Firstly, Sean Pertwee, as a baddie, YES PLEASE!! Dream casting :D
Secondly, wtf is going on in those last two photos between Athos and D'Artagnan :o That had better not be a cliffhanger ending tbqh! I'm glad this plotline is coming to ahead at last, but I;d like it to be resolved before the season ends and not be left hanging on over the hiatus...
Agreed, that's the most frustrating thing isn't it, not knowing the order, lol. These last three sets of photos seem to have been the most spoilery of the lot so far?
They do seem to be more spoilery and to tease just a tad more directly. Regarding the order, I guess they can't spoil us too much. We will have to be content with our theories and wild speculations in the meantime.
You know me, I'm all for theories and wild speculation ;) lol. I wonder if it's because of the viewing figures maybe, Selfriges has beaten it in the overnights the last couple of weeks. There's some from episode 7, like the Aramis/necklace ones that make me feel they are releasing stuff that will do well on social media for example.
Yeah. Was it you that was making the point about the time slot not being the best for building the numbers? The show just seems to hover between being a Merlin-type adventure show, with a very clear seasonal formula (though don't get me wrong, I loved Merlin) and being a true serial show that takes itself a little more seriously and into deeper darker territory. I'd prefer the latter, but if it's the former, they kinda need to embrace a direction.
Do you think the chap in pic 5 is Count Mellendorf, who is in eps 9 & 10, or could that be Pertwee? I'm just intrigued because I noticed that they still haven't released who is playing him afaik, although they mention him in the press release for 9 and we know who plays his daughter.
Yeah, I think we discussed it in another topic. Atm it doesn't need much changing to become a Merlin type show and be on earlier in the evening, though I too would prefer it to be beefed up a little..as long as that didn't mean just more flesh and swearing :p
I've loved the political plots we've had so far, and the strength of the female roles which is hugely refreshing to see, but yes more longer running arcs is something I have been desperate to see too. It's been disappointing not to see things that I've thought would run in the first few episodes come up again, as of yet anyway. And when you have characters disappear for a month after trying to seduce someone to the dark side (Milady), I just hope that it will still work out when that gets picked up again, as it looks as though it might.
Absolutely. I know many on this forum seem frustrated that the Adele thing hasn't even been hinted at again (I'm one of them, so, yeah). But there's much more than that. Milady. The Cardinal's scheming? I don't even have a grasp truly of what his intentions really are, actually.
I think it's interesting that in one of the press release blurbs, it says that the Musketeers put aside their animosity towards the cardinal to protect him... but I haven't felt much animosity. They see him as a schemer and didn't want him to get his hands on baby Henry, etc. But animosity? I don't feel it.
Wow, I didn't think they'd release spoiler pics for episode 10 already, I want the rest of the series to come, like yesterday.
It looks like the final will contain all the things I hoped it would - more Athos & Milday, Constance being in real danger ( which the synopsis on the back of the DVD pretty much said ) some Aramis & Queen Anne and real drama such as Athos and D'artagnan pointing guns at each other??? Possibly because D'artagnan is under Milady's influence still?
Don't get me started on Adele, very disappointed in that. Though part of me hopes that the thing from Aramis' past that he has to face in ep 9 might be that, I'm not getting my hopes up as it will probably be do with his faith or nearly taking the orders as a teen. Which will be probably be just as good a story, even if it is less satisfying :)
Agree totally on the Cardinal too, they do up the ante a little on Sunday, but it's too little too late imo, and a complete waste of Capaldi's talents to have hobbled him in the way they have :s
It all looks like pretty intense! It kind of looks like Milady is going to try and get Athos under her influence too, but fail and then maybe get D'Artagnan to go for him?
Grrr. Unfortunate. What's the use of the cardinal being the evil counterpart if the extent of that evil is never revealed to them or if they don't have to deal with it?
I agree that series 2 needs to either go out at 8pm - so that older children can watch the show, giving a boost to viewing figures - or keep it in the 9pm slot but make it a little darker and more daring.
At the moment, it's wedged between being a family show ( there's not much in it that older children couldn't watch, just a few scenes that might not be suitable ) and an adult show that's not adult enough. I believe the producer once said that he was going to study what groups the audience fell into during the course of the series, to perhaps better place series 2.
I would seriously worry about anyone who actually thought that they were napping. But, it takes all kinds. ;) I too have stumbled across those on the internet that make me wonder sometimes.
I wonder if Constance is being used as a bargaining chip in order to get D'artagnan to do Milady's bidding regarding killing Athos, he has to choose where his loyalties lay? The word "loyalty" has come up several times during the course of the series and D'artagnan did promise Milady to kill the man who tried to hang her in episode 1, with her saying she might hold that to him at some point. I think loyalty will apply to Queen Anne and Constance too. Despite Anne's attraction to Aramis, she clearly likes her husband ( though she doesn't love him ) and wants to respect and care for him, as a loyal Queen would. I'm a bit amazed that Constance's husband hasn't been around enough for viewers to form any real opinion of him or see what their marriage is really like. We can gather that it's dull but that's about it. Despite Queen Anne not being 'in love' with her husband (like Constance isn't in love with her husband ) we at least do get to see Anne's concern and respect for Louis, whereas we have virtually nothing from Constance towards her husband.
