The Musketeers - Episode 1.09 - Knight Takes Queen - Preview & Teasers
Mar 19, 2014
Reviews SS The MusketeersAndy Hay’s directorial debut has been my favourite episode to date so his return to the series had a lot to live up to for me, but I have to say that Knight Takes Queen actually surpassed The Exiles for a few reasons. Firstly there’s how sumptuous it looks, from the placid waters of the Anne’s forest pool and the clearing where the Musketeers try to scuff up D'Artagnan's uniform so he doesn't look like the new boy any more, to the dark prayer crypts and nunnery cellars, the colours and hues, the framing of the scenery and the some of the camera angles used are just stunning; you need to watch this episode in HD!
Secondly, there are a lot of people in this episode, five guest stars and at least half a dozen more with lines and/or an important role to play. Yet each is given the screen time needed to full understand their role, even if it’s just in the background of a different shot, so that when their time in the story comes up you are already acquainted with them. In fact, you are left with the feeling that he understands all of these characters and their motivations as well as the actors do, and therefore allows them to take some of the emotions further than we have seen in the previous episodes, it’s very satisfying to watch.
As always seems to be the case, our team of Musketeers don’t spend long together before they are split up again this week. Porthos and D'Artagnan travel to Paris to get reinforcements and to try and get to the bottom of who ordered the attack on the Queen, while an ever more incensed Cardinal tries to stay one step ahead of the game. We also see The King and his guests, the Mellendorf's, in the city before taking the rest of the Musketeers off to go hunting in the country, leaving no-one but an injured Treville behind at the barracks just as the cavalry are needed to go and save the Anne.
Meanwhile Aramis and Athos hole up in a convent with Anne as Gallagher and his men attempt a series of attacks on the stronghold with varying degrees of success. There is someone at the convent who know Aramis though, someone who knows him better than he knows himself it seems, or at least better than he has been willing to believe himself to be for many years. It’s a short and sweet story that explains some of his ruthlessness and loner tendencies perhaps, and gives him a strong bond with someone. As for Athos, he has a bigger role than we thought this week, he helms the fight, encourages and chastises when required to as a leader should, and when this unlikely crew of Musketeers, nuns and Queen are down to their very last musket ball, it is he who will be driving the end of this episode forward into the finale.
Knight Takes Queen airs at 9pm on Sunday 23rd March on BBC 1 and BBC 1 HD, below are a few dialogue teasers and a spoiler hangman to see you through until then. Don't forget to come back to vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.
“The Musketeers will protect Anne, they will not allow any harm to come to her. What will I do without her?” King Louis to ?
“He didn't put me here, it was my choice” Sister Helene to Aramis
“Someone was there, I smelt her scent”
“One man on his own, shouldn't be a problem...on the other hand”
“We've been in much worse situations than this and always prevailed, you've nothing to fear, this is a relatively quiet day for us” Aramis to Queen Anne
“One musket and some charges…for shooting rabbits, and the protestants”
“I am proud to say her two sisters have made excellent matches, blessed me with nine grandchildren, seven boys” Count Mellendorf to ?
“Charlotte, you and your father will ride with me” King Louis to Charlotte
“An ordinary death does not concern me, but this is no ordinary death”
“If that’s how I deal with my own men imagine what I will do with you. In case you think there’s anyone coming for you there isn't, my men will see to it that your two friends won’t make it to Paris”
Trailer Teaser
“I know what you did to your wife Athos!” D'Artagnan
Spoiler Hangman
The hangman has been cracked, well done everyone! The new trailer teaser is below.
You may be expecting nuns with guns, but they are in fact more resourceful than that when it comes to fighting off the attacking troop of soldiers. Some rather fine grape and honey brandy become Molotov cocktails, and even a bee hive is thrown at the marauders.
New Trailer Teaser
“The last time I was in your bed you murdered a man”

Thanks for the preview, as always. Looking forward to this episode. Loved the sneak peek.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Any D'Artagnan/Constance scenes in this episode? Or Constance won't be in the episode at all?
I'm drawn in by your hints regarding Aramis's storyline. ;) (As many of us obviously would be, lol).
ReplyDeleteGuessing at it, I'd predict that the "strong bond with someone" that his past gives him will be Queen Anne or one of the nuns. Though for inexplicable reasons, I'm kind of hoping it's Athos, or that at the least, they too do a little bonding between them while Porthos and d'Artagnan are off trying to mount a rescue. It's unlikely they'd fit it into an episode as busy as this one seems likely to be, but something about the two more loner-ish Musketeers doing a little brotherly bonding intrigues me.
Regardless, seeing Athos step up with his unique innate leadership will be nice. As it will to see what he does to drive this episode forward into the finale. :)
Thanks for the teasers and info!
“We've been in much worse situations than this and always prevailed, you've nothing to fear, this is a relatively quiet day for us”
ReplyDelete- Aramis to (Queen Anne, probably)
I don't think she's in this episode at all because the episode's end credits ( listed on the BBC Musketeers website) don't list her but Sandi will confirm this. I'd like to know whether we get one scene ( just one brief scene ) where D'artagnan appears to be thinking about Constance? Realistically, he should still be thinking of her, unless he's completely shut down his emotions.
ReplyDeleteThis episode sounds like it's going to be the most action driven of the lot so far, with just a few 'character moments' for Aramis, Anne and Athos especially.
Does it appear the Cardinal is becoming even more dramatic and nasty than ever before in this episode? I've loved watching Peter Capaldi be more ruthless in the last couple of episodes ( especially with Milady ) it's giving me better 'feels' about his Doctor Who, though of course Doctor Who is a good guy.
I know Sandi won't tell us how far the relationship between Aramis and Anne goes but I'll ask anyway.
Someone who knows Aramis well...Humm...could it be his first love that abandonned him? She could have become a nun...
ReplyDeleteAs for Athos, YEAH but that quote “I know what you did to your wife Athos!”...I'm intrigued! Can't be a musketeer. So my bet is either the Cardinal or maybe Tréville?
Ooo, I could totally get behind the theory of the nun being Aramis's first love who abandoned him. Interesting thought... that would totally complicate whatever may or may not be going on with Queen Anne.
ReplyDeleteMy guess for the teaser quote is that it might be d'Artagnan who shouts that.
And based on your theory, my current guess for this quote, "He didn't put me here, it was my choice” is that it is said by Aramis's first love who abandoned him. :) After Aramis says something about her father putting her there to take her away from him.
Okay, I'm just piling on more wild speculation. :)
Do D'artagnan and Porthas have any relevant scenes whilst away from Aramis and Athos or are they mostly in the background during this time?
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know Athos is being more of a leader again, as he's meant to be the oldest of the four as far as the book is concerned.
Does it appear this episode is part 1 of a two-part final or are most story elements here tied up before the final, except for perhaps a few important bits, especially regarding Athos?
Yeah, I thought you"re right about that quote, that's what made me think of that theorie.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering the same thing. Was there even a mention of constance?
