OMG! Best episode yet! I completely kept guessing who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. I love that Ward was hydra - I hope that they blame the love triangle on him just trying to get information. This look at the end was scary. "No, John, that makes you a psychopath." was the best line of the episode.
And I can finally talk about it! Holy shit, that was amazing and my favorite episode of the series so far.
Sad Bill Paxton was evil since I love him, but whoa at Ward also being a mole. Didn't see that coming. Hoping he's just been brainwashed or something and isn't actually evil. What was the look on his face at the end?
Desperately want to see Captain America: Winter Soldier more than I did before.
"Holy sh*t" was the first words that flew out of my mouth. WTH Ward! I knew something bad would happen, but I didn't expect (or want - so maybe I was wearing blinders) him to be the bad!
WOW. That was stunning. I really hope this episode gets the amazing ratings it deserves. Absolutely the best episode of the season - and an incredible continuation from Captain America.
Also, I really hope Victoria is not dead & that was part of the plan or she survives or something because I love her - she's so quirky and strange. Ward as Hydra (or brainwashed!Hydra) is actually a great twist.
Holy shit, that was intense! My heart was racing throughout the whole episode.
I had a feeling Garrett was the Clairvoyant but I was desperately hoping he was good. I gotta admit though, I loved his snarkiness in this episode.
I was NOT expecting Ward to be another mole. I was screaming at the TV for a good 2 minutes and my body was shaking! WHAT THE HELL, WARD?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!
This was one complete OMG episode. This was one of the best episodes of the season. I made sure i saw Captain American The Winter Soldier before i watched tonight episode and the tie in was perfect. HYDRA is at large. I wanted Hand to be HYDRA so bad, but Garret wasnt a bad idea either. I was so shocked Ward turned on everyone. I knew Garret would get away just didnt think it would b because of Ward.
First of all, I would like to say: CALLED IT. I knew Ward was shady, but I didn't know until this morning that he would shoot an innocent Victoria Hand, so he's on my shit list.
Great episode, and great tie in to the Winter Soldier. I have almost too many thoughts in my head right now, but I'll list some things I liked: Simmons and Triplett working together (I honestly hope he replaces Ward now), Hand's "test", May telling Phil everything has been in her control this whole time, May admitting that she cares SO MUCH about Coulson (unexpected Philinda feels), the fight sequence, FITZ'S SINGLE TEAR AND VERBALLY MORAL BITCHSLAP TO GARRETT, Paxton KILLING IT in his traitor speech (can he be a full time villain please?), Coulson seeing that he's been working for HYDRA this whole time, Coulson fighting, May shutting HYDRA shit down, Fitz killing that HYDRA agent to save May, Coulson/Hand handshake, and, as much as I hate it in context, the reveal of Ward as betrayer was well-done.
Things I didn't like: the music (except for the opening sequence) was cheesy as hell, Coulson shooting May with the icer, Ward acting all high and mighty when I KNEW he was full of shit, and that Skyeward kiss, because Skyeward never did anything for me, and now that Ward is fully revealed as HYDRA, Skye needs to be protected from him.
Honestly, this is a great and intriguing direction for the show. I am so scared and sad for the team, but I really want to see their reactions at Ward's betrayal.... god, that's gonna be emotional as all hell. I CANNOT wait!
Don't think so. I think she is really dead and Ward is really Hydra. I believe Tripplet will be the new specialist in the group taking over Ward's position.
I'm thinking he's a legacy HYDRA agent, as in, his family is "top-brass" HYDRA, so he's one by default. They wouldn't have a whole episode devoted to his unresolved anger at his brother and that clunky info-drop of Ward's family last episode if it didn't mean anything. His brother is probably his superior in HYDRA.
Eh, I don't believe that. There's not enough emotional investment for that reveal to mean anything, and right now it looks like he's becoming Ward's replacement on the team, which I am 100% okay with.
WOW..... just wow..... speechless because that was sooooooo awesome.... I debated about watching as I had not yet seen CA:TWS, but had heard enough that the ep didn't spoil anything for me..... the ep was soooo well done that I to the last scene that I didn't know who to trust and that is a huge kudos to the writers and spectacular reveal in just when things were somewhat right, the final reveal just snatched the rug further from under your feet! Just well done and am on pins and needles to see how everything will develop - of course I need to see the movie as well
I would love love LOVE that! It makes sense to me considering how by the book Hand is. I was confused when she proposed killing Paxton instead of putting him in the ice box.
Now the Skye/Ward kiss makes sense: the writers forced it to throw viewers off. I kinda suspected Ward but I thought they didn't have the balls to make him a mole because of the crazy shipper shitstorm that would follow. The kiss threw me off that idea completely (didn't think they would go against the shippers on network tv after showing the apparently expected kiss).
Best episode of the show yet! There was a lot of stuff going on, but they did it well. I enjoyed all the questioning of allegiances, twists and turns, and action.
I'm glad Garret is Clairvoyant, because aside from the actress playing Victoria Hand, nobody else who's been on the show, could have pulled it off as well, acting wise, other than Bill Paxton.
I suspected Ward was the mole, but he became even more suspicious when he lobbied to bring Garrett to the Freezer, or wherever it is they were bringing him. I think his fans would say that he's been purposefully wooden and lacking in personality because, all along, he was secretly a Hydra agent. Those who are not fans could easily say the show decided to make Ward a Hydra sleeper agent because he never was good at a personality that fans liked anyways, plus he did turn totally evil when Lorelei controlled him, whereas Fitz was still good but following Lorelei's orders. Either way, Ward is much more interesting to me as a sleeper Hydra bad guy, than he was as G-man#2. Also, I am not that pleased that the show had to go there with Ward and Skye, since they've been hinting at their "connection" since the pilot. I'm not buying it still. It still feels so forced. I'm hoping that's going to be put to an abrupt end, now that Ward is revealed to be a sleeper agent. Then again, the show might say Ward was being mind-controlled or brainwashed, in later episodes, since they technically have time to reverse things. Guess we'll see.
I'm also so glad May wasn't the mole. But I'm sad that her relationship with Coulson is kinda ruined now. I liked their closeness, trust, and friendship. I hope they can rebuild their friendship.
I've been watching every episode since the pilot, and enjoying the show, even if it was a disappointment from what many people thought it was going to be. But, I think tonight's episode brought back a lot of the greatness of the pilot, and a peak at the potential this show has. I'm really looking forward to the rest of this season's episodes. I hope this show gets renewed for next season (and continues to be as good as today's episode, more consistently).
My sister and I are going to try to see "Captain America: Winder Soldier" tomorrow. I've been looking forward to that movie so, so much. It looks awesome. Today's Agents of SHIELD episode just made me want to watch it even more.
Unfortunately I see a lot of shippers who read it as romantic, even though I thought it was fairly obvious that Ward was lying through his teeth to Skye during that scene, it really rang hollow. The whole episode was Ward lying his ass off to keep his mission a secret.
Really? Romantic? That was very superficial. I am really glad at the direction this is taking... it is f***ing interesting!! I was dreading the whole Skye/Ward shennanigans.... too CW for my taste.
Thanks for reading my long post, and taking the time to reply! :) I didn't think about it, but it would make sense, and be great (for me) if Raina was who Ward desired. Triplett's great, and already has a personality, and has decent chemistry with Simmons. I'd be totally ok with Triplett being added to the team in Ward's place.
