to the great casting news about Marc Warren and the addition of Rochefort, I would have liked to have seen the casting of Madame de Chevreuse. She's an interesting character in The Three Musketeers. She's a close confidant of the Queen and a mistress of Aramis. She embroils the Queen in political intrigue and was banished from Court by King Louis XIII after a tragic incident in which the Queen falls and miscarries her baby during a "game" which Madame de Chevreuse innocently encourages her to participate in. I had thought this might be an interesting role for Charlotte Salt but her management team have today confirmed that she will be a playing an unspecified regular character called "Marguerite." Probably some kind of composite character, so sadly Constagnan fans can't rest easy, or stop the mass production of voodoo dolls just yet. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI think a role as a maid or a lady in waiting is very likely for Charlotte. She did mention on twitter being taught how to lace up a corset. Handy for her own character of course but then I would have thought that wardrobe is likely to do that for her. If she's playing a maid though, she would need to learn the skill in order to do it realistically. Time will soon tell what her role is, no doubt.
ReplyDeleteScoobie sent me a mail saying that looks like Scot Brian McCardie will be on the show. It's not very clear if he's guesting or if it's a bigger role as yet, but he was tweeting with Maimie and someone called Joseph Steyne earlier today.

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-04-22/peter-capaldis-cardinal-richelieu-will-be-dead-when-the-musketeers-returns
ReplyDeleteWell, we were all afraid of this. I guess this is why Anne has donned her mourning apparel.
Cheers for the heads up Sunny. What a let down, even Tom sounds a bit downhearted about it there :s
ReplyDeleteAgreed! His response was a bit odd - as if he knew it wasn't a good explanation!
ReplyDeleteIt could just be the Radio Times slant on it, they aren't the biggest fans of the show as we know, but yeah it does sound odd.
ReplyDeleteJust added a few photos to the post too that I had been saving for the next update, got to say that I do love Marc's costume, it's so ragged! Can't wait to see what his character will be like.
ReplyDelete"It's a great example of economic storytelling" omg... that was harsh. I hope the 1st episode of season 2 will not be disappointing, and that they'll give a better explanation than "ho, he's dead". =(
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm trying to be optimistic and hope it's just a bad out of context quote. It would surprise me more to hear Tom being pessimistic about the show than the Radio Times spinning it to sound harsh. It's not like he hasn't had time to get used to the idea before talking to hem after all, it just sounds odd :s
ReplyDeleteHere's the BBC America Trailer for anyone who just wants to relive some of season one, it put a smile on my face to watch it :)
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysOaMjyG42s
Exactly ! The whole quote sounds weird actually, imo
ReplyDeleteThose are some rather fetching sleeves on his coat. LOL. Athos even looks impressed - can't stop staring at them!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm being a bit hopeful here, but this sounds so strange I wonder if it is a red herring to throw us off. Maybe a more thoughtful in depth explanation comes later...or maybe they are going to leave it open towards the end of the season in case he returns for future seasons. "Surprise! He's really not dead! We fooled you!" Ha. Perhaps not. Grasping at straws here.
ReplyDeletehaha yes! It looks so textured, bet it's uncomfortable to wear, but the suede looks nice to stroke ;) (Oh dear, I'm off already and S2 hasn't even started XD)
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that there's a decent death send off, though why he couldn't have just gone to Rome I don't know :( I guess there's always hope that they are fooling us, but I don't think they'd be able to keep it quiet if he did do any filming because of the logistics of it all.
ReplyDeleteI must confess, I do love Tom Burke he has a deliciously dry sense of humour and such an elegant turn of phrase. whomever is responsible for the PR surrounding The Musketeers needs to start to get a grip on some of this. As has been said, the Radio Times has been no fan of The Musketeers but coupled with Tom's quote, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence or enthusiasm about series two, or indeed the quality of the writing. It's also lousy timing ahead of the BBC America launch. There's not really much they could do but losing Richelieu so soon is a blow and he was such a significant pivotal character that simply brushing off his departure, runs the risk of seriously diminishing this version of the story. I have a feeling though that it won't be quite as dismissive as Tom suggests. Or rather, I hope it won't. I know this isn't intended as a faithful adaptation but rather a modern "take" on the characters but it shouldn't descend into farce and they can acknowledge that we all know what happened really with Capaldi, whilst respecting that the audience needs and deserves to be provided with a coherent narrative.
ReplyDeleteExactly, Marc Warren is huge casting coup for the show, it's only because Capaldi went on to get the role of the Doctor after he had filmed most of season 1 that most people see him as a huge loss.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I actually just finished my re-watch. Got my sister to join me and now we're both waiting for season 2 :) Btw, I'm still quite surprised the Cardinal is dead. I know Peter's busy with Doctor Who, but somehow I expected something more/different to happen with his character on The Musketeers. Wonder how the new villain's gonna effect the story.