ReplyDeleteYou've just said that "Knight Takes Queen actually surpassed The Exiles for a few reasons", so I'm confident that I will think the same. "The exiles" is my favorite so far, because it gave us more about Aramis' past story, and present motivations. I was a little worried when I read the synopsis for episode 9, that the character from Aramis' past would kinf of came out of the blue, but it doesn't seem to be the case, so I'm thrilled ! This is the episode I was looking forward the most !
ReplyDeleteI wasn't expecting the 4 musketeers to split up one more time, but that always works well for me, so be it !
I can't wait to see evil cardinal one more time, and now that I look back on previous episodes, I kind of love the fact that at the begining the writers choose to make him one of the "grey" characters, rather that the devil personified right away. It would have been a little cliché, imo. His thurst for power is slowly driving him crazy, and I like that ! It seems like he's violent with Milady in the promo, and it is a side of him that we've never seen before. He always had henchmen to do the dirty job, or put poison in the drink of his victim, but now he is becoming physical...
As for Aramis and Queen Anne, when I first saw the promo pictures for the episode, I was divided. I like romance, but it really bores me when it is forced and hokey. So I hope that, if romance there is (because I'm not sure after all), it doesn't feel insipid.
Thank you so much for taking time to write previews ! Prepare yourself for a long week of theories and crazy expectations lol
“The Musketeers will protect Anne, they will not allow any harm to come to her. What will I do without her?” - King Louis (awwwww)
“Someone was there, I smelt her scent” - Gallagher or one of his men.
“I am proud to say her two sisters have made excellent matches, blessed me with nine grandchildren, seven boys” - the Count Mellendorf to the King (like "my daughter IS going to give yu an heir)
“Charlotte, you and your father will ride with me” - The King
“We've been in much worse situations than this and always prevailed, you've nothing to fear, this is a relatively quiet day for us” - Athos or Aramis
No Constance in the episode I'm afraid, I was hoping there would be something too but when you see how many other people are in the episode it's understandable that they have left her out I think after her bigger storyline in the last two episodes.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the reply, Sandi! :)
ReplyDeleteWere D'Artagnan/Constance shown in the tv promo for episode 10? It is the season finale, after all. So I would assume we at least saw a glimpse of them in the promo...
And did D'Artagnan at least mention Constance in episode 9? I'm just curious about his mindset now. Whether he's more hurt or angry. And whether he told the boys what had happened with Constance.
Thanks!!!!
Do the king and Queen have some scenes together , how does louis react to the counts daughter and does he show some concern about the attack on the queen ?
ReplyDeleteThere is quite a lot of action in this one, lots of musket/gun firing esp as it is a siege situation but as we saw in the trailer the convent does get breached...more than once, so there is hand to hand combat too.
ReplyDeleteThe Cardinal is certainly becoming more ruthless, he's colder, more calculating and it's great to see him being so nasty :) The Doctor is technically a good guy, but he can also be quite cold to others if they are in the wrong, or he perceives them to be, so I get where you are coming from on that score totally and agree with you.
Hehe, you're right, I'm not going to say much about Aramis and Anne :p There's a lot about this episode I'm not going to talk about, which may have been obvious from my preview not being as detailed as it usually is. Sorry about that, there are a number of things I am not allowed to talk about as they are embargoed still, and some that I feel personally would be better not talked about but seeing on screen for the first time, so I'm afraid that this week will be rather vague in places.
I will say however that Anne does play a larger role than we have seen before in this episode, but a lot of the convent time is spent on other characters. My favourite scenes of hers are the cooking one we have already seen, and the one where she and the King are reunited, which is due to the way Louis reacts and how it differs from her demeanour, he is such a dork, gotta love him! XD
Yep, D'Artagnan and Porthos have a few crucial scenes together, and with Treville and others, they are all just as important to the overall story arc as is what is going on in the convent.
ReplyDeleteI was glad to see Athos have more to do than I was expecting, loving Tom Burke in the role he's very suited to it! The main story is essentially tied up in this episode but Athos is a very suspicious man and knows when he's being lied to, and how to spot a clue that no-one else would.
I'm afraid not, but we jump very quickly into the action and don't really pause for breath before the end credits roll. It's been quite heavy on their romance for the last two episodes so I can see why they have left it for this week, disappointing though that is for some of fans I know.
ReplyDeleteWow...so it's the return of CSI Athos : covent xD?!
ReplyDeletere-Athos, I'm guessing Milady is going to be central to the series final, having important scenes with the Cardinal, Athos, D'artagnan, Constance ( spoiler pics ) and who knows who else. I'm not expecting any big spoilers for the series final and I wouldn't want big spoilers anyway. I'm not even 100% sure Milady will make it into series 2.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased that we're getting a bit more backstory on Aramis, as well as any moments between him and Anne. I've said before that I'm not sure I'd want his attraction to Anne to really come to anything, as she'd view her loyalty to the King as being very important in the eyes of God and the same applies to Aramis too. But whatever happens, I'm sure I'll be fine with it.
I'm glad D'artagnan and Porthas aren't hanging around like spare parts for most of the episode.
You're welcome :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a great episode for Athos, which came as a bit of a pleasant surprise really. After seeing his leadership skills in action this week in training D'Artagnan it's nice to see his negotiating and strategic ones come into play...but then next week it looks like emotional wreck Athos comes out to play :OO
I'll fill in any correctly guessed quotes nearer the weekend :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a tricky one to answer, as I've said a bit further up in the comments I won't be discussing parts of this episode and will have to remain vague unfortunately, but yes there is someone who knows Aramis, and indeed his family, very well indeed.
ReplyDeleteAs for the trailer, I rewound and watched it twice again straight away, it's bloody brilliant!! Secrets come tumbling out ;)
As an Athos fan, I'm glad to read your reactions and that we'll see him show off his strategic qualities (like the 'council scene' during the siege in La Rochelle in the book) I'm guessing between the lines (and the teaser quote) that this episode sets up the Athos trainwreck deal with Milady/Cardinal/d'Artagnan...
ReplyDeletetrailer for ep10? The pics and the resume of the episode promises good stuff so I guess they'll tease us even more with the trailer...ARGHHHH!
ReplyDeleteThe character from Aramis' past is a little out of the blue, but it works for me even though I would have preferred it to have been told over a longer period of time (anything for more Aramis time huh ;) ). Seriously, there is a lot going on with a lot of people in just one episode, I'm amazed that it all fits in as well as it does in some ways and doesn't feel completely rushed.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about the Cardinal, I've always come to it knowing the character pretty well from the outset, but most of the audience will probably not have known much about him at all. Making him grow the way that he has is actually the better idea from that point of view, great observation :)
This was a difficult preview to write, so much I couldn't say and then there were a few bits I didn't want to touch on either as I personally feel that they will come across better unspoiled. I have a feeling that the finale one is going to be even harder, lol.
I know I probably come across as a total bore as I sing Gage's praises week after week, but he is absolutely fantastic in this and doesn't have nearly enough scenes, lol. He goes through a range of emotions again, some we haven't seen before, it's an interesting and nuanced performance to say the least! Louis and Charlotte are friendly. He and Anne have one scene together at the end of the episode where he is totally adorkable and she is the height of elegance.