Or perhaps d'Artagnan doesn't betray the Musketeers at all. Personnaly I don't think he is that stupid lol He wouldn't kill Athos for Milady just because he slept with her once, would he ? I personaly think it's kind of extreme ... In the books, d'Artagnan is the manipulative one with Milady, not the contrary. But the writers changed a lot of details for the TV series (and as far as I'm concerned, it is an improvement on many things !). It's an adaptation, so we might have surprises. I just hope the characters stay faithful to themselves.
I think D'Artagnan is trying to save Constance's life. No way would he be under Milady's influence while she is literally threatening Constance's life like that. No chance of that happening. I think it will probably be an exchange or something like that for Constance. And perhaps, the musketeers come up with a clever plan to fool Milady.
Looks good! I hope D'Artagnan will save Constance. My main draw for this show is the D'Artagnan and Constance romance. If they kill her off, then I don't think I'll be able to watch the show at all.
Oh I don't think D'artagnan will try to kill Athos or betray the Musketeers in another way - not for a minute, he's a good guy - but he might have to give the illusion of killing Athos or something along those lines, in order to keep Milady on his side for a while. Milady probably kidnaps Constance to use her as bait for one reason or another.
It does look like Constance is being exchanged or released (maybe) in that one picture. I'm not convinced that these pictures are in order. Most confusing.
Yeah, the ordering is crucial really. If they are in order, it looks like maybe they have faked Athos' death in order to have Constance released. But, the background to that picture looks very much like the background to the last two where he and D'Artagnan are facing off with pistols, which makes me think those three are all related, and therefore not in order. Not that that means the above theory could not still hold water ofc, remember when Aramis fired his musket with no ball in it early on in the season? ;)
I think he may end up doing some manipulating in this version too. If they actually had him hurt Athos or really betray the musketeers (especially if he does it for Milady), I think it would be hard to bring the character back from that (for the fans, and for Athos, Porthos, and Aramis).
I think with the situation that she left d'Artagnan in in the beginning, he probably sees her treachery, and maybe sees her as this unresolved challenge, but will ultimately win against her for the benefit of the musketeers, and probably Constance (with maybe a little tension between him and Athos along the way). Thus earning their undying loyalty, etc. etc. :)
I don't think he'll betray them either. I do think they'll try to fake the audience out by making us think that he will or that he has, but will ultimately show that he's been loyal to The Musketeers the whole time, and that though he is impetuous, he isn't stupid.
I think that could be what they work up to in the finale. D'Artagnan will be tested, his loyalty or honor may be questioned, the cardinal and Milady will try to manipulate him, but he'll overcome the intrigue and prove his loyalty to the musketeers, ultimately showing that he has earned his place as one of them. Ta da.
If this were a true post-watershed show I might feel there was more risk to Constance or that the writers would be willing to go someplace dark. Hovering where it is, I don't think there is any real threat to her being killed off.
Milady still has yet to reveal the fact that she and d'Artagnan were "intimate friends." haha. This could come in to play here...It looks like Milady has some private moments with Athos where she could relay this information. D'Artagnan can't exactly deny it...
It also could come up in the Constance/d'Artagnan/Milady love triangle plot too. I see lots of manipulating and deceiving about to occur.
Yes, I'm envisioning a chess match of sorts, with some deception and twists, and reveals that cause the characters angst (particularly the characters of d'Artagnan and Athos). :)
And if I am very lucky, the show will find time in the midst of it all to slip the Adele-is-dead-and-the-cardinal-killed-her reveal in there for Aramis's sake. Or really, for my sake at this point, lol.
I envision picture #10 as coming towards the end of the episode as one of those "ta da" shots. With the four of them together in their Musketeer uniforms, all right with the world.
Well, if these nuns in ep 9 do end up knowing something about Adele which causes them to go after the Cardinal and kick start this whole Constance thing, then I will be over the moon. But like I said before, it's prob best not to get hopes up at the moment, lol. I did mention I'm up for wild theories, right? :p
As it's season 1 I think we'll only get an hour, but I think they will fit it all in, I kinda think parts of this could be starting to steer this way from ep 8 onwards by going on the trailer at the end of Sundays episode.
I agree. D'Artagnan will make it look like he shot Athos, and then Constance will be released as a form of exchange. And we'll see that it was a clever plan all along to trick her. No way is anyone turning against each other. Plus, we see the musketeers later on with Milady somewhere else in the photos.
And if it doesn't happen that way, Milady, having been tasked in the first episode with finding out who Aramis's musket belonged to, could reveal Adele's death at some point. Right?
I've got wilder theories. Wishful-thinking theories. Do I sound as desperate as I feel?
I really do hope we get some play back on this, they have given a lot away with this last lot of photos but not a morsel on Capaldi's exit really which is something that I am interested in knowing more about. The Musketeers must have something to do with it surely, even though they seem to have their hands full in these last two episodes they must be interacting with him too surely?
Yep. Think they'll build the tension with the Athos/Milady/D'Artagnan stuff and the Constance/D'Artagnan/Milady stuff and D'Artagnan will have a lot to deal with and figure out. Really want the show to do this intelligently, i.e. don't have ship-drama just for drama's sake, and don't have D'Artagnan come off as easily manipulated or dishonorable. If he's going to find his place with the Musketeers he's got to be smarter than Milady, good to Constance, and loyal to Athos.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
oh my. those are some awesome photos!
ReplyDeleteFirstly, Sean Pertwee, as a baddie, YES PLEASE!! Dream casting :D