ReplyDeleteIt is odd isn't it, I'm kind of surprised they kept in him over hearing Anne and Aramis if they just go with him being dead at the start of S2, seems kind of pointless?! lol. Maybe he's passed the info on to Warren's character somehow?
ReplyDeleteI must be one of the few people who's not that bothered that the Cardinal won't be in series 2 - though killing him off this quickly is a bit lame - as long as Roachfort is a suitably villianess replacement and the Musketeers are developing nicely.
ReplyDeleteThere's a pic on twitter of Luke - dressed as D'artagnan - holding a beautiful eagle on his arm. I wonder if we visit Roachfort's home in the first episodes of the new series and the eagle is one of his pets / hunting birds?
I've just grabbed a few pictures of the huntings birds to add to the post from Howard & Luke's Instgram, I'll get that done at some point later today, just in the middle of doing something else atm. Cheers for the heads up :D It may be a hunting trip with Louis that they go on, he does seem to enjoy his hunting over his ruling doesn't he XD
ReplyDeleteHey ! I've just read your comment, and your not the only one ! I'm not that bothered about Peter Capaldi's absence in Season 2 either. (I'm just worried about ratings) I'm still waiting to watch the 1st episode of this new season to see how they explain the Cardinal's death to make up my judgment.
ReplyDeleteI love the character of Rochefort. In the first book, he was like an invisible threat or something, d'Artagnan kept crossing his path at the most unexpected moments, and his description by the BBC intrigued me. "a man nursing many secrets and a very dark past. As the series progresses the true nature of his plotting is revealed and everyone around him is drawn into his sinister web. Ultimately, only the Musketeers and their loyal allies and friends stand between him and a desperate act that will change all their lives forever.". I can't wait to find out his dark secret, and to see how it will affect our four musketeers, and perhaps some other characters. I don't think he will be similar to the Rochefort in the books (though I hope they kept his good manners), who worked for the Cardinal and occasionally Milady, but I'm already interested in finding out more about him, even though I don't know Marc Warren as an actor at all. I just hope he will sell the character in the right way =D
Marc Warren is a great actor, I much, much prefer him over Capaldi any day of the week, I'd say he's just as popular a draw for the show, probably even more so in some ways. He's more varied for a start, does cheeky chappy very well, as well as the villain/straight guy side of things, or indeed the little lost, abandoned boy thing, certainly more of a character actor than Capadli. I can see him fitting in very well with the 4 main leads they have at present, and I think he and Milady will be interesting too, lots of snark and banter going on between them I'd imagine!
ReplyDeleteWell, I can say that I'm glad to "hear" that from you ^^ I trust your tastes in actors ;) And I think I'll love to see Milady interacting with her "equal", and not only the over-powerfull Cardinal. I trust their choice even more now, thx to you ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope we'll have some news coming soon, or set photos (I know we've had the eagles yesterday, but I'm insatiable I guess xD (and there was no Santiago in those eagle pics, soooooo...)) wow, double parentheses !
There does seem to be very little news about at the moment, I have the feeling that they are concerned too much information may leak occidentally and so are being extra careful. I'd love a few pics of Santiago, Tom and Marc from the set, but as they aren't active social media peeps it just isn't as likely unless Jessica is there I don't think :(
ReplyDeleteIf you can get hold of either Hustle (S1-4) or Mad Dogs both have Marc Warren in and are pretty good shows. The former is a kind of Ocean's Eleven/Leverage type show by the BBC, light hearted and fun, the latter is by Sky and is much darker, more gangland/on the run kind of thing. I have to admit that I haven't watched the last two episodes of Mad Dogs that aired Xmas last year, by all accounts they wrapped it up in a dreadful way so I haven't gotten round to it, I know I'm not alone in giving it a miss, lol. The first season is phenomenal though, and the third is probably my second favourite :)
Thx for the advice, I'll watch these (Hustle sounds really interesting !) when I can =D
ReplyDeleteAs for the pictures of our favorite guys (he he) maybe the actual social media peeps that are the other two will take photographs of Santiago, Tom and the new guy Marc (I'd like to see more of his costume, it looks cool on the photo from Jessica Pope's twitter, from the back anyway.) And it looks like Santiago's got longer hair this season, but I'm not sure of it, so I'd like to confirm lol I'm weird, I know, but that's important ;)
I really enjoyed Hustle when it was on, it was the show that made me start liking Marc, and the rest of the cast are great too. Actually, in (I think S4 iirc) the leader of the group takes a year out and Warren takes over the group, and a new lad joins them as the newbie. You remember the guy who played Porthos' childhood friend in Homecoming, Charon? He's the chap who plays the newbie in that one series, lol. Of the two shows, I think you'd enjoy Hustle more if I'm honest.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, I would love to see more of their costumes and what they are up to. But then again on the other hand I guess knowing too much would hurt the theory making next season, so I'm kinda in two minds atm over it all XD I've been kept really busy the last couple of weeks with other things but every now and again I find myself really missing the show :( Still need to win the lottery and fly us all over there for a Musketeers spotting party, hehe!
