Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

If you are new to ratings or still confused, we recommend you read this excellent Ratings FAQ.

Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

For more information on the Nielsen Ratings see this Wikipedia Entry.

Wednesday 4/02/14 Metered Market Ratings
“American Idol” on Fox Slips by Another 23 Percent

Household
Rating/Share
CBS 6.3/10
Fox 6.1/10
ABC 4.3/ 7
NBC 3.8/ 6
CW 1.9/ 3

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Wednesday 4/03/13:
CW: + 6, CBS: – 3, ABC and NBC: -17 each, Fox: -23

———-

-Winners:
“Survivor” (CBS), “Criminal Minds” (CBS), “Modern Family” (ABC), “CSI” (CBS)

-On the Fence for Renewal:
“Revolution” (NBC), “Suburgatory” (ABC), “Law & Order: SVU” (NBC), “Nashville” (ABC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Mixology” (ABC)

———-

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led the Wednesday overnight troops, inching past the home of “American Idol,” Fox, by two-tenths of a rating point in households. “American Idol” scored a 6.1 rating/10 share from 8-10 p.m., dropping from the year-ago evening (7.9/12 on 4/03/13) by a noticeable 23 percent. Competing “Survivor” on CBS was consistent from one year earlier with a 6.0/10, which should be more than enough to dominate the hour in the key young adult demographics.

SPOILER ALERT: If you did not see “Survivor” yet and do not want to know what happened, skip this paragraph. But sticking to her original alliance might have been a better option for Kass because three of those six were members of the original Brains tribe. Had they reached their goal of getting into the top 6, the Brains would have had the numbers. But for this fan of “Survivor,” blindsiding arrogant Sarah made for one of the most memorable tribal councils in the history of the franchise.

Airing out of “Survivor” was the always-reliable combination of crime solvers “Criminal Minds” (#1 overall from 9-10 p.m.: 6.6/10) and “CSI” (6.4/11 at 10 p.m.).

“Modern Family,” as always, was the standout on ABC with a dominant 6.6/10 in the overnights and growth out of modest lead-in “Suburgatory” (#3: 3.8/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.) of 74 percent. Lead-out “Mixology,” unfortunately, sunk to a fourth-place 3.1/ 5 at 9:30 p.m., followed by sophomore drama “Nashville” at a third-place 3.7/ 6 at 10 p.m. Comparably, “Mixology” dipped from the debut of short-lived year-ago sitcom “How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life”), 6.0/ 9 on 4/03/13, by 48 percent.

Earlier in the evening on ABC was underrated “The Middle” at a third-place 5.0/ 8 at 8 p.m.

In episode three news, CW drama “The 100” slipped to a 1.5/ 2 at 9 p.m., which was 21 percent below lead-in “Arrow” (#5: 1.9/ 3 at 8 p.m.) and 17 percent below the 1.8/ 3 one week earlier. Three-week overnight track for “The 100”: 1.9/ 3 – 1.8/ 3 – 1.5/ 2).

NBC had nothing usual to report, meanwhile, with dramas “Revolution” (#4: 3.0/ 5), “Law & Order: SVU” (#4: 4.3/ 7) and “Chicago PD” (#2: 4.0/ 7), which to-date is the only one of the three to be officially renewed.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

  1. Still not too bad for The 100. However, if it drops any further, I do think it could be axed.

  2. Hope the 100 stops falling

  3. I hope The 100 holds up in the demo and stops falling! Next week it won't have Arrow as its lead-in though, but I'm hoping it can stand on its own.

    ReplyDelete
  4. The Tomorrow People: we still have chance!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm really torn whether I want The 100 or TTP to be renewed. I would of course want both to get a second season, but I'm afraid that's not gonna happen.

    ReplyDelete
  6. God, TTP fans are so annoying!

    ReplyDelete
  7. It's hard!!! I watch both shows too but for me TTP has a great story and it is getting better and better. I think we'll get a surprise when CW finally reveal which shows will be back next season.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Just respect a opinion!!! I like the show. If you don't I'm ok, but I won't call annoying or anything like this.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I watch both and prefer The 100, tbh.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Even though I hate the uberannoying ones amongst the batb fans (now, don't get me wrong and attack me once again (I don't say all the batb fans, just the annoying ones)) I'd rather see Beauty and the Beast renewed than The 100. For which I'm hoping this is something like a... 0.6?

