Michael C. Hall is coming back to TV. The Dexter star is currently working out a deal to play famed feminist and social reformer Susan B. Anthony in an eight-part HBO miniseries tentatively called SBA: Diary of an Important Woman.
The former Six Feet Under alum is excited to get back on TV with another colorful character. "I played a gay funeral home owner, I played a straight serial killer, and now I'm playing a girl. This is fun!"
Michael C. Hall is aware that this might be viewed as an odd casting choice by some inevitable detractors. "They will think I can't play the part of Susan B. Anthony just because of my gender. I know I will being discriminated on because I'm a man. And isn't that what Susan has been fighting against her whole life?"
Hall knows some people will have difficulty seeing him as the leader of the women's suffrage movement. "Much like when I accepted the role of Dexter Morgan after being David Fisher on Six Feet Under, many people couldn't see me portray a character that was the exact opposite of what I'd been playing for 5 years. I think I proved them wrong, and I think I will impress them with my rendition of Susan B. Anthony. I have already started to practice speaking like a woman, I try to complain more, and I spend more time in the kitchen and the bathroom."
This will be Michael C. Hall's first role on TV since the universally acclaimed ending of Dexter last fall. "I remember having chills when I read the script of the finale", he quips. "It just felt like the natural ending Dexter needed. I think we ended the show at the right time, we didn't want to overstay our welcome for at least four seasons. Seeing Dexter lying on the floor of his killroom in a pool of blood, his trophies shattered on the floor, as the police was closing in on him is an iconic ending that I think will live on as one of the greatest moments in TV history".
Nothing has leaked about the Susan B. Anthony script written by Work It creator Ted Cohen and Two and a Half Men's Chuck Lorre, but we've learned that this is a modern take on the life of the American suffragist, as the action will take place nowadays in Argentina. "It's just easier for us. Michael has a buckload of Dexter money, he just bought this huge house in Buenos Aires and wants to film there, so we agreed. This is what's called artistic freedom", said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo, who is "beyond elate" to be working again with Hall, nine years after the end of Six Feet Under.
Casting for supporting roles is currently underway, but we hear rumors that Megan Fox and Chase Crawford have been reading for the part of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, while Willow Smith is rumored to be the frontrunner to play the young Carrie Chapman Catt.
Filming will start next month with Larry Charles at the helm of all eight episodes. SBA is expected to start airing in 2015 on March 8, also known as International Women's Day.

That's some bold casting!
ReplyDeleteI went ... wut and then I realized it's already April 1st in other countries. A+
ReplyDeleteOkay, what???
ReplyDeleteWTF! I love Michael but not sure how I feel about this
ReplyDeleteI don't, I can't, I won't...... Speechless but also super excited. if Michael can pull this off then it could definitely start a trend, an odd trend, but a trend nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteOh my God. Did not expect this at all!
ReplyDeleteits 1 apil, april fools day, you cant fool me.
ReplyDeleteFirst I was like "WTF". Then I realized what day is tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI hate April fools.
I hope he gets the Daredevil one tho.
Only michael could pull this off
ReplyDeleteThat was a good one!! April Fools!!!
ReplyDeleteAgreed
ReplyDeleteSaw this and I gotta say thanks spoilertv for that disturbing mental image. :p
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha You got me!
ReplyDeleteOh my God, I thought this was for real then I got to the part "Casting for supporting roles is currently underway, but we hear rumors that Megan Fox and Chase Crawford have been reading for the part of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, while Willow Smith is rumored to be the frontrunner to play the young Carrie Chapman Catt."
ReplyDeleteNo way that could be true. Nice April Fools, SpoilerTV! XD
Hehehehehehehehehehehehe!!! Good one. Nice try. On to the next.
ReplyDeletehahaha love it good work!! if you click on the HBO source too you get a picture of a frog!
ReplyDeleteI really hope Michael gets the Daredevil role too. He would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteReports indicate that Oprah Winfrey will guest in the third episode as Booker T. Washington making her HBO series debut. She indicated that she couldn't pass up this opportunity to work with Chuck Lorre. Dan Stevens of Downton Abbey fame is expected to take on the recurring role of Teddy Roosevelt.