If all the people on the Musketeers' thread flew to Prague, it would rather become a "stalking party" I'm afraid. We're far too crazy ! Poor cast and crew ! lol
ReplyDelete(one or two Santi photos wouldn't hurt, I'm pretty sure of that...)
Haha, that is very true, they'd probably run a mile if we all suddenly descended on the city en mass XD

Sandi !!!!! All we had to do was ask apparently !!!
Awww, Jessica is the best!! :DD Cheers for posting hun!
ReplyDeleteSo what is D'Artagnan looking at, it's not Constance or a baby according to the replies she's had already. Hmmm.
Some people on twitter (our dear Juliet I think !) guessed for a female bird. That would be cute ^^
ReplyDeleteAhh yes, the eagle :D
ReplyDeleteYay, Aramis :D
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/PopeJessica/status/461624667795881984/photo/1
And Constance :D
https://twitter.com/PopeJessica/status/461625068070912000/photo/1
Constance really does look like she's dressed up again in that shot doesn't she, I really get the feeling that she and hubby are doing better for themselves money wise this season!
ReplyDeleteAnd finally, Porthos, looking very rugged ;)
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/PopeJessica/status/461626608458428416
Hhh.. So he has longer hair. mm...
ReplyDeleteAnd Constance wears that thing on her dress, the collar (I don't know how to call it) that the ladies-in-waiting and the Queen's entourage wear as well... So maybe we were right about her entering Anne's service !!! Anyway, Tamla's beautiful !
It's a gorgeous photo ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it does look that way with Constance doesn't it, the window behind her looks like it could be the palace too. She looks slightly concerned over something, I wonder what she's witnessing :o
So excited to see some new pics! The boys look so great. I have missed them. And Constance so lovely - dressed up????!!!! Ha. Definitely. She must have a new job. =) With the cardinal dead, Bonacieux lost his new income, so I doubt they suddenly have money.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comments posted earlier about Capaldi vs Warren. Much more excited about Warren than I ever was about Capaldi. Also the Rochefort character has always appealed to me a bit more than the cardinal. So I am greatly excited about the shift. I just wish the show had a better more mature story line than "Surprise, he's dead!"
Speaking of death, Constance doesn't look to be in mourning...maybe she isn't at court with Anne then. Hhhmm.
It's hard to date when Constance's photo was taken unfortunately as there's no information on it, but it may be a fairly recent one when the period of mourning is over, or she may not have had to observe it? They certainly are being very careful with what they do show us aren't they, and you can't blame them really I guess. She does look stunning though doesn't she :D
ReplyDeleteI agree that Rochefort is definitely a more exciting character, I kinda get the feeling that Marc will playing a bit of a con on the Musketeers from what we have seen/heard about it so far, which is something I know he will pull off very well. Really looking forward to seeing him in action, and I know there's been a lot of excitement about his casting in the fandom online too, really S2 can't come quick enough! lol
True. They are being very careful, but I'm just thankful for what we get! S2 CAN'T come quick enough at all! I've ventured into other series since the finale to help past the time. My weekly Game of Thrones indulgence has not been enough. Shameful to admit, I know, but I only just watched Downton. After falling in love with the first two series, I'm now all in the dismals over the last bit. That show took quite a turn, didn't it? These pictures cheered me up greatly! Come on, series 2!
ReplyDeleteMe too, Jessica is brilliant to post the pictures, she's fab at interacting with the fans so we're very lucky to have her on the show :D
ReplyDeleteI never got in to Downton I'm afraid, I did try a couple of episodes because I do love Maggie Smith, but it just wasn't my thing. I'm watching Orphan Black atm, season 2 is fantastic so far, and In The Flesh is back on BBC3 on Sunday. I loved the first couple of episodes of GoT but the last couple have only been ok for me, still better than a lot of television but I think as a book reader I'm not preferring them over the tv series at present. There's only a couple of episodes of Reign left and then that's done for this season, though that's had it's low points too. Atlantis and Doctor Who are back in 4-5 months though, then Musketeers will be back once they are done, that's what I keep telling myself XD
Newbie here - been lurking for some time but thought it was about time I contributed! Thank you for compiling Sandi - it's making the hiatus more bearable! :)
ReplyDeleteHey there Helen, welcome to the gang! Always good to meet a new fan:) You're welcome, it's good that we have somewhere to continue chatting during the hiatus too, the photos from Jessica, Luke & Howard were pretty intriguing this week.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the welcome Sandi! Yes, so good to have those photos coming in and definitely gets us speculating over what to expect in S2. Let's hope the photos keep coming - Jessica has been really good to us so far!
