UNPRECEDENTED RISE FOR BBC AMERICA’S ORPHAN BLACK SEASON TWO PREMIERE
VIEWERS DOUBLE TO 1.58M
HIGHEST LIFT FOR A DRAMA PREMIERE THIS SEASON
New York – April 25, 2014 – BBC AMERICA’s award-winning thriller, Orphan Black, doubled its P2+ and A25-54 audience in Live+3 from Live+SD. The Live+3 audience totalled* 1,577,000 (premiere and three replays over the weekend), including 927,000 Adults 25-54 and 909,000 Adults 18-49.
The premiere, which aired on Saturday April 19, had already recorded its highest-ever A18-49 delivery in Live+SD (391K), and increased 91% in Live+3 to 746,000. Orphan Black is second only to the channel’s highest rated series, Doctor Who, in A18-49.
The Live+3 lift from Live+SD for the Orphan Black season two premiere ranks #1 among all TV drama season premieres thus far in the 2013/14 TV season.
In Live+3, the season two premiere is now well ahead of the season one premiere in all three demos – up 41% in P2+, 52% in A25-54, and 65% in A18-49.
BBC AMERICA General Manager, Perry Simon, commented: “We have been overwhelmed by the tremendous critical and social media reaction to this show. Our viewers are some of the most affluent and tech savvy in television, and clearly a huge number of them set their DVRs to make sure they didn’t miss it.”
In addition, Orphan Black was the #1 television show on Twitter and Tumblr for the day of premiere and was the #1 basic cable drama on Twitter for the week.
The Peabody Award winning series is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with BBC AMERICA and Bell Media. Orphan Black’s first season premiered on BBC AMERICA on Saturday, March 30, 2013 following the season premiere of Doctor Who.

ReplyDeleteNow that's more like it, I was a little surprised when the premiere didn't reach a million but I guess it being on a Saturday night its very much a catch-up show.
ReplyDeleteJust finished the fifth episode of the first season, I'm really hooked.
ReplyDeleteThose are amazing numbers for BBC America. Congrats to the show.
ReplyDeleteJust wait until Helena and Sarah meet up!
ReplyDeleteNext season I hope BBC tries a new night of the week. I firmly believe OB could reach one million live viewers if it wasn't airing on Saturdays.
ReplyDeleteOh they've met already :)
ReplyDeleteNo I mean really meet up as in show down.