He kills Hand and her group. He lets Garrett 'go' then kills him too. He says Hand's men released Garrett who kill Hand , Ward killed them and also Garrett. That way the Bus team think he is on their team, it was sad about Hand etc.
I think the show needs to keep its HYDRA angle long term, and having someone on the inside fills that job.
I also hope the love triangle is explained as him playing others and not "he is really in love with Skye and will turn his back on Hydra because of her" bs.
I know, but Fitz had good chem with Skye too. You know that age-group. Everybody likes everybody. ;) Kidding aside, I think it will add an interesting dynamic to the team.
I am not shipping FitzSimmons, but Fitz was bummed out when he saw that Triplett would go to the hub with Simmons and this will sure be an interesting dynamic. I never liked Fitz and Skye...it came off as weird IMO.
Oh, me too! I was sad that Hand looked like she might've died. I hope not. Maybe they'll do the alien-blood-Tahiti stuff, like they did for Coulson, on Hand...and maybe even Fury. I liked Hand's character. Victoria was a unique character, different from the other straight-shirt agents, and a strong presence.
I hope he is never revealed as a Hydra agent and that he kills Garett to keep that information out of circulation. Hydra agents arnt above killing their own to get their desired goal.
Oooooh, that would be GENIOUS. Keep Ward on the unsuspecting team for a while....nice. But I don't think it will happen because it would annoy the viewership to see him episode after episode just playing all the beloved characters. That, and Bill Paxton rules... he shouldn't be killed off so soon.
I dont think Ward will leave the team at all. Im not sure if he is doing this under Coulsons orders ( I think he might be) but something is up with that look they shared. The Camera does not show things that are not important.
Im hoping HYDRA want to keep an agent on the Airbus, which means they are willing to let Garrett be sacrificed to keep Ward in place. Ward now has angles to manipulate Skye, and he may actually really like/ love her.. .we dont know.
Still it was a great episode but I would not write Ward off yet.
To me, it seems like Fitz-Simmons has more of a sibling relationship, with possible potential for future romantic relationship, with some growing up first. As for Skye and Fitz, they seem to be developing a nice friendship, also with potential with possibly more, since the chemistry is there for these two, in my opinion.
Ha. I love a good romance occasionally, but the triangle stuff is a pest. It's a cheap drama tool. There are other ways to keep things entertaining on that front.
Good love triangles are so incredibly rare. One of the few I enjoyed was on Farscape but that situation was...unique.
Romance and comic books go together like peanut butter and chocolate, imo. They just need to take their time and develop it well enough that it feels right.
HYDRA is all about control. You cant control the Airbus team if you arnt part of it really. Coulson really only trusts his team, thus you need one of his team on your team.
Ward dosnt have to be impinged by being on the team. Remember SHIELD and HYDRA both want the same thing: An ordered society, ruled by science where the strong protect/ control the weak. They draw their recruits from similar places (look at the academy episode as an example). While its pretty difficult to control Coulson, its not too hard to monitor him. They simply give Ward a large latitude when it comes to orders.
and considering he is a specialist who is generally not a people person, the likelihood of suspecting him as the bad guy decreases as you are far more likely to be suspecting the person using the secret comm line, or the people with access to the sensitive data (ie Fitz and Simmons).
Coulson facing down one of his oldest friends who is now a triator. May owning up to the truth about her and Fury's plan for Coulson. Fitz telling Garrett that he will suffer for this.
You are right about "the camera does not show things that are not important", but I'm still not sure as to what that looks means. Maybe just one last menacing look from Ward so that when Couldon finds out about him he will remember the ominous stare? Really don't know, but I so want Ward to be evil now that I don't want him to be still working for Coulson. That and the fact that his moment with Skye seemed forced and the whole killing ag. Hand. I am loving your angle here: Ward not yet being revealed. It would be fantastic, but couldn't last long without alienating the average viewer IMO. Certainly a very very interesting twist. I confess I would be really disappointed if Ward is good, in love with Skye, under Coulson and Hand's orders and infiltrating Hydra. I liked his character, but he is much more interesting now.
I don't see any chemistry in Ward/Skye, and Fitz/Simmons relationship only seems like a brother/sister relationship, Elizabeth said at the Paleyfest that Fitz/Simmons is more like a brother/sister relationship too.
I ship Skimmons (Skye/Simmons). I see lots of potential there, from the beggining. Their chemistry, their bond. Hope they could explore more.
What I hope dosnt happen is that the next episode reveals that Ward and fellow agents were in the know on this, faked their deaths letting Ward 'join' up with the 'Baddies' to infiltrate them. Everyone is in on it that needs to be although Skye will now 'hate' Ward until she starts to dig into the plan and this compromises Wards cover.
I actually do Want Ward to be a full on Hydra agent just implanted into the Airbus team.
I actually like it when a show is written and acted in a way that different people can see and expect different things such as chemistry between A and B or A and C. I think it is much better than when a show only develops one obvious option: chemistry between A and B and period. So far the writers have done a nice job!
True words. I assume after Skye and May find out about Ward they will unlikely trust another guy ever again. And Skye has been fooled twice. First the hacker guy (played by Austin Nichols and I only know the actors name..) and now Ward. Though I think every action movie/series needs some romance too. I think it's some balance.
Agreed. Now I want him to be 100% evil, but I couldn't help but start wondering about the episode's title. Is it a hint to sth Marvel style or am I just too sleep deprived?
Why was the episode was called "Turn, turn, turn"? Triple turn? Triple agent? A reference to 3 Hydra double agents? Why not just "Turn".
Yeah, totally agree with you. That's the main reason for why i ship Skye/Simmons so much. When the couples are not supposed to be a thing, but the chemistry is there, and it’s on fire, and get to the point where the actors recognize too.
About the Skye/Ward, It feels like something the writers were trying to do at first, but in the screen really don’t work so well. And this is the magic of television, some couples work and some don’t. Things change all the time.
I agree with you, I don't like Tripplet either and wish that it is all a bluff and Ward stays on the team. DOn't really want to watch SHIELD is Ward really is a HYDRA agent. He's my favourite ont he team, even though others think he is bland. I don't like May and find Coulson annoying and so is Skye. Fitz and Simmons I like and also Ward. He needs to not be evil.