ReplyDeleteShe has, couldn't have a better producer on the show for interacting with the fans :D I'm hoping that we'll get some of Marc, Hugo, Maimie, Anne and Louis next time, though I doubt we'll get to hear anything about the fate of the pregnancy at this point...I'm still leaning towards her miscarrying atm, Anne did lose a child in rl around 1631 and I've still not really reconciled the affair in my mind anyway :(
ReplyDeleteJessica Pope's latest twitter pic of Constance might be of interest, she appears to be wearing a more 'up market' dress, although we don't know whether she's attending an important event or whether it's day-to-day wear. Either way, it appears that Bonacieux might be a more wealthy man by series 2 - because the contract he got from the Cardinal might have remained - which could give Constance greater connections.
ReplyDeleteJessica's latest twitter pic of d'Artagnan is lovely, he's becoming a handsome boy.
I think you could be right about her miscarrying, especially as we know she did lose a child around 1631. It's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out next season! Yes, definitely could do with some photos of the others too! I haven't seen Marc in anything before but it sounds like he is going to be a very positive addition to the show.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics from Jessica Pope last week. Everyone looks great. Like Tigercheetah, I'm intrigued by Constance's look in the photo. The collar is certainly very suggestive of court attire, however her shoulders appear to be uncovered which isn't a look they've gone for with the Queen's Ladies in Waiting up to this point. The collar is also much smaller than the ladies in waiting would generally wear. Perhaps it is indeed an event which she is attending, perhaps not at the Palace but elsewhere. Bonacieux did tout to D'Artagnan that he was the purveyor of fine silks and fabrics to the nobility. With the death of the Cardinal, he'll need a new heavy hitting client/benefactor. We've now got Rochefort floating about, although judging by the photo we've seen so far, fancy fabrics don't seem to be a priority for him. Lol. Milady of course, is also still on the scene.
ReplyDeleteThe image could also (fingers crossed) indicate that Constance has been hired as a seamstress to Her Majesty. Either way, it has the potential to be good news for her character and get her back in the action. She looks absolutely beautiful in the pic but as others have mentioned, more than a bit forlorn and distressed. Has she seen or heard something she wished she hadn't? Could she have spotted Milady? Could she be facing a painful reunion with her Musketeer? Seen him, or heard news of him which causes her distress? Something has clearly upset and/or disturbed her. Can't wait to find out what it is. Loving D'Artagnan's look too. He really is maturing into an incredibly handsome man, with a bit more facial hair this time it seems. Porthos and Athos look to be back in the thick of things
Not really a filming update, but a bit of news. Santiago will be playing at Soccer Aid next month at Old Trafford, more details here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27291513
ReplyDeleteNew photo from the lovely Jessica :D
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/PopeJessica/status/463790462520655874/photo/1
Ooooooooh. Goodness. Forgive me while I pick my jaw up from the floor. Who is this seductive gaze for, I wonder? Anne? Constance? Porthos? Sandi?? Ha.
ReplyDeleteThis might have just made me day. Come oooooooon, series 2!!!!
https://twitter.com/BBCOne/status/464030258472046592
I agree. Angry Porthos is not to be crossed. Loveable Porthos is to be hugged...and often.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing indeed Sunny. Not sure it's so much "seductive" as more than a bit scary. Wonder if he might have met Milady? We know she likes her brooding, dangerous types. He looks great though. I can't wait to see how this all plays out next year.
ReplyDeleteYou're right that it will be tricky to put her anywhere near The Musketeers given Athos' pledge to kill her without hesitation. That's one if the reasons I was amazed by Ryan Gage's tweet that he had been filming scenes with her. How the heck she gets anywhere near the King, I await with interest. I know she's described a a woman with a thousand faces but still, not literally! I think she will, at least initially, be a behind the scenes criminal mastermind. It's possible that Rochefort and perhaps others become her surrogates. He is described as having dark secrets. I wouldn't be surprised that Milady may know what they are and on the principle that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, the two may hook up in their mutual pursuit of vengeance. I just hope that if the King is being lured further towards the dark side, that we start to see the Queen developing her own power base. Anne of Austria was extensively involved in Palace intrigue and had her own allies. This version of Anne will need all the friends she can get.
ReplyDeleteTrue. I would hope though that Rochefort is a bit more independent. While I started to enjoy Milady towards the end of the series, I did not find her or the Cardinal truly villainous. Warren's pics have me so excited that we might get some of that with his character. I don't mind seeing some collaboration, but I hope that he is dangerous and volatile on his own.
ReplyDeleteThat would be quite interesting for Louis. Honestly, I can't picture Gage becoming too dark, but he is so great at what he does, he could surprise me.