ReplyDeleteOMFG I THOUGHT THIS WAS REAL!
ReplyDeleteI totally forgot tomorrow was April Fools. Rather than this speak to my idiocy I feel it should speak to Michael's acting talent since I'm actually thinking he could pull it off.
ReplyDeleteTook me a split second before I realized that you're ahead of us here in the US. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe only things he has going for him there are that he has reddish hair and can play mentally unhinged. Matt Murdock is handsome and incredibly charming and for both the physicality of the role and to tie in with any of the comic storylines would need to be younger and extremely fit, hopefully with a martial arts background. Hair can be coloured but the rest needs to be in the package.
ReplyDeleteThe moment I read "This will be Michael C. Hall's first role on TV since the universally acclaimed ending of Dexter," I knew this had to be a joke
ReplyDeleteThis is such an interesting decision and one that actually really suits the character. As someone who stood for equality I'm sure Susan would be all for boundary free casting.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's unexpected, but I can see it I guess.
ReplyDeleteMichael C. Hall sure makes bold choices, and as a huge Chuck Lorre fan, I can't wait for this.
Thanks for the info, Andy!
Seems like an unnecesarily controversial choice, I mean I love him and I know he's capable of killing it but to me it's the same as casting a white guy to play Mandela, doesn't make much sense.
ReplyDeleteOH THANK GOD!!! It was just a joke. April Fool's. I knew something was up when I read "universally acclaimed finale".
ReplyDeleteOMG! Fantastic!. Can't wait to see how this turns out XD
ReplyDeleteAaron Paul as Eleanor Roosevelt or get out!
ReplyDeleteSo, It's still March over here.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'. :)
This is the dumbest part in the history of this website. Wish I wouldn't have wasted my fucking time reading it.
ReplyDeleteI would probably cry if I forgot tomorrow was April Fools Day and they announced that Fringe was coming back. That would pain me to the core haha
ReplyDeleteOh my god!
ReplyDeleteWait what! For a second I thought Susan was a dude with a girls name. then I wiki it to be sure, and go woa. I must watch this for the love of Michael C Hall, and the curiosity of how it will look.
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting HBO got themself hundreds of viewers to see how he plays this part
ReplyDeleteMillions of people and the media have called Michael handsome and charming, so we'll tick that caveat off. Check out Michael's physical agility at the age of 41 in Dexter Season 7, so we'll check that one off too. Get on the internet more and you'll find a wave of approval for Michael as Daredevil. And in fact, Matt Murdock is one character who doesn't have to be in his 30s. But it's all subjective in the end. Daniel Craig got the Bond role at 38 but has been looking 48 since Casino Royale.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Wow, this is so detailed, I thought it had to be real for a moment. I love that whoever wrote this used the ending of Breaking Bad to describe the "iconic, natural ending" of Dexter. Comparing the two will never get old. ;)
ReplyDeleteoh lord, not even 5 hours in... I should just sleep through the day.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite bit is script written by Work It creator Ted Cohen and Two and a Half Men's Chuck Lorre</I' seriously my idea of TV hell!
ReplyDeleteBAZINGA!
ReplyDeleteIt was the description of the dexter finale as critically acclaimed part that made me realize this was a joke
ReplyDeleteHahahaha, love it. Great one :P
ReplyDeleteOK, you overplayed the April Fool's joke. Might have gotten us had you not said "critically acclaimed Dexter finale". And then said it was written by the guy who gave us Work It.
ReplyDeleteHow I almost fell for this, I don't know.
ReplyDeleteNo show would take the chance and have a guy play a woman's part. That usually only happens in plays when woman are unavailable.
I remember reading a few years ago an April Fool's joke saying that 24 was coming back for a 9th season...oh wait.
ReplyDeleteYou never know, Michael C. Hall might do this someday :P
Theis obviously an APRIL FOOLS joke - you all are so gulible
