Metered Market Tuesday Ratings
Clean Sweep for CBS

Tuesday 4/15/14

Household
Rating/Share
CBS 9.0/15
NBC 5.4/ 9
ABC 2.7/ 4
Fox 1.9/ 3
CW 1.2/ 2

———-

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 4/16/13:
CW: +50, CBS: +48, NBC: +17, Fox: -24, ABC: -58

———-

-Winners:
“NCIS” (CBS), “The Voice” (NBC), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (CBS), “Person of Interest” (CBS)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Glee” (Fox), “New Girl” (Fox), “The Mindy Project” (Fox), “Celebrity Wife Swap” (ABC)

———-

Ratings Breakdown:
It was another clean Tuesday overnight household sweep for CBS with its combination of “NCIS” (11.0 rating/18 share – #1 for the night), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (9.0/14) and “Person of Interest” (6.9/12). And NBC, which could still win the evening among adults 18-49 (and other key young adult demos), got a boost by the solid 7.5/12 in the overnights for “The Voice” from 8-9 p.m. Lifted by “The Voice,” lead-out NBC sitcoms “About a Boy” (4.6/ 7) and “Growing Up Fisher” (3.7/ 6) remained second in the 9-10 p.m. hour, followed by reliable (and already renewed) “Chicago Fire” at a second-place 4.6/ 8 at 10 p.m.

Over at ABC, a 9 p.m. airing of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” finished third in the hour with a 3.6/ 6, which was on par with what it normally does at 8 p.m. In other words, consider this disappointing. In season-premiere news was lead-out “Celebrity Wife Swap,” featuring Daniel Baldwin and Jermaine Jackson, at a very distant third-place 2.3/ 4 at 10 p.m. Comparably, “Celebrity Wife Swap” dropped by 63 percent from year-ago time period occupant “Body of Proof” (6.2/11 on 4/16/13). And the retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (3.5/ 6) was modest at 66 percent. Earlier in the evening on the alphabet net was an encore of “S.H.I.E.L.D.” at a third-place 2.2/ 3 at 8 p.m.

Elsewhere, Fox could not compete with its failing line-up of “Glee” (#4: 2.0/ 4), “New Girl” (#4: 1.9/ 3) and “The Mindy Project” (#4: 1.8/ 3). And The CW scored a 1.2/ 2 for both “The Originals” and “Supernatural,” which is nothing original.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

  1. I really hope About a Boy is up from last week :(

    ReplyDelete
  2. SHIELD came third in the 9pm hour? So NCIS LA and something else beat it.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Gressier Morgan16 April 2014 at 14:08

    NBC comedies I guess

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yeah, most probably. Basically pointless trying to show it at 9pm instead of 8pm to boost ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  5. if NBC comedies beat it, then I'm guessing it got 1.7-1.8

    ReplyDelete
  6. That's pretty low for The CW.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I thought so too. I remember The Tomorrow People getting HH ratings like that and ending up in 0.5/0.6 territory. The Tuesday shows might not even get above the two million viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  8. New Girl is doing terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Either AoS was WAY down or the comedies were WAY up then.

    ReplyDelete
  10. why is everybody freaking out about the HH ratings. Last week it did a 3.8 in HH and the end result was a 1.9 in the finals, the episode before it actually was 3.5 and it got a 2.0 in the finals.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sounds bad for ABC and Shield.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That's still pretty disappointing for AoS.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I guess but i didnt excpect to magically rise in the ratings. Even though NCIS LA has a 9.0 in HH it probably wont be higher then the 2.3-2.4 rating it usually gets. I was more surprised both CW shows only did a 1.2 in HH

    ReplyDelete
  14. Whats the rating for SHIELD? I'm not really sure, and if last night episode doesn't adjust up, does that play a factor in its plans for the future?

    ReplyDelete
  15. sixseasonsandamovie16 April 2014 at 14:43

    Disappointing for AoS.

It does not matter what they do, cross-promotion with Marvel's movies, among other things, people rejected the fist episodes and won't come back.