I think we'll get bags of real menace, danger and volatility from him. Warren oozes it. I also can't see him being easily manipulated by anyone. On the contrary, I think he'll be much more likely to be the manipulator. He's that leather combination of charm and villainy that can attract to destroy.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the King is unlikely to become too dark but he is deeply flawed, weak and easily manipulated. In the absence of the Cardinal, he could be easy prey for someone with cruel and criminal intent. If the Queen also looses the much hoped for heir (all be it a genetically questionable one lol) he may grow increasingly frustrated and alienated from the wiser counsel of his Queen and even more susceptible to the vultures.
And I thought the first pic was good....yikes. Scoobie, BBC must have read your comment questioning the "seductive" description. They have removed it and labeled him a dangerous villain instead...charming though. Must remember charming. Not getting charming from this pic at all. ;)
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/BBCOne/status/464105801183805440
Combining both terms "charm" and "seductive," I'm beginning to wonder if our dear Rochefort will indeed be after the ladies. Someone needs to warn him that all our ladies be spoken for!
ReplyDeleteMaybe she's a villain too? That would be interesting. I would hope that she would be more substantial than a love interest. Adding a maid or court figure or love interest just to have more females on the show bothers me. Just give her something to do!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree Sunny. They've had criticism, rightly or wrongly, about their depiction of women and in particular their lack of a meaningful function beyond being an accessory to the males. Part of the appeal of Constance is that you feel there's so much more to her than that. Ironically, I loved the early Constance when we saw the fire and spirit in her. I was actually growing weary of "poor Constance" by the end of the series. It really is time for her to get her fight back as promised. I don't want to see her pained, isolated and heartbroken, or jealous and sidelined in series two. Strength was also part of the appeal of Ninon. I also hate the idea that the women might exist only to be jealous of each other or threatened by each other's presence. Let's see some female bonding and let's see some character growth and sense of purpose. As you rightly say, it shouldn't be about making up the numbers but about serving the story and driving it forward, not subverting it, or keeping it in a perpetual holding pattern.
ReplyDeleteCheers Sunny :D What a typical Marc Warren cocky/warning "don't push it" look that is, but with the Musketeers facial hair it's even more adorable! As Marc, I just wanna give those cheeks a lil squeeze, but as Rochefort I'm staying well clear, do not wanna get caught up in his diabolic schemes, no sir ree bob! XD
ReplyDeleteI'm very excited by these new photos! :DD I had been wondering if the earlier get up we had seen him in was an act to fool the Musketeers maybe, and now he has perhaps broken away and is showing his true colours? In the books he is mainly tied to Milady and D'Artagnan, and eventually Constance, I wonder if they will stick with that or have him take over a more courtly role to fill the Cardinal's shoes.
ReplyDeleteI kind of hope that Louis and Anne break further apart if I'm honest, which would mean that Louis would need someone else to lean on for support in order to run the country. Let's face it, he doesn't really have much of a clue there himself, he'd rather go hunting than sort out politics, lol.
It wouldn't surprise me if he and Marguerite come as a package, he must have an end game in place before arriving in Paris I guess and could she could part of achieving that?
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I thought he looked a bit hurt/sad as well as angry in this shot, like he was being betrayed or something?
ReplyDeleteI thought of this as well! I could see that. He has to have allies somewhere...not just milady.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, when I saw these pics I had a "who needs Capaldi" moment. Ha. So excited! He looks so dashing and dastardly with his new haircut.
Haha, I had exactly the same thought! I think he will fit in far better than Capaldi did tbh, far more dashing! I loved the old look he had but this new one is very acceptable too, like yourself I am very excited for S2 after seeing these ;))
ReplyDeleteA separation for reasons other than Aramis/baby would be nice. No that he shouldn't be included. I just would prefer an Anne with reasons other than that. Although I don't know if I could handle a permanent breach as Louis' reaction to her being safe from harm last season just about killed me! Oh, Gage. :)
ReplyDeleteI think Warren/Rochefort would be a much more menacing influence to the king that the cardinal just didn't have last series. Maybe he could have given more time, but I guess we will never know.
And, yes, to the hunting. Birds are for shooting after all, right? Ha.
Yes, to the facial hair! Adorable. And we needed a blonde on the show! ;)
ReplyDeleteMuch as I love Peter Capaldi, friends have said that they thought his portrayal of the Cardinal was a bit panto at times and I certainly think there was a tongue in cheek element, which you tend to get with flamboyant characters. I absolutely believe we'll get a much edgier, arguably more believable villain from Marc Warren and I'm really looking forward to that. I also love the idea that Rochefort and Marguerite could be a package. Perhaps she too has been taken in by his charm, or is taken in by him over the course of the series. If she is at Court and Constance also finds herself there, the two might become friends and Constance could find herself being manipulated by one or both of them. If she and D'Artagnan are reunited over the course of the series, she may confide her relationship at some point, to Marguerite, or it may be discovered or deduced by her. She may then intentionally or unintentionally reveal it to Rochefort. We know that he and D'Artagnan have a highly combative relationship. It would be a bit disappointing, although certainly in keeping with The Three Musketeers, if Constance ended the series in jeopardy once again. Although in the novel, she was a permanent damsel in distress. Sadly, I think Rochefort is also linked to the burning down if the Musketeers Garrison, which takes the life of Treville. I don't even want to contemplate that concept.
