A promo is supposed to entice you to watch but this does the exact opposite.
It looks old and tired alread, with no novelty at all other than the 'wow' factor of there being five monster failies in Chicago.
Too little to keep anyone's interest and I'm afraid the main character does nothing for me. When I think back to the charismatic Gordon Walker and Victor Hendriksen, there is no comparison.
Anyway, I don't have a Neilsen box so my opinion counts for nothing, but this is Carver we're talking about.
He has totally ruined SPN and the Winchesters, there's no way he can come up with a decent show.IMO.
I agree but I felt The Originals would feel tired, and while the pilot was meh by episode two I loved it. So I'll give this a chance. SPN itself feels tired to me so I hope the actual show offers something more.
He can disapprove of parts of the show while enjoying others. Which is basically what I do, this show has run for 9 years for gods sake. But that doesn't mean it doesn't kind of suck even if it's still semi enjoyable. :)
I don't really compare that character to Gordon and Victor. They're all black, but otherwise they are very different actors and characters.
Nothing I've seen of the actor has done a lot for me, but I can't compare him to those guys, it wouldn't be fair to him or to them. He's so much younger.
The weird part is I think that bar set was in the infamous dog episode last season (Man's Best Friends With Benefits). I would laugh if she showed up. Of course she's in Genoa City now.
It looks better than I thought, but it doesn't look fantastic. We will see.
He is the main reason I'm not looking forward to this spinoff. He is an awful actor, and after seeing him in celebrity big brother it's going to be very difficult to get behind him and support him as a main character. He was a tool.
Looks great! Happy to see a few frames of Nate, his character interests me the most. Though I also liked the scene with Sean Faris. Can't wait for this ep!
You find it semi-enjoyable, and critiquing the show is fine. Isle appears to find nothing enjoyable about the show from all the posts I've seen. Which brings the question why would someone watch something that brings them no pleasure?
People were going to turn their noses up regardless which is unfortunate. I think people need to have a bit more open minds. Personally, it looks fantastic.
It doesn't look bad. Well, no worse than some of what SPN has thrown out in the past. If it sucks then it only wasted 42 minutes and if it doesn't then its a potential new show to watch.
Maybe a lot of that stems from frustration with the seemingly lack of movement on SPN. I do hope this show doesn't suffer the consequences of that frustration.
Not making judgements until I actually see the episode. It sounds interesting to me, since I don't watch the Originals or Vampire Diaries, I can't compare it either of those shows. I am not going into with any expectations, I will just enjoy the episode, just like I enjoy every SN episode. I am loving SN right now and always, so I am sure this episode will be great, no matter who is in charge of the show.
I will watch the first few eps of this, IF it gets picked up, but I am afraid it will be like Secret Circle and have to many characters to connect with any of them. I really wanted to like SC. :(
That's the vibe I got too. Which worked for the TVD spin off. But I don't like it being a Supernatural spin-off. It should have been it's own show. I feel like this show would have never fit into "old" Supernatural (Season 1 − 5, even 6 and 7).
I myself have been really excited about the spin-off since hearing about it last year. I have been really surprised by the community reaction, though! People seem so keen to throw it under the bus without even seeing an episode?
We're basing it off summaries and the feel of the promo. It could totally surprise us, but if it's written anything like Supernatural the past 2 years, it won't.
Technically they wanted another season (Syfy) but the show didn't have the funding it needed to have another season so they finished in one.
I think Fricke did most of the overlooking of the writing on BH. The characters were consistent and the friendship stayed great. (Either that or Carver hid his talent of showrunner from us. He wrote great episodes in Season 3-5 but totally changed everything on its head for the worst starting Season 8).
Gonna give it a try as well, but if you thought the show version of Secret Circle had a lot of characters, in the books the circle was 13 witches instead of 6 so it was already reduced =)
I was very bored with the last season of BH and had stopped watching when I heard it was going to end, just recorded the last 6 eps to binge watch. If the first part of the season had been as good as the last 6 eps, it might have stayed around. Loved the last. I was never a fan of Aidan(Sam Witwer)
Not throwing it under a bus, just don't think the people behind it have much faith in the series,or they would not have to use Supernatural in the title. I will give it a few eps to see how it goes.
Don't waste your time asking why, last season was just the same, and next season will also be the same, instead of stopping to watch what some no longer enjoy they continue to watch and complain rather loudly.
If that's just gaining attention or if they truly think someone would care about what they have to whine about, who knows? Who cares?
Maybe they think if they complain long enough the show will magically turn into what they want...again who cares?
Those complainers yet unable to stop watching what they hate now, exist in every fandom, and everywhere they're equally funny, in a way.
There is nothing more hateful and sour about a francise than an ex-fan.
I always wondered if those people have too much time on their hands, first wasting time to watch what they hate even before the first frame is on air, and then taking the time flooding fansites with their hate.
It's mostly boilerplate complaints. That people are using this to bash Carver, when he has little to no involvement, says it all. I have mixed feelings about it myself but when I hear about how it's going to taint SPN and make a mockery of it, I cringe.
Honestly, I kinda resent that one of Supernatural's few remaining eps is being used for this spin-off when I'm much more interested in what's going on with the main show. I might have had a different reaction if there hadn't already been so many filler eps this season or they had moved the mytharchs further, or even if they had added another ep to this season to allow for this spin-off but they didn't do any of that. With that out of the way, of course, I'm going to watch the ep and see what's what. At this point, the premise doesn't really seem that interesting and I don't know any of the characters so I have no idea if I'll be watching it. I do, however, try to give a new show a few eps before I decide anything so maybe they will make it something interesting to me. Bottom line, we'll see.
I don't understand how it fits at all since wouldn't the boys motto be, kill them all? Opps, no more monster families, lol. I'll definitely check it out though. For no reason that it's Supernatural and it's got Nate aka Kol from TVD/TO.
Is Nate's character a shapeshifter? It looks like he morphes into an older looking man in his first few frames. That's a shame, shapeshifters in SPN are nasty. The episode Skin still gives me the heebie jeebies. Their creepy OG shapeshifter guy in season six that was posing as random women's husbands so that he could knock them up was gross too.
It would have likely been another stand alone episode anyways. Episode 20 in the past seasons has been mixed. Sometimes they were more stand alone than myth-arc filled. The episodes didn't usually have much of the myth-arc involved, just bits and pieces.
Very rarely and it's usually in an extreme case where they believe they won't ever hurt anyone. Several monster families fighting to control a city? Yeah, they'd kill all those moofoo's no doubt, lol. But I'll reserve judgement till I see it. :D Supernatural with the Winchesters has been on for a very long time and I have no doubt it's going to be canceled soon, so I look forward to seeing a spin off so it can continue somehow, even if it's without my boys and Cas and Crowley, etc, etc.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
This looks only, "ok" at best but I'll watch it next week and render a verdict then.

