  1. This show has just become too damn brutal.

  2. HOLY FUCKING SHIT NOOOO MOIRA!!!! I knew that was coming but damn I feel like I have been stabbed repeatedly. Those last 10 minutes had me on the edge of my seat and that last scene was just too cruel. Speechless right now....

  4. Wow. Just WOW!!!

I was not expecting that at all! I don't post here too often and don't know if Moira had any fans, but I always liked her. I hate Slade and cannot wait until Oliver kills him!

    Great episode!

  5. I didn't know it was coming so I was pretty shocked! I really liked Moira. I will miss her.

I have never liked Slade or his anger w/Oliver over an impossible choice so I hope he kills Slade nice and slow!

  6. holy shitballs.
    This was fantastic !!!

    the good stuff -
    - Moiras death was both dramatic and well done

    - Susana Thompson was giving it her A game tonight !
    - Sara left, she's better served in small doses anyway
    - the episode felt like a filler until the final 10 minutes kicked off and turned it into the most story driven episode. Now THAT'S how you do it Arrow

    the meh stuff -
    - not going to talk much about the acting tonight, not letting Colton Haynes say a word was a good choice though

    - some more emotion Caity

    the interesting stuff -
    - and again Slade was merely featured in one single scene, his presence is really low at this point. It had a point in tonights episode but not the last few, is Bennett pissed at the production or something ?

    - so...Connor Hawk or Emiko anyone ? How about bringing in Komodo now ?

    overall: best episode this season

Omg I knew Moira was prob gonna die but that was brutal and in front of her children, this slade vendetatta has to end with Oliver killing him! I was heartbroken for Oliver and Thea! And I was left wondering from This episode does Oliver have a child out there?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I was not expecting that final scene to be set up in the exact same manner Shado died on the island. By Oliver choosing her to kill. I think that's the most messed up part about this whole situation. Now Moira's death will be a huge factor against killing Slade as soon as possible.

  9. I can't believe that episode was NOT the finale..and that there are STILL 3 episodes to go!…My heart won't be able to it…I gasped, flinched, looked away, cringed, laughed out loud, eyes bulged out, jaw dropped, if I wasn't holding my laptop - I might've fallen off the couch too! Just an incredible show tonight - no way I'm sleeping after that...

  10. I half expected Sara to come and rescue them….

Holy crap!! Ok first Im not a huge fan of Roy, but i dont hate him as a character and I thought he was a good threat definitely kept us distracted. I like Sara always have and this episode was good with her and for some reason im thinking by friend she means to find an enemy i dont know why but while I like her I wouldnt mind skipping an episode with her in it maybe put Laurel in next then have them both for the last 2 eps. Thea was great in this, Oliver was, Diggle has some good stuff, not really felicity but shes always good. Moira was phenomnal in this and I've always liked her shes a villain to me who gained redemption in the end. I like the flashbacks of her and Oliver I was really confused y they were showing flashbacks of that but now with Slade killing her it makes sense. Oliver has a kid though out there (just like in the comics i believe his kid's name is Connor) but is only like 6 right now. I thought Moira was great and I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING! I was so into it when she was about to tell them about Merlyn and then boom! And Slade omg I like Manu Bennet as Deathstroke he's great, love the character great villain but as I think the writers wanted, thats it he crossed the line killing Moira now he has to die! I want Slade to be a main cast member he's the best addition to the show from last year to the cast and I want him to stay but he is dead for what he did! I did not count on him doing that, and when he gets an arrow in his chest I will smile. Merlyn is my favorite villain but Deathstroke is the villain to hate especially now. I think I speak for all of us when I say its showdown time! I just imagine Oliver is Aragorn and he's leading everyone including us for the final battle against Deathstroke!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I have to say thought, the Sarah-Olivery break-up was very anti-climatic..eh…I understand though that all this is meant to bring Oliver down to his lowest so he can rise higher than ever…cannot wait.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am so speechless!! I did not see that last bit coming. Moira will be missed. I also thought that scene was wonderfully acted. A+ all around. I'm not a big fan of Colton's acting. It always seems so stiff. Also I like Sara, but I don't prefer her with Oliver. This episode was sooooo GOOD!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. SmallvilleSupernaturalCastle24 April 2014 at 02:30

it would have been more messed up if it was Thea who died, but I think its even worse because Moira sacrificed herself openly and that was the hardest thing. Slade I thought was going to give her mercy when he put the gun down then I see the sword and I screamed at the tv No!!

