Metered Market Tuesday Ratings
Clean sweep for CBS
Tuesday 4/01/14
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 9.5/15
NBC 4.8/ 8
ABC 2.6/ 4
Fox 1.9/ 3
CW 0.6/ 1
———-
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 4/02/13
CBS: +56, CW: +20, NBC: – 2, ABC: -62, Fox: -30
———-
-Winners:
“NCIS” (CBS), “The Voice” (NBC), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (CBS), “Person of Interest” (CBS)
-Not the Success Everyone Was Expecting:
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (ABC)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Glee” (Fox), “The Mindy Project” (Fox), “Trophy Wife” (ABC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another clean overnight household sweep for CBS with its combination of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 11.1 rating/18 share), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (9.8/15) and “Person of Interest” (7.6/13). But “The Voice” on NBC (#2: 7.7/12 at 8 p.m.), of course, will top the night among adults 18-49 (and the other key demos). And the ample lead-in support from “The Voice” remains beneficial to 9-10 p.m. lead-out comedies “About a Boy” (#2: 4.7/ 7) and “Growing Up Fisher” (#4: 3.7/ 6), which were close to week-ago levels and were the #1 choices for comedy in the hour.
An encore of already renewed “Chicago Fire” closed the night for NBC with a second-place 2.5/ 4 at 10 p.m.
In series-return news, Fox’s sophomore “The Mindy Project” (which has clearly not earned its third season renewal) scored a series-low (and distant fourth-place) 1.6/ 3 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that was 20 percent below the second-half of dying lead-in “Glee” (2.0/ 3 at 8:30 p.m.) and it trailed competing ABC comedies “The Goldbergs” (#3: 2.9/ 5) and “Trophy Wife” (#3: 2.1/ 3), which are also struggling, by 36 percent. NBC’s aforementioned “About a Boy” and “Growing Up Fisher,” no doubt, had the advantage because they air out of “The Voice.” Note to Fox: Maybe you should reverse that decision to renew “The Mindy Project.”
Overall, “Glee” averaged a series-low 2.1/ 3 from 8-9 p.m., which was 42 percent below year-ago occupant “Hell’s Kitchen” (3.6/ 6 on 4/02/13). Like all high school based dramas historically (think “Room 222,” “The White Shadow” and “Fame”), the window of success is limited for “Glee.”
Earlier in the evening on ABC was “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” which averaged a disappointing third-place 3.5/ 6 from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, that trailed failed year-ago reality/competition “Splash” (4.2/ 7 on 4/02/13) by 17 percent.
A repeat of “Resurrection” in place of canceled drama “Mind Games” closed the night for ABC with a third-place 1.8/ 3 at 10 p.m. And The CW traveled the repeat route courtesy of “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 0.6/ 1) and promising “The Hundred” (#5: 0.7/ 1).

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
If you’re interested in Ratings/Renewals/Cancellations then we have a number of resources here at SpoilerTV that we recommend you check out.
Great job renewing MINDY, Kevin Reilly. I hope your resume is up-to-date.
ReplyDeleteCould MINDY be that rare third season show that doesn't get renewed? Someone's taking a huge writedown for this dog, the show, not MINDY.
ReplyDeleteVery good for AAB. I was really uh-oh when the pilot came out, but I do am really enjoying latest episodes.
ReplyDeleteA 4.7/7 could mean an increase in the demo (maybe 2,1 - 2,2)?
Why? It was 4.8 last three week.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I didn't remember last week early numbers.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that Mindy's ratings are crap but I wasn't expecting a ratings miracle when it came back anyway it's already been renewed so that's the good thing.
ReplyDeletePerversely, I hope it continues. I want to see Fox justify keeping the show on the air when it falls to a 0.2 demo.
ReplyDeleteYou GOT a ratings miracle. Only in the other direction.
ReplyDeleteHopefully AoS will adjust up.
ReplyDelete2.1 for Glee means sub 1.0 in demo?
ReplyDeletePerhaps Mindy and Glee will be in competition for that pathetic achievement next season. Glee is FAR worse for FOX to air because it's an hour, so equal to two dogs + in sixth season.
ReplyDeleteAdjust up? We haven't even seen the demo ratings yet. LOL
ReplyDeleteThey got a 2.2/3 last week and that gave them a 1.1. So it might reach a 1.0.
ReplyDeleteWhich was also a post hiatus episode, the trend is evident...
ReplyDeleteThese are the early overnight ratings, right? Aren't these considered preliminary ratings? And even when we do get the demos, the sentiment still stands. I always hope AoS adjusts up!
ReplyDeleteI hate it that people don't watch Trophy WIfe, it's such a kind and beautiful show!
ReplyDeleteMe 2!!! I'm hoping for 1.8 at least!! Which was also a post-hiatus low...but should keep it on track for a season 2
ReplyDeleteGlee is so getting a short season like Fringe and will move to Fridays...
ReplyDeleteI dont know at this point if The Goldbergs has a chance i really like that show and it's not looking good
I hope AAB, GUF and Goldbergs did good.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my bad list Marc because Mindy is fantastic! There were a few misses in last nights episodes but I still laugh out loud watching.
ReplyDeleteI do like the show but it competes with Mindy and I watch that live. Not being able to use the ABC app anymore (no sign-in) has really pushed me away.