So it's The Originals?
ReplyDeleteExcept that Andrew Dabb is running things not Carver.
ReplyDeleteHere's a novel idea, if the show is so ruined for you just stop watching.
I agree but I felt The Originals would feel tired, and while the pilot was meh by episode two I loved it. So I'll give this a chance. SPN itself feels tired to me so I hope the actual show offers something more.

ReplyDeleteThat's true, but Hellboy is right - Jeremy Carver has almost nothing to do with this show.

ReplyDeleteNot a fan of the Bloodlines premise, but i will try the episode and see if it is better than it sounds.

ReplyDeleteAs I said with the other promo: "Meh".
ReplyDeleteI like the song though. Any ideas what it is?
ReplyDeleteAnd they just cancelled his other show, Being Human.
ReplyDeleteI will watch the first few eps of this, IF it gets picked up, but I am afraid it will be like Secret Circle and have to many characters to connect with any of them. I really wanted to like SC. :(
ReplyDeleteThey have to use the SPN title because they don't think it can stand on its own. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat Just Pisses Me Off.

ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't a spin-off yes. Not so much to being a Supernatural spin-off.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to give it a try, but if it keeps the vibe it has so far, I won't be interested for long.

But then again, I don't care.
Yeah sometimes the show got iffy, but I always loved it overall and ALL the characters.
ReplyDeleteI did watch BBC BH and loved it until the original actors left then it went downhill FAST.

ReplyDeleteThey've let good monsters go before. It depends on the writers' moods. lol
ReplyDeleteI watched a bit of the BBC version and didn't like it.
ReplyDeleteIt would have likely been another stand alone episode anyways. Episode 20 in the past seasons has been mixed. Sometimes they were more stand alone than myth-arc filled. The episodes didn't usually have much of the myth-arc involved, just bits and pieces.

ReplyDeleteI watched the beginning.
