DELENA’S FUTURE | “They’ve got to have a lot of actual, legit, grown-up conversations,” executive producer Julie Plec noted of Damon and Elena’s current relationship status. “We just want to try to play them as human as possible, in spite of their inhuman experience.” Of course, there’s one major problem with that plan. “They keep taking their pants off, and that’s what gets in the way of the grown-up conversations,” Ian Somerhalder noted.
WHERE IS KATHERINE? | “We don’t really [discuss] heaven and hell on the show,” executive producer Caroline Dries explained of Katherine’s epic death. “I thought it was pretty obvious — her being dragged away in a church — where she went.” So does that mean we should never expect to see Kat again in some form? ”Never say never on our show,” Dries said.

I normally don't like to complain but I think the show is become too obsessive with these couples and ships
ReplyDeleteAgreed. TVD's insistence on dragging out the insipid love triangle at the center of the show even though so many viewers seem to be more than tired of it is very frustrating. This show would benefit so much from moving on an focusing on other things.
ReplyDeleteThe show has become such a vapid, repetitive mess and they seem intent on dragging the love triangle out until the very end. They need to stop pandering to fans and actually make the show worth watching because it's been so aimless and dull for the majority of this season.
ReplyDeleteI would not say it's as bad as previous seasons in that aspect, even though I do prefer stelena as it were it would be a jumping the shark moment so to speak if they ever got back together on the show. Maybe that is just me though.
ReplyDeleteWhat about some storylines for Bonnie? Can't take the love triangle anymore.
ReplyDeleteI saw the live-stream. It was a mess. There were a bunch of 13-year old girls who refused to ask actual questions. They kept asking for pictures with the cast even they were told repeatedly they could get them at the end. All they seemed to care about was if Damon/Elena were going to get back together for real, if Stefan/Elena still had any hope, if Stefan/Caroline would get together and if there would be any cross-overs with The Originals. One person actually did ask if Elena was going to take some time for herself and figure herself out (which I appreciated because I think Elena needs to be single for a while) Not one person asked a legitimate question about the actual plot of the show regarding the Travelers or any of the characters' getting any kind of development at all.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I will lose all respect I have left for Stefan if he ever goes back to Elena at this point.
ReplyDeleteThe Issue is Sara (and this is true of many shows not just the VD) is that a show is more or less defined by how good it's villains are. So far the Travellers have been a bit underwhelming compared to say Klaus and co. We get an image of them all emerging around Stefan and Caroline from .. Rail cars.
ReplyDeleteBut hey, I could be wrong and the Travelers might be the goods.
I was never truly settled on Katherine as a great character. Interesting yes, but like all bit players the more screen time you give them, the less their worth is to the show because you play out their storyline until there just isnt that much left to reveal.
Incidentilly, I thought the whole Love Triangle thing was over. Didnt I read something to that effect back in December of last year?
I just recently called the show a 'directionless mess' so it's safe to say we're in agreement there.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of what viewer wants what character to end up with whom, the show can only improve by making a choice and sticking with it. The stubborn desire to keep focus on this triangle after almost five whole seasons has had a substantially degenerative effect on almost all other aspects of the series. The triangle has become an albatross, plain and simple.
A show like this is only defined by how good villains are if the show itself fails to make the series regular characters compelling enough on their own. If TVD would pull their heads out of their asses and write better stuff for their main characters the reliance on adversaries would not be nearly as important. Nobody gave a damn about the founders council or the tomb vampires. They weren't compelling adversaries but nobody cared because the show was writing good stuff for their main characters back then.
ReplyDeleteso tired of the shipper-crap
ReplyDeleteYes we're definitely on the same page. I mean we haven't really explored Matt much at all in the five seasons this show's ran, why not do something with his character? Or actually give Bonnie and Jeremy something to do rather than be a couple or run to Liv? Perhaps they could make Caroline a great character again rather than have her preach like she has done for this entire season?
ReplyDeleteSeason 5 is probably the absolute low point for me, they've not been able to stick with a single storyline for more than a few episodes and practically every character who isn't Elena, Stefan, Damon and Katherine have been shunned to the back for the same repetitive rubbish.
Oh, I've got a laundry list of requests like these:
ReplyDelete- Give Caroline a proper storyline that doesn't involve a love interest.
- Stop giving Bonnie go-nowhere storylines that separate her from most of the cast.
