-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS rose to the top of the Monday overnights care of the 2014 NCAA Basketball Tournament, Kentucky vs. Connecticut from Arlington, Texas, at an estimated 14.2 rating/23 share in households (peaking in the 11:30 p.m. half-hour at a 17.3/32). Comparably, this was 10 percent above the 12.9/21 for Michigan vs. Louisville in the 2013 NCAA Basketball Tournament on the year-ago evening (and that translated into 24.43 million viewers and an 8.4 rating/22 share among adults 18-49, based on the live plus same day data).

The NCAA Basketball Pre-Game in the 9 p.m. half-hour averaged an estimated 7.5/12 in the overnights. As a reminder, results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

Earlier in the evening on the Eye net was an encore of sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” at a 4.6/ 7 (#3) in the 8 p.m. half-hour, followed by more basketball pre-game coverage at a 3.8/ 6 (#4) at 8:30 p.m.

Despite the increased competition, ABC and NBC got plenty of mileage out of “Dancing With the Stars” and “The Voice.” “Dancing With the Stars” scored a 9.6/14 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was equal to one week earlier. And “The Voice,” which will hold a considerable advantage in the young adult demos, averaged a 7.4/11. And that too was on par from last week.

More viewers, of course, tuned into recent NBC non-scripted entry “American Dream Builders,” with a third-place 3.2/ 5 out of “The Voice” at 10 p.m. But that trailed an encore of competing “Castle” on ABC (#2: 5.2/ 8) by 38 percent, and retention for the Nate Berkus-hosted hour out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Voice” (7.4/11) was only 43 percent.

Elsewhere, veteran “Bones” on Fox perked up to a 4.3/ 7 (#4) in the overnights at 8 p.m., which was 13 percent above the 3.8/ 6 one week earlier. But sophomore lead-out “The Following,” which was already renewed for season two, was flat at a 3.3/ 5 (#4). Comparably, that was 23 percent below the 4.3/ 6 on the year-ago evening. The CW, meanwhile, could not compete with its recent drama entry “Star-Crossed” (#5: 0.9/ 1) and a repeat of “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.5/ 1).
