Marvel.com: To start off, how did the opportunity for Cobie to come back pop up?
Jeffrey Bell: The good part was her other show just ended. CBS was very kind to share her early in the season, in [our] pilot, and so the fact that “How I Met Your Mother” ended allowed Cobie the freedom to do [this]. I think she really likes spending time with our cast and likes playing that character, so honestly we just had to ask and she just said yes.
Marvel.com: Perfect
Jeffrey Bell: She’s been amazing. There are so many people that let us know that they want to come on the show that are in the cinematic universe or just out there, but Maria Hill is such an important character to not only just the Marvel Universe but specifically to the S.H.I.E.L.D. universe. [Especially with] her relationship with Coulson, there’s something that’s just special and fun [in the] opportunity for two friends to get together with what’s happened.
He’s the man that desperately believes that you know that there’s still good in this organization and [S.H.I.E.L.D.’s] worth fighting for. And as we’ve seen, spoiler alert, the end result of where Maria Hill is heading at the end of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” puts her in a different place when these two characters [meet] each other again.
Marvel.com: We’ve seen a little of how Coulson is taking the dismantling of S.H.I.E.L.D., but what about Hill?
Jeffrey Bell: I think, Maria being the high level person she was, takes the long view. I guess she’s very pragmatic, or [at least] playing pragmatic. So when she shows up and we know that she’s [working] for Stark Industries, in a certain way I think she’s looking for a fresh start and a new way for her to help [the world], a new way for her to be involved, a new way for her to do good. But I think it’s a great opportunity for her and Coulson to be in some conflict because he’s the guy who doesn’t want to let go, and she’s the one that’s clearly moved on.

promote her. promote her. promote her
ReplyDeleteno but seriously...promote her. This show DESPERATELY needs a few more mature castmembers, even calling Cobie Smulders 'mature' sounds wrong...the current cast is just so unbelievably young (and partially annoying).
If I could trade my soul for Coulson, Hill and Bucky fighting Hydra I would...Crowley where are you ? I'd even kiss you
So glad she's back! Since she's living in New York with her husband now, hopefully Cobie will recur next season.
ReplyDeleteYES!!!! So happy that she's back on AoS.
ReplyDelete"even calling Cobie Smulders 'mature' sounds wrong"
ReplyDelete'Agents of SHIELD could use a few more serious, authoritative characters.' Is that what you're trying to say?
I LOVE Cobie Smulders, I'm so happy she's back, please join the show next season :)
ReplyDeleteI like the cast as it is.
ReplyDeleteIm not sure that Cobie wants to be tied down to a tv show so soon after finishing a 9-10 year run with her previous one. Quite frankly use of her character should be dictated by in what direction the show goes next season and not by fan reactions. I the photo she appears in what Im guessing are her civilian clothes (or standard Stark wardrobe (and its odd seeing her with no earcomm device)
ReplyDeleteShe is probably not only catching up with Colson here but perhaps seeing if he wants the assistance of Stark Industries for Plane supplies etc
I wasn't speaking to the potential length of commitment of Smulders on SHIELD. I was just asking Mac for a little clarification on the type of character he was referring to.
ReplyDeleteSorry Bruce, i didnt actually mean to reply to you, I must of clicked that one by accident.
ReplyDeleteS'alright. It happens to all of us.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of Cobie Smulders/Maria Hill being a continuous part of the show, but I seriously don't think this show needs more ''mature castmembers''. Clark Gregg is 52, Ming-Na is 50, Brett Dalton is 32, so half the cast is already older than Cobie Smulders, really (ok, Brett is the same age, but technically he was born before, so: older! lol)! And even off the 3 younger ones, Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker are both 26, which is not ''too young''. Only Chloe Bennet (21) could be considered ''unbelievably young'', but overall, this cast's age range is really spread out, I don't see why complain about it
ReplyDeleteCoulson definitely needs a true friend at the moment... poor guy, feeling betrayed by everyone (and he doesn't even know about Ward yet!). I hope Hill is completely on the up-and-up with him.
ReplyDeleteGood. The interwoven episodic Star Trek series had characters that would appear a few times a year. Mr. Jackson suggested that they have voiceovers a la Charlie in Charlie's Angels. #1 She's known Whedon long enough to know what was possible and gladly she signed with Marvel to play Fury's right hand. #2 While the live action versions don't always follow the comics, she is portraying a loyal former deputy director, and Agent of S.t.a.r.k. so, no worries.
ReplyDeleteIn 2013, she told IamRogue "“The commitments to ['How I Met Your Mother'] don’t affect it,”Smulders told the site. “and I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it… I will do Maria Hill until they fire me and hire someone else to do it.”"