    ReplyDelete
  16. In the Albany area -- and likely much of New York if not several states near NYC, there was a baseball game broadcast. The Originals and SPN were slated to come on at 10 p.m. My DVR switched its recording and I have yet to check if it got all of it or not. That will certainly lower the ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I've read about it. The pre-emptions can be so annoying u_u

    ReplyDelete
  18. Miss Supernatural16 April 2014 at 15:31

Yep. And I read some fans complaining (including Clarissa from a website) that her CW filial had signal problems and stopped showing Supernatural. So I was already expecting a lower rating.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Miss Supernatural16 April 2014 at 15:36

It does... But at last I think The CW is aware that it wasn't the show's fault, but their own. :P

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't watch AoS but it sounds like they moved it to 9PM, was that just for last night or going forward? I'm guessing Marc's saying it's disappointing b/c they moved the show out of the NCIS cross-hairs and it didn't show an improvement in ratings?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm not so sure that ABC will renew AoS anymore. I think AoS is more in danger than GA, Scandal, Resurrection and OUAT, but less than Nashville and Revenge. It's complicated.

    ReplyDelete
  22. EuphemiaWonderland16 April 2014 at 15:43

    I hope there's no pre-emptions tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  23. GA and Scandal are not even in danger ^^
OUAT now always does more than 2.0 so no danger for it
But Nashville and Revenge are really in danger but Revenge is close to syndication

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why they decided to air AoS at 9 instead of 8? I bet many people tought there was no original episode after they tuned at 8 and saw a repeat airing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It will be renewed because it is above Abc's scripted average which is either 1.6 or 1.7. I'm not sure exactly what but AOS is definitely above it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I know that GA, Scandal and OUAT aren't in danger. I try to say that Aos doesn't play in the same league like them, but has better chances than Nashville and Revenge. Aos stands somewhere between not in danger and in danger.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The 100 did well enough, despite the pre-empting (last week), but I'd like to see the rise of The 100 and Arrow :) so, let's hope in no pre-emptions.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Not necessarily in A18-49, Shield was probably second there.

    ReplyDelete
  29. We will see very shortly.

    ReplyDelete
  30. GA, Scandal and OUAT and danger should never be used in same sentence. If GA can keep EP & PD and contain costs, it will be around for at least three seasons. Scandal & OUAT, easily three+. Even if ABC has a breakout hit or two, shows like Nashville/Revenge will be gone, the Tuesday time slot is a disaster. Resurrection is not an answer. Those three, plus Castle are the drama building blocks for ABC.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like very much AAB, hope the demo increased a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Person of Interest has been a good score. The episode was a thriller and a beautiful intensity;)!
Strongly the next and the end of the season promises to be thrilling :)
Must POI remains to this box and not be moved to Sunday night.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It is. As is AOS.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yep, it's more in danger than because Resurrection seems to have stabilized and if it keeps this way ( higher than 2.0 ) then ABC will have to make a choice between Nashville, Shield and Revenge knowing that Revenge is close to syndication....

    ReplyDelete
  35. It wasn't that bad. I wasn't that interested either but I stuck with it because it was Marvel.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ouch for The Originals.
About a Boy will certainly get renewed for a 22 episode second season.
I wonder if NBC will renew Growing Up Fisher.

    ReplyDelete
  37. damn, that hurts. If they would just stop pre-empting the damn shows, SPN would go back to around the 1.0 range.

    ReplyDelete

  39. Yay, SHIELD is up a tenth from last week. Let's hope it doesn't adjust down.

    ReplyDelete
  40. It got a 1.7 in the finals last week, and always adjusts down, so it will more then likely adjust down to a 1.8 this week which is still up WoW :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Miss Supernatural16 April 2014 at 16:33

    I know what I said earlier about Supernatural, but eeeeeeek! I didn't expect a 0.8 and 1.60!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Another ouch for Fox.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sigh. Where does that severe NCIS drop come from?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Miss Supernatural16 April 2014 at 16:35

Yeah... I said I was expecting a drop, but I confess that I didn't expect these numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  45. All CW shows that started airing in the fall seem to be down a lot this spring (Arrow for example). Supernatural got pre-empted too.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Brandy Danforth16 April 2014 at 16:36

They won't have to chose between Nashville,Sheild,Revenge. All three will be renewed due to the failure of this season for abc.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Miss Supernatural16 April 2014 at 16:37

Yep, I know. Channels went off air last night, too. Still... It's first time this season it hit this low, I think?

