This week’s episode Revenge was okay at best. I just think the writers got themselves tangled up in storylines we don’t care for (Or at least that I don’t care for.) These storylines sidetrack Emily’s ultimate plan and most of them aren’t even entertaining. The Emily centric part of the episode was great, the Mason portion especially entertaining and it seemed to somewhat try and bring the story forward. The rest of “Blood”, namely the Margaux/Voulez/Daniel part of the episode was a drag.
The Voulez storyline has lasted long enough yet too much of the episode focused on it. I understand why it was introduced, to bring Pascal into the picture and give Emily someone new to take down, but is it the family drama really necessary? I also have absolutely no idea what Conrad is trying to do (start some media company, I guess) and I’m not sure I care anymore. He seems to always be there, a drink in his hand, but without real purpose. His only addition to the show is his snarky comments at Victoria. (Somebody enlighten me?) I am not enjoying the Daniel mooning over Margaux storyline. These Graysons need to realise that it is okay to be single for more than 5 minutes at a time. Yes, I’m talking to you too, Victoria.
Aiden having just woken up from a dream-sequence memory suggested he and Emily try something to get some answers, something they hadn’t tried and that he couldn’t do alone. I thought we were back to the torture/drowning method, that he was asking her to drown him to try and unlock some memories. Though my brain went there, I’m happy the writers didn’t. Emily and Aiden instead went to visit his mother to try and… I have no idea why they decided to go there in the first place but at least they didn’t come back empty handed. They have a new lead, Oscar Chapman, on their sideway quest to take down Pascal and bring justice to Aiden’s father. Let’s recap what we know about the Mathis, the father set the bomb on the plane when his daughter was kidnapped. He then shot himself and his daughter was killed, but they made it look like an overdose. Aiden went to revenge school to take revenge on his family and his mother is clueless to everything that has happened. In Aiden’s shoes I am not sure I would have told my mom, basically because mine would ask a whole lot more questions than his did. Is it just me or did she take the news a little too well?
When I saw the premise for this episode I was more than happy to see that Mason Treadwell would be returning. I have been wondering when he would get tired of waiting around in prison with only Emily’s word as proof that she would one day get him out, that she would one day confess to everything and exonerate him. After all he knows about her, he definitely shouldn’t be trusting her. For any outsider Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke must look borderline psychotic. I am happy they didn’t kill him off as another loose end from season 2 because frankly his storyline is the only that isn’t revenge related that I’m interested in. The cream spiked with ancient Japanese herbs was delightful and so Emily-esque I loved it.
I am really resenting the fact that Javier was introduced solemnly to give Charlotte something to do. I enjoyed the fact that we would get to see a Nolan friendship outside of the Emily circle, but I guess that’s out of the question now. He’ll probably side with Daniel and Emily will ultimately have to waist some time taking him down. (Though I think I would enjoy a Nolan takedown for this one. Come on, Ems probably has better fish to fry.)
(loved that line!)
Wow. I hadn’t realised how much I bashed this episode in this review, I'm usually more on the positive side of things. I still enjoyed watching the show but I need a good episode, soon. Please share your thoughts, I would be curious to know if I anyone fully enjoyed this episode.
Unrelated Questions I have lingering:
1. Do you think Emily will one day confess to everything she’s done? It would make for a bittersweet ending, don’t you think?
2. Happy that Stevie Grayson is leaving? (I guess I am because it’s one less side story to distract us from the main plot)
3. Is Jack in love with Emily? (Of course he is…)
