Clean Overnight Sweep for CBS on Holiday Evening
Household Rating/Share
CBS 6.0/10
ABC 2.9/ 5
NBC 2.4/ 4
Fox 1.7/ 3
-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening – Sunday 4/21/13:
CBS: -15, Fox: -19, NBC: -20, ABC: -31
-----
-Winners:
Nothing
Honorable Mention:
“60 Minutes” (CBS), “The Amazing Race” (CBS), “The Good Wife” (CBS)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Bob’s Burgers” (Fox), “American Dream Builders” (NBC), “Dateline” (NBC), Hallmark Hall of Fame’s “In My Dreams” (ABC), “Crisis” (NBC), “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” (Fox)
-----
-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this holiday Sunday, besting distant No. 2 ABC by 107 percent in the household overnights. But each of the four networks dropped year-to-year (which, of note, was not Easter Sunday). HUT levels, no doubt, were below average last night.
CBS scored a clean sweep in the overnights with its line-up of granddaddy “60 Minutes” (6.3 rating/13 share), “The Amazing Race” (5.1/ 9), “The Good Wife” (#1 for the night: 6.7/11) and on-the-fence “The Mentalist” (5.8/10), which has little to no chance of returning for season seven in the fall.
ABC replaced regularly scheduled 9-11 p.m. dramas “Resurrection” and “Revenge” last night with original Hallmark Hall of Fame movie “In My Dreams,” with Katharine MacPhee and Mike Vogel, which was a nightmare at a 3.0/ 5 (#3) from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, that was 29 percent below year-ago Hallmark movie “Remember Sunday” (4.2/ 7 on 4/21/13), and it trailed the competing aforementioned CBS dramas by 52 percent. The Hallmark movie franchise has never performed the same, unfortunately, since it exited CBS for
ABC.
Earlier in the evening on the alphabet net was the annual airing of animated special “It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown” (#2: 2.1/ 4), which was 31 percent above the 1.6/ 3 it averaged in the Sunday 7 p.m. hour on 3/31/13, and demo friendly “Once Upon a Time” (#2: 3.7/ 6 at 8 p.m.), which is a lock for renewal for next season.
On NBC, “American Dream Builders” moved into the Sunday 7 p.m. hour with a record low 1.5/ 3 (#3) -- tick, tock…the cancellation clock is ticking. And it led into also relocated “Dateline” at a sluggish 2.5/ 4 (#3) from 8-9 p.m. At 9 p.m., recent NBC drama entry “Believe” could not compete with “The Good Wife” on CBS with a distant second-place 3.3/ 5 in the overnights. But that was 10 percent above the 3.0/ 5 one week earlier. And lead-out “Crisis,” which is also on the fence for renewal, followed with a series low 2.5/ 4 at 10 p.m., which dipped by 22 percent from the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Believe” (3.2/ 5).
Fox closed the night with overall overnight erosion from one week earlier of 19 percent with its combination of animated “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 1.2/ 2), and repeats of “American Dad!” (#4: 1.1/ 2), “The Simpsons” (#4: 1.6/ 3) and “Family Guy” (#4: 1.8/ 3) from 7-9 p.m., and episode seven of “Cosmos” A Spacetime Odyssey,” which dropped to a series-low 2.3/ 4 at 9 p.m.

is that good for ONCE, looks bad
ReplyDeleteThe Good Wife (#1 for the night) - That's what I like to read! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Mentalist should be renewed.
ReplyDeleteLooks low for Once.
ReplyDeleteConsidering it is easter weekend it's not too bad. It will most likely be a series low but should bounce back next week.
ReplyDeleteOutch, OUAT is lower than 2.0, maybe a 1.8
ReplyDeleteOnce?! What?! Oh My....
ReplyDeleteGlad Revenge wasn't on this week. Can't wait for it to return next Sunday!!!
If Warners wants to cut a deal somewhere, it will. TNT is their best bet. It's really up to them - the balance between the syndication/international value v. the cost of producing additional inventory. There are plenty of places it could air.
ReplyDeleteWhat does the Mentalist 5.8/10 rating for? This is bad as hearing? and if not, how will she find?
ReplyDeleteSadly, they broadcast a very great OUAT episode on an holiday.
ReplyDeleteOuch for OUAT! 3.7 is like the lowest it has ever done, right? I hope it bounces back next week :(
ReplyDeleteAside from THE GAME and COUGAR TOWN, I can't remember a show airing on a major network for 5+ years to be renewed for a "final season" on a cable network for syndication reasons. Sure, they might get a few unaired ones if the final broadcast season was pulled ('Til Death), but share some light on a broadcast show that aired 100+ episodes and final season picked up by a cable network.
ReplyDeleteOUAT had another problem, the well publicized abusive make out session between Rumple and his capture Zelena who killed his son. People didn't want to spend the holiday watching something so sick. Just the sneak peak where she was threatening him and calling him "dog" was made me ill, and that wasn't the worst part. This used to be a family show. Robert Carlyle was so proud that his kids would watch "Skin Deep", now they do this borderline sexual assault crap. They need to end this abuse stuff soon!
ReplyDeleteIt should improve once they free Rumple--whenever the heck that is. OUAT had another problem besides the holiday itself, the well publicized abusive make out session