Ok, this is by far the best episode of the season and I feel bad for those few who watched this without having seen The Winter Soldier because EVERYTHING really is connected ;) First of all, let me say I hope Paxton has a long life on the show, because he just became my favorite big bad of all time. I mean, that scene where Coulson realized he was the clairvoyant was absolutely brilliant. His explanation as to why he chose HYDRA over SHIELD was so logical, there was no emotion about it, he just realized SHIELD was going down so he switched sides, I loved it! it was simple and real, they didn't turn him into some cartoonish character with deep philosophical beliefs and ties to HYDRA, it was just a matter of convenience. Like I said, brilliant. Now onto the big "surprise" of the night: Ward being the mole. Well, I spoiled myself this morning on Tumblr so to me him being the mole wasn't a surprise and all, and probably because I knew his scenes with Skye felt fake, but not with the rest of the team. I mean the scene where they are taking away all the HYDRA agents and he sees Garret, the disbelief in his face...And then when is telling Coulson and Hand how he should’ve known, he really conveyed the betrayal he supposedly felt, he completely sold me. If I hadn't known, I would've been blown away by the end. Which takes me to those final moments when he shoots Hand, I know I've said I want to be in denial regarding him and his situation, but am I the only one that got Bucky feels. There was something about his face before he shoots her and when Garrett is telling some anecdote, that gave the impression they did to him what they did to Bucky in the movie after his first encounter with Steve. Hand, why on why did they have to kill in the episode in which you finally grew on me? I hated her on her previous appearances, but tonight she was fabulous. The scene where she pretends to be HYDRA to try to smoke out Simmons and Triplett was great, and now she'll be missed. Damn you brainwashed Ward! May... Now May is not my favorite character by far, but when she told Coulson it was her who put the team together, I was at complete awe of her. Although she did deserve Coulson’s little speech at the end about how he keeps her on because she's loyal to the cause, but not because he trusts her. It was a given, he puts a lot of weight on trust and no matter how good and pure her intentions where, she continuously lied to his face. She'd do goo to remember that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. This is becoming a bit long... so Fitz and Simmons were great as usual, and I feel sorry for Skye, just when she became an agent, SHIELD crumbled to the ground, and then there's the Ward situation... What can I say, I hope this pulls over 2.0 on ratings. I honestly believe this will be renewed, but still, after tonight’s episode it deserves the good ratings , that's all there is.
perfect summary of my life while watching this ep tonight! This needs at least a 2.0 in the prelims no more of this adjusting up to 2.0 I hope it adjusts above that!
A) If you turn turn turn you are constantly looking around ( ie a sign of paranoia.. watching behind and around you). Which is what a lot of the characters did all that episode
B) Could point to
A) May firstly being a traitor B) Hand thought of us the traitor C) Ward revealed to the audience as the traitor
There are your 3 turns.( turn being short for turncoat)
You know, I don't usually sumarize my viewing experience, but after watching the episode I had so many thoughts going around in my head, that I just had to do it, if only to calm down a bit, lol. It has to get the ratings it deserves, and let's face it, if it doesn't get them toninght after las fridays premiere of the Winter soldier, it just never might. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed, lol.
here a theory about ward.....maybe his brother been taken hostage by HYDRA and now he is force to do what they want or he not see him again......Ward has to be a triple agent
I have nothing against Skye/Ward, I was even ok with the idea, but there's no way his interactions with her felt real to anyone. I mean that closet scene, before she kissed him, felt wrong. I can't understand how someone that can pull off the scene with Coulson and Hand near the end, couldn't pull off a simple Little scene like that one. I don't get it...
its funny ive never been completely invested in seeing the ratings until I fell in love with this show, I want a season 2 badly and check them every morning
I actually started last year to check which shows I could get attached to, and which I should stir clear off because they were DOA. I can't say it always works, but some of the time it does.
Ward is going to turn out to be brainwashed. Skye will turn him back with their budding love. Does Ward still have Skye's hard drive containing the Bus' tech/secrets?
I like the idea of him being brainwashed like Bucky, but I really hope it takes more than just Skye to turn him back, like his love for the team as a family and not just the girl, that's way too cliché and, honestly, it's never seem realistic, at least to me.
that a great theory and it not the first TV show to stage a fake death and all. But serioulsy I think guarding Garrett would have make more sense if Garrett was guard by more two agents......I guess with SHIELD fallen to the ground no one can really be trusted
Oh hell yes that was incredible, I knew the show could do it! So much to process and so many comments to read, initial thoughts Ward may be a triplet agent or he may have been brainwashed or something, he was definitely off at the end and not just "hey I'm evil now" off.
Fitz made me cry, his little face during the Garrett speech of pure evil but pure awesome. Well I think we all kind of guess it was gonna to have to be him hence why they got a well known name but if it means Bill being a cool villain I am so down with that!
+ Sorry I doubted you Hand, oh dear too late! + No matter how many shows and movies use it, Don't Fear The Reaper is still one cool song to use + FitzSimmons hug aww + If Triplett is the new member of the team next season I have no problem with that at all. + Damn Phil/Melinda my heart is aching + Hail Hydra!
Agreed. But I suppose it could be argued that the reason why she didn't notice was because of her own feelings for him, which is what Ward probably counted on.
Ok this episode was awesome, yesterday i watched Captain America and now this is one hell of episode. Too bad that was one bad surprise after the other. Just to ask can someone help me with something. The scene right after Coulsen and his team defeated Garet, Coulsen said something i couldn't understand it can someone please tell me what it was.
I agree about Ward. I'm not defending him like some are (I hate shipping), but he definitely felt off at the end. Add in about branwashing Raina and you see Garrett had the means to do it.
I haven't watched it yet, was waiting for it to go on Hulu but also wanted to know, does this episode require you to have seen Captain America 2 first?
Its the way the sound was muffled at the end like he wasn't all there and knowing what Hydra did to a certain someone in Cap 2 they brainwashing wouldn't be too much of a stretch. I think I would prefer it if he was in control of his actions though but time will tell.
OMG! But when they discovered that Garrett was the clairvoyant I immediately thought: "There's no way his top agent is not in it too" Sorry Ward, don't know what to think. Are you real Hydra? Were you brainwashed by Garrett? Still, that final look between Coulson and Ward. Coulson did talk to him in private. I don't know what to think! I hate it and love it at the same time! Great work AoS!
ABC/Marvel say no, I say yes or at least it makes for a better experience and if does spoil quite a bit of what happens in Cap 2. If you can see the movie soon wait for the episode.
Some really great post-episode interviews with those in charge, explaining that they knew they were heading to this huge game-changer from the start. Contains vague hints at where the show might go next
Certainly a great episode. And I think the twists are not yet done. For example, I don't believe Garret is Hydra. His "Hail Hydra" was half-assed. He just did what he said: chose the winning side. He knew of Hydra within Shield, and was playing the two off each other, but that all stopped, and he chose to go with Hydra when Coulson figured out he was their enemy.
The paranoia within the episode, where we don't know who is who, continues at the end. Ward can go either way. But what about Tripplet? Couldn't he still be with Garret after all? Send in the next mole.
I doubt Hand is dead. There are many ways she could still be alive. Depends upon Ward. She could have planned the double cross, for example, and prepared to fake her own death, hoping Ward will believe it. Or he could be in on it.
That's what is good with this episode. You can't really say for sure what comes next.
Okay, this episode kept me on my toes. I really did not see all that coming. Hand is not evil, Garrett is Hydra and apparently Ward is too. I suspected Ward must be the mole when he asked to accompany Hand, but I was like "no, that can't be right". And when he shot the agents and Hand my mouth fell open. I really can't believe it. Poor Hand, I liked her.
I think we should have a support group for Coulson, I feel sorry for the guy. He found out that the people he trusted and considered friends (Fury,Hill, May) have been lying to him and keeping secrets. He must have been so excited when Fury ordered him to create his own team and then he just discovered that he had been played all along. I'm still trying to figure out why Fury ordered to bring Coulson back to life. Why him? Okay it's Coulson and he is great, but at the end of the day he is just a Shield agent. Then one of his oldest friends turned out to be Hydra and his enemy, the Clairvoyant, and then the agency he had been serving his whole life is crumbling down. What a day! Still, who is the head of Hydra? Garrett said he had joined because they were the winning team. He must have heard rumors about sleeping Hydra agents in Shield and joined. I bet he became the Clairvoyant just for his interested. Who is giving orders? after coming high from CAWS and AoS there is one person missing that would have made everything perfect: Clint Barton! He is SHIELD agent but in a tie-in that was completely about the agency they forgot about him!
