Mostly fantastic episode, but rather disappointed that Fuller did not follow through with the source material here by killing of Chilton. I was so looking forward to payback during the Red Dragon Era and followed by that classic ending scene in the film version of Silence of the Lambs. Felt like this one was more for shock value, even through there are juxtapositions with Lass and Starling) Maybe I'll be proven wrong and like with Gideon maybe he might of survived, despite what Will said to Hannibal and they're setting Hannibal up now???
I would be really shocked if he survived. I mean it was a shot to the head. I don't like people surviving a shot to the head, just seems very unrealistic. I meant in TV shows, lol.
Did I just accidentally watch Following instead of Hannibal? Because that kind of bullshit asspulling is not what I want to see. 1. We have a fingerprint of Hannibal Lecter and some drugs. So fuck the fingerprint and let's concentrate on the only person in the world who could use these drugs. 2. Chilton's behaviour in this episode is completely out of character. He wouldn't run away because he knew that he had alibi for several of ripper's crimes, including the disappearance of Abigail. 3. The most convenient plot device that is Miriam Lass. Let's have her kill Chilton so that we don't waste any time on him anymore, it's not like he could be exonerated. That was the worst episode of Hannibal and one of the most horrible hours of television I've ever seen.
I must admit this episode kinda sucked, I dont understand why Jack Crawford is so stupid now, this would obviously never happen in real life, I mean its obvious its someone who is involved in the fbi, its too interpersonal. Its like ok its possible dr. chilton is framing hannibal but its absurd hannibal is framing anyone. I just dont know its getting beyond far fetched now I feel.
How should Chilton get an alibi. He's the most unsympathic character in the history of fiction. So how should Chilton have any friends? Chilton is probably often at home and watches bad shows like Following.
Chilton is also ever a coward as soon as he finds out that he is inferior to another people. He was ... in his pants because of Dr. Gideon and he is ... in hundred pants because of Dr. Lecter.
BF about Chilton: "Serpico survived a bullet to the face." I guess Chilton will be in coma for a long time, Although Will maybe has some ulterior motives the Ripper-case is closed.
Awesome episode. How Chilton did ... into his pants when he met the complete Hannibal was epic. Awesome acting by Mads Mikkelsen AND by Raul Esparza.
I'm not so sure he is....There is one scene where he explicitly says he doesn't trust Miriam and that he seems to take Will's advice seriously, that there will be something that leads them away from Hannibal. Additionally in the scene where he hunts Chilton down, I think he saw it on Chilton's face that he is not the one who did this. That Chilton is not a killer, despite having some pseudo sociopaths traits (as Chilton himself noted)
It's possible that Chilton survived and that Will lied to Hannibal about the outcome. Next week's promo has this great ice fishing scene and Will and Jack discussing a "bating fish" analogy, which could suggest that they are both working to set-up Hannibal.
But you also have to understand (looking at source material) that this story has a hyper-real anthropomorphic aspect to it, as Hannibal treads almost into "myth" and Harris also played with the idea that people in the FBI/law enforcement aren't always good or smart people just because they're in the FBI/law enforcement. There's potential for those people to be incredibly human and make mistakes...Hannibal is about if the idea of civility is a false facade for a more primal survival of the fittest truth
"He's the most unsympathetic character in the history of fiction."
In the novels, I would agree with you, but Raul Esparaza has played and been given material that allows for him to be much more compelling than the novels/films. In the past couple of episodes in particular he has shown sides of remorse and an ability to question himself. It's not that I think Chilton is a good person, but I was able to see a more human side to him than I ever imagined possible.
Poor, poor Gideon, Chilton, Miriam Lass! Hannibal is a diabolical monster................brilliant, but diabolical never the less. If Will is right, then Hannibal has done all this for personal curiosity, but most of all to make Will Graham his.......................friend?! The "Cannibal" is also making a complete "Fool" of Jack Crawford with this game. This episode shows the writers have moved this series into "Game of Thrones/Walking Dead" mode in that the writers are telling a story different from the source material making the series unpredictable. Excellent episode and looking forward to next Friday (no spoilers)! On a side note I thought Miriam "The Borg Lady" Lass prosthetic limb was pretty cool! I wonder if she can "Vader Choke" people with it (lol)? 4 A DR. LECTER DINNER INVITATION, I remain, Nobody!!!
I think he was shot in the neck (which people can survive! I read an article resonantly that says in modern times surviving gun shot wounds rely on getting help within the first hour also known as The Golden Hour...and if he did, it would interestingly parallel Gideon and Lass, as characters thought to be dead and contributed to further plot twists), but honestly I'll be mad if he didn't survive, because his presence is so iconic in both Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs, as Fuller is trying to present the whole Hannibal tale and some!
I also think Hannibal is suppose to not just encompass horror genre, but "myth" as an anthropomorphic tale and thus there has to be things that are highly unlikely/unusual to feed into the transformation man-beast and his own transformations of others aspects. Hannibal's whole existence is about getting control and struggling with the limitations of God and physics, but it's because he trying to regain things unjustly lost.
Will only told Hannibal that Chilton didn't survive. We actually don't see Chilton die... If Gideon and Lass get second lives, why can't the infamous Chilton? XD)
I also strongly disagree that Fuller has moved away from the source material as every single episode this season back shadows Hannibal Rising and foreshadow's Hannibal. In this episode for instance, novel fans might not only again be reminded of Starling through Lass because of her intelligence and FBI role, but she also completely juxtaposes Starling, as in Hannibal, Hannibal tries to manipulate and alter Starling (which Miriam also parallels Georgia who also parallels Starling - accent/farm house & death by "comb" alludes to "taste"), which he can not do, because she is too strong. And Alana is also reflecting Starling at the very end of the Hannibal novel, which was also alluded in the last episode with the "life as simple waltz" analogy.
PS: I would like to see a Darth Lass choke-hold! ;)
Now, It's highly possible that Bryan will make Chilton survive this incident. I do agree, it does set up a good setting for Jack and Will for "hooking" Hannibal to a bait.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
My God, the mind games between Will and Hannibal is just too crazzyy, lol.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Hannibal truly wrote a masterful play and to be a part for us to see, it was just well, memorizing.

ReplyDeleteIt seems like it. I think Jack saw that it wasn't Chilton, when Chilton gave up the chase from Jack.
ReplyDeleteI had the same question. Is Chilton dead? It would be really disappointing since he is one of the few characters from cannon.
ReplyDeleteI would be really shocked if he survived. I mean it was a shot to the head. I don't like people surviving a shot to the head, just seems very unrealistic. I meant in TV shows, lol.
ReplyDeleteYou gotta give it to Hannibal, he is really really good at framing people.

I also never understood why characters in a TV show can't see all the things which are seen by the audience.

Setting plot holes aside and making way for human falws, It's for irony and suspense.

Not how the law works, it doesn't matter if he's a slimy douche, he still has the right to a legal defence and trial to determine if he's guilty.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't that glass be bulletproof? I think that's weird.
ReplyDeleteAnd awesome acting by Anna Chlumsky! Wow, she stole very scene.

ReplyDeleteI loved this episode, but I'm sad to see Chilton go.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe there are only 6 episodes left.
I think he was shot in the neck (which people can survive! Apparently he was shot in the cheek region...

Could be difficult for Chilton while he is in coma. *lol*
ReplyDeleteAh! I see! I was wrong too, but ya it still could be possible depending on the exact trajectory. Thanks for the screen shot. Much appreciated! :)