I agree they need to end it, though just a BTW, the show was not intended to be a kid's show.
ReplyDeleteITA - it would be unusual. There are recent examples though Fox selling American Dad to TBS this summer or L&O: CI moving from NBC to USA for seasons 7 - 10. Since TNT already airs TM and it would probably do better than, say, Perception. It also could work as a companion to either MC or R&I. Trust me, I have zero stake in TM, but it also seems like the show does stiff have some life in it - even after the reboot
ReplyDeleteYep, lowest ever done.
ReplyDeleteSo far, it was a 1.9 with a 4.1/6...
Get ready to cringe ONCE fans. 1.7/1.6
ReplyDeleteOuch...
Aw, Believe! I really want it to have good ratings... enough not to be tackled by the cancellation bear.
ReplyDeleteI cant believe that ouat has a 1.7
ReplyDeleteit usually adjusts up.
ReplyDeleteBut had a lot of competition!
NBC aired Dateline at 8pm not ADB.
ReplyDelete1.7 for OUAT?! OUCH! That's horrible :(
ReplyDelete1.7 for OUAT.. WHY
ReplyDeleteouch, ONCE under 6mil- lets hope it adjust up! (on the bright side its was still #1 yesterday!)
ReplyDeleteOuch Easter hurt almost every show yesteday
OUAT under 6millions.. OUCH !
ReplyDeleteBelieve managed to rise, but Crisis collapsed? Didn't see that coming
ReplyDeleteEaster

Oh well, I'll enjoy Believe while it lasts.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to see that the highest rated show of the night in broadcast television only managed to score a 1.7
ReplyDeleteThat's what you get ABC for airing a new episode of OUAT on Easter. God, they're so stupid.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people didn't even know that OUAT was airing on Easter. Next week will be better again.
ReplyDeleteOuch at Once.Series low in demo and viewers I think.Well, that's what abc gets for airing it on Easter.
ReplyDeletea lot of tv series wasnt in the air why ABC is so stupid?
ReplyDeleteAt least OUAT wins against the others.
ReplyDeleteActually only FOX were showing repeats for 2 of its 3 shows. Everything else was new.
ReplyDeleteStupid how? CBS/NBC all new, FOX half new; GOT, MM, DM (debuted last night). There was a ton of original programming. If ABC had run entire line-up, I bet OUAT would've been higher. Since people saw some movie, they probably assumed all repeats, etc. It doesn't really matter because OUAT is safe for years.
ReplyDeleteABC decided to air a split season of OUAT, how are they stupid by airing it during easter instead of airing in january against the Grammys, Golden Globes and NFL Conference Champonships?
ReplyDeleteYou know that OUAT and Revenge ratings got irreversibly killed because of ABC airing them in january 2013, right?
Agreed, it was better to give it a long uninterrupted run and take the hit on Easter than have the ridiculous choppy schedule with like 7 breaks throughout the season. But that's my personal evaluation and I don't know if there's empirical evidence of one type of scheduling hurting a show more than the other.
ReplyDeleteI think omabin wrote an article here on spoilertv showing OUAT and Revenge's decline during those 3 weeks of january 2013, both shows lost almost a entire demo point, I'll edit the post if I find it.
ReplyDeleteIt lost to Amzing Race.
ReplyDeleteThe Rumple abuse spoiler photos and sneak people turned a lot of people off.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I remember that. Although omabin, I think, referred specifically to the issue of airing on January and against the award shows, as opposed to the issue of lots of small breaks vs. one long break which is what I was getting at. Regardless of what time of the year it is, I think airing the season in two large blocks with one long break in-between is the best way to go. It allows you to build the ratings momentum and not lose casual viewers who can't keep up with the endless preemptions. Also, for serialized shows, there's the added bonus of the plot being easier to follow. I wish all networks would adopt ABC's approach to OUaT this season with all shows, at least the serialized ones. Unfortunately, it seems like they prefer to cherry-pick which weeks to air every show, which in my opinion does more damage in the grand scheme of things.
ReplyDeleteI read elsewhere this morning that Cosmos was up. I wonder what the truth is?
ReplyDeleteI still hope that there is some solution for "the mentalist" because its a good show and there can be so many stories be told ... still. - there are shows which are just hilarious in comparison, R&I for example. i watch it because its so bad that its already funny again.
ReplyDeletecrisis ... I still like it, its a good show.
Adam lies. ha
ReplyDeleteThere is no way this is completely appropriate for kids. Not the little ones at least.
Well I knew nothing about it still I'm surprised somewhat by the ratings granted after killing off Neal the show seems to have taken a turn for the worst.
ReplyDeleteNooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I want a second season. Bo is sooooo adorable.
ReplyDeleteThis episode of Once Upon a Time should've gotten a much better rating, considering how good it was, esp. with all the Snow and Regina scenes. I hope these ratings adjust up.
ReplyDeleteI have no doubts TM could do well on TNT and that it makes sense in many respects, however I have one major issue with this - number of seasons. Will TNT be willing to buy one season? Because the actors are only contracted to one more, and they - specifically Simon - may not be willing to do more than that. Simon has already said he's conflicted about it coming back for S7. Obviously if we got that he'd be there - he's contracted to it and he cares about the show, but beyond that? I don't see him extending. So - would TNT go for that?
ReplyDelete