ReplyDeleteAt least, are those "secrets" you're not allowed to talk about really worth the wait ? Was it, for you, the best episode ? I feel like you've always had the same opinion as me about every episodes so far.
ReplyDeleteYeah kind of, lol. It's something that's kind of accidentally handed to him on a plate though rather than he has to go looking for it, and it ties up the rest of the investigation work that's happened in Paris with Treville, Porthos and D'Artagnan earlier. It suddenly makes the last bit of the puzzle fit in to place ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm very interested to see what happens with Milady, really growing to like her character now that we are getting to see more sides to her. I think she suffered by not having enough exposure to start with early on in the series. I kind of hope that she is around next year, there is still a lot they could do with her I think, but it does depend on just how crazy the final goes I think. Athos is going lose his rag big time maybe going by how we've seen how quickly she can lower his defences so far (shouting in the courtroom, kissing in the alleyway).
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it was a more balanced episode character wise too on reflection, this close to the finale it really helps as a set up to it imo :)
D'Artagnan features quite heavily in the promo for episode 10, but no Constance I'm afraid. I'm also sorry to say that their fans will possibly not like part of the promo much either, it's a bit controversial in that respect probably to get fans tuning in. I hate being the bearer of bad news, sorry, but I thought better forewarned than not?
ReplyDeleteInteresting... Is he "tempted" by Milady's charms once again...? That would be my guess.
ReplyDeleteso.much.controversy!! dying to discuss it and I can't. that last shot especially, omg!!! arrgghhh indeed :/// need Capaldi's TARDIS tbh so we can discuss this NOW, lol. So gutted that I can no longer discuss theories with you guys :'(
ReplyDeleteHmm, on the whole yes. As ever there are always small things, a perfect episode of any show is a very, very rare thing for me, but cinematically & performance definitely the best, motivation wise one of the best (maybe a niggle or two in a couple of places but they have set up all the characters over the past few episodes so that it's believable), resolution and driving it forwards definitely the best for me. The last scene, in fact the last couple of lines, pack so much punch in them I am literally tearing my hair out for the next episode, how dare they leave us on such a promise/threat of what's to come!!
ReplyDeleteWow ! Ok, thank you =D (until the very last line ! omg...)
ReplyDeleteWe all wait for Sunday to come, but for different reasons : I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut if I were in your place !
lol, it is very hard believe me. I am really going to miss all the theory chatting we have been doing the last few weeks, I'm still totally in the dark about parts of it but feel it would be unfair now to speculate on much for the finale now for fear of saying too much. Damn :(
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I so love when the show gives us just a few moments of brotherly bonding between the Musketeers. What can I say, I love the brotherhood/familial aspects of the show. I would love to see a moment of bonding between Athos and Aramis. And maybe between Porthos and D'Artagnan as they're off trying to get help. Guess we'll see!
ReplyDeleteYou have me so excited! :)
ReplyDeleteTom Burke has been really great, hasn't he? It's so hard to pick favorites, but him and Santiago Cabrera are really stand outs for me.
ReplyDeleteHe DID say, "Another time perhaps" at their last meeting....=/
ReplyDeleteI think we saw him show some pretty rough emotion about the queen's situation in the promo.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for all of this. Thanks for the preview, Sandi! I'll miss your theories. You could just give us lots of fun spoilers instead! =)
ReplyDeleteI'm just as excited to see the promo for 10 as I am the whole of episode 9. Only thing that isn't exciting...the fact that it is episode 10! Stupid hiatus...
Haha, I was wondering if they knew too...it doesn't matter really, but I like the part in 8 when d'Artagnan makes the angry comment about love at the contest and they all look at each other like "What's up with him?"
ReplyDeleteAny more cute scenes like the cooking one? That was so funny. Louis' reaction to the whole situation is something I am very interested in. Want to find out if he is more concerned because she is the queen or because she is his wife???
ReplyDeleteYeah, I bet maybe it's D'Artagnan that shouts that to Athos. Though he already knows some of the history being that he pulled Athos out of his burning house and got at least part of the story, so it would seem like he'd be able to understand why Athos did what he did and not be quite so incensed about it. But obviously they're going to build up this split between them and have d'Artagnan manipulated or taken in by Milady. TV drama. What can ya do?
ReplyDeleteIt has proved to be very hard to pick favourites, they are all so good that it can change from episode to episode, or even scene to scene, lol. Athos shot up my list after this episode, but Aramis and the King still sit at the top of it for the moment.
ReplyDeleteActually, Sandi, can you tease us on this? Any good moments of bonding between Athos and Aramis, or Porthos and d'Artagnan?
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't really bother me (although I will miss her and eagerly anticipate the finale!). I think for the drama sake's and even for the sake of many of our crazy theories, time needs to pass in order for all those hurt feelings to fester. Will make her more sympathetic and will make d'Artagnan more angry. Will also make a reunion (if there is one) to mean more to them both. ....Unless d'Artagnan has been bunking with Milady like we are all assuming now from your promo comments. =)
ReplyDeleteI think that time to fester will make it more believable for d'Artagnan to actually be "taken in" by Milady. If he jumped straight from the Constance break-up to getting more mixed up with Milady, I think it wouldn't work so well with the audience.
ReplyDeleteYeah, good theory! I don't mind him being manipulated somewhat...but I think it needs to be done well if he is going to take her side against Athos. He doesn't have any real attachment to her. Nor does he owe her anything but the contest fee! He and Athos have a deep friendship. I would rather see d'Artagnan working with Milady due to needing her help rather than for solely betraying Athos...
ReplyDeleteHmm, the reunion scene with the King is kinda cute but in a different way, and she opens the episode in a very calm/serene way at the forest pool before we rough cut to the Musketeers teasing D'Artagnan. But the remainder of her scenes are generally more frank/open/vulnerable, she's pretty scared at being chased obviously, and takes comfort in praying with the nuns at the convent for example.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I totally agree with that. I think in another thread where people were saying that his promise to her in the first episode (that he'd kill the man who gave her the neck scar) will come back to bite him and he'll be in a tough spot due to his sense of honor.
ReplyDeleteBut I think they have to make it so he still comes across as intelligent and less impulsive after all he's learned. As you said, he has a deep friendship with Athos (or at least it's heading that way). Milady is still a question mark (and did leave him with a bloody knife on his pillow and a murder he almost took the rap for).
Tom Burke is nailing Athos, he's red the book and it shows. I'm sure he will blow our mind in the finale since there are big scenes around Milady and d'Artagnan.
ReplyDeleteThat's true...that would work with the plot they are hinting at too - d'Artagnan "doing the unthinkable" and possibly betraying Athos instead of only seeming to betray him. I do think it was kind of silly for d'Artagnan to be so beguiled by Milady only to suddenly not be...I understand he loves Constance now, but I expected at least a scene or two to show something carry over from that. But I guess he has matured. If he has been taken in by her, he is going to feel like a proper idiot by the end of the show...