I agree Coulson needs a support group, lots of hugs - at least Lola will never betray him.
I'm still trying to figure out why Fury ordered to bring Coulson back to life. Why him?
In The Avengers when Coulson 'dies' Fury says he "Lost my one good eye" I think despite the fact that Fury says he doesn't trust anyone that he truly does want to trust Coulson and that is why he brought him back no matter the cost. We still don't know how long Fury has known about Hydra but I think it may have been quite some time and he was trying to figure out who to trust. Because he was worried Coulson may not be himself thats why he brought May in to keep an eye on him.
As for Hawkeye his absence is meant to be explained in Age of Ultron, guessing he was deep deep deep undercover on Fury's orders.
I feel bad for Clint if he is deep undercover and comes back and Natasha is like 'erm you don't have a job anymore sorry dude!' at least he has the Avengers!
I think, Imo, that it refers to them suspecting ward for shooting the decoy, then 'realizing it wasn't him' then going after May and then it was him in the end
I think Ward is actually undercover in order to collect information from Hydra, I don't think he is part of this ^^ Hand is not dead so, I just think she came with a plan before going on the plane... or she sacrificed herself for the cause, I don't know ^^
Who else is thinking Garret= Norman Osborn for the Marvel Studios Universe? They can't use him because of rights, so they created someone who does a lot of similar things.
I have thought this as well, I'm really invested in that theory. Maybe Hand even sacrificed herself, but it is worthy of note that she wasn't shot in the head like the other agents.
"Is there a reason why the episode was called Turn, Turn Turn? Triple turn? Triple agent? A reference to 3 Hydra double agents? Why not just "Turn"?"
I loved the theories pointed at below, but would also like to add my own. "Turn, Turn, Turn" was said last episode by Bill Paxton when Garett was creepy complimenting Skye.
Clip of the conversation:
Garett: You got a good team around you. I just jumped on the bandwagon. Skye: You trained one of them, sir. Garett: I guess it all comes full circle. Ward's your SO; I was his. Turn, turn, turn. But this SO thing goes both ways. You had a big impact on him. He's different than I remember him. Skye: Different how? Garett: The tough thing about being a specialist is being alone. A team gives you a whole new perspective. I guess its the difference between fighting against something and fighting for something. Or someone. Ward's got that now .....
So, I am assuming from the conversation that Garett knew Ward was Hydra and that he was implanted onto Coulson's team. I think that this conversation will also hint to later in the series where Ward will try to be one of the good guys.
One of the things that they really didn't talk about, however, Garett trained soldiers. Who knows how many people he converted. What about Triplett?
Coulson says she sees the good in people... if she does so with people she just met (like Mike Peterson), it is expected for her to do the same with people who she has been working and living with. I bet if she finds out about Ward being the mole she will be a much more cynical person.
I think Ward is a double agent, he is inside of Hydra now, he won their trust killing Victoria Hand (she is not really dead) and freeing Garrett but he is loyal to SHIELD, to Coulson. I think he will be the one who kill Garrett.
holy crap that is deep undercover for Ward. murdering shiled agent for his under cover, will he ever get over that! For me it was clear the second coulson noded to Ward that he was going to free his former CO.
and Wards under cover for me is the would be a really dark and more interesting Version for me. Hands and Wards sacrifice for this deep undercover her life, his soul. Or he and coulson are speculating on Gemma recreating the drug
making ward a bad guy is so forced. There was no sign, clue, he was bad before. No foreshadowing. It does not make any sense. It seems like they wanted to make room for that black guy to join the team...Maybe somebody complained about not enough ethnic diversity...
who cares about some interviews. There was no clue in any episode. I guess he was so undercover hydra that not even the script writers knew it...just pathetic...Its like a plot made up just before filming. They replaced him with that other guy...
OMG and we have descended into soap territory and started with the sickening sentimentality between Skye and Ward. Who seriously thought this was a good idea…it grates on the nerves in gets in the way of a damn good plot.
Okay i'm back. That will teach me to comment after only watching half the ep. Right the whole Ward Skye cow eyes moment. Told you we were delving into soap territory. And don't think the plot twist will stop that cause I have a horrible feeling it won't. ABC quite with the whole couples stuff please. If I wanted that I would watch the dating game.
Otherwise great ep saw a few things coming such as Garrett being a bad guy, and I was right about him not being alone in S.H.I.E.L.D. but damn I didn't see the whole mass infiltration thing coming. I was thinking one high up S.H.I.E.L.D. my main suspect being the guy that Deathlock stomped on. Boy was I underestimating *g* Glad I was right about May working for Fury.
But I have a feeling Ward will be back on the good side making cow eyes at Skye eventually….*where did I put that sick bag* Seriously they should just stick a sign above them both saying "Insert tacky romance idea here".
ok, ok I read a few more interviews and I rewatched some scenes. And I can now see how they planted so many ambiguous scenes. Still I can't shake the feeling they did that to make us believe the betrayal more. That double nod between coulson and ward Looks more like go ahead than anything els.
http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/04/09/agents-of-shield-postmortem-ward/ JEPH LOEB: [...] so when you find out that someone on the team is not who you think they are — at least now, not to say there aren’t more twists to come [...]
for me it says either: a) Undercover War b) Coulson is also Hydra c) Ward was Hydra confessed to Coulson a few episodes before in secret and is now turned SHIELD triple Agent. d) something I am not expecting at this point.
Anyway kudos to Brett Dalton for those very subtle micro expressions and gestures.
Yeah, they did say they had put hints of Ward's true nature. If you look in earlier episodes, he is very worried about who joins the team. Plus, it would men he did developed feelings for Skye, and Garret was worried that Ward had been turned against Hydra because of her. Which could explain him explaining Skye about May, about how he feared that with Skye he wouldn't be able to compartmentalize, which means, being able to play her, maybe he thought she would realize who he really was, or make him question Hydra and all. The thing everything forgot is: SKYE GAVE THE F****ING BACKUP DRIVE TO WARD!!! The moment she said "you're right, will be safer with you", I knew he was the mole. The look he gave her, like, you're not seriously giving me this, was priceless. The thing about Coulson and Ward, I think Coulson realized in the moment Ward offered to go with Garret, that he was Hydra. His look was, "I hope you pass the test". Was Hand who gave Ward the chance to get his gun. She was the one thinking about bury Garret, and since she already proved she likes to test people, seemed to me that it was a test. And he failed. I think she was prepared for that, she was using something under her clothes and just hoped not to be hit in the head. She'll probably be the one who tells Coulson that Ward is a traitor.I just hope Skye being Skye put a program on that backup driver that could led the team to it in the case it would end in the wrong hands.
You are so right, I completely forgot that Skye gave him the drive. Oh, no. Hydra is not done. I hope you are right about Skye putting a tracker program on it.
Interesting theory. If they make Ward a legacy Hydra agent, with his family being all Hydra, that would be much cooler, and more unique, than Ward being brainwashed, or an undercover agent, in my opinion.