    ReplyDelete
  48. It's still doing crazy well. I don't think 16 mill viewers and 2.2 is anything to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Brandy Danforth16 April 2014 at 16:38

Revenge has better chance than Nashville or Sheildcause it's close to syndication.Sheild is still doing deccent numbers for abc despite the massive drop over the season.

    ReplyDelete
  50. But it sure does skew crazy old!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah, I think so. But with Arrow having dropped down that low or lower too, Supernatural is still in the top 3 CW shows at least.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yeah, I can see that. But I find a lot of CBS shows do.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think it was just for last night because of the Captain America movie? That's what I've heard, that they wanted to air the last episode again in case people didn't view it last week because they wanted to wait after seeing the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  54. series low for Ncis? the audience is still great but skewing very old as DWTS

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yes, Shield is second and might even pull ahead of NCIS:LA once the finals are in as Shield has adjusted up two tenths in each of the last three episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah, CBS generally skews old. I know I shouldn't worry, because NCIS season lows are still higher than several CBS' shows season highs. But still, it used to hit 3.0s in fall. Well, I guess it's DST and The Voice as competition that factors in.

    ReplyDelete
  57. TVBTN says it tied its series low. Though I can't find any 2.1 in the STV database (http://stvplus.com/show/116/NCIS#episodes). I guess it must have hit a 2.1 once in its first season of which the data is incomplete.

    ReplyDelete
  58. ok, thanks. I think it is shocking, ncis was doing 2.9 and 3.0 not so long ago.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yay, AoS is up. Only by one tenth, barring an adjustment up, but it's something.

    ReplyDelete
  60. It is odd, it scored a 3.1 in Febraury and its last original had a 2.6. It is a mighty unexpected fall.
NCSI is falling a little bit this season , last season it used to be above 3s every week, and it premiered to a 4.1 too. This season it premiered to a 3.6 and now it has fallen to a 2.1? That's a way quicker fall than I expected to see

    ReplyDelete
  61. AoS didn't do half bad at 9PM, maybe it could anchor the night there next season?
As for NCSI... wow, I mean seriously, its last original did a 2.6! and it was above 3s in February!
Also, not looking so good for The Originals. If it stays there, then that's ok, but still it's a far cry from the above 1s numbers it got in the fall. But well, maybe it will rate better at the beginning of its 2nd season, just as Arrow did this fall.
Shocked to see New Girl still falling... I'm about to drop the show so I understand why some people might have got out, but still shocking to see

    ReplyDelete
  62. I knew AoS at 9 pm would have an effect on ratings and the preemptions are a double whammy. Cross fingers that the 0.8 at least holds. (I will watch the new AoS later today so I'm not dissing AoS ;) ).

    ReplyDelete
  63. just checked, it is a series low tying, it goes all the way back to 2004, you can check it out here

    http://www.spottedratings.com/2011/12/spotvault-ncis-cbs-2003-04.html

    ReplyDelete
  64. I don't recall noting as many preemptions last year - I usually add a note to my ratings posts on my 'home forum'.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I expect ncis and aos to go up in final adjustments

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wow, WTF happened to the NCIS twins?
    Good for AoS.
    Not good for CW.
FOX has been bad for the while.

    ReplyDelete
  67. László Harsányi16 April 2014 at 20:25

The indirect PR for CA2 in the previous episode (and the fact that ALL articles everywhere stressed that if you really want to be spoiler free, you MUST watch CA2 before) equals a sizeable fortune in the marketing budget of the movie, which in the end is the same pocket as the show. So no, AoS is farther from any danger than any other ABC show maybe except Modern Family, because it has a huge synergy with the Marvel movies.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Demo is better than I expected.

    ReplyDelete
  69. That was bad for Supernatural! What a shame!! It was a great episode.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yep. That's what I thought. I didn't realize a new episode aired last night so I hope they this week's episode again!

    ReplyDelete
  71. WOW down again SPN what up with that? problems with the CW funny! or maybe the problem is something else. We never will know but if it did not air in some places there is allway on line to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  72. SPN was up in the last episode I believe.