ReplyDeleteThe resume for ep10 says d'Artagnan is seeking Milady's help so there's possible he'll play the seduction card to get her to what he want (and vice-versa if she wants him to kill Athos...)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I thought d'Artagnan was mad at Constance, paying his overdue rent, and leaving! Wow, was I wrong! So funny.
ReplyDeleteYou could explain it...if you really felt compelled to. We wouldn't mind. Nor would we tell anyone. I'll swear to secrecy right now, if you spill!
Ooooooh, I hadn't thought of that! Nice idea.
ReplyDeleteThere's a little humorous moment between Porthos & D'Artagnan on the road to Paris, I think part of it is in the trailer iirc, and then a nice set piece where they put together their own motley crew (that mirrors the convent one) to act as the cavalry. And there's a definite bonding moment between Aramis and Athos, well two actually, one maybe more positive than the other.
ReplyDeleteI think this show has been well cast all round. Of course everyone's going to have their favourite characters / actors but most professional tv critics ( if such a thing exists ) have had little to say that's bad about the casting, regardless of how they feel about the show itself, which hasn't always been positive.
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to try and scour the web and get what filming updates we can in so we can stay theorising over the hiatus :) Or find another show we can all get behind in the mean time, lol.
ReplyDeleteHo wow !!! Stop now, I can't ! Ho wait no, tell us more !
ReplyDeleteI may grab some screen shots of the trailer and post them after the episode airs on Sunday, then we can get going on the theories again ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, that has me interested. And maybe suddenly a little worried, lol. "One more positive than the other." Wow, I need to stop my mind from speculating so hard.
ReplyDeleteSpeculate away and I will read with interest :p hehe
ReplyDeleteYou got us so pumped for the finale, but I already was since the resumé/promo pics. Athos/Milady/d'Artagnan/Constance (and Cardinal plotting) will clash big time I hope *w* I want drama and revelation and I think we'll get it!
ReplyDeletelol, Aramis isn't the only Musketeer to take risks, when they are down to their last shot it's only right that the leader should go after the leader of the enemy...
ReplyDeleteShe will read with interest but she won't respond! ;)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I could see an impulsive d'Artagnan believing Milady over Athos maybe early in the series...or that would have at least made an interesting episode one plot idea. But not now....not unless he is playing his own game or unless he really needs her help.
ReplyDeleteHo, so hero-Athos... omg.
ReplyDeleteLol. Totally true, right? Her job to tease us that way, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI just read this week that filming begins in April...but that could be wrong. That is only two weeks away. Anybody else want to throw in some money in a communal pot to send Sandi to Prague as a spy? Say...30 livre from everyone???
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately if the BBC saw me telling you I wouldn't get hold of any more previews :( lol
ReplyDeleteActually in the books, d'Aratagnan manipulates Milady at least twice, so maybe they've played that card.
ReplyDeleteNice ;)
ReplyDeleteHmm, they aren't exactly the words I would chose for her in this situation, she still considers herself and the others around her fairly carefully in general imo, maybe a little impulsive in some ways but I still think she has thought about things beforehand, she's certainly quite observant of others.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a shame about the reviews, but I still feel that if it was on Saturday early evenings it would be far better received in it's current format. I do wonder what they have decided for the direction of season 2, change of time slot or content?
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I am beginning to think that Queen Anne's part in this episode is one of the few bits you can't talk about. But maybe I'm wrong. You must be laughing behind your screen right now, reading our thoughts ;)
ReplyDeleteYes please, this!! XD We have had one fan get in contact from Prague who will be trying to get some info for us which is absolutely fab news :D
ReplyDeleteD'artagnan 'playing' Milady at her own game would be fun, I can't see him actually falling for Milady's lies, not just because of Constance but because he'll come across as not really having grown up since episode 1.
ReplyDeleteLuke Pasqualino said a few weeks back that "boot camp 2" would start in a few weeks and it's already been a few weeks since he said that - if you get what I mean. Filming starting in April sounds about right to me.
ReplyDeleteYEAH! Athos the leader getting shit done! That's my man!
ReplyDeleteI like how they have given us different pairings and separations during the run of the season, it's helped with the characterisation a great deal imo.
ReplyDeleteAre there good scenes for Anne and Aramis?
ReplyDeleteI actually think that is quite good because although I do love them I can sense that the last episode would feature both constance and d'artagnan alot so its good to have a break and show something more light hearted. Although I am looking forward to the finale! Did the promo look good?
ReplyDeleteIs there something that will make the shippers of Aramis/Anne happy? I'm totally rooting for them but it looks like it's hopeless
ReplyDeleteYeah I think you're right about giving them a break for an episode, it does look like they will feature heavily in the finale too. The promo is very good, promises a lot, thou like I say in a comment a few below this, it is a bit controversial.
ReplyDeleteI think that's got to be a rough ship to ship, because truly, nothing can come of it. They may have dalliances, or have their own affair, which will be problematic enough on its own, but no happy endings in that situation.
ReplyDeleteNo problem. I didn't even realize that you did go fill them in. I just thought you sort of laughed at our guesses and then let us be surprised or prideful for being right during the episode. I'll probably pay a bit more attention to those quotes and other people's guesses now.
ReplyDeleteAs some others noted along with me, I enjoyed the moment with Ninon where Aramis gently called Athos out on his perspective regarding her. It showed the history and connection between the characters and I like little character driven connections and moments like that. Always happy to have more of those.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I'd guess that this might come out in regards to Athos encouraging and chastising in ways a leader should. I'm thinking maybe both encouraging and chastising have to do with Aramis. I'm thinking if Aramis is confronting something from his past, Athos may have to pull him out of that headspace and get him back on track.
ReplyDeleteThis statement is even more ominous if he realizes that leader is the cardinal. We did get hints from the other info that's come out about the finale that the musketeers know the cardinal is behind things and that's why the cardinal wants them snuffed out. Intrigue intrigue.
ReplyDeleteYeah there are, all the Musketeers protect her obviously but it's his horse she rides on to get away and he reassures a few times throughout the episode that all will be fine, even though he has doubts at times himself, lol.
ReplyDeleteYeah, gotta agree with you there, it's a tough one to root for and it's one of the ones I've had problems with myself as you know. France, and in particular Paris court life, was rife with affairs during this time, but even so a Queen would have a much tougher time of it than a King as it would be treason to put the line of succession in jeopardy in this way.
ReplyDeleteI'm open to being as interactive as you guys want to be with teasers really, some shows I do people like to guess and some don't. It usually takes a while to find out which direction fans want to go in with them, and with this being a first season I've been playing it by ear really. The Merlin hangman used to get quite competitive, lol
ReplyDeletedoes louis wish to make charlotte his new queen? and how does anne react to charlotte ?
ReplyDeleteAnd don't we just love both those sides of him? ;)
ReplyDeleteOf course. And in the promo with Athos: "One of us will die"
ReplyDeleteI'd not caught that part before.