  15. SmallvilleSupernaturalCastle24 April 2014 at 02:31

I wonder if shes going to make it back for the funeral

    ReplyDelete
  16. Omg!!! What did they do that for!??!?!?! I'M CRYING HERE!!! That was really sad!! WTF?!?!?!?

Ok, i just gotta say. I fucking hate Slade right now. I don't love to hate him anymore. I just hate him. Oliver lost a lot in this episode. I don't even know what to think anymore. Guess i'll start slow this time.

Roy. Through the entire time he only said 3 words. I'm glad he didn't seriously hurt Sin or Thea. He didn't even TOUCH Felicity. Am i the only one confused about that?? Not saying I want her physically hurt with the rest of them, i just find it odd is all. Thea get's choked and thrown, Sara gets punched then thrown, Sin gets slapped and gets a shiner, Felicity...the table gets thrown. = / JS.

I'm glad Thea and Diggle had some scenes together. Idt that's ever happened. I can't really remember that happening at all, tbh. So that was nice.

The scene with Moira and Oliver having the talk in the office. Once she said I know the first time, I knew what she was referring to and i was surprised, then she said it two more times, and Oliver was taken aback. And it was so sweet. In that same moment. I thought Please NOT Moira!!! Then i was able to breathe b/c all three of them were in the car!!!! And she was gonna tell them about Malcolm. At first i was thinking, what about him now?? Then i remembered, "Oh yeah duh he's still alive" them BOOM!!! I did not see that crash coming!! That scared the shit outta me. Like a wtf just happened moment.

The entire ending scene i couldn't stop tearing. Then the flashbacks. Which were dead on, btw. Through the entire episode i was thinking my god, she's bribing this young girl. She's horrible!! But then i thought, she's still protecting her family. (i really don't think she was trying to protect her good name at that moment) And she did it out of love for Oliver. Now that doesn't excuse any of it but.....damn. That last flashback scene with the present scene really hit me. I have to move on..

Sin and Sara's scene. Was really nice. I was actually surprised that Sin doesn't know the whole story. This whole time i really thought she did. But nope. That was a nice little twist. I guess Sara kept her in the dark. And favorite Sin line of the night..."It made him strong. Like Comic Book strong." LOL that was cute.

Oliver and Felicity. (what kind of fan would i be if i didn't mention my OTP, duh! Not a very good one.)...Favorite Felicity line, "God you're heavy." Oliver- "I know." Haha i said awww. The one thing i like about Olicity are their talks. They always reassure each other in some way and i like it. I like that, after that little spat with Sara, he didn't dismiss her like she wasn't in the room. He actually vented. And she was there. And FTR, i am NOT happy about Sara's final decision..."going to see an old friend?" Who the hell is that?? LOA??

So now Ollie has lost 3 important people in his life.(not to mention his ability to walk, which i found sad but funny at the same time. idk why but i couldn't stop laughing, it was more of a you poor bastard laugh) In a what? 2 month period??? Now one more person has to suffer?? I don't like this at all. AND SLADE BETTER NOT TOUCH ONE HAIR ON FELICITY'S HEAD!!!

Heavy Sigh. And Lastly...You had courage, feistyness, grace, street smarts, and everything in between...R.I.P. Moira Queen.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Me too! I was screaming at the TV for her to come save them but no luck. I wonder who's this old friend she is going to see.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The way that the episode build up was kinda of a spoiler, since since the beginning it was like some sort of "redemption" of Moira. When shows use an episode to focus that much on a non-main character and try to show some sort of redemption, it's all over....