Aren't they just! Gonna e an epic finale by the looks of it :D
ReplyDeleteLooks like Constance is indeed in peril. And wow, picture #7. Just, wow.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the last two pictures very much make me think Athos and d'Artagnan are pointing those weapons at each other.
This is gonna be one hell of a ride int it! I'm quite nervous for Athos actually...
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I agree about the last two pics, the background walls looks the same :o
Agreed. And... yeah, totally agree. :) It very much looks like Athos gets shot in picture 7. If that's where they leave it?
ReplyDeleteYes they do. And if d'Artagnan actually hurts Athos? Hmm.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if they at least hinted whether the promo photos were in order, lol.
Either shot, or maybe attempted poisoned by Milady that goes wrong and D'Artagnan goes in to finish him off later? I want the Press Release!! lol
ReplyDeleteEither way, I'm very curious. And very intrigued. They've done well with the promo pics lately.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, that's the most frustrating thing isn't it, not knowing the order, lol. These last three sets of photos seem to have been the most spoilery of the lot so far?

ReplyDeleteYeah, I can see them doing that, and frankly, I hope it works.
ReplyDeleteMe too, although I hope they also look at marketing, and placing, season 2 better over all ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah. ReplyDeleteI would guess Count Mellendorf at this point, but... hmm, good question.
ReplyDeleteYes, lol. Exactly. I want a deeper darker (occasionally more intelligent or overarching plot) not just some cleavage and a few more swearwords.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure the lass in that picture is Charlotte Hope. I just wanna know more about Pertwee's role, I'm a big fan, lol.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people are. Which means it behooves the show, in my opinion, to use him wisely.
ReplyDeleteI've loved the political plots we've had so far, and the strength of the female roles which is hugely refreshing to see, but yes more longer running arcs is something I have been desperate to see too. And it's not as if they haven't helped out the Cardinal before, or worked with him before. "The Good Soldier" episode comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't think they'd release spoiler pics for episode 10 already, I want the rest of the series to come, like yesterday.

