LOS ANGELES, CA (April 4, 2014) – SHOWTIME and Fox 21 announced today that the Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award-winning drama series HOMELAND will begin production in Cape Town, South Africa. Season four will find Carrie Mathison (Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe Award winner Claire Danes) assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where she is back on the front lines in the war on terror. The series will begin production in mid-June and shoot through November of this year. The network's No. 1 rated series with an average of seven million weekly viewers, HOMELAND's fourth season will premiere this fall on SHOWTIME.
“We've been so lucky to work with one of the best crews in the business for the last three seasons in Charlotte,” said Homeland showrunner and executive producer Alex Gansa. “We knew going into season four that we would need to move the production overseas to tell the story of Carrie returning to the Middle East as chief of station. We are thrilled to have found a new home in Cape Town and look forward to getting season four production off the ground.”
HOMELAND tells the story of Carrie Mathison (Danes), a bi-polar CIA officer who plays by her own rules. At the end of last season Carrie, pregnant with the late Brody's (Damian Lewis) baby, along with her mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin), brought a significant and much-needed win for the agency and country at large. Along with Danes and Patinkin, Emmy nominee Rupert Friend will return for season four, along with Nazanin Boniadi, who was recently promoted to a series regular.
HOMELAND tied for the most wins of any program at the 2012 Emmy Awards, honored with six wins including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama Series; and garnered 11 Emmy nominations in 2013. Additionally, HOMELAND has been awarded Golden Globe Awards, SAG, Peabody, Television Critics Association, AFI and Critics' Choice Awards. The series was developed for American television by Alex Gansa &Howard Gordon, and based on the original Israeli series "Prisoners of War" by Gideon Raff. Along with Gansa, Gordon and Raff, the executive producers for season four are Alexander Cary, Chip Johannessen, Meredith Stiehm, Avi Nir and Ran Telem.

I'm intrigued as to how they can continue the story. Homeland for me was always about Brody
ReplyDeletefantastic location to shoot. enviromental variety (you'll find deserts, woods and various other enviroments to fake a foreign scenery), right next to a modern town, streets are usually pretty wide so dolly shots aren't going to be too hard to do, crews over there are rather cheap to hire and for a show like Homeland showcasing the clash of poverty and wealth is also fairly easy to do there.
ReplyDeleteI'm so disappointed. I was expecting them to come to Turkey for the shooting but they're going to South Africa. They will show Cape Town as Istanbul, which is a big mistake. I hope they reflect Istanbul truly. Istanbul is a world city and merges the East and West culture. A unique city in terms of connecting Asia and Europe. What a pity, they're not coming Istanbul.
ReplyDeleteI think they have decided not to have Carrie stationed in Istanbul. The press release states Carrie is "assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East." That does not sound like Istanbul to me.
ReplyDeleteActually, it could be a possibility. Yes, the definition of the press release has definitely nothing to do with Istanbul. Here (In Turkey), there was news saying the Turkish actor named Kerem Bürsin ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2792064/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) would appear in Season 4. Even, there were a lot of actors who went to the test shootings.
ReplyDeleteAs a resident of Cape Town, I am extremely excited that Homeland production is coming here. A wise choice indeed as Cape Town is a beautiful place and the scenery is magnificent. A film hotspot no doubt about that! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait till the next season of Homeland. I'm a big fan and I created the Fanpage for Homeland so I had something on my mind.
