FX Networks CEO John Landgraf says FX plans to announce soon that “The Americans” will be renewed, and said that Louis CK's break between seasons of “Louie” has paid off with “amazing” new episodes.
Landgraf spoke at an upfront presentation to reporters on Wednesday. He said he has high hopes for “The Americans,” one of the most acclaimed new shows on television.
“I expect we'll have a formal Season 3 order announcement soon,” he said of the Cold War spy drama. “We look forward to it being on our schedule for quite some time.”
He said the network also plans a decision soon on whether to renew the comedies “Legit” and “Chozen.”
“We're going to let them finish their current seasons and look at their ratings,” he said.

Good for The Americans. I was kind of worried about it.
ReplyDeletePhew, I do think that FX putting their shows on Amazon Prime rather than Netflix has stopped series like The Americans and Justified being huge hits. Justified especially is a great show to binge but less people have Prime and streaming seems to be how most people catch up rather than DVD boxsets. Glad that the Americans ratings seem to be satisfactory for FX, was a little concerned when they dipped quite low the other week.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't really worried about The Americans, Landgraf said the exact same thing (about having it on the FX schedule for years to come) after episode 2.01 aired (and the +100% DVR bump).
ReplyDeleteBut please don't look at the ratings for Legit : it's on FXX, the ratings are terrible, they don't mean anything. If it was on FX after say, Archer, they would be good.
People should watch Legit. What are you waiting for, seriously, it's brilliant.
If they have to choose between this fantastic comedy and Chozen (another FX animated turd, following Unsupervised, both seriously underperforming after Archer), then it has to be Legit.
Thank you i was scare about "The Americans"
ReplyDeleteOoh, good news about The Americans!
ReplyDeleteLandgraf is one of the more forward thinking execs in the TV business, so I am not surprised about The Americans. The show does seem to have less live viewers than last season, which makes me curious if the dvr ratings increase is higher this season than season 1, roughly the same. or lower. I
ReplyDeleteDid anyone actually think The American wouldn't get renewed?
ReplyDeleteAs someone who grew up in the exact time period represented in The Americans, this makes me EXTREMELY HAPPY! Long live the 80's
ReplyDeleteI watched The Americans last year on Hulu and was hooked. I am not able to watch this year. :(
ReplyDeleteI have seen a few people here commenting that the lower ratings as compared to season 1 are making them worried.
ReplyDeleteyayyyyyyyy
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize they were that much lower to cause people to be concerned.Since SpoilerTV doesn't keep track of cable it hard to keep track/remember.
ReplyDeleteWhen i watch justified and see the promos for the americans they say good things bout it so i had not doubt that season 3 is looming over the horizon and hell i can see season 4 as well lol
ReplyDeleteWe do keep track of cable ratings in the episode database. Here is the ratings for Americans season 2: http://stvplus.com/show/281/The-Americans#episodes Season 1 are there, too.
ReplyDeleteYou can compare the ratings of Season 1 and 2 here: http://stvplus.com/ratings#season
I personally was concerned because although it's such a smart show and IMHO one of the best around, the ratings have continued to decline. It's a great show, but one that isn't afraid to take risks in the writing and in certain themes they explore, so there's various things that could put off viewers and I think that's one huge factor in why people tend to record and watch later rather than watching live with the whole family.
ReplyDeleteSure, that could be.I dvr it because I'm watching something else at the time. There are a lot of people that don't like serialized shows, they want a beginning a middle and catch the bad guy at the end. This show certainly isn't a procedural, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteI'm binge watching the new season of Justified right now. Not as awesome as season 4, but still pretty great! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah S5 didn't quite reach the highs of S4 but its still better than most other shows!