Anne only has the one scene at court that I've mentioned above and doesn't get to meet the Mellendorf's this week, I'm not even sure if she's aware that they are at court. Apart from the arranging and setting off on a hunting trip we don't see too much of Louis until after the attack has happened really. Once he knows and is back at court he's worried sick about how he would cope without Anne at his side, much like how we saw him when the Cardinal was poisoned he just can't picture how his life would be her there.
ReplyDeleteHa, indeed, a true treat ;)
ReplyDeleteControversial?! In what way? ... cant find the comment!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.spoilertv.com/2014/03/the-musketeers-episode-109-knight-takes_18.html#comment-1291258646
ReplyDeleteWe are all assuming that controversial means MILADY.
ReplyDeleteAthos will found out that the cardinal is being the attack (so Gallagher) as stated in ep10 resume so since Milady is working for the cardinal...dum..dum...dum...
ReplyDeleteWell, if nothing at all happens between them, then the BBC's
ReplyDeletecommunication is failing lol
Oh no really? Constance doesnt feature at all in the promo for episode ten?? Ithought she would... and in regards to the controversial part is it to do with milady?
ReplyDeleteHey can you give anything away about whats going on in the scene from the trailer with Anne when she Looks up am guessing at aramis in what looks like a candle light room,at night I am guessing its in the convent, is it a sweet scene between them ?
ReplyDeleteEugh I really hope she doesn't get in the way of constance and d'artagnan! It really would go against everything d'artagnan said about how much he loved constance and how he didnt want milady. So if they were to have some sort of 'moment' then I really would be confused and annoyed at his character.
ReplyDeletehow does the cardinal react to the attack on the queen? and what type of people is charlotte and her father ?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know. I don't think we should be too worried. Anything could happen, of course, but the promo says stuff like "forced to do the unthinkable" and "use wits," so I think it will all most likely be a ruse as he needs her help.
ReplyDeleteI hope the 'do the unthinkable+use wits" means stage an Athos fake death (like seen in the photo promo)...Don't hurt the leader!
ReplyDeleteI think youre right! But I also think that giving those two chemistry really does go against everything d'artagnan had said in episode 8. It would be really disappointing but im sure its just protrayed diferently in the promk to throw us off!
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right. I'm going to assume that nothing is as it seems until I watch the show. I don't think that Athos would be okay with d'Artagnan getting all cozy with Milady regardless of intent...so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
ReplyDeleteWell we know from the ep 10 press release that he is behind the attack, so he's obviously not surprised, would like it to be successful and for no-one to realise it's him. Hmmm, not sure how to describe them, rich, a bit vain and boring imo, ambitious, oh and Charlotte likes to hunt and shoot like a man.
ReplyDeleteHad to just have a look to check which bit, they seem to have candles burning all the time to light the muskets on for fighting, lol. That looks to be just after the castle is breached for the first time, which causes a bit of an upset inside the nunnery for a few people.
ReplyDeleteCould you tell us if the controversial aspect is to do with milady?
ReplyDeleteIt's just surprising to me that they wouldn't show Constance in the promo for episode 10 when the episode will be about the musketeers saving her life. I mean, that's the main plot of the episode. I'm kind of surprised by the BBC marketing when it comes to their previews and promos.
ReplyDeleteI'm also going with the theory that D'Artagnan will be tricking Milady. As we saw in the promo pix, I think the musketeers will set her up. It looks like they later captured her.
However, I will hate seeing D'Artagnan possibly kiss Milady to trick her. Ugh. Hopefully, it won't go any further than that. Otherwise, that would be terrible for D'Artagnan and Constance fans!
Hmm, I don't think saving Constance is the main plot of the finale as such, just one part of the bigger story that is being told, as it's laid out in the press release and set up in this episode. It looks like it's going to be quite a complex and involved plot around the fall of a certain few characters.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I don't want themto have something physical yet, it's too soon, but I hope they'll have good scenes, I lot of people love them, they have good chemistry and a lot of potential
ReplyDeleteNewbie here. Have loved reading everyone's comments and Sandi's great previews. Thank you. The series has gotten so much better as it's gone along and seems to be building to a terrific finale. The decision by Milady and her sidekick to hold Constance is in itself an interesting one. If she's convinced by that point, that D'Artagnan is in her power and Constance is just some bored housewife and meek little fool, dazzled by the gorgeous Musketeer, why bother? She must see her as the bait to lure D'Artagnan at the very least. He may be angry at Constance and heartbroken by her apparent rejection but I'm certain his heart still belongs to her and the sight of her hurt and vulnerable will enrage him. He once promised Constance that he would never fail to trust her again. It looks like he will break that promise. Also, if he does sleep with Milady after he learns of her marriage to Athos, that's a pretty serious breach of the brotherhood I would have thought, unless it is a double-cross. I think Constance and D'Artagnan still have a way to go though to rebuild their relationship after this mess and D'Artagnan still has a lot to learn about life and love. It will be interesting to see how they progress in the second series. Can Constance remain involved in the Musketeer adventures with her husband alert to the affair and controlling her every move? Will Milady spend the next series seeking her revenge after the events of the finale? The questions are endless and the finale hasn't even aired yet!
ReplyDeleteDo you think d'artagnan will sleep with milady??! Oh god that would be awful and completely contradicting his love for constance!
ReplyDeleteHi! Welcome from a fellow newbie.=) While I have commented loads on this one page, I'm relatively new to this site. Sandi and her "spoilers" are great, and these fellow fans have been most welcoming. Hang around!
ReplyDeleteI think you have awesome points! I didn't think about Bonacieux effecting Constance's interaction with the entire musketeer adventure plot idea...that is a point to be made. She won't have much to do as long as he is suspicious. However, I do find that situation puzzling. A few have hoped for his death in the finale. While, I do love d'Artagnan and Constance together, I find Bonacieux's removal to be a problem. While he could become an absolute villain in the future, he has yet to be so. Only a menacing and threatening husband. Constance herself has admitted that she was not completely unhappy with him and that he didn't mistreat her. If he is killed "just to be killed," I would hope that Constance would feel something about it..even if it is just guilt over the entire situation. After all, he was her husband for years (?), and she did have an affair that semi put him in the situation that his in (not entirely as the Cardinal did seek him out). But overall, I agree with you. I think d'Artagnan has a lot to learn, but I do think this situation would teach him a lot. Constance loved him over the herself as she sought to save him over preserving their relationship. That is pretty selfless, if you ask me. I think d'Artagnan is not only going to be shocked by this information, but I do think that this will further character development for both.
That all being said, the interactions between d'Artagnan and Milady are some of the ones that I look forward to the most in the finale. She has been set up to be a desirable evil mastermind...I would love to see him turn the tables on her. I also am SO excited about the d'Artagnan/Milady/Athos interaction. It's been brewing all season! =)
Milady has Constance for a reason. I read an article with Maimie McCoy that said that "milady always has insurance." I think Constance is insurance for her in episode 10. She knows how d'Artagnan feels about her. Maybe Bonacieux tells her or the cardinal? I don't know...but she finds out. I'm pretty convinced on that.