ReplyDeleteYes, someone really needs to be dripping poison in his ear, the Cardinal was always after the best for the country, which I think worked for S1 but I'd like to see more conflict in the palace building up. The 30 years war was going on at the time but was barely mentioned in S1, so it would be nice to get some of that and how the defeats are effecting relationships in too maybe. Perhaps Rochefort has fled the battle and that is how he ends up in court, that could be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think Marc can be a bit panto at times too, but I really am hoping that the beeb have given them a proper TX time to aim for and they have gone a little darker with season 2 so that we don't end up with those kinds of issues. I can certainly see this Rochefort as someone who manipulates the ladies into doing his bidding by charming and flattering them, with a good "poor old me" story and puppy dog eyes to back it up, it's what Marc can be very good at after all.
ReplyDeleteGawd, I don't want to think about the show without Hugo Speer in it, he really does look after the Musketeers well and I don't want another taking on that role :( lol
This photo is now my desktop btw, sorry Aramis :p lol
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!!! Aramis can return next year after we have given up Rochefort due to his dastardly, roguish ways. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes! Or maybe a nice shot of them both duelling ;)
ReplyDeleteOoooh, nice. I wonder if he will get a hat....
ReplyDeleteHe *needs* a hat!! I will use photoshop if I have to..... XD
ReplyDeleteI didn't mind heartbroken Constance towards the end of series 1 - it showed how much she loved D'artagnan and as Tamla herself said, Constance is hard on the outside but soft on the inside, she's still a human being with vulnerabilities - but now that we've reached series 2, you're right that her strong side needs to be more prominant, so that clear development is happening.
ReplyDeleteI found her heartache very moving and affective in "The Challenge". Personally, the 30 second reunion and rapid re-break up in the final episode were unnecessary overkill for me. Once would have been enough and I actually think that had they held them together until the final episode, the enforced parting would have been even more powerful but hey ho, that's done. Onward and hopefully upward.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that video did mention that Luke got a new horse so that's a possibility too. In the book the horse he came to Paris on was a old nag which was a strange colour, most people ribbed him over it bless him, so they could bring that up :)
ReplyDeleteI hope they bring up the duelling thing too, it was mainly D'Artagnan that he had the closest relationship with, they became friends of sorts towards the end of the books, though he did kill Rochefort later on in a duel in Twenty Years Later iirc.
"You traitor !" lol I'm the only one with an Aramis ico now ;) lol
ReplyDeleteYes I thought about that possibility too. That maybe in the first episode he will have his more "dirty" look, with his torn outfit, playing an act of some sort, maybe seemingly seeking help, and then he'll reveal his true self, revealing a more highborn origin, as the Compte de Rochefort IDK. Or, (second theory lol) he is from a totally different backgroung than in the original story (even if we don't really know much about his past either in the books) and maybe he is taken out of prison to serve the purpose of a highter power. Or he escapes. lol I'm digressing here I think. But that's what his change of outfit inspires me ^^
ReplyDeleteAww, sorry hun. It was nearly a Nikolaj one a few weeks ago, and it will probably be a Doctor Who one before S2 too :(
ReplyDeleteHaaaa... Nikolaj =D I can't say I'm not with you here ;)

ReplyDeleteA couple more photographs added by the wonderful, Jessica Pope! I notice Constance is back in her normal daywear. Nice to have a photo of Hugo too!

https://twitter.com/PopeJessica/status/464882986971058176/photo/1
Nice pictures! thanks, Helen! Loving the shot of Speer. He looks more unkempt than usual. I like it! And Constance has bangs this series. I love her hair.
ReplyDeleteI hope the pics they keep releasing do a better job of promoting the show. It would be wonderful if series 2 premieres to a larger more excited crowd. I try to recruit new fans all the time!
Thanks Helen. I'm with you Sunny, loving the photo of Treville. I'd be very pleased to see him more involved in the action in series two. Maybe he and Rochefort have some history. I'm also loving the look. Unkempt definitely works for him. Once again Constance looks luminously beautiful but seems pained and sad. It's been a while now since we saw that joyous smile. It would appear we're set for more angst. On the plus side Tamla plays it beautifully. Hard to tell the setting of her pic but it could be the Garrison or the square where she lives possibly? These are perfect little teasers.