    ReplyDelete
  19. Can someone tell me when they can see my comment? B/c i can't see it right now.

  20. The last 15 minutes made up for the rest of the episode.

  23. maldito slade, espero que tenga una muerte dolorosa, mira me caia bien.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I really hope its Connor and that someday they will do a flash forward with him as Green Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  25. wow.... I had heard of the spoilers of an impending death, but wasn't sure who - but as soon as Moira revealed that she knew that Oliver was the Arrow, I figured her fate was sealed.... and to leave us without telling us what she was about to re: Merlyn, was cruel but well played. Obviously now Thea will have to be read in on everything possibly as she now knows that Slade was on the island as well.... didn't know what to think of Sarah's breakup and departure as at first it felt too convenient and quick, but it was plausible enough and am wondering how that will go. (I do question her timing as she knows full and well that an injured Oliver is about to go to war with psycho Slade and his minions and her family is bound to be affected in some way...) I am wondering if she was leaving to get help or what but I guess we'll just have to wait and see....

    ReplyDelete
  26. I knew that Moira would die in this season, i mean, if you look carefully in the past episodes, was a very strong hit about it. Especially after her scene with Slade at the Queen's mansion.

    ReplyDelete
  27. And i know that my babe Sara returns in the next episodes, since was released some new photos with her and Nyssa.

    ReplyDelete
  28. she did say to see an old friend

    ReplyDelete
  29. i have no words for this episode... well i have.
We all thought it was about Roy but we were so wrong. Moira's storyline both on Flashbacks and actual were great,SHE KNEW ABOUT OLIVER! DAMN that was a great moment and her final moments were amazing, my mouth drop to the floor on those last five minutes, now there is no way Slade is going to get the cure and he said there is still one more person to get his revenge

    ReplyDelete
  30. My guess is someone from the League of Assassins...wouldn't it be awesome if they came in to fight against slade's mirakuru army?! That or **SPOILERS** it's been rumored that John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) is coming back...maybe it has something to do with him.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So I just have to say this...I love your URL name...some of the best (and the best) shows I've ever seen! ;) Well that and Arrow and Tomorrow People :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree about Sara...I can like her...but not when she's with Oliver, then she kinda ticks me off...I liked her more as a solo act.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I know! Slade is just horrible. I cannot wait until he's dead!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I did too! I wanted someone to save them! Poor Moira!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think Nyssa is supposed to appear again, so my guess is that's whom she was referring to.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Virginia Fontana24 April 2014 at 03:53

    Tragic, compelling, excellent episode.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The rest of the episode was pretty terrible. The editing was even worse than the writing, somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  38. What an excellent episode. Having the main focus be Roy only for Slade to appear so suddenly when nobody was expecting it, such a great move on behalf of the writers. It really amps up the danger of Slade's presence and gives the viewers a major reason to want him dead. What with the size of the sword and Moira's sacrificial death, it reminded me quite a bit of Aerith from Final Fantasy VII, in image and creator intent haha...

    ReplyDelete
  39. So now Slade has to die. Like a LOT.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think she was going to tell them that Merlyn was still alive.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I thought Slade was going to make him choose between Laurel and Sara. This was much better. Or worse, if you're Ollie.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nah, they have to have Laurel be the one who is there for him. Just like she was in the last episode when he was moping.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I wonder who will replace Moira to run for Mayor? or does Blood win now?

    ReplyDelete
  44. i'm still too shocked!

    ReplyDelete
  45. SmallvilleSupernaturalCastle24 April 2014 at 05:47

thanks lol yea great shows and yea I would add Arrow and Tommorrow People if there was room lol especially Arrow

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh c'mon!! It's a quarter to 2!! It's not like i was Richard Pryor!