I can see how that could be the case. In the pilot, they said that Ward had the best espionage score since Black Widow. Perhaps the show's finally showing us why Ward is supposed to be so good at espionage, with this possible undercover Hydra agent story. Plus, it'd make both Hand and Ward much more badass, if they were so clever as to outsmart and out-spy Hydra.
We've just had this episode in the UK and OMG!! I love the references to Captain America and can't wait for the next episode!! I can't believe we have to wait a week!! I was not expecting Ward to shoot Hand but Woah!! Ahhhh I liked him too!! Can't wait to see how Coulson reacts when he finds out, he's going to be mad!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
OMG! Best episode yet! I completely kept guessing who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. I love that Ward was hydra - I hope that they blame the love triangle on him just trying to get information. This look at the end was scary. "No, John, that makes you a psychopath." was the best line of the episode.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can finally talk about it! Holy shit, that was amazing and my favorite episode of the series so far.
ReplyDeleteSad Bill Paxton was evil since I love him, but whoa at Ward also being a mole. Didn't see that coming. Hoping he's just been brainwashed or something and isn't actually evil. What was the look on his face at the end?
Desperately want to see Captain America: Winter Soldier more than I did before.
I don't even have words... Cap 2 yesterday + SHIELD today... I hope this MCU goes on for years to come. Best media experience in ages
ReplyDeleteHoly Hell that was freaking fantastic I hope this episode gets the ratings it deserves! And the show gets a season 2!!! Favorite episode yet!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, colour me surprised.
ReplyDeleteI applaud it: they were ballsy. Nice. I love it when a TV show keeps me on my toes. *Bows to Whedon*
"Holy sh*t" was the first words that flew out of my mouth. WTH Ward! I knew something bad would happen, but I didn't expect (or want - so maybe I was wearing blinders) him to be the bad!
ReplyDeleteWhen they led Bill Paxton to prison Coulson and Ward shared a short look that made me think this is just a plan an Hand is somehow not really dead!
ReplyDeleteI saw Cap 2 on Saturday. Between the show and the movie I'm about to fall to the ground stunned.
ReplyDeleteHoping Ward was brainwashed too...SPOILER for Captain America 2 movie...............like Bucky.
ReplyDeleteWOW. That was stunning. I really hope this episode gets the amazing ratings it deserves. Absolutely the best episode of the season - and an incredible continuation from Captain America.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I really hope Victoria is not dead & that was part of the plan or she survives or something because I love her - she's so quirky and strange. Ward as Hydra (or brainwashed!Hydra) is actually a great twist.
ReplyDeletedoes this have any cliffhanger that explain why they go on the run!
ReplyDeleteI think in that look Coulson thought that Ward is bad
ReplyDeleteThey are making us don't like Ward and then liking him again when he wants to leave Hydra, and then, they will kill him. Mark my words
ReplyDeleteYeah, Ward is definitely a dead man walking.
ReplyDeleteIf he Is brainwashed then I'll be very disappointed. Him being a mole actually made him interesting.
ReplyDeleteAgreed I think the "all may not survive" sentence is going to tear it's ugly head here...
ReplyDeleteAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Just keeps amazing me, getting better and better with everyone episode, Fitz and Simmons are super awesome!
ReplyDeleteHoly shit, that was intense! My heart was racing throughout the whole episode.
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling Garrett was the Clairvoyant but I was desperately hoping he was good. I gotta admit though, I loved his snarkiness in this episode.
I was NOT expecting Ward to be another mole. I was screaming at the TV for a good 2 minutes and my body was shaking! WHAT THE HELL, WARD?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!
P.S. Absolutely LOVED the Hydra logo at the end.
What if Ward is faking being a double agent to infiltrate Paxton's HYDRA cell?
ReplyDeleteThis was one complete OMG episode.
ReplyDeleteIN. DENIAL.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling Hand set up the whole thing with Ward.
ReplyDeleteShe's cold enough to use him to help root out what is left of HYDRA and wouldn't think much of sacrificing two agents to do it.
All these theories are making my brain hurt.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteThat was amazing and season finale worthy. There's still five episodes left!
ReplyDeletea minute silence for Ward...rip bro!you was great....but....
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I would like to say: CALLED IT. I knew Ward was shady, but I didn't know until this morning that he would shoot an innocent Victoria Hand, so he's on my shit list.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode, and great tie in to the Winter Soldier.
Hand is such a great character in the comics, it would be a total cop-out if she were really dead. I hope not, but hope is fleeting :(
ReplyDeleteCan I join you there? Like CP said, is such a beautiful place where everything is posible.
ReplyDeleteHad Coulson realized that, wouldn't he have stopped Ward and told Ag. Hand?
ReplyDeleteDon't think so. I think she is really dead and Ward is really Hydra. I believe Tripplet will be the new specialist in the group taking over Ward's position.
ReplyDeleteI thought this too..that's what that look was about...
ReplyDeleteYea sounds right to me, i was thinking the entire time that they have set it up that Ward is actually infilltrating Hydra
ReplyDeleteTriplett is a double agent and he working for Garrett...
ReplyDeleteOooh, I'm totally on board with you on Garrett being a full time villain! I'll take anything as long as Bill Paxton gets to stay on the show haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking he's a legacy HYDRA agent, as in, his family is "top-brass" HYDRA, so he's one by default. They wouldn't have a whole episode devoted to his unresolved anger at his brother and that clunky info-drop of Ward's family last episode if it didn't mean anything. His brother is probably his superior in HYDRA.
ReplyDeleteEh, I don't believe that. There's not enough emotional investment for that reveal to mean anything, and right now it looks like he's becoming Ward's replacement on the team, which I am 100% okay with.
ReplyDeleteWOW..... just wow..... speechless because that was sooooooo awesome.... Just well done and am on pins and needles to see how everything will develop - of course I need to see the movie as well
ReplyDeleteI would love love LOVE that! It makes sense to me considering how by the book Hand is. I was confused when she proposed killing Paxton instead of putting him in the ice box.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if his brother is his superior, but I like your theory.
ReplyDeleteI also think that Tripplet will be his replacement as a specialist on the team.
Yeah but 5 episodes left....more twists are coming ;) and i dont like that guy (Triplett) at all!
ReplyDeleteNo, it's a magical place :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a good theory too. Hell, all I know is I want more SHIELD asap.
ReplyDeleteNow the Skye/Ward kiss makes sense: the writers forced it to throw viewers off. I kinda suspected Ward but I thought they didn't have the balls to make him a mole because of the crazy shipper shitstorm that would follow. The kiss threw me off that idea completely (didn't think they would go against the shippers on network tv after showing the apparently expected kiss).
ReplyDeleteFitz won't be so OK with that.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you like him?
ReplyDeleteBest episode of the show yet! There was a lot of stuff going on, but they did it well. I enjoyed all the questioning of allegiances, twists and turns, and action.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Garret is Clairvoyant, because aside from the actress playing Victoria Hand, nobody else who's been on the show, could have pulled it off as well, acting wise, other than Bill Paxton.
Today's Agents of SHIELD episode just made me want to watch it even more.
pls ward is a trple agent and he is working for coulson
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I see a lot of shippers who read it as romantic, even though I thought it was fairly obvious that Ward was lying through his teeth to Skye during that scene, it really rang hollow. The whole episode was Ward lying his ass off to keep his mission a secret.
