This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

Wednesday 4/16/14 Metered Market Ratings
Fading “American Idol” Leads Fox to Victory
Household
Rating/Share
Fox 5.8/ 9
CBS 4.9/ 8
NBC 3.2/ 5
ABC 2.6/ 4
CW 1.7/ 3
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Wednesday 4/17/13:
CW: +70, NBC: + 3, CBS: – 6, ABC: -26, Fox: -33
———-
-Winners:
“Arrow” (CW)
-Down But Still Solid:
“Survivor” (CBS)
-Losers (excluding repeats – 58 percent of last night’s line-up was non-original):
“Mixology” (ABC)
———-
Ratings Breakdown:
With CBS in repeats from 9-11 p.m., Wednesday overnight dominance fell in Fox’s corner. But a 5.8 rating/9 share in households for fading “American Idol” from 8-10 p.m. was 33 percent below the 8.6/14 on the year-ago evening. “Survivor” on CBS topped the 8 p.m. hour again, with a 5.9/10 (versus a 5.6/ 9 for the first hour of “American Idol”). And its advantage in the key demos is expected to be higher than the five percent overnight lead. One year earlier, “Survivor: Caramoan” scored a 6.5/11. As for last night’s installment: How do you like that…another blindside!
Airing out of “Survivor” were encores of veteran crime solvers “Criminal Minds” (#2: 4.3/ 7) and “CSI” (#1: 4.4/ 7) from 9-11 p.m.
Elsewhere, NBC finished in the distant No. 3 spot with its repeat line-up of two telecasts of “Law & Order: SVU” (8 p.m.: #4: 3.1/ 5; 9 p.m.: #3t, 3.6/ 6) and “Chicago PD” (#2: 3.0/ 5). Only sitcom “Mixology” on ABC was an original telecast, and it scored a fourth-place 2.4/ 4 at 9:30 p.m. (out of a 3.6/ 6 for a repeat of “Modern Family” at 9 p.m.). Earlier in the evening on the alphabet net were encores of “The Middle” (#3: 3.4/ 6) and “Suburgatory” (#4: 2.5/ 4) from 8-9 p.m. And sophomore “Nashville” closed the night with a third-place 1.8/ 3 at 10 p.m.
To the readers wondering why there were so many encores, April encores bring May originals. The networks are saving the remaining original telecasts of the season for the May sweeps.
Over at The CW, “Arrow” was a standout at an above average 2.0/ 3 at 8 p.m., and it led into a 1.4/ 2 (#5) for episode five of drama “The 100” at 9 p.m., which was equal to one week earlier. Chances of a second season of “The 100” look very positive.
