Crisis - Episode 1.03 - What Was Done To You - Review: Truth and pain

On last Sunday's Crisis, the White House Chief of Staff got a phone call from the mastermind, another parent was asked to do the unthinkable for his child and an escape attempt from the mansion did not go as planned.

Dunn and Finley want to talk the most powerful parents of all: the President of the United States and the First Lady. Surprisingly, they don't blame Finley for what happened to Kyle, but praise him instead for taking a bullet and saving Anton. POTUS also says that he won't comply with any demands made by the kidnapper and did he would have to let his son die if it comes to that. Although the two have a messed up relationship as descirbed by Kyle, I doubt the President would really let his child die if he gets the call. Plus, FLOTUS might think differently, and it could always be her that gets the phone call.

As it appears, however, Gibson is not after the President (yet), but calls his Chief of Staff Frank Beckwith instead. Beckwith is to set up a meeting with General Mark Osborne at a secure location. Dunn and Finley are on to Beckwith, though, so Gibson creates a diversion that allows Beckwith to get away. With the help of another parent, Clark Froy, he makes it to the location where he meets Osborne. There, Froy is forced to torture the General while Gibson asks the questions through his ear. Gibson wants to know where the evidence of Operation Lenox is and, after several times of electric shocks, Osborne tells him it's at the CIA headquarters. Gibson convinces the General to kill himself, releases Beckwith's and Froy's children and gets ready to call the next parent.

Meanwhile, at the mansion, Kyle attempts to escape. However, Gibson sends some men after him who nearly kill him so he won't try something like that again. Also, Gibson reveals his motive: this is about truth and pain. Well, that last one became pretty clear!

This was another solid episode. While several series regular were absent, I don't think they were needed in this week's storyline. The episode also showed how Gibson deals with unforseen circumstances. He has planned nearly everything, but there are some things he could not see coming. For example, when Dunn and Finley appear in the hotel where the General is tortured, Gibson creates a diversion because he doesn't yet have the information he wants. Also, he now has to improvise to get into the CIA and find the evidence he wants, but I have no doubt he can pull it off. My guess is he will use one of the less powerful parents to get what he wants. Anyway, that's something we will find out this Sunday!