I don't think that d'Artagnan would sleep with Milady after learning about her marriage to Athos. But he already has before he has learned that information...
I honestly wouldn't be certain of anything right now! If it does happen and that's a pretty big if, I would hope that it's clearly the result of an attempted double cross and not simply an itch that needs scratched once again. There's certainly a danger under those circumstances of diluting what has been a very powerful effective and affecting love story between Constance and D'Artagnan. He is a hot head but to knowingly sleep with another Musketeers wife, even to believe that Athos would possibly have willingly harmed his own wife, would make D'Artagnan less of the man we think he is and is becoming and that would be a very dangerous move. I have to say though I struggled with the speed with which he simply accepted Constance's rejection. He knows her and she is both Constance by name and by nature. Surely he would have been disbelieving of the complete 360 she did. From the young woman clearly in love and willing to risk censure by openly kissing him in the street, to a cold hearted, ruthless creature in a matter of hours? Her aggressive, dismissive tone is not one he's ever seen from her before and since when was the woman he believed to be the finest in all of France, interested in money? She had only just saved her niece from a loveless union based on financial and social expediency. Surely he might have been prompted to consider if she'd been got at? That didn't hold water for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sunny! I agree with you about Bonacieux. I think they've actually made him too much of a prat to be a successful villain. He's a bit of a caricature and that's a shame. It would have been much more interesting for this adaptation to explore the real issue which is that Constance, a girl from a poor background, with no options, married a man at 15 years old, with little or no choice in the matter and even less understanding of what it was to love and to be loved, let alone to be sexually attracted to someone. Bonacieux is older than her but in his favour doesn't seem to be abusive that we know of. Suddenly after years of dutiful tedium she finds the man she so evidently should be spending her life with. Someone who for the first time in her life genuinely excites her as a woman, in every sense. That doesn't make Bonacieux a fool and it doesn't make Constance a villain. In many ways they are both people trapped by circumstance.
ReplyDeleteLike Sandi has said, Constance's life being in danger will be just one of several important storylines going on, with the downfall of the Cardinal and Milady also being central. Also, the trailer won't want to give away EVERYTHING before the episode airs - trailers are supposed to tease / excite, not really give major stuff away.
ReplyDeleteI would imagine that D'artagnan has the biggest role to play when it comes to saving Constance, she's the woman he loves after all - and Constance did mumble something in episode 6 about knowing love so strong, you'd risk your life for it, which must apply to D'artagnan or Constance in the final - whereas Athos and the others may be more about Milady and the Cardinal ( will Adelle finally get a mention in the case of Aramis? ) though of course the others will help D'artagnan at various points and D'artagnan will have important scenes with Milady.
Whilst I hope D'artagnan and Constance share a reunion kiss after he's saved her life ( or she's saved his, you never know ) I think you're right that neither of them will be in a position to take the relationship forward at the end of the series - Constance because she's a married woman and both of them because their hearts were broken rather quickly, despite it being a misunderstanding. Perhaps the writers want them to grow up a bit more before they can be together ( head before heart ) and the husband needs dealing with anyway.
ReplyDeleteI wasnt pleased with that aspect either. Clearly she was lying so why he just accepted it I have no idea. As for the whole milady thing I think its very unlikely he would stoop that low but if by chance he did it would be very damaging to his character. I certainly would have lost respect! I just dont see how the promo could be controversial. Unless d'artagnan does kiss/sleep with milady which I think would anger quite a few fans and go against everything the musketeers and his character stands for.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right that the events of the finale will most likely be a long and painful lesson, particularly for D'Artagnan and part of his continuing evolution from headstrong young man to skilled soldier. I'd be astonished if the episode doesn't offer at least the promise that all is not lost between Constance and D'Artagnan. I think whatever happens he will be stunned by the truth of Milady's crimes and what she really is. I also think it will be impossible for him not to feel drawn to Constance once again, when he realises she's in danger. I suspect we'll see an ending which indicates that there is still a lot of road to be travelled for these two and that the intense feelings between them are still there.
ReplyDeleteCertainly, if as Sandi's comments would seem to suggest, a moment in the promo will make for difficult/provocative viewing for Constance/D'Artagnan fans and Constance does not actually appear in the promo, some kind of intimate scene with Milady would seem most likely. Alternatively it could be a piece of dialogue. Maybe D'Artagnan suggested he doesn't care less about Constance in an effort to bluff Milady into releasing her. I think however, some intimacy with Milady is on the cards. It's what's motivating it that will be key to how it will be received by some of the fans.
ReplyDeleteWell, the writers are more concerned with what makes a good story - not what gets d'Artagnan and Constance together the fastest. While I think it is a tricky situation to write, I appreciate them staying true to the book and preserving her marriage to Bonacieux as many adaptions have removed that part. I also did not see the plot twist in episode eight coming...at all. So I think they will have a good story for ten regardless of the resolution.
ReplyDeleteI think that might be why they presented Bonacieux the way that they have...if he had always been a visible character that treated Constance badly, d'Artagnan would not have believed her wanting to stay with him. The sudden shift created a husband that Constance was afraid of...very thoughtfully done as several of us have been scratching our heads as to why he wasn't around more.
Once d'Artagnan finds out about Constance's kidnapping (due to Milady) and the truth of Athos' dark past (due to Milady), I doubt he will have any residual feelings or attraction to her at all....It's all what happens before he finds out though! Ha. They had him turn her down at the end of eight...but they wanted Constance to believe that he got in. I think if they were going to pursue that route they would have had him just get in with her in the first place.
It is something milady would do isnt it! And by the look of one of the promo pictures constance is really not impressed with her! I actually wouldnt be surprised if what you have predicted was the actual plot! But I think the reason constance wasnt in the promo is because they want to keep her kidnap as a surprise element.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandi. What a lovely welcome, thank you everyone! Indeed, as you say the trailers are often intentionally misleading to get us all chomping at the bit for the next episode. I've no doubt the finale will be a total roller-coaster. I'm just hoping that there may be at least a hint of a payoff after all this angst.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I love your summing up of Bonacieux..too much of a prat to be a successful villain. Spot on! I also think he's a big ole coward, all this spying round corners, his squealing about loving the king when taken by the Red Guards, and needing to use the Cardinal to threaten his wife to stay with him, the guy is a muppet. I do wonder where he will stand next year if the Cardinal isn't around to be his backbone for him.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to these developments very much. Anne is adorable...and Aramis is.....adorable. =) This is a relationship that I think might benefit from a more adult/dark show...depending on if the writers go that direction for series 2. Constance being a married woman is one thing...the queen is a completely different plot altogether!
ReplyDeleteGotta agree with you there, if they do want to go down those roads then I think making the show more adult is the way to go, it's what I would prefer anyway I think tbh. I watch the show with a teenager and felt more uncomfortable about Constance having the affair with D'Artagnan so easily than any of the fighting really I think, as it's not something I'd like him to pick up on as normal behaviour. The fighting is more obviously not every day behaviour but the affair is more subtle, if you get what I mean?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for this episode! By the way, Sandi, I love that you're doing
ReplyDeletethe same things you did for Merlin with this show. It is one of the few
shows that get me really excited lately and all this, along with the
fact that it's British and on BBC, makes me feel like a small part of
Merlin is back!