- Find a compelling purpose for Tyler or ditch the character altogether.
- Make Matt more useful and less of a punching bag.
- Have Caroline and Damon address their past directly instead of continuing to let it be a festering issue.
- Stop interrupting Elena's life long enough to allow for some much overdue personal growth. No more dying, no more switch-flipping, no more body swapping. Let the girl be herself for awhile.
- Stop insulating Damon. Give him more interaction and more meaningful scenes with the rest of the cast instead of just Elena and Stefan.
- Find some creative ways to use Bonnie's role as the bridge and better integrate her into episodes. She seems like a guest star most of the time.
- Last but not least, if a big part of this show is supposed to be a redemption story for Damon (as Plec has previously mentioned) stop digging bigger and bigger holes for the character to dig himself out of. It's been almost five entire seasons and, to me, it seems like the guy is back at square one.
Yes like some how getting her powers back and what about Jeremy is he still a supernatural hunter when's the last time he killed a vampire? Kol? And IMO the only conflict you see Caroline in is boy trouble.
ReplyDeleteIMO I don't think the they can handle a good villain if you think about all the villans the have gone up against it's very shocking that thier still alive. In the season 4 final if it wasn't for Alaric, klaus or Rebekah they would not have lived through graduation.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with everything you've said here. Caroline in the first season was one of the characters I definitely wanted cut, and then she got turned into a vampire and become a far more interesting female lead than Elena. This is probably due, in no small part, to the fact that Nina Dobrev isn't particularly talented and couldn't believably act her way out of a paper bag.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know why they've bothered keeping Tyler around either, considering the actor is constantly swanning off randomly and leaving any arc he has to be totally inconsistent. It doesn't seem like they really know what to do with him and I think it's high time they kill off a series regular and bring in new characters.
Bruce: The slowish reveal of the Originals was nice. I enjoyed the episode where we see Elijah for the first time. He has a swagger to him without being overdone. When he is impaled by Damon on the pointy large stick we think.. oh well... so much for all powerful.
ReplyDeleteThen he pulls it out of him. Each of them had a clearly defined personality. They absolutely wasted Mikael the father though.
Im more concerned that we fall into the cycle now of the next witch always being more powerful than the last, and then again and so on.
I completely agree, Bonnie is such a underused character, she had such good potential, why is she just like only there to let dead people pass through her?
ReplyDeleteAlso the relationship stuff is too much now, what about some proper stories, Caroline if you want Klaus, go to The Originals
Stupid travelers, there not as intriguing as the other side, I'm more excited to see what looks like Grams in the Paleyfest Promo with Bonnie, they should explore more of Bonnie, why is it that they don't use mythology over couples, it so much more better executed over on Teen Wolf!
ReplyDelete"They go through some stuff." so cryptic. God I hate you Julie. Lol she's killing me. I want to see my Steroline "stuff" I'm not looking for a kiss. (Not yet) but a confession would be nice. That's all I want, then I can rest easy. And FTR, Paul has been saying that for yearsss. That he would love if Stefan and Caroline got together. So that isn't brand new information.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing this Human doppelganger. I hate the whole doppelganger storyline. But i'mI'm curious to see if this dude is a Boy scout or if he has skeletons in his closet. I mean really, he's an EMT, ok sure w/e. Doesn't mean he's clean. For all we know he could have some Dexter traits in him. Hahaha
My interest was peeked with Stefan's human doppelganger. They better not drop the ball on this one. The killed off amara and silas jst when they story finally started getting interesting, human, relatable.
ReplyDeleteAre they ever going to do anything about Bonnie situation? Seems logical that quite a bit of supes are dying all the time. She should have gone nuts due to the constant pain by now.
Liv and her brother mentioned the bridge in last week's episode which seemed to hold some importance for them. So, I doubt anything will change with Bonnie until she's done servicing the story, a.k.a. being a plot device again.
ReplyDelete“They’ve got to have a lot of actual, legit, grown-up conversations”
ReplyDeleteYeah. They do. I would actually like to see those two have some serious grown-up discussions about who they are and what the hell they're doing and how it affects those around them. That would be interesting. That would be entertaining to watch. That would be some real progress. Unfortunately, I don't have any faith this show will follow through on that.
I'd rather we see a little more of them at college and give the show some substance.