Exactly, they have shown that their honour as Musketeers will always ensure that they help him out, every time!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks like pretty intense! It kind of looks like Milady is going to try and get Athos under her influence too, but fail and then maybe get D'Artagnan to go for him?

I think they are just napping, and Aramis is there to wake them up. No doom and gloom at all.
ReplyDeletePic 7! I'm totally drawn in. Very dramatic. I love it when they show the core three together. Being all worried and loyal and what not.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I really hope you're being sarcastic. Napping?
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Just lightening the mood a bit.
ReplyDelete;) Thanks. Given that I don't know you, and that some people I've encountered on the internet make me wonder sometimes... I needed the clarification.
ReplyDeleteXD. Yes, Athos just wanted to rest his eyes a moment. And Aramis always looks like he wants to kill people when he wakes someone up.
ReplyDeleteI would seriously worry about anyone who actually thought that they were napping. But, it takes all kinds. ;) I too have stumbled across those on the internet that make me wonder sometimes.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to see "The Three Musketeers" living up to their name.
ReplyDeleteI love d'Artagnan, but he still kinda needs to earn it.
It's not easy being a musketeer...folks get tired. Aramis probably looks that way because he was not invited to snuggle.
ReplyDeleteI might just join them ;)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Constance is being used as a bargaining chip in order to get D'artagnan to do Milady's bidding regarding killing Athos, he has to choose where his loyalties lay? ReplyDeleteI tend to doubt that they're in order. They rarely seem to be. Which sort of makes our speculating all the more fun and challenging.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he'll betray them either. I do think they'll try to fake the audience out by making us think that he will or that he has, but will ultimately show that he's been loyal to The Musketeers the whole time, and that though he is impetuous, he isn't stupid.

ReplyDeleteI'd really like some of the earlier stuff to tie in to the finale, but I may be over thinking it too much. I think it could work thou.
ReplyDeleteThis is the way I'm leaning too, then season 2 will start a fresh with new baddie/Cardinal and plots against a stronger team of Musketeers.
ReplyDeleteIf this were a true post-watershed show I might feel there was more risk to Constance or that the writers would be willing to go someplace dark. Hovering where it is, I don't think there is any real threat to her being killed off.

ReplyDeleteIt also could come up in the Constance/d'Artagnan/Milady love triangle plot too. I see lots of manipulating and deceiving about to occur.
I like your theory too! Do you think that it will be the regular episode length or will we get lucky and have a finale a little longer than an hour?
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I really want some of the earlier stuff to tie into the finale. I hate it when shows just drop things. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm envisioning a chess match of sorts, with some deception and twists, and reveals that cause the characters angst (particularly the characters of d'Artagnan and Athos). :)

ReplyDeleteYep. Think they'll build the tension with the Athos/Milady/D'Artagnan stuff and the Constance/D'Artagnan/Milady stuff and D'Artagnan will have a lot to deal with and figure out. ReplyDeleteTotally agree with your last sentence, spot on imo.
ReplyDelete