ReplyDeleteCheers Helen, gotta love Jessica, she is doing a grand job with all these photos :D
ReplyDeleteI wonder what Treville is up to, that one has me quite intrigued actually, I wanna know who he's talking to, lol. And Constance is looking pretty wistful too, hmm.
It would be cool if they did a few short minisodes online or something before it aired, or something like that to get people's interest. I think Marc Warren will draw people in too though. Gah, every time there are new photos I find myself wanting S2 to be here NOW!! lol
ReplyDeleteHas the BBC done that kind of thing before ? Something like mini episodes before the next season to come ? That would be so awesome !
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Treville looks really good here ! I'm intrigued... We haven't seen him without his uniform perfectly buttonned once during 1st season lol I'd love to see pictures of the King and Queen ! They are the only characters missing now ! (Jessica Pope, if you read us ... lol)
ReplyDeleteThey've done them for other shows like Doctor Who & Sherlock, Being Human on BBC Three also had a few one year.
ReplyDeleteHo... So there's hope ;)
ReplyDeleteI really hope so, something to explain the Cardinal's death or Rochefort before he comes to Paris would be nice, or maybe a couple of small sketches of the lads in the barracks or on missions would be ideal imo!
ReplyDeleteYou have the best ideas ever ! That would both make the fans more at peace about the Cardinal being "just dead" news and maybe set things up with Rochefort, to "ignite" the fans interest (IDK how to put it differently)
ReplyDeleteIs there a BBC's idea box somewhere ?? lol
Hehe, I was thinking it might be worth tweeting Jessica and asking her if it's something they might do. It would ofc depend on budgets, etc.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you'll get an answer =D !
ReplyDeleteI will give it a go, it's worth a shot I guess :D
ReplyDeleteIt's had a few favourites and RT's already, so hopefully she will see the message from one of us :D
ReplyDeleteNice ! ^^
ReplyDeleteWe haven't see one of Milady...right? Unless I have missed it...but I doubt they show too much of her anyway as not to give her plot(s) away.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right ! I'd like to see a picture of her as well !
ReplyDeleteMe too, one Charlotte Salt would be cool too, and one of the King & Queen together would be fab!
ReplyDeleteHere's one of D'Artagnan and Constance that Jessica has just tweeted thou :)
https://twitter.com/PopeJessica/status/465945759381082112
I think Jessica has a thing for luke... She's always posting pictures of him lol
ReplyDeleteConstance and d'Artagnan are really close in that picture btw... I know that will make some people very happy lol It is a pretty photograph, but for next time, I'd rather have a group picture or one of other characters ;) Or an "action" one lol
That's a super photo of D'Artagnan and Constance - thank you Sandi and Jessica! Definitely, could do with a photograph of Charlotte Salt. They don't seem to be giving anything away about her role - I wonder why :) Also, the King & Queen and Milady would be very nice! Thanks Sandi for posting. LuckyNumberSLVN - yes, it does look like Jessica has a thing for Luke! Lol
ReplyDeleteThe only thing about the photo that concerns me is that D'Artagnan seems to doing that hurt/questioning gaze deep into her eyes thing. I really could do without too much shippery angst in S2, especially is Constance's husband is still around... Meh, guess it's a wait and see situation.
ReplyDeleteYes, she does seem to favour Luke, and Tom a little too I think at times. Well, we all have our favourites, so can't really say too much there I guess, lol ;)
They are super quiet about Charlotte, which does make me think that she will be more of a villain than an innocent party, though maybe I am over thinking it, lol. Jessica has complimented her on Twitter this evening saying that she's very talented and beautiful, but still been careful not to give anything away. We're probably just being too eager for information and we will get more later in the year when they actually start promoting it. I want to know who will be replacing the Cardinal too, there must be someone who becomes the King's first minister (so to speak) surely?
ReplyDelete(damn straight I have a favorite ! I need pictures too ! lol)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about "that hurt/questioning gaze deep into her eyes thing" lol perfect choice of words ;) I could do without too much of that as well, buuuuut.... I think it is a lost cause. I actually think we'll get even more of that in season 2, to be honest.
"To get me through the rainy week" as Jessica said, I'd rather have a group picture of the guys, or a confrontation between them and Rochefort thatwouldbecooool (even though it would be too "spoilery" lol)
Can't say that this picture of Constance and d'Artagnan is a spoilery one, that's for sure ! lol
Don't get me wrong, I know (trust me, I know) that a lot of fans are watching the show for the couples, and even though it is something I like as well, for a new season I'd like something alse to help me through the hiatus =D
I think this is the first shippy photo? So I can't really complain, I think their fans deserve one after the other photos we have had the last few weeks. I think you may be right that there will be more between them, but as Scoobie has said before, I hope they don't play around with the fans feelings too much. The fast get togethers and break ups at the end of last season were bad enough for them.
