ReplyDeleteNo surprise, but worth pointing out it's US only.

ReplyDeleteFor those saying it's US only, you can easily find it on torrent.
ReplyDeleteTwo words: freaking awesome.
ReplyDeleteIt was good, very good. I said to the TV what the fuck about 5 times.
ReplyDeleteBetter than expected!
ReplyDeleteA solid foundation laid out by the pilot that should make for a very fun and intriguing series!
The cast was solid...
Of course Timothy Dalton, Simon Russel Beale and Harry Teadway were awesome, but Eva Greene was surprisingly adequate! I am not a Josh Hartnett fan whatsoever, but he handled himself well in the role of the bravado-filled gunman Ethan Chandler.
So many of these actors I wanted to see on Game of Thrones in the coming seasons, I find it a bit sad they most likely will not be able to since I see this series lasting! The consolation is Penny Dreadful should be a series I look forward to every week!
Man that was awesome. Great Cast, Great Story, and Awesome graphic scenes.
ReplyDeleteIt was a really nice intro episode, you understand what the world will be like, what enemy lie ahead of them, and more.
Once you know the last name of Timothy Dalton's character you go, oh I see who he is hunting.
I loved Eva Green as whatever she was, always composed and mysterious what is she. And that smile was awesome.
Hope Josh Hartnett's character Ethan Chandler joins the group soon.
The last scene was really well done.
Asd expected this was awesome!! Timothy Dalton and Eva Green are brilliant in this.-
ReplyDeleteJust finished watching. I thought it was awesome. Creepy as hell but awesome nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteYou are spot on.
ReplyDeleteSir Malcom's last name being Murray likely makes him Mina Murray's father. Mina Murray was the love interest/ desired victim of Bram Stoker's Dracula (played by Winoa Ryder in the movie).
Yes you are correct. Basically when I heard his last name I got the whole picture and who his daughter was and that was neat. So it is most likely Dracula he is hunting.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Eva Green's character is someone capable of a lot, just from that one scene when the boss vamp froze when she stood in front of him.
Thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteRegarding Eva Green - most likely she has some powers that will be revealed later on. I too noticed how that vampire froze (to me, he looked afraid of her) when she came between him and Sir Malcolm.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on Ives character!
ReplyDeleteI don't recall the name from any literature, but she seems to be a very powerful mentalist haunted by her past. I wonder if there is a character from literature she is based on.... I also get the feeling she could be much older than she appears.
Okay, one ore doubt, then I am done bothering you.
ReplyDeleteWhen we last see Ethan in the episode, he is standing in the shadows in front of a house and looking towards a window from where a woman is gazing out. A carriage appraoches, a man gets out and Ethan rushes away. My understanding was that it was Malcolm's house, he was the one who got down from the carriage and the woman in the window was Vanessa Ives. Am I correct? Also, why did Ethan get so emotional and run away? Was he reminded of his past from which he has been running? (to which Vanessa had hinted at in a previous scene)
Haunted by her past, you say? So the scenes when she's praying (spiders and heavy breathing, almost snorting and the voice ("I am hungry") could be past experiences manifesting as haunted visions? Or were they real?
ReplyDelete" then she is holding behind a beast within her or something along that line. And it wants to craw out and eat something?"
ReplyDelete^^^^
Oooh!! Now this is a very interesting theory.
No clue honestly! XD
ReplyDeleteI was trying to think of people she could be based on and I found a Saint Ives /
Ia of Cornwall. Not a lot is known about her but she was reputed to have powers given from God.She was matyred in the 5th or 6th century.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ia_of_Cornwall
If she is bsed on that woman she would be very old indeed! XD
Just a wild theory though. No real evidence or connection to the story that I can tell from the pilot.
Yes you are correct in that also. Ethan Was standing in the shadows pondering whether he should join then or be wise and leave town. I think he was interested after the card pull but then he saw the murder of the mother and daughter and maybe pondered if it might be better to leave. I suspect something will change his mind soon tho maybe the Billie Piper character as it was hinted at in some press release.
ReplyDeleteAnd yea it was Malcolm entering house.
And back to Eva Green's character I heard that was was designed specify for this show as a connection for the cast to come together so it might be a semi new metrology for her.
They had me with the first scene...................."Woman on the $#!TT3R" (No Spoilers)! Dark and disturbing with great performances especially from Dalton and Greene. Now I really can't wait until this series starts.............thanks a lot SHOWTIME! Between Salem (WGN) and this pilot I am getting over my divorce from "Lost Girl", but I still miss Zoie and Ksenia though! 4 A PENNY FULL OF DREAD, I am Nobody!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a question. What is exactly the nature of Eva Green and Timothy Dalton in the series? Are they lovers?
ReplyDeleteI don't think they commented on their past relationship...
ReplyDeleteCurrently he is just her employer I think, but she was flirty with Josh Hartnett's character.
Thank you. There was definetely chemistry beteen them. I thought that when Ethan saw her at the window of Murray's room, he was disapointed thinking she was Murrray's lover, and that's why he left (also because of the creepy monsters and everything, of course). Was I wrong??
ReplyDeleteMaybe? XD
ReplyDeleteI took it more as Chandler being sacred of Vanessa Ives and what the future may hold.
I can see it both ways though....I might watch it again and I will pay more attention to that scene when I do!
This was awesome, loved it. 52 minutes went by flying! I couldn't believe it was already over. I wonder if they can keep the quality through the rest of the season. There were times I thought I was watching a movie.
ReplyDeleteThe pace was very slow and the cinematography isn't good enouh to be able to afford that.
ReplyDeleteBut besides that poin I think it was very good, very intriguing. I love the cast and that final scene with Dr. Frankenstein and his monster was incredible, creepy but sweet at the same time.
I'm expecting very good things from this one.
Also the dialogue, was good but I feel like there was something missing, even if I can't put my finger on what that is exactly I'm pretty sure everything will improve by next episode as shows usually do.
After seeing many pilots where they try to thorw all the information at you in the pilot it's very refreshing to see a hint of something they'll show later.
ReplyDeleteI just felt like saying that when I read you comment.