ReplyDeleteHow easy can be for them to change the agreement they have with Glee? I don't think the studio will be ask to reduce the season, I just see FOX burning the episodes off in death slots and summer.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping AOS is in the 1.7-1.8 range which keeps it in line with the last post-hiatus episode (which is definitely a factor in these ratings) no idea how to read these numbers though...as long as it stays above it's series low then I'm happy
ReplyDeleteI don't see ABC cancelling *all* their new 2013-14 comedies, at least The Goldbergs will be renewed at 90%.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping you were right :(
ReplyDeleteOuch for Fox!
ReplyDeleteAnother sub-1.0 performance by Glee ...
ReplyDelete1.8 for SHIELD that's great news now hopefully it adjusts up viewers and the 18-49 !
ReplyDeleteGoldbergs won't let go of those 1.5s! And right now, with everything falling, it seems like a good thing.
ReplyDeleteVery good for AAB.
ReplyDeleteIf ABC schedules Last Man Standing for Fridays at 8 pm for the 2014-2015 television season, ABC needs a sitcom at 8:30 pm. The Goldbergs or Suburgatory is a good candidate for that time slot. If ABC only wants The Goldbergs for two seasons, ABC will put The Goldbergs on Fridays next fall.
ReplyDeleteI think that's the first time that's ever happened.
ReplyDeleteSpring time and the storylines are getting stale
ReplyDeleteYeah, must be. But let's wait and see what the adjusted ratings look like.
ReplyDeleteDon't know of any reasons currently why they would be adjusted.
ReplyDelete17 mln viewers and only a 2.3 demo? NCIS is the CBS version of Dancing with the Stars ...
ReplyDeleteOuch 1.8 for aos it has fallen a lot, it's a disappointment
ReplyDeleteThe voice slowly fades
Also I think it will attract more viewers with Captain America out this weekend, marvel fever so to speak
ReplyDeleteMe neither. But maybe the half hour ratings will tell if they could be adjusted.
ReplyDeleteAAB and GUF very steady. Sub 1.0 for Glee and TMP fell below 2 mill viewers. HA! SHIELD and Goldbergs really hanging on while Trophy Wife is currently digging its grave even deeper. Can't believe NCIS LA beat the mothership. Is this the very first time?
ReplyDeleteIt's the first time I'm aware of.
ReplyDeleteThose ratings are not great
ReplyDeleteCompared to the other freshman abc shows it's a hit lol! The others average 1.6 and 6 went sub 1.0 it will get a second season based on the fact abc can't cancel it's entire schedule or most of it!
ReplyDeleteI check the ratings every week and never have I seen LA beat NCIS. Not surprised though, NCIS aired the second part of the stupid backdoor pilot, while LA aired a massive Kensi episode.
ReplyDeleteTuesdays at 10pm is a notoriously bad slot. POI's timeslot predecessor performed much worse there.
ReplyDeleteNo! But they were what I was expecting and the fifth best ratings for abc as a whole, so if it stays steady like this it'll get a pickup
ReplyDeleteAh yes, I forgot they were doing the Pilot 2 parter.
ReplyDeleteOoh, Kensi for the win!
ReplyDeleteAnd nice going POI
Man The Mindy Project never should've been renewed with those numbers.
ReplyDeleteToo bad for AoS, but I take it these were the numbers last time it returned from a break, so hopefully it'll bounce back up in the remaining six eps.
ReplyDeletePretty much, the last hiatus episode had a 1.7 in the prelims and was adjusted up so I'm waiting to see the adjusted first. But other then that they are practically the same. SHIELD should also benefit from the US release of CA this weekend too!i foresee it steadying out into may
ReplyDeleteI expect NCIS rating to return to normal next week around 2.5 to 3.0 range......and AOS still can't go up because it is likely the voice/NCIS impacted some of the audience
ReplyDeleteBut compared to the rest of abcs schedule and coming off a hiatus 1.8 is a victory...it's still also number 1 in men 18-34 a hard demo to reach... As long as it's steady it should be ok
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping they get it on Netflix before S2 starts. I think that could give it a nice boost since the show has improved so much.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it will be a shorten S6. FOX didn't 'cut' this season, not sure why everyone thinks that.
ReplyDeleteThe Mindy Project gets renewed but Dads which had over 3 million viewers for it's finale if I remember correctly will probably get canceled. That sucks!
ReplyDeleteIt has a pretty easy slot and it had repeats yesterday and only had a. 1.9
ReplyDeleteI don't watch NCIS, but I wonder why this show is so low. It is not strong as it used to be.
ReplyDeleteLooks like NCIS New Orleans backdoor pilot is not a big hit
ReplyDeleteSo sad for Trophy Wife. I'll miss it.
ReplyDeletePOI is doing great!!..but if they move it to a better slot it will smash all records
ReplyDeleteDid LA really beat its mothership? Can't believe that.
ReplyDeleteThe last time AOS was at this level-“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” at a below average 3.5/ 5 (#3) at 8 p.m-it ended up at a 1.7 in the finals.... so this time with a 3.5/6 I expect it to be about the same.
ReplyDeleteThe CW traveled the repeat route courtesy of “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 0.6/ 1) and promising “The Hundred” (#5: 0.7/ 1).
ReplyDeleteLol. Yesterday Marc mixed up BATB and TTP. Today he mixed up The Originals and The Vampire Diaries.
Also it's written 'The 100' but pronounced 'The Hundred'.