I think you're right there, because Bonacieux had never been protrayed as a cruel man and Constance had never hated him, her reasons for risking a secure marriage for 'mere young love' aren't strong in the eyes of many viewers and play on D'artagnan's insecurities. Some viewers even say that Bonacieux's reaction to Constance's affair was to be expected, as few men would take such a thing lightly.
ReplyDeleteI've no idea where Bonacieux is going to go as a character - bitter and wronged husband who some viewers feel sorry for or out-and-out villian.
I agree that sometimes, "The Musketeers" wobbles between a teen show, and something more adult maybe. I, personnaly (carreful, unpopular opinion here ! lol) think that Monsieur Bonacieux is not a villain. No man would just give his benediction to his wife's affair, in his own house, whatever the time period, let's be realistic ! (even if it's a TV series). He hasn't done anything wrong (yet), he accepted to spy on d'Artagnan because he would have gain the best deal of his life with the Cardinal. I might be the devil's advocate here, but the first thing he does is to tell Constance, his wife, that their lives are about to change for something better. They have money troubles etc., let's not forget. In my opinion, wanting him to die is a little extreme. I saw that on the internet after the episode.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what they'll do with the second season, but I'd like the producers to choose a clear direction for the show. And I hope that it will be a slightly more adult one (and I'm not talking about something like "The Tudors" !! but maybe something more specific for an audience.)
Aww, I miss the Merlin days too they were fun weren't they. I still see a few people about and go see the boys at cons and in shows, but it's not the same. I'm glad that Musketeers is as fab as it is too, it's helping get over how disappointing Atlantis was that's for sure, lol.
ReplyDeleteFirst word 'You, fifth word 'nuns'?
ReplyDeleteI quite enjoyed Atlantis and I'll be watching series 2 but I'm not fan-ish about it like I am The Musketeers, which is a better show all round. The presence of Santiago and Luke Pasqualino help of course. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be watching, and doing the previews here again too obviously, for season 2 but I hope that they liven it up a bit, and leave some of the fat/fart type jokes out, I feel it got better towards the end of the season in general. It didn't really get much online chatter though, and when it did it was generally quite negative and therefore it wasn't as enjoyable as this experience has been. I really have enjoyed the chats and theories we have come up with over the weeks, it's been fun and I'm hoping to see and chat with you guys on other shows here, and of course try and get hints over the hiatus on filming which we can post and start theorising on ;)
ReplyDeleteGood start!
ReplyDeleteUgh, typed a reply and it disappeared! Will summarize. Haha.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on this and with LuckyNumberSLVN on Bonacieux not yet being a villain. I also have another "not so popular" thought that the direction taken with Constance and Bonacieux is more confusing and worrisome than with the possible controversy with d'Artagnan/Milady. If Bonacieux does not become a villain, I have a hard time stomaching the thought of Constance and d'Artagnan kissing while his dead body is lying in the street. She is a gentle, selfless character - I think she would feel guilty over him dying due to her affair. Now, if he does become a villain, her moving on does not bother me as much, but I think she would at least feel sorrow for him.
That being said, I think he might become a villain and possibly die...I don't see how else this is going to work. (which may be why I do not write shows! haha) I think once the truth is out on what happened between them, both d'Artagnan and Constance would fight more for each other. I also don't see how a "death threat" plot line could develop in another series. I think it would limit Constance's role to a "love interest waiting to happen" which would remove her from the adventures and be quite a bit boring...and just an all out shame.
I think there is a bit of a problem with Disqus atm, it seems to be playing up. I am copying my replies before posting just to be sure, lol.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very tricky situation as you are all saying, they have changed the dynamics of the relationship very quickly just by reminding the audience that Bonacieux has feelings/motivations too, and that his are just as valid as those of D'Artagnan and Constance, even though they have not been as obvious on screen throughout the season. Just because he hasn't initially dealt with them very well (and let's face it why should he when the other two people haven't exactly done so either...hello, kissing in his house, and in the street!!) doesn't necessarily make him the villain of the piece as you have all said. Great observation guys :D
do we see a different side of the queen in personality wise and does she talk about her marriage to the king ?
ReplyDeleteJust a bit of fun speculation but I noticed that Constance's Maid appears on the cast list for the finale. Most probably she will only appear in passing before or after her mistress is kidnapped but it would be interesting if we discovered that she had in fact, overheard Constance's confession that she loved D'Artagnan and wouldn't give him up, followed by Bonacieux's threats to his life. It would be a neat way to tidy things up if she felt for her mistress and her profound sadness and was to tell the Musketeer the truth. That would certainly make for an interesting set up for series two and would, once again, inject life into that aspect of the storyline.
ReplyDeleteAny correctly guessed dialogue teasers are filed in :)
ReplyDeletebut they are in fact more resourceful when.......?????
ReplyDeleteLooks good! Sandi?
ReplyDeleteAll good apart from one word :)
ReplyDeleteI would also share the view that The Musketeers needs to define itself much better in series two. At the moment it does feel to me like a series that should be broadcast at 7pm on a Saturday night. Perhaps not surprising given the background of Adrian Hodges. While the violence is frequent, it seldom reaches post-watershed levels and up to now any sex scenes have been only slightly more adventurous than what you would see in an average soap. The show looks gorgeous and has some wonderful actors, great camaraderie between the male leads and some terrific chemistry between the love interests, both realised and potential but overall, personally, it feels more than a bit tame.
ReplyDeleteIn a world in which we have The Killing The Bridge, True Detective, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and many more, as an adult, what I expect from a post 9pm drama has become much more challenging and ambitious and has more edge. Even in the "Oh, no! I've just remembered I have to get up for work tomorrow." timeslot. My hope for series two is that they decide on the overall tone of the show. Will it remain a pretty innocuous swash buckling adventure or will it begin to show some depth and some edge? Sherlock is a perfect example of how to take a very familiar concept and give it a fresh perspective for a modern audience. Obviously The Musketeers is remaining true to it's original setting but it has a tonne of potential to evolve into something that feels genuinely new. The look is amazing and fits perfectly and the energy is great but sometime I feel it's all a bit too throw away and insubstantial. In it's favour, it's clearly not meant to be a deep and meaningful philosophical analysis of life in 17th Century France but there is a happy medium that feeds both the kid in us and the grown up. It has definitely improved and built as the series has progressed and I admire it's scale and ambition but would like to see it really make it's mark and not be quite so timid but rather define itself, go for the edges and challenge us with the characters, as well as being visually thrilling.
The BBC synopsis states that D'Artagnan is "forced" to do the "unthinkable". This would certainly suggest that his actions with Milady, whatever they are, are based on reasons other than merely sexual attraction. We know he doesn't love her. I think the most likely scenario is an elaborate double cross, designed to draw out Milady, which may even involve the staging of him "killing" Athos. However, unknown to all of the Musketeers Milady is on a more elaborate mission that goes beyond seeking the ultimate revenge on her husband. She has been ordered by the Cardinal to kill them all. It must become clear to her in the course of events, that Constance is the key to luring D'Artagnan and the others to their deaths. The episode looks like it will be an elaborate series of crosses and double-crosses. Ultimately by trying to play her at her game, D'Artagnan will end the series having made himself a very dangerous enemy.
