BARF! Things only get worse and they keep pushing the Damon and Elena shit down our throats. Disgusting. I hope Elena's obsession has to do with the limbo that their failed relationship is in right now, all she's got to do is get rid of it once and for all. And the episode sounds quite boring, to be honest. I don't care about Enzo. Liv is the best new character this season.

ReplyDeleteStar-Crossed - "trapping everyone inside the school" = bottle episode. Plus, this synopsis seems a little too relationship-y.
ReplyDeleteThe Tomorrow People - I hope this will put and end to all the who to trust/shifting alliances stuff. This show doesn't pull it off well.
The Originals - This seems decent. No complaints. I'm glad they're getting back to Father Kieran's hex too.
Supernatural - Can SPN please just have Sheriff Mills win the lotto and retire to Hawaii or something? Every time she pops by I think the show is going to kill her or do something else equally horrible to her. Let the lady be happy and safe away from this show's writers.
Arrow - The inevitable 'Hulk smash' episode. Sorry, Ollie. I agree with Sara on this one.
The Vampire Diaries - So, Bonnie is preparing to die (again), Elena is obsessing about the status of a relationship she no longer has anymore, Damon is potentially hassling Jeremy again, Enzo is still around causing trouble and whining about his long-dead crush, and now Tyler is a plot device. This is the opposite of progress.

That plot-line sounds eerily familiar from the season seven episode 'Let There Be Blood' where Sam and Dean thought they'd rescued a girl who'd been used as blood fodder from the alpha vamp's nest, just to find out she wanted to stay with her Alpha daddy after all. Yes, exactly :( . And since when do Vampires have "Families" and not Nests (Lenore called her clan "Family" but Lenore's nest was the exception.) I feel like we're being 'softened up' to just bend over for the spinoff where all sorts of lol!canon atrocities might take place. I pretty much expect Jody to die in this episode as first off, she's dodged too many bullets and second she is the last recurring character who had a bit more interaction with Sam.

Oh no, I hope Jody doesn't get killed off. She is the only character who is still sympathetic and true true to herself and hasn't been warped by Carver( though I seriously began to wonder when she was out on a date with Crowley and enjoying it. lol )

I'm curious about the shape-shifter lore too. I believed, and it seemed from the earlier seasons that the shapeshifters couldn't hold their form for very long before having to take on a new one, but with them now having to be ruling mafia families then that too will be called in question!

Enzo would want revenge against Damon, which would mean doing something to Elena, and Stefan, who already wants to kill Enzo, would lose it. If Elena will be worried about her relationship with Damon, then the visions and dreams in the upcoming episode are probably part of a spell that will make her sleep with Stefan. From certain Twitter comments, I'm starting to wonder if this season is Tyler's last hurrah. That could be why he has such a huge role. I'm concerned that the episode described above might end with a doppelganger being used to break a curse. The show has been there, done that. Now an interesting twist would be if the curse on the Travelers is somehow connected to the curse on Klaus. That would explain the necessity of involving a hybrid.
ReplyDeleteTyler has not really been in this season much. He was gone for most of this season and all he's really done since he's been back is hang out with Matt. It won't surprise me if they do kill off Tyler (because they haven't had a major character death since Alaric at the end of Season 3 - Bonnie & Jeremy do not count since they didn't stay dead). They obviously won't kill off Stefan/Damon/Elena and I don't think they'd kill off Caroline so that just leaves Matt (the token human who the writers like to keep around so they have a human character) and Tyler.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see them kill off Tyler since the writers obviously never really liked his character and he's always gone for half the season that way Trevino can move onto other things but I'm skeptical that they will.
I think the next episode is supposed to be a big deal for Matt. Every once in a while the token human gets thrown a bone. I read months ago that people working on TVD were anxious to get Tyler back, and that could have been so they could put him in a new storyline to somehow redeem him after the writers on The Originals practically destroyed his character. I refuse to watch The Originals anymore because the writers are doing incredibly idiotic things with other TVD characters too. A show that is supposed to be about Klaus' redemption goes out of its way to make Klaus intolerable and unredeemable. The Originals will go downhill by the end of its second season if that continues. However, since what Tyler did in New Orleans was terrible and never addressed, the best way to handle his character is to kill him off in a way that would satisfy confused and angry fans. I've read some recent tweets that gave me the feeling that Tyler is making his last stand this season. I could be wrong, but it makes sense to write him off the show on a positive note after the disastrous crossover on The Originals. Julie Plec said that the disintegration of the Other Side will lead to people saying goodbye to characters that they've come to love for years. Alaric was the only character killed off after more than a season or two. Rarely seeing these characters pop up from the Other Side is just a pleasant surprise that's quickly forgotten by most people. Saying goodbye forever to a series regular would have an impact.

ReplyDeleteTVD: This Delena crap dragged this show to the death. Delena is the perfect example of a toxic relationship. It's became disgusting to watch! I'm glad that the ratings are downhill this season. There's no good plot, everything looks out of place, and these boring characters like Enzo need to leave already. Tyler and Matt don't do anything, just staying in the bar, and Bonnie looks completely left out. Season 4 was bad, but thise season is even worst! Argh!
Btw: The title of this episode of Arrow, 'Seeing Red', reminds me of Buffy, and just remind of that episode, make me feel chills

ReplyDeleteThis has been going on for quite a while. Remember that annoying whiny vampire in season 3 whose "family" was killed by Gordon and who kept crying to Sam and Dean about how you do anything for "family"?
SPN has always had vampires who talk about "families."
The problem is that Carver doesn't seem to want to tackle the 'big plots'.
ReplyDeleteThe show has always had MOTW episodes near the end of the season. Even the best-paced season (the first and the second) had complete filler episodes around episode 18 or 19 (Provenance, Hollywood Babylon).
I don't think Jody is just a guest character. She's important to fans. They've always had episodes around this time in the season that are still MOTW. I know it breaks up the momentum somewhat but sometimes it still works.

