Dany's scene outside of Mereen is the topper, but the quiet scene between Pod and Tyrion was really well done. Didn't really care much for any of the Sam/Gilly scenes..
Tywin, Tyrion and Dany really are the highlights of the show for me. Tywin is delightful 'cos he's so in the game, it's impressive. Tyrion is always the best, no matter what, and his scene with Pod was lovely. And Dany took care of the kicking ass fraction of the episode. Honourable mention to Arya and the Hound, who are still awfully entertaining to watch. The only thing I absolutely despised was the awful Jaime/Cersei rewrite by D&D. It was disgusting to watch and, what's worse, made no sense plot-wise. What's next? Jaime leaves the Kingsguard and runs off with Brienne? o.O
Tywin and Oberyn verbally sparring was the highlight to me!
I also really liked Daenerys launching the now in disuse slave collars over the walls of Meereen. I just can't vote for that scene though since once again it began with an over-the-top speech by Dany.
Honestly, I really enjoyed every scene this week except one. The Lannister siblings rape scene. It confounds me.
The entire episode was amazing, loved the Tywin/Tommen conversation but I can't help but putting The Breaker of Chains first since she's amazing and that scene was too, can't wait to see how it moves forward.
I love this show to death but sometimes it just feels too broad. You only get like 5 minutes with each group of characters and then they don't return to them in the episode.
Was the Jamie/Cersei scene a rewrite? The timeline is different, but I remember reading this scene toward the end of S.O.S.. Cersei wasn't exactly cooperative.
Daenerys is such a boss, I love every single moment she is in, but this week I'll give it to Oberyn and Tywin, they sure now how to make a conversation intense!
That's only gonna get worse--at least, unless they really start boiling things down from the books.... That's a real stumbling block with me for the books, too: a chapter on a character, then two hundred-plus pages go by. (Admittedly, I don't mind that too much in the case of Sansa.)
Interestingly, Bran and Dany don't do much for me in the books either--Dany especially, though admittedly, I am not completely through all the books yet (they do get exhausting). In the show, though, I find the Dany and Bran stuff much more interesting--perhaps because it's generally much shorter, so it's just boiled down to the good bits. Sansa, though, I confess leaves me pretty much cold in both versions--though the TV version is far less annoying than the book version.
Tyrion and his scene with Podrick was so well done. I liked it but any scene with Daenery wins for me. I would watch an hour long show of just her and her army.
I was actually behind an entire season so Friday I started watching season 3 and have caught all the way up in just a few days. First, I was watching on the ipad while I did things so I wasn't completely lazy.....but yes, I totally agree! I actually got thru so many episodes because I basically skipped most scenes that had anything to do with the Wall and Bran Stark and that group. Last night they spent a lot of time on Tarly and the baby when I would have rather seen more of Dany or King's Landing.
I had this observation earlier today, but other than the timing of Jaime's arrival to King's Landing, I didn't find a whole lot different in the Jaime/Cersei scene than what came across in Storm of Swords. I remember reading it and thinking how grossly inappropriate that was. I'll have to go back and take a closer look.
On screen, it's easy to portray things more intensely I suppose,
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I am always in awe of the speeches Danny gives to the slave cities.

ReplyDelete"Tywin asks Tommen what makes a good king" is one of the best scenes ever made in this show
ReplyDeleteTywin & Oberyn, and Tyrion bidding Pod farewell.
ReplyDeleteI was able to vote for every option, is that right?

ReplyDeleteIt wasn't really a strong episode but I liked Tywin's philosophy of what makes a good king and Tyrion's farewell to Podrick.

ReplyDeleteTyrion and Pod, I noticed they both had unshed tears. I'm going to miss them as a team.
ReplyDeleteSo many good choices, but I had to go with Tywin schooling Tommen on kingship. Charles Dance is a joy to watch.

ReplyDeleteHa! XD
ReplyDeleteCould not agree more on Sansa scenes in the books!
After Bran and Dany, Sansa scenes are my least favorite most of the time.Especially after she leaves King's Landing.

ReplyDeleteThere was no point to the rape scene and it just made it so much worse. I have no idea why they would put that scene in. Absolutely hated it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see I´m not the only one that does not get impressed by Dany´s speeches. Way over the top.
Tywin and Oberyn were awesome, but I liked the scene with Tyrion and Potrick even more.
Yes you can!
ReplyDeleteCool :)
ReplyDeleteI can barely choose 7 or 8 scenes - how could I force people to choose only one!

ReplyDeleteAs always, Dany steals the show for me. Loved that scene and I hated the way they left it so open, I can't wait a whole week! :(
ReplyDeleteDanny FTW
ReplyDeleteDaenerys' moment at Meereen"FIRE"
