This episode was a huge improvement over, well, most of the season! It's taken us a long time to get here, but some things are finally turning around, such as Zoe and Lemon getting more screentime together, Zoe starting to try and move on from Joel, and cracks showing in Wade and Vivian's relationship. In other news, Lavon was jealous about AnnaBeth's new romance, while George pined for Lemon and Brick chased Magnolia all over the place. Let's discuss!
Zoe got sick of the townsfolk needling her over her post-Joel grief, and after getting run over by a bicyclist (as a fellow klutz, I know how easy that is) who flirted with her, she decided to get back into the dating scene to prove that she could. The episode title referred not only to Zoe's attempt to resume her love life, but also to Lemon's similar endeavour. After declaring a "man cleanse," about two seconds later, Lemon ran into Peter, the hottie commitment phobe journalist she'd had a fling with on Halloween. With Zoe ensnared in a beyond-awkward date with a bragging, air-headed dentist and Lemon caught between wanting to hook up with Peter but knowing he'd never settle down, they each needed some serious girl talk advice. And AnnaBeth, because she knows what's up, was too busy making out with Davis to deal with all that pandemonium. So she brilliantly urged Zoe and Lemon to turn to each other in their moment of need.
Seeing Zoe, AB, and Lemon unite as the girlfriend three musketeers of Bluebell at the end of the hour was sweet and fun, as well as hopefully an indication that they will continue to have adventures as a trio.
Speaking of AnnaBeth, I really felt for her annoyance as a drunken Lavon showed up at her door to complain about her new relationship with a Gainey. I can sympathize with Lavon a little, mostly because I love him as a character, but otherwise...man, you had every chance in the world to lock that down. And you didn't because you weren't sure it was meant to be. So I agree with AB that after everything Lavon put her through, he has no right to express jealousy or try to thwart her trying to find love again. AB was also so cuttingly, precisely wise and correct in telling Lavon, "there are no words." A great scene.
George definitely still has feelings for Lemon, which is an interesting (?) and unexpected direction for the show to be taking him, as I really do not sense she still feels that way about him in return. Again, I'm not sure where they are going with this, so I will take a wait-and-see stance. I feel that George is one character who has been in plotline limbo for quite a while now, and could use some real momentum soon.
Wade finally started to wake up to the extremely obvious fact that Vivian is still in love with her ex-husband. Viv and Charles are so meant for each other, it's hard to believe they ever broke up to begin with. Hence, after dragging Wade through countless boring, inane Wilkes family gatherings (I'm so ready to stop attending those myself, as a viewer) and finally promising him a date night, Vivian was all too happy to interrupt said date and go traipsing off to her former husband and reunite her little family in a sense that's better for their son anyway. When Wade saw that Charles was still around the morning after, albeit platonically, the truth was clear as day: he'd put all his energies into a relationship that was intrinsically doomed from the start. On some level, has Wade always sensed this? In any case, it will be intriguing to see what he does about it now.
Brick caught Magnolia throwing an apparently annual kegger at his house, tricking him into leaving her party zone open by sending him on a wild goose chase to a nonexistent party at Carter Covington's. This was a fun little sidebar to the episode, as it's always cute to see these characters try to work out their issues. Magnolia requested to be sent to a new boarding school rather than back to Grandma's...I guess she wouldn't ask to go back to school in Bluebell, since that would require her to be in more episodes, ha!