    ReplyDelete
  11. TTP is getting better indeed, but I also really like The 100 and I know The 100 will get better too! Ultimately I might prefer The 100 to TTP.

    ReplyDelete
  12. BTW, I doubt these CW overnights are correct. Arrow had a 1.9/ 3 and The 100 had 1.5/ 2, but for the entire evening the CW had a 1.9/ 3 which wouldn't add up. Also, it says that the CW had a 6% growth from last year, but the overnights on April 3, 2013 were 2.2/ 3 for Arrow (this year is lower) and 1.5/ 2 for Supernatural (equal with this year).

But as always, let's not rely too heavily on the overnight numbers and wait for the actual demo.

  13. Very interesting. Maybe Marc made a mistake somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Damn, it hurts to see The 100 falling :( this show is something unique for The Cw (like Reign). Next week will be hard without a new episode of Arrow as lead-in.
I like The Tomorrow People, but I'm rooting more for The 100.

    ReplyDelete
  15. For once I hope he made it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. They've made a mistake every day this week for the CW so it wouldn't surprise me.

    ReplyDelete
  17. You're right. 1.7 is the right number for last night. I suspect last year the night got a 1.6.

  18. EuphemiaWonderland3 April 2014 at 15:47

I hope this is a 0.6 or a 0.7 for The 100 and not a 0.5. It's the only CW show that hasn't been renewed that I care about.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm with you! I would like to see the CW renew TTP (or Star-Crossed but that's a dream) over The 100. I know it's wrong but I am still a little happy to see their numbers fall.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The 100 needs to get better. A bit boring last night.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I hope Arrow adjusts up in the finals

    ReplyDelete
  22. EuphemiaWonderland3 April 2014 at 16:26

I hope Arrow and The 100 adjust up. Also I'm glad Revolution went back to 1.3.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Go Revolution. Yes we can.. Go Revolution !

    ReplyDelete
  24. I know it doesn't mean too much, but the retention (rating 18-49) of The 100 was still good. Unfortunately Arrow didn't rise (despite a huge episode) and The 100 did what it could.
Anyway, go The 100, I believe in you. You can make it :) earn the renewal.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I watch both shows. After that gut wrenching ending on The 100 last night though, I'm def rooting for TTP to be renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree! Come on, Rev. Nice to see an uptick. We are alive...I see a chance!

  27. Savannah Hughes3 April 2014 at 16:34

What was the Criminal Minds demo?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Half hours?

    ReplyDelete
  29. That would make my day :)
I believe the retention of The 100 was still good, but next week will be tough (Arrow takes a break).

    ReplyDelete
  30. EuphemiaWonderland3 April 2014 at 16:37

Reign did fine without TVD so I hope The 100 does fine without Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 0.6 for The 100 is not too bad. As long as it stops falling, it will be fine (I hope). Arrow had a 0.8, but of course good episodes never get the ratings they deserve.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The show is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If these are the final numbers for The 100, well, like I said earlier, TTP still have a chance. The 100 registered almost the same numbers of TTP with the same lead in. We'll have to wait until May (I hope not) to know.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That's sad for Arrow. The show is amazing, this second season is way too good but the numbers are so low. It doesn't deserve this.

  36. There is a typo for Revolution's first half hour.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Where? I didn't type it, only copied and pasted it from TV Media Insights' forum.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Honestly think they'd be smart to renew both, even if they do 13 episode seasons for each. They've had a lot of low performing series with the odd 2-3 top performers. The numbers for TPP and The 100 are middle ground. They're not clear cut hits but they're not total bombs either. And yes, I'm biased. I'd like to see both renewed LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  39. No, I think the original source has a typo. No way it's 1.9--would love if it's 1.4, which seems possible.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't pay much attention on that, but has Criminal Minds beaten NCIS before?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ah. Blame Berman. He's made loads of typos this week.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It started falling after all the Lance drama. The quality of the second half DID decline and now it seems to finally be getting back so hopefully people will realize that and tune in again.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yep, 4th/5th March, NCIS got a 2.5, CM a 2.6.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You know, i'm betting it is a 1.4 since a 4 and 9 can look close. So there is even hope for an adjustment up for Revolution this week.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Right!? What's up with that? It's like people tune out for the best eps. Weird.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree! I'm preferring season 2.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Arrow doesen't get low ratings it's 'The Sara and Laurel Diaries' that gets low ratings
