The Mentalist - Season 7 - Warner Bros looking to other networks

Apr 24, 2014

Sources tell EW that studio Warner Bros. is shopping a seventh season of The Mentalist to other networks just in case CBS doesn’t renew the show before its fall schedule presentation to advertisers next month. We’re hearing the studio has spoken to both broadcast and cable networks about picking up the drama, which is being pitched as a series with a creative fresh start due to its recent story reboot. One obvious potential landing place would be TNT, since it airs past seasons of the The Mentalist in syndication.

  2. OMG Season 7!

  3. Could TNT even afford new episodes? Aren't shows this old usually extremely expensive?

  4. the Men7alist, TNT plz!!!!! *cross fingers*

  5. The show would have to slash costs big time to make The Mentalist feasible for cable. Shopping the show around as a contingency plan is not a good sign for the future of the series.

  6. Always hopeful.

  7. Slash the budget as in get rid of the entire cast besides Simon Baker. If they want a fresh start, Patrick Jane goes back to being a charlatan but still ends up solving crimes because it is now part of his DNA. No more working for the CBI, FBI, or any other law enforcement.

That being said, 6 seasons is a long time for a show and TNT is not exactly airing TM all that often or at desirable times.

  8. well...not a huge Mentalist fan myself but that's sure interesting. Not a good sign mind you but interesting.

I wish FOX would've done that with Angel....or Dean Devlin with Leverage

  9. They won't reboot the show one season after basically rebooting the show.

  10. I don't watch this show so I don't have a horse in the race here, but the Mentalist has done decently in a tough time-slot, often growing out of its lead-in. I feel bad for the fans and hope it lands another season somewhere.

  11. You must be thrilled that it may have a chance after all! I see you everywhere that The Mentalist is in the title, doing free promotional work for the series! :P

  12. Wasn't Angel a show from the WB?

  13. Buffy and Angel were produced at FOX and sold to theWB (and later UPN)

  14. This sounds like there's a glimmer of hope for our show, my Mentalistas.

  15. Wish they had ended the Red John debacle in Jan of 2013 or even earlier .This way the new stroyline would have had a change to be embraced by more people. I honestly don't think they would be on the bubble if the had done it that way..

  16. It depends on what failsApril 24, 2014 at 11:58 PM

Calling it: it'll be TNT if it gets a deal.

Warner owns TNT, TNT broadcasts it on syndication and none of the other 4 networks needs it.

Also, it is a fit for basic cable.

  17. Completely agree that they won't reboot the show, I was just pitching my idea lol.

  18. Oh, okay. It's certainly a cost-effective strategy and interesting to see him being more morally ambiguous again. Your idea, however, might upset all those shippers who make up a large chunk of the viewership.

  19. I'd love to see it continue somewhere, anywhere, but wonder how feasible it is. The show is only on TNT a couple times a week at 1 or 2AM. It used to be on a few times a week in the afternoon.
I'm hopeful, but totally unaware of how the industry works.

  20. I would definitely subscribe to a cable company if The Mentalist is renewed on a cable network! I hope it gets renewed, I don't care on what network! CBS CAN'T appreciate an exquisite show like this one.

  21. I am very happy that the producer of Warner has not abandoned the idea of stopping Mentalist. Now we need to find a string that can take Mentlaist in its grid but I think with the large popularity of the series in the world and the most watched series should find a buyer, then I hope so.
It is my wish as it deserves to continue despite the end of Red John

  22. Simon baker is a great actor and could make it work on any budget..lol...I love the show and hope it's picked up by any network. I watch loads of shows and it has had a much stronger season than many of the other long running shows this year.

  23. How is this 'not a good sign'? Everyone knows by now that TM is done on CBS barring a miracle. 'Not a good sign' would be WB accepting its fate and just letting it die - which, given the show's age, they could've easily done. At least this is a bit of hope, more than we've had in a while.