ReplyDeleteI don't like Tripp either. He's too cocky for my liking but maybe this whole thing will humble him?
ReplyDeleteStill, I like Ward. It would make me sad if he doesn't return to the team or at least redeem himself before he is killed/imprisoned.
Really? Romantic? That was very superficial.
ReplyDeleteI am really glad at the direction this is taking... it is f***ing interesting!! I was dreading the whole Skye/Ward shennanigans.... too CW for my taste.
I agree with basically all you said.
ReplyDeleteThat, and I think:
Raina is the woman Lorelei said Ward desired.
Triplett will be the new specialist on the team.
Nice. I wasn't even thinking of that. Wish I had.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading my long post, and taking the time to reply! :) I didn't think about it, but it would make sense, and be great (for me) if Raina was who Ward desired. Triplett's great, and already has a personality, and has decent chemistry with Simmons. I'd be totally ok with Triplett being added to the team in Ward's place.
ReplyDeleteI think he is cool enough not to be found out.
ReplyDeleteHe kills Hand and her group.
Poor Fitz though (if Triplett joins).
ReplyDeletecuz i prefer Ward in show!and Tripplet maybe is dirty...we ll see :P
ReplyDeleteI really hope this show gets the ratings boost it deserves from this episode.
ReplyDeleteI also hope the love triangle is explained as him playing others and not "he is really in love with Skye and will turn his back on Hydra because of her" bs.
ReplyDeletehe didnt shot her with icer?
ReplyDeleteI somehow hope it's the theory about Ward infiltrating Hydra. But then again she wouldn't sacrifice herself for that would she.. Argh. I want more.
ReplyDeleteAnd I so wish that it's not Raina Lorelei meant. Maybe along the way Ward actually developed feelings for Skye. Argh!!!
Me too! With all the hype surrounding this episode, I hope I'll be happy reading the ratings tomorrow morning. *fingers crossed*
ReplyDeleteI commented on that earlier, it will be important to score above 2.0 tmrw and will be looking for the raitings first thing
ReplyDeleteI know, but Fitz had good chem with Skye too. You know that age-group. Everybody likes everybody. ;) Kidding aside, I think it will add an interesting dynamic to the team.
ReplyDelete2.2 i bilieve!!!
ReplyDeleteUnless she's not actually dead and was shot with a blood/red paint filled tranquilizer.
ReplyDeleteAnd then there is a new love triangle.. Hopefully not..
ReplyDeleteTripplet - Simmons - Fitz
I am not shipping FitzSimmons, but Fitz was bummed out when he saw that Triplett would go to the hub with Simmons and this will sure be an interesting dynamic.
ReplyDeleteI never liked Fitz and Skye...it came off as weird IMO.
I actually think Skye likes Fitz anyway but I do think Fitz will need to get over Gemma first.
ReplyDeleteI hate love triangles. Hate them. They are just poor unimaginative writing.
ReplyDeleteReally? Hmm...never really looked at it this way.
ReplyDeleteWard is in love with skye...i bet he will Raina before he dies!
ReplyDeleteOh, me too!
ReplyDeleteI hope he is never revealed as a Hydra agent and that he kills Garett to keep that information out of circulation. Hydra agents arnt above killing their own to get their desired goal.
ReplyDeleteI hope not, he is more interesting as a mole than "a guy in love who is going to betray Hydra in the name of true love". That is too CW.
ReplyDeleteBut I mean it would go that way.. Fitz-Simmons are endgame.. at least for me.. so why drag it out and put Tripplet in there..
ReplyDeleteOooooh, that would be GENIOUS. Keep Ward on the unsuspecting team for a while....nice. But I don't think it will happen because it would annoy the viewership to see him episode after episode just playing all the beloved characters. That, and Bill Paxton rules... he shouldn't be killed off so soon.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know, but I still hate love triangles.
ReplyDeleteBad enough they're in way too many romances don't need them in action shows/movies. Eh.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more.
ReplyDeleteif you remember...in the pilot Ward said ''i believe in world peace''...so i trust him!
ReplyDeleteIt's not only unrealistic (how often in real life does TV triangles happen?) it is tiring and can dumb characters.
ReplyDeleteI dont think Ward will leave the team at all. Im not sure if he is doing this under Coulsons orders ( I think he might be) but something is up with that look they shared. The Camera does not show things that are not important.
ReplyDeleteIm hoping HYDRA want to keep an agent on the Airbus, which means they are willing to let Garrett be sacrificed to keep Ward in place. Ward now has angles to manipulate Skye, and he may actually really like/ love her.. .we dont know.
Still it was a great episode but I would not write Ward off yet.
Well, he could have lied. That's what good moles do.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could upvote your statement several times.
ReplyDeleteIt was really cool to connect Fitz to CA:TWS through the device he made. Would love to see more of that.
ReplyDeleteTo me, it seems like Fitz-Simmons has more of a sibling relationship, with possible potential for future romantic relationship, with some growing up first. As for Skye and Fitz, they seem to be developing a nice friendship, also with potential with possibly more, since the chemistry is there for these two, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteHa. I love a good romance occasionally, but the triangle stuff is a pest. It's a cheap drama tool. There are other ways to keep things entertaining on that front.
ReplyDelete*bows to the cute puppy*
ReplyDeletePouch has a follower! lol :P (That's a pic of the dog from Chicago Fire).
ReplyDeleteRight! Hihi. Super cute.
ReplyDeleteMaybe...we ll see soon!
ReplyDeleteHopefully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteShe is. :)
ReplyDeleteGood love triangles are so incredibly rare. One of the few I enjoyed was on Farscape but that situation was...unique.
ReplyDeleteRomance and comic books go together like peanut butter and chocolate, imo. They just need to take their time and develop it well enough that it feels right.
Icers dont cause you to bleed out like that.
ReplyDeleteI like some romance with my action flicks but not triangles. Like you said it's rarely done right.
ReplyDeleteHYDRA is all about control. You cant control the Airbus team if you arnt part of it really. Coulson really only trusts his team, thus you need one of his team on your team.
ReplyDeleteWard dosnt have to be impinged by being on the team.
ReplyDeleteyea but there are lot of people from outside the US watching too! it too bad the US rating is all that matters
ReplyDeleteBest moments for me:
ReplyDeleteCoulson facing down one of his oldest friends who is now a triator.
May owning up to the truth about her and Fury's plan for Coulson.
Fitz telling Garrett that he will suffer for this.
...Ward's fight scene with all those Agents. Q_Q
Where unicorns dance and butterflies fly. :P
ReplyDeleteWow that was intense, really, really intense. Ward work for Hydra? Holy crap. Amazing episode and my favorite of the season so far.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about "the camera does not show things that are not important", but I'm still not sure as to what that looks means. Hand.
ReplyDeleteI am loving your angle here: Ward not yet being revealed.
My mind is spinning right now. These are good ideas... I need the upcoming episodes.
ReplyDeleteAnd neither Firefly nor Pushing Daisies were cancelled (yes, I still hold grudges about those, Sheldon Cooper style).
ReplyDeleteI don't see any chemistry in Ward/Skye, and Fitz/Simmons relationship only seems like a brother/sister relationship, Elizabeth said at the Paleyfest that Fitz/Simmons is more like a brother/sister relationship too.