    ReplyDelete
  47. so moira knew for a year she shot her son

    ReplyDelete
  48. At 1st I was underwhelmed with the backstory on Ollies pregnancy scandal. It felt uninteresting at the time. But when you see where the episode leads, and the choices made by Moira in the flashbacks, it really feels right in the story.
    Amazing episode all around.
We were promised a Roy-centric episode for this episode titled "Seeing Red", and we got it. I know a lot of people whine about Colton's acting at times. But I think he is playing the role of Roy on Mirakuru well. I'm actually invested in the character right now, and to see how they can fix him.
Last, but certainly not least. Moira. I've actually been a fan of her character for awhile. When the show 1st started I wasn't, because we were made to not like her with how she had Ollie kidnapped in the pilot, but she has shown time & time again that everything she does is for her kids. What a heartbreaking, and exceptional send off for such a strong character.
I guess now we know who the funeral in 2x21 was for that those pics slipped out of.
    RIP Moira Queen

    ReplyDelete
  49. The first half of the episode...terrible. I have no idea what was worse, Thea's "I let you down when you broke up with me" speech, the sudden "I got someone pregnant story-line", the cheesy dialogues, and I am really tired of the Mirakuru being the to-go explanation for everything. In fact the whole "Roy escapes" subplot was useless. The actors did their very best with it (kudos to them), but it nevertheless felt like "let's fill some time before we come to the important stuff we really want to tell".
Not sure how I feel about the ending...it was...dramatic...but now the show is down one of its most interesting characters.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sarah & Oliver aren't overly emotional people in that way. Would have seemed forced if they DID have some emotional break up scene IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't know what to say about this episode other then i was awesome and awful at the same time.
    RIP Moira Queen.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Being a "comic book" series, I wonder if something will be done to bring Moira back (hello Lazarus pits). I do think her death will be what brings Merlyn and Oliver to work together against Slade. I knew she was going to "die" once she acknowledged she knew Oliver was Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Blood now wins. smh.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Sarah is bringing Ras back.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think the pregnancy scandal isn't over. Oliver has a child, somewhere. That will be used by Merlyn, I think, in S3.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm expecting Merlyn will use that info, not the mother.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Side note: when Slade did his little speech about Moira not passing on her courage to Oliver, I wanted Oliver to say: Fuck you, that's exactly what I did too, I offered myself but Ivo shot Shado instead.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yes, that whole speech about lack of courage pissed me off. Slade's self-righteous act is getting old. He really needs to die soon.

    ReplyDelete
  59. He's coming back and will be a major villain in S3. He will love having this hold over Oliver. "I know who your son is..."

    ReplyDelete
  60. Aryam Manzueta Avila24 April 2014 at 11:58

Now we know that when Merlyn come back, he will work with the Arrow team.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I wasn't too fond of the episode until the last 10 minutes or so. Those last 10 minutes or so just blew me away. moreso than the death of Moira I thought the real twist was that she knew about Oliver's secret identity for over a year. That was a very dark sequence I must say when Moira was stabbed. I thought I was watching a dream sequence or something at that point. CW has certainly changed over the years. Including much more dark elements into shows. EX: The 100 also killing over 200+ people in one episode to save a dying ark. But all that chaos aside, I wonder who Sara is going to meet? "An old friend". So not her dad or sister. someone to help in the fight perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  62. IMO Sara is going back to Ras, and her old friend is Ras's daughter. She is doing it for two reasons: can't find her place with Oliver, but also, will give a deal to get their help against Slade.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Holy.... that was just so sad. Especially since you just knew there was no way all three would make it out alive...

    ReplyDelete
  64. That's what I think too..how else are they going to kill an army of Miraku-driven soldiers….epic battle coming!