ReplyDeleteHopefully we will get an action photo next, though as you say, they could get quite spoilery, and they are being careful with them aren't they :( lol. So maybe Milady, or a funny King Louis and Queen Anne one bts, that would be cool :D
Yes I think this is the first couple picture for season 2, I was talking about Jessica's posts during the first season ^^
ReplyDeleteI don't mind romantic plots in TV shows (I really enjoy them as a matter of fact !), I just want the writing to follow, to not be left aside to let even more space to couples and "shipping things". I've seen it before, and it ruins everything for me :(
Here's a photo from Luke's Instrgram that might cheers you up a little, he and Santiago have been playing football. I assume as practice for Soccer Aid which Santiago is taking part in later this month.
ReplyDeletehttp://i.imgur.com/NOTbRhO.png
I do like a bit of emotional D'artagnan..... :)
ReplyDeleteHowever, as much as I love D'artagnan/Constance, I do hope his development as a Musketeer is more central in series 2 and that he gets some good scenes with Roachfort and maybe even King Louis.
Apparently in the initial episode 1 script ( for series 1 ) Louis seemed to recognise the name 'd'Artagnan' as the list of murder charges was read out to Athos, though he couldn't place where he'd heard the name before. I wonder if Adrian Hodges has dropped this element completely? It might have involved a bit of backstory regarding d'Artagnan's father.
Ho that's so nice of you to link this ! Thank you ! That does cheer me up indeed =D
ReplyDeleteOh that's interesting, perhaps they were going to make his father more than a mere farmer originally?
ReplyDeleteI hope they continue his development too, with Rochefort cast I'm pretty confident that they will. As for the romance, you know I'm personally not so interested in that side of things, but all I really want is for it to be handled better than it was in S1. It didn't exactly build in a satisfying way on both sides before that scene where they were ripping each others clothes off, more flirting around each other is needed imo, as is sorting out the husband situation. But all without too much angst involved, and no triangles, lol.
Thought you might like ;) I wish I could go to the match but unfortunately I can't, it will be shown on ITV thou.
ReplyDeleteI can't either because... well, I live in France lol
ReplyDeleteSad times :( lol
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, I forgot about Charlotte Salt. I might have remembered her if they promoted her character more! Ha. I think if she was a complete innocent, we would have had a pic of her being chummy with the queen.
ReplyDeleteAs far as this new pic, I think the important bits to take away from this are the locale and Constance's hair. Looks pretty fancy to me. I holding out for an Anne/Constance friendship!
Ha! Those pics would be awesome! But I doubt we get them...if only...I'm ready for a hat pic, personally.
ReplyDeleteI think these pics are funny. Something familiar and something completely random all in one. Like Treville....that pic was loaded with intrigue! Or Athos in the brush...ha. Or the one where Rochefort appears to be showing off his sleeves to the guys. I'm always so happy to see everyone yet so confused about everything else. :)
But Sandi....Constance and d'Artagnan don't flirt. They either rip clothes off or break up. No time for flirting. That's Aramis' job. ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, I think we can safely say from the photo, that the chemistry is as strong as ever. He still looks at her like she's the last cold drink of water in the desert. I tend to agree though that the focus should be on action and adventure in series two. I really don't want to see more emotional torture for these two. I actually think given the amount if angst to date, yet more could be a turn off, not just for Constagnan fans but for everyone. They could quite easily conduct an illicit relationship which we knew of and understood, which then wasn't a constant focus but which allowed the story to move on and the two of them to be acknowledged as a couple among their friends. The relationship could then be used, perhaps by their enemies, when it would propel the action, rather than drag it into soap opera territory, or hold it back. Obviously we can't see Constance's face but it does look like an intimate moment and from the photo it seems that once again D'Artagnan is being drawn to the fire.
ReplyDeleteStill, no photo of "Marguerite". The mystery continues...
Honestly though, I was rewatching some of season 1 earlier this month, and while I agree with you about the build up and break ups, I'm glad the writers kept them apart for season 2 rather than being together and playing house. I think it will be/make a better story that will, hopefully, redeem them in season 1. Like you, I don't watch a show for romance, but I really enjoy it when it is meaningful as an important part of an overall story....rather than romance for the sake of romance. I think there is a chance for this couple to be written that way. If so, I look forward to seeing it.
ReplyDeleteI don't seem to be getting mails through for all the replies in this thread for some reason the last few days, keep noticing new posts that I haven't seen before :s Something has gone a bit screwy I think.
ReplyDeleteDo we know for sure that Charlotte Salt is at court, or is it still just a guess based on her corset tweet? I was wondering if she could be a love interest for Treville perhaps (a guess from his photo that he may have a love interest this year), someone to keep him off guard so that Rochefort could undermine the Musketeers without him interfering? Though, I guess she could do both of those roles at once.
Haha, Aramis flirts and plays with his hat, D'Artagnan rips corsets and has cute puppy dog eyes, got it! lol