ReplyDeleteI ship Skimmons (Skye/Simmons).
ReplyDeleteI actually do Want Ward to be a full on Hydra agent just implanted into the Airbus team.
I actually like it when a show is written and acted in a way that different people can see and expect different things such as chemistry between A and B or A and C. I think it is much better than when a show only develops one obvious option: chemistry between A and B and period.
ReplyDeleteSo far the writers have done a nice job!
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Now I want him to be 100% evil, but I couldn't help but start wondering about the episode's title. Is it a hint to sth Marvel style or am I just too sleep deprived?
ReplyDeleteWhy was the episode was called "Turn, turn, turn"? Triple turn? Triple agent? A reference to 3 Hydra double agents? Why not just "Turn".
Thats whats worrying me. I really don't like Tripplet. Not sure if I will watch season 2 without Ward on the team.
ReplyDeleteYeah, totally agree with you. That's the main reason for why i ship Skye/Simmons so much. When the couples are not supposed to be a thing, but the chemistry is there, and it’s on fire, and get to the point where the actors recognize too.
ReplyDeleteAbout the Skye/Ward, It feels like something the writers were trying to do at first, but in the screen really don’t work so well.
ReplyDeleteOk, this is by far the best episode of the season and I feel bad for those few who watched this without having seen The Winter Soldier because EVERYTHING really is connected ;)
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, let me say I hope Paxton has a long life on the show, because he just became my favorite big bad of all time.
I mean
the scene where they are taking away all the HYDRA agents and he sees Garret, the disbelief in his face...And then when is telling Coulson and Hand how he should’ve known, he really conveyed the betrayal he supposedly felt, he completely sold me.
I hated her on her previous appearances,
but tonight she was fabulous.
Ward is a bit bland but I like that. He's a good contrast to the rest of the team.
ReplyDeleteI also like his appreciation for boardgames.
perfect summary of my life while watching this ep tonight! This needs at least a 2.0 in the prelims no more of this adjusting up to 2.0 I hope it adjusts above that!
ReplyDeleteit seem like bad thing happen revolve around Skype she seem to be bad luck and her storyline has not been resolve yet.....and her SO is now a traitor!
ReplyDeletePerhaps its referring to the fact that
ReplyDeleteA) If you turn turn turn you are constantly looking around ( ie a sign of paranoia.. watching behind and around you). Which is what a lot of the characters did all that episode
B) Could point to
A) May firstly being a traitor
B) Hand thought of us the traitor
C) Ward revealed to the audience as the traitor
There are your 3 turns.( turn being short for turncoat)
Wake up guys....Coulson send Ward undercover into HYDRA......
ReplyDeleteYou know, I don't usually sumarize my viewing experience, but after watching the episode I had so many thoughts going around in my head, that I just had to do it, if only to calm down a bit, lol.
ReplyDeleteIt has to get the ratings it deserves, and let's face it, if it doesn't get them toninght after las fridays premiere of the Winter soldier, it just never might. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed, lol.
here a theory about ward.....maybe his brother been taken hostage by HYDRA and now he is force to do what they want or he not see him again......Ward has to be a triple agent
ReplyDeleteAnd every show I've ever liked that's been cancelled before it's time, it still on the air ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think next week will be Bill Paxton's last episode. Could it be Ward's too?
ReplyDeleteI also think Skye will have something to do with him leaving Hydra or him dying
ReplyDeleteHe was probably just suspicious. I mean, look who trained him. And there wasn't a lot to do in that moment
ReplyDeleteno for sure...ward have full season contract!
ReplyDeleteI have nothing against Skye/Ward, I was even ok with the idea, but there's no way his interactions with her felt real to anyone. I mean that closet scene, before she kissed him, felt wrong. I can't understand how someone that can pull off the scene with Coulson and Hand near the end, couldn't pull off a simple Little scene like that one. I don't get it...
ReplyDeletewhen they ll publish tv ratings?
ReplyDeleteIn the morning, I suppose. I depend on the nice people here to post them, since until recently, I didn't checked them at all.
ReplyDeleteits funny ive never been completely invested in seeing the ratings until I fell in love with this show, I want a season 2 badly and check them every morning
ReplyDeletei know ur feeling...i become movie freak!for this show...what time is it on U.S?cuz i m Europe!
ReplyDeleteI actually started last year to check which shows I could get attached to, and which I should stir clear off because they were DOA. I can't say it always works, but some of the time it does.
ReplyDeleteWard is going to turn out to be brainwashed. Skye will turn him back with their budding love.
ReplyDeleteDoes Ward still have Skye's hard drive containing the Bus' tech/secrets?
nice theory
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of him being brainwashed like Bucky, but I really hope it takes more than just Skye to turn him back, like his love for the team as a family and not just the girl, that's way too cliché and, honestly, it's never seem realistic, at least to me.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great theory. She's using Ward to infiltrate Hydra. She's alive, that was fake blood dripping off her hand.
ReplyDeletewatch the scene when Coulson spoke to Ward...watch ward face...HYDRA is to deep...thats why!Agent Hant is still alive...
ReplyDeletethat a great theory and it not the first TV show to stage a fake death and all. But serioulsy I think guarding Garrett would have make more sense if Garrett was guard by more two agents......I guess with SHIELD fallen to the ground no one can really be trusted
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty blatant that something about Ward was off, I'm surprised Skye fell for it; I expected her to see past the bullshit.
ReplyDeleteOh hell yes that was incredible, I knew the show could do it! So much to process and so many comments to read, initial thoughts Ward may be a triplet agent or he may have been brainwashed or something, he was definitely off at the end and not just "hey I'm evil now" off.
ReplyDeleteFitz made me cry, his little face during the Garrett speech of pure evil but pure awesome. Well I think we all kind of guess it was gonna to have to be him hence why they got a well known name but if it means Bill being a cool villain I am so down with that!
+ Sorry I doubted you Hand, oh dear too late!
+ No matter how many shows and movies use it, Don't Fear The Reaper is still one cool song to use
+ FitzSimmons hug aww
+ If Triplett is the new member of the team next season I have no problem with that at all.
+ Damn Phil/Melinda my heart is aching
+ Hail Hydra!
Agreed. But I suppose it could be argued that the reason why she didn't notice was because of her own feelings for him, which is what Ward probably counted on.
ReplyDeleteIs this also the episode that has generated the most activity on the Spoiler TV thread?! the back and forth tonight is awesome!
ReplyDeletethis is the only time in a long time there has 100 commets for AOS I mean it arrow like popular tonight
ReplyDeleteI think if Ward really is truly bad he will be the threat against the time until the finale at least, maybe into next season if they don't catch him.
ReplyDeleteThat is another good theory, would explain why his brother has been mentioned a few times.
ReplyDeleteOk this episode was awesome, yesterday i watched Captain America and now this is one hell of episode. Too bad that was one bad surprise after the other.
ReplyDeleteJust to ask can someone help me with something.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched it yet, was waiting for it to go on Hulu but also wanted to know, does this episode require you to have seen Captain America 2 first?
ReplyDeleteI just finished watching it and I am floored. That was insane, intense, and amazing. I can't wait to see what happens next!