    ReplyDelete
  65. And I think Oliver isn't running away, but looking for more allies as well. Maybe even is the one who approaches Merlyn for help!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Honestly Moira's death is more painful and shocking than any of those so called deaths in Game of Thrones.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Just finished the episode. Crying as hell. I never loved Moira but God that choice's scene was trully heartbreaking!! When the car get crushed I litteraly jumped out my chair, did not expected any of this, I said to myself before the episode, it's episode 20 it's going to be the calm before the storm of the season finale but yeah... obviously I was wrong.
Too bad really I loves the fact that she knew since the Undertaking and covered for him whenThea ask where he was. I really thought Sara was the one to die, specially after her speech to Olliver, but I guess the season is not over yet so she's still not safe. God Arrow you're killing me!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am wondering how Nyssa or even Ra's al Ghul is gonna react to Sara's return. I mean yes Nyssa did set her free, but Ra's al Ghul is still the head of LOA. And Nyssa probably was most likely exposed to Ra's wrath for her action. I really hope they show us the interactions and how Sara convinces them to come to Starling (i have enough of producers explaining in interviews rather than showing us on the screen).

    ReplyDelete
  69. Maybe I missed that in episode but are we sure it is son?

    ReplyDelete
  70. THANK YOU. It seems kinda stupid at this point. Even though they did offer the explanation that the Mirakuru drives a person crazy and makes them see things, Slade's reasons to hate Oliver are beyond stupid. What makes you any better than him by purposefully killing the people he loves? The character is no longer in the love to hate category for me. Kill him now and make sure he stays dead this time.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think it will be simple: I give my allegiance back to you if you do this for me. She is already thinking about doing this, justifying it by saying she can't change who she is.

    ReplyDelete
  72. No but I'm just guessing it will be.

    ReplyDelete
  73. But will the show actually show us or will the producers explain it in interviews. I am just wondering if Ra's will be so quickly to accept her.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I wasn't particularly looking forward to this episode as it would be very Roy-centric. I thought this episode would just be filler before the final three episodes leading up to the finale. I knew it was necessary to have this kind of episode that was focused on Roy, but I wasn't overly excited about it. This was true for about 75% of the episode, until the last 7 minutes or so.

Sadly Moira's death was spoiled for me by the photo on the Arrow Facebook when I saw a comment that Queen was dead. Then when I saw the headline of the TVLine recap (Mother of a twist), I knew it had to be true. At first I thought she died in the crash, but her death was way more shocking than I thought it would be. I kept hoping Slade wouldn't kill her with his sword, but unfortunately he did it that way. I really liked Moira and Susanna Thompson is one of the best actors/actresses on the show. Tonight's episode also showed Thompson giving her A game for her last episode. I can't wait to see what's next for her!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Holy shit! I'm fucking pissed at Slade now. I really hope he dies a tragic death. I am hoping for Oliver to devise a killing strategy where he just kill Slade in cold blood, no mercy and full of pain. I really like Moira and now she's gone! I'm bawling my eyes out! She's a freaking terrific mother and Slade took her away from her children. Oliver is coming to you Slade, you get fucking ready to die now you stupid Slade! I really thought Slade was sparing Moira for the courage speech but he fucking stabbed her with a fucking sword! I hate you Slade! I hope you die a horrible death on the hand of Oliver and Thea!! Shado wasn't even yours and you have no right to make it feel like you were the only one in misery for Shado's death. You fucking bastard!!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I was really sad to see Moira die, the scene was heartbreaking. I was not so sad to see Sarah leave, hope she stays away for a little while.
Also, I´m guessing Oliver´s child might come for a visit in the finale....if not, what was the point of the flashback.

    ReplyDelete
  77. This is right, I mean why murder Moira now? I really hope Oliver kills Slade this pissed me off.

I hope this is the last death of the season, I hope they not kill Sarah.

    ReplyDelete
  78. No it isn't..not at all

    ReplyDelete
  79. It was mega:) cried & shouted at the tv, sad but great episode

    ReplyDelete
  80. What just happened? Did that really happen?!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Totally agree with you. For me it wasn't just Colton, I thought Stephen's acting was pretty mediocre, I was expecting more from him in that last scene. At this point Thea has become more insufferable to me than Laurel her emo breakdowns are getting old it's not like Oliver's life has been a piece of
    cake, grow up already!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Holy cow I did not see this one coming!!!! Awesome episode!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I really hope iritating Laurel will stay far far away and Felicity be there for him!

