GN Resurrection Reviews"The thing is, when do we ever have a guarantee in this life? If I lose him (Jacob) tomorrow...at least I'll have had these days with him"
- Henry
There are only two episodes remaining this season for the mysterious ABC hit drama Resurrection. Two episodes to give us so many answers to the myriad of questions we have and two episodes to close what will hopefully be the first of many seasons. I like this show and wish ABC would renew it for another season because I feel there is so much more to this story they need to tell and many more avenues they can go down with respect to the 'returned' they can bring back. It looks like it is headed in that direction after getting a look at the 'episode seven' trailer for next week. I know I said I don't like trailers, but sometimes they look good and provide some useful information. Take a look at next week's promo and you will see what I mean.
Episode six deals, in part, with the ramification of Caleb's sudden and mystifying disappearance from his prison cell just a few feet from Marty last week. Sheriff Fred is seen obsessing over the surveillance feed of Caleb's cell to no end. He gains nothing from the video, other than seeing Caleb one second, then disappearing an instant later. I can only imagine that Caleb's whereabouts will be revealed to us in the finale and not a minute sooner.
Meanwhile, Marty and Maggie speak with Eric Ward, a scientist of the National Institute of Health, regarding the 'returned' with the intent of discovering the origin and cause. I had wondered since the first episode why the government has not been involved yet, as word of mouth grew. Even though Eric promised Marty and Maggie to keep Arcadia's spirited situation a secret, I have an uneasy feeling that the feds will rain down on the once quaint little town. He discovers a neat little fact about the 'returned' after performing a few mathematical functions. He tackles the issue like he would a virus. Where did it start? Where did it go next? If you look at the latitude of where the 'returned' reappeared and subtract the number 40 (the latitude of Arcadia), then divide by the number of years they were missing you get a constant value of .38. What that constant means we still do not know, but it is a neat little fact that tells us there is a correlation between the facts of their reappearance. Eric presumes that Jacob would be better off at his lab in Bethesda and offers the Langston's to come together so he can study Jacob further so he does not suffer the same fate as Caleb.
Rachael finally tells Tom that she is pregnant with his child and that does not come without its consequences. That new revelation does not sit well with Tom's wife, or for that matter, Helen, one of Tom's churchgoers we met a few episodes ago. At the next church service, Helen tells the congregation Tom and Rachael's secret and most of them leave as a result of losing faith in their pastor.
The episode ends with Henry telling Marty that the family will not be going to Bethesda, citing that their home is in Arcadia. We don't get to see him tell Eric this, but I suspect he will not be too happy about it. This is where I believe the feds will come to take Jacob away. Of course, I have been wrong in the past...a lot, lol. In the meantime, Gary, and a cop friend of his, abduct Rachael under the pretense that sheriff Fred needs her down at the station for questioning. They take her to a cabin in the woods by the river and, like an ominous warning to all, it begins to storm.
I thought the episode was a little slow at times and only offered a few more clues as to what is really going on with the mystery plaguing the town of Arcadia. We still have yet to meet Barbara, Sheriff Fred's wife that perished in the same incident as Jacob. Fred pulls out his wedding band and places it in its rightful "home" by his bedside. Maybe that scene was a bit of foreshadowing and we will see Barbara in the next episode? Either way, I really hope the pace picks up with the penultimate episode next week. It appears Arcadia will get a lot more 'returned' visitors, proving that Caleb was right, that this is all just the beginning.
Thoughts and Discussions
- Why does no one lose their mind when they are told that someone has come back from the dead? Eric just acts as if it is a natural thing that he needs to study.
- What does the constant, 0.38, mean? why is it significant?
- I know I asked this question last week, but I think it's important that we keep unanswered questions together. Where did Caleb go? Why did he suddenly disappear? What or who is the cause?
- Why did Gary and that cop kidnap Rachael? What are their plans for her?
- Before the finale I will post "Unanswered Questions" so they are all in one neat package. Why don't you list all the questions you would like to see in that post and I will compile them between now and the next episode's Review?
Thank you for checking out my Review! Please comment below so we can discuss the episode and show further!
Great Review George.
ReplyDeleteThe .38 theory was interesting and it will be interesting to see if they develop this further, I hope they do.
I felt sorry for pastor when people started to leave the church.
Some questions.
1) Why do they come back?
2) Are the ones who come back special?
3) What is the .38 ratio.
4) Where did Caleb go
5) Why can no one remember where they were?
6) Are the returned really the people who died or actually something/body else?
7) If someone who died in a horrific car crash came back, would they be horribly disfigured
8) Where have they been for all the years they were "dead"
"7) If someone who died in a horrific car crash came back, would they be horribly disfigured"
ReplyDeleteDon't know why I laughed so hard at this
Thank you! And great questions, thank you for that.
ReplyDeleteLike Samy down below, I too laughed when I read 7, but still a great question.
Your question #8 is the best.
Very interesting theory, but I'm afraid we won't find out until the finale.
ReplyDeleteWhat does the constant, 0.38, mean? why is it significant?
ReplyDeleteSurface gravity is measured in units of acceleration. Mars and Mercury have a surface gravity of 0.38
The elimination rate constant K is a value used in pharmacokinetics to describe the rate at which a drug is removed from the system.
Clearance= The volume of plasma cleared of the drug per unit time is 0.38 L/h
That's great info but I wonder it has to do with the
ReplyDeleteLoved the theory of parallel universes. It might answer why they have their memory intact, however it would not why they are returning on their funeral clothes. And how could they slide from one universe to another. Food for thought.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Time stopped the moment they died? Maybe Time does not exist where they "went"?
ReplyDeleteI like that idea, but doesn't explain a few things. Why would Rachel still be pregnant? Why would they not know about there other universe?
ReplyDeleteWell then only the time where they went because everyone has aged in Arcadia.. But I found pretty odd is that even after 32 years, Jacob's remains are were still there, as if he'd just died...
ReplyDeleteTime would have had to stop where they went...that would make sense that Jacob's shirt tag is brand new. That would also make sense that they are all the same age as when they passed away and they were all gone for different lengths of time.
ReplyDeleteWell, following that line of thought (that is more expanded usually in comics) they might have experienced the same history up to a divergent event (death). History unfolded there as it did before the divergent event here, and then they were slided to the present universe.Still doesn't explain the clothes thing, but I just thought the concept was cool.
ReplyDeleteYeah but the Jacob in the coffin and the one outside the coffin are different ones right? He can't be at 2 places at the same time...
ReplyDeleteUnless.. that'd be impossible but maybe Jacob really was in his coffin ( he maybe disappeared in reappeared in his coffin and he was sleeping so he didn't know....) => this show is too twisted for me lol.)
Both would be consistent with increased calorie intake and insomnia
ReplyDeleteFound this article talking about the use of colloids during resuscitation at a rate of 0.38-0.45

Lol, the concept is very cool. And to be honest the first thing I thought of when Caleb just disappeared was the show Fringe. So, maybe you're onto something.
ReplyDeleteLol, that would be interesting, but I think they saw a decayed dead body in Jacob's coffin.
ReplyDeleteha ha
ReplyDeleteI had another one to add to the list
9) Why is this just affecting Arcadia
I think it's because of the River..