ReplyDeleteIts the way the sound was muffled at the end like he wasn't all there and knowing what Hydra did to a certain someone in Cap 2 they brainwashing wouldn't be too much of a stretch. I think I would prefer it if he was in control of his actions though but time will tell.
ReplyDeleteOMG! But when they discovered that Garrett was the clairvoyant I immediately thought: "There's no way his top agent is not in it too" Sorry Ward, don't know what to think. Are you real Hydra? Were you brainwashed by Garrett?
ReplyDeleteStill, that final look between Coulson and Ward.
ReplyDeleteSome really great post-episode interviews with those in charge, explaining that they knew they were heading to this huge game-changer from the start.

ReplyDeleteThe paranoia within the episode, where we don't know who is who, continues at the end.
ReplyDeleteI think we should have a support group for Coulson, I feel sorry for the guy. He found out that the people he trusted and considered friends (Fury,Hill, May) have been lying to him and keeping secrets. He must have been so excited when Fury ordered him to create his own team and then he just discovered that he had been played all along.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out why Fury ordered to bring Coulson back to life.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out why Fury ordered to bring Coulson back to life.
As for Hawkeye his absence is meant to be explained in Age of Ultron, guessing he was deep deep deep undercover on Fury's orders.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I hope they come up with a good story, I missed seeing Barton shooting some arrows at Hydra agents behinds! lol
I feel bad for Clint if he is deep undercover and comes back and Natasha is like 'erm you don't have a job anymore sorry dude!' at least he has the Avengers!
ReplyDeleteI think, Imo, that it refers to them suspecting ward for shooting the decoy, then 'realizing it wasn't him' then going after May and then it was him in the end
ReplyDeleteI think Ward is actually undercover in order to collect information from Hydra, I don't think he is part of this ^^
ReplyDeleteHand is not dead so, I just think she came with a plan before going on the plane... or she sacrificed herself for the cause, I don't know ^^
Who else is thinking Garret= Norman Osborn for the Marvel Studios Universe? They can't use him because of rights, so they created someone who does a lot of similar things.
ReplyDeleteI have thought this as well, I'm really invested in that theory. Maybe Hand even sacrificed herself, but it is worthy of note that she wasn't shot in the head like the other agents.
ReplyDelete"Is there a reason why the episode was called Turn, Turn Turn? Triple turn? Triple agent? A reference to 3 Hydra double agents? Why not just "Turn"?"
ReplyDeleteI loved the theories pointed at below, but would also like to add my own.
Thanks!!! Great theories.... Bothcompletely plausible IMO.
ReplyDeleteGlad that Ward is really evil (based on the newly released interviews).
Ooooooh, this little chat has a whole diferente meaning now.
ReplyDeleteCoulson says she sees the good in people... if she does so with people she just met (like Mike Peterson), it is expected for her to do the same with people who she has been working and living with.
ReplyDeleteI bet if she finds out about Ward being the mole she will be a much more cynical person.
The newly released interviews state clearly that Ward is evil and Hydra.
ReplyDelete(after second view) Hey, what happened to the backup hard drive Skye gave to Ward? Does Hydra have it now?
ReplyDeleteI think Ward is a double agent, he is inside of Hydra now, he won their trust killing Victoria Hand (she is not really dead) and freeing Garrett but he is loyal to SHIELD, to Coulson. I think he will be the one who kill Garrett.
ReplyDeleteholy crap that is deep undercover for Ward. murdering shiled agent for his under cover, will he ever get over that! For me it was clear the second coulson noded to Ward that he was going to free his former CO.
ReplyDeleteNot a cover
ReplyDeletethen why did we not get any tiny bit of a hint he could be playing another game while he was under Lorelais spell.....
ReplyDeleteand Wards under cover for me is the would be a really dark and more interesting Version for me. Hands and Wards sacrifice for this deep undercover her life, his soul. Or he and coulson are speculating on Gemma recreating the drug
ReplyDeleteWe did. Go read the post-episode interviews, Ward is a HYDRA agent
ReplyDeleteI don't think this is just a one/two episode Undercover, I'm thinking really long term - thus the intervews.
ReplyDeletegjdfsldrfgn;'adfjmlouanlc;
ReplyDelete*iz dead*
making ward a bad guy is so forced. There was no sign, clue, he was bad before. No foreshadowing. It does not make any sense. It seems like they wanted to make room for that black guy to join the team...Maybe somebody complained about not enough ethnic diversity...
ReplyDeletewho cares about some interviews. There was no clue in any episode. I guess he was so undercover hydra that not even the script writers knew it...just pathetic...Its like a plot made up just before filming. They replaced him with that other guy...
ReplyDeleteOMG and we have descended into soap territory and started with the sickening sentimentality between Skye and Ward. Who seriously thought this was a good idea…it grates on the nerves in gets in the way of a damn good plot.
ReplyDeleteLol. Tell us how you REALLY feel.
ReplyDeleteI hope the ratings is not correct...If we have season 2 Ward will back in Coulson's team
ReplyDeleteOkay i'm back.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise great ep saw a few things coming such as Garrett being a bad guy, and I was right about him not being alone in S.H.I.E.L.D. but damn I didn't see the whole mass infiltration thing coming.
There was, rewatch it. Back in the pilot it was noted Ward had scores not seen since Black Widow, who herself used to be a bad guy
ReplyDeleteok, ok I read a few more interviews and I rewatched some scenes. And I can now see how they planted so many ambiguous scenes. Still I can't shake the feeling they did that to make us believe the betrayal more. That double nod between coulson and ward Looks more like go ahead than anything els.
ReplyDeletehttp://insidetv.ew.com/2014/04/09/agents-of-shield-postmortem-ward/
JEPH LOEB: [...] so when you find out that
someone on the team is not who you think they are — at least now, not to say
there aren’t more twists to come [...]
for me it says either: a) Undercover War b) Coulson is also Hydra c) Ward was Hydra confessed to Coulson a few episodes before in secret and is now turned SHIELD triple Agent. d) something I am not expecting at this point.
Anyway kudos to Brett Dalton for those very subtle micro expressions and gestures.
totally agree on the song!!!!
ReplyDeleteI DON'T ANT WARD TO BE BAD:(
ReplyDeleteWow, doesn't Triplett (BJ Britt) really look like Falcon (Anthony Mackie) from Cap Amer2?
ReplyDeleteWell, Hydra does too... Only their pece is their kind of freedom. Vide Captain American WS
ReplyDeleteYou are right...But i hope for another twist!
ReplyDeleteYeah, they did say they had put hints of Ward's true nature.
ReplyDeleteThe thing everything forgot is: SKYE GAVE THE F****ING BACKUP DRIVE TO WARD!!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting theory. If they make Ward a legacy Hydra agent, with his family being all Hydra, that would be much cooler, and more unique, than Ward being brainwashed, or an undercover agent, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI can see how that could be the case.
ReplyDeleteWard will die in season finale and the black guy will replace him...
ReplyDeleteYes! Thank you for saying this. It seems pretty obvious.
ReplyDeleteWe've just had this episode in the UK and OMG!! I love the references to Captain America and can't wait for the next episode!! I can't believe we have to wait a week!! I was not expecting Ward to shoot Hand but Woah!! Ahhhh I liked him too!! Can't wait to see how Coulson reacts when he finds out, he's going to be mad!