    ReplyDelete
  84. first of all... this was a absolutely AWESOME episode!!!
i had always imagine that slade would make oliver chose between two women from his life. but i have to admit i had never imagine it would be moira and thea..! the scene was totally heartbreaking.

    felicity "god you're heavy" -> i loved it :D

i was a bit sad when sarah broke ab with oliver, but when she said " but i'm not that person, and i never would be" and then looked back to felicity's chair. my olicity feels *__* x3 ^^
    btw, was felicity still there?

oliver has a child! wtf!? i hope slade doesn't know that... not that at the end oliver learns that he has a child only to see slad hurting it...

    ReplyDelete
  85. who do you think sarah was referring to when she sait 'seen an old frien'?

    ReplyDelete
  86. It will come into play eventually somewhere down the line. When & HOW, who knows.
They wouldn't have made a point of bringing it up if they didn't have some game plan down the road for it.

    ReplyDelete
  87. did the actress playing arrow's mother wanted to leave the show so they killed her off/ Because it all seemed so forced. All of a sudden we learn that she knows her son is the arrow, even though i can hardly think of any clue from the writers in previous episodes that would hint about her knowledge. What was the point of the entire "I wanna be a mayor" plot? They could have killed her without that dead end filler subplot.

    ReplyDelete
  88. her lesbian lover. The league of assasins will help her get rid of slayde.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I hope he does not come back, I hate the actor, he is not scary at all and trying to be scary makes his character even more funny...terrible choice of an actor imo.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Aryam Manzueta Avila24 April 2014 at 21:09

He is coming back for the finale though. Correct me if I'm wrong

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm speechless. I honestly don't understand what just happened. I don't believe it. I don't want to believe it. I refuse to believe, that Susanna Thompson and her beautiful, graceful face will no longer be on Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Sorry bout to burst your bubble by in the season finale they will be death again.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Where did you hear that?

    ReplyDelete
  94. on here lol. when they posted spoilers for 39 shows.

    ReplyDelete
  95. you believing that the season finale will consist no death?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Am I the only one who wasn't that upset that Moira died? I mean I was starting to like her, but I wasn't too much of a fan (of her character) before these past few episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  97. That was a flashback but yeah her view of Oliver has changed since she knows his secret.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Moria was like a mother to Laurel. Quit making Laurel out to be a nobody. She has a history with the Queen family that Felicity doesn't have.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Also Moira was like a mother to Laurel so that's another reason she'd be at the funeral.

    ReplyDelete
  100. She left to find an old friend and there's no way Sara would know where they were when Slade had them. Even Felicity didn't know where they were.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Don't expect cartoon fairly tale happy endings on Arrow. Horrible things happen.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Ra's is not the old friend. It's most likely Nyssa who was also her lover. Ra's isn't going to be in Starling City this season. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I finally got around to watching the episode and I feel so empty right now. As emotional and heart wrenching that scene made me feel, my word wasn't it a fantastic scene?? I've always been a fan of Moira so to say I'm devastated is a understatement. Thea and Oliver's reactions broke me. Someone needs to take down Slade's psycho ass asap!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I don't care if she's at the funeral, what I meant was she should stay away from Oliver!

  105. I have had a long annoying exhausting week. Was thrilled to have a new Arrow to watch before crawling into bed. The added bonus was being caught completely off guard by that ending. I know how stories are going to play out so frequently that when I am caught off guard it's awesome. So, for me, this episode was awesome.

I was happy to find that Moira had guessed that Oliver is the Arrow. I have grown sick of Thea's tirades. I hope those are over. Granted the cops can't handle Roy in his current state but I don't see how there is any coming back from this episode. Looking forward to next week. Devastated Oliver is not going to be calm Arrow.

I honestly hope, it never does. The last thing this show needs, is something else for Oliver to feel guilty about.

  107. In the comics, he has a son by a woman he had a 1 night stand with who turns into Connor Hawke, the person that eventually takes over from the Green Arrow. So yes, at some point.... Connor will come into play somewhere down the line. Whether its this season, or 3 years down the road...they will bring this into play eventually.