I agree. I hope that just means she gets captured. Kim Rhodes did say this was a tough episode to watch, although I think she said part of it was because they talked about Jody's son.

Those early episodes, Provenance, Hollywood Babylon and many others were wonderful.
They never felt in the least like filler episodes but were little 40 minute gems, well thought out, gripping and engaging.
Carver should be so lucky as to give us a current MOTW episode which will be held in high regard and as memorable as those were!

ReplyDeleteBut they were filler episodes. I don't mind that, I enjoy filler episodes, but you mentioned "big plots." Those episodes had nothing to do with the main arcs of the season.
Season 1 - reconnecting with John, killing YED
Season 2 - killing YED, the Special Children
And at the end of both seasons, they had an episode that had nothing to do with either of those stories.
It's not some plan Carver whipped up because he can't handle big plots. It's what the show has done from the getgo.
If you are saying those episodes were better - well yes, they were. But I didn't think that's what we were talking about.

ReplyDeleteIt's not even a MOTW ep, it's just about the same old monster, nothing new or interesting, but I'm sure they're going to add some crazy stuff to their own lore, like werewolves, and made us ready for ep 920. It's pretty obvious.
This method of show running of completely separating big stuff from fillers is so illogical, they're practically saying the viewers they can skip these eps w/o missing anything, it's a reverse advertising!
I believe even fillers should have some purpose, either introducing a new monster, offering a chance for refreshing or laugh between intense eps, or uncovering another layer of the main roles' characterizations.
I didn't mind too much, but there are people out there who do get annoyed by this sort of thing.

This bugs me more than werewolves or vamps having 'families'; in S6 (6.02 - Two and a half men) Sam and Dean were surprised that 'shifters could even have children with a human woman. The one half shifter baby they 'saved' couldn't hold his shape for long. Every shifter on the show until they met the alpha shifter always had a specific drive to change shape (torture, money, 'love') and did so often.
Now I suppose the spinoff will go with 'pure blood' shifters or 'several generations' from pure blood can hold their assumed shapes permanently, just as the show has done with werewolves being able to change at will.
If the show does go there and kills Jody :(( I'm speculating the Vamps will just kill her rather than turn her. This may give the boys another reason to interact with Tessa in 9.22 - their friends and allies are being killed and their souls are trapped in the Veil like Kevin's is.

I'm going with 9.19 being like S9's 8.18 "Freaks and Geeks" in placement of a random MOTW episode this late in the season, particularly as 9.20 with as the backdoor pilot for the spinoff and therefore have little/no connection with last three mytharc heavy episodes. 7.20 and 8.20 - both 'Charlie episodes' - had at least a partial connection to the 'mytharc' of the season. Now there's at least two, ongoing mytharcs this season and the events in 9.19 might be connected to one of them.

I agree with you that they should mix the two more, and perhaps they will, I don't know.
I just feel like there is this assumption in fandom that everything is LOLCANON!!!! and horrible betrayals and rewrites. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. I remember some fans being outraged because Cas didn't know how to pray in Holy Terror. LOLCANON!!! And when it gets to that point, then I feel like the show just might as well not even try (although they barely do, I admit), because it's just silly nitpicking.
If she was going to be killed I don't think they'd make it so obvious in the writeup.
ReplyDeleteThe Supernatural episode sounds really terrible and boring. With only six more episodes to go, I was hoping they would not only avoid filler but boring filler at that. I'll reserve judgement until I see the episode but as of right now it sounds really lame. Also I hope they don't ruin Sheriff Mill's character by killing her off or turning her into a vampire. They already destroyed almost every character the show has ever had. No need to do that to one of the only characters left.

The Blakes having an illegal second child reminds me somewhat of Terra Nova in which one of the 'lead couples' had an illegal third child and the father was arrested when the authorities tried to take the secret, third child.

ReplyDeleteTO: I guess the explosion in the bayou that we saw in the preview may happen in this episode and not the next one. I knew Elijah & Klaus were going to have some sort of blow-up about the werewolves. I think Kieran will likely die. Why the hell is Hayely talking to Marcel? Did she decide to betray both Klaus and Elijah and align herself with Marcel (the guy who ran the werewolves out of town and had the curse put on them)?
SPN: I didn't realize we'd be seeing Mills again. Although it's yet another episode not about the angels or Abaddon/the First Blade.
100: I'm sure the Grounders see this band of teenagers as invaders of their terrirotry. Is Raven alreayd on the ground in this episode? I guess she got off the Ark.
TVD: What does Damon need the knife for? Who's been possessed now? Maybe Damon killed Maggie. I can't imagine how Tyler fit into the Traveller story-line although since Liv said that Travelers were cursed (someone turned the land against them) I'm not the least bit surprised they want to break the curse. Everyone is always trying to break curses that have been put on them - first Klaus with the hybrid curse, Hayley with the Cresent werewolf curse, and now the Travellers and whatever this curse is.