ReplyDeleteIs the very end 'thrown by the marauders'?
ReplyDeleteOk, so far we have : you may be expecting nuns with guns but they are In fact more resourceful when...

ReplyDeleteNot quite, but close
ReplyDeleteMolotov Coktails ^^
ReplyDeleteHaha, yep that's in there.
ReplyDeleteIt is where there's the capital "M" ?
ReplyDeleteThat's for you to decide, hehe.

ReplyDeleteHmm, is this post showing correctly @bronniebrave ? My email had more correctly guessed words in it than are showing up on the site.
ReplyDeleteSomething has gone wrong, I'll try again.

Disqus threw a wobbly or something, that's what showed up in my email but not in the post here, odd. lol. It's very very close ;)
ReplyDeleteIs the last part: "And even a bee hive is thrown at the marauders"?
ReplyDeletecorrect!
ReplyDelete"You may be expecting nuns with guns, but they are in fact
ReplyDeletemore resourceful than that when at times of fighting off the attacking troop of
soldiers. Some rather fine grape and honey brandy become Molotov Cocktails, and
even a bee hive is thrown at the marauders." ?
*very* close. The second sentence is correct, I will edit the post.
ReplyDeleteMaybe as bronniebrave suggested, "more resourceful than THIS" ?
ReplyDeleteThe correct bits are:
ReplyDelete"You may be expecting nuns with guns, but they are in fact more resourceful than that when......fighting
off the attacking troop of soldiers.
Some rather fine grape and honey brandy become Molotov cocktails, and
even a bee hive is thrown at the marauders."
"When it comes to" ?
ReplyDeleteCorrect! I will edit the post and add the second teaser trailer :D
ReplyDeleteYeah !!! lol
ReplyDelete:D
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean about a inflammatory trailer!
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, it does sound a little worse than it looks, but yes it is a bit :o But we also have to remember that there will be twists and turns so we don't know that what we see in the trailer will be a true representation anyway.
ReplyDeleteI think that's key to remember. We don't know the overall context and the motivation behind what's happening at that point. It's clearly edited to draw the audience in, as you say Sandi. The idea being that we'll all be asking, "Has D'Artagnan really gone over to the dark side and abandoned his fellow Musketeers and is all hope for a reunion with Constance gone forever?!" I think we all know the answer to that....
ReplyDeleteOh god what is d'artagnan doing??!!!!!!
ReplyDeletePart of me wonders if it will be like in the books, that he is drawn to Milady and taken in by her until he accidentally overhears her scheming, perhaps with Pertwee's character, or maybe talking with Constance's maid about why she ended the relationship with him in the first place? (The latter would kind of reflect nicely with how it happened in the books when D'Artagnan overhears Milady and her her maid chat and he realises how nasty she really is). Then there is a turn about and he realises that he hasn't quite learnt the lesson that Athos has been trying to teach him since episode 8, and makes good with the gang, rescues Constance, happy ending?
ReplyDeleteSurely he cant be that stupid!? He's just after announcing his undying love for constance and now he's in bed with milady?! It doesnt add up. What could possibly motivate him to do it?
ReplyDeleteBear in mind that above I have said that this probably sounds a bit worse than it actually looks, though it is still controversial. It's also probably best not to assume too much from the words that are spoken because we have absolutely no context when it comes to a trailer, which is edited out of order.
ReplyDeleteBut aside from that, Constance has just turned him down and said that there will never be anything between them. D'Artagnan is a young, emotional man who has been shown to be in the process of learning life's lessons, and I am drawing on events that happen in the book to speculate on what could happen. They haven't followed the book in much detail when it comes to D'Artagnan/Constance/Milady though so far though, but it's just fun to discuss theories :)
I think you could be on to something there Sandi. Perhaps he is initially taken in by Milady but then discovers the link with Athos and then wants to know the truth. He already knows she's capable of murder, so it's not as if he thinks she's an angel. It could be that they'll give it a twist from the book to make it appear that D'Artagnan is actively trying to discover the truth by playing Milady and convincing her that he's in her power. She must somehow discover the significance of Constance, otherwise that aspect of the story and her physical assault on her, is redundant. She's hurting Constance at that point because she knows it will destroy D'Artagnan to see her hurt.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed important to remember though, that from his perspective Constance has made it crystal clear that she doesn't love him and saw their relationship as a tempting little fling but nothing more. He has no idea what lay behind her words. It would completely devastate him if he did and he knew just what he's lost and how much pain losing him has given Constance. He's a young, single man and he's prone to making headstrong errors in judgement but I don't believe for a second that he has stopped loving Constance.
Yeah I know how the trailers can be misleading and I have no doubt that constance and d'artagnan have more to come but it will be interesting to see how this plays out! Is it a trick or maybe its just a 'rebound' from constance. Im excited to see what athos will have to say on the matter! Judging by the first trailer teaser quote d'artagnan was the one who seemed pretty angry but I would have thought it woild be the other way round seeing as it is athos' wife!! It promises to be a good episode though
ReplyDeleteNice. I had "bee hive" but I kept thinking... that can't be right. lol
ReplyDeleteSeems shaping up to be one hell of a fight.
Adrian Hodges said in an interview that he was told by the BBC to make a series that could go out at either 8pm or 9pm, which is interesting, because one of those times is post-watershed and the other one isn't. It very much feels like an 8pm show, so I think series 2 should go out at 8pm (perhaps getting a bigger audience because older children could watch it ) unless it's made a little more adult.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little doubtful that d'Artagnan would sleep with Milady again, though I imagine she'll definitely be inviting/seducing him to.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I also don't think we can pin any actions d'Artagnan does or doesn't take in this regard to what his character and the Musketeers stand for. He was having an affair with a married woman. One who just convinced him she wants a more respectable existence. He's young and emotionally reactive and has a lot to learn. What the Musketeers stand for isn't really at play here.
I think d'Artagnan will ultimately prove he's not easily manipulated, but will have to grow up a little and curb his emotional reactions before he sees the bigger picture.
I'm sure something absolutely will happen between them, I just still think it's got to be a rough ship to ship. :) That's probably the point in a way, and it will be played up for the drama/danger angle...
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking that at least with d'Artagnan/Constance there is an actual possibility that they could end up together, despite all the complications. Queen Anne and Aramis - that just seems like pure complications.
But I'm not a shipper, so that was just my vague musing/non-shipper thoughts on the subject. :)
Im probably coming across as someone who dislikes d'artagnan I just want to put it out there he's my favourite musketeer! Thats why Im questioning his motives so much because we all know what milady is like and I dont want her to ruin his relationship with the musketeers and constance! Obviously he's going to overcome all of this but its hard to have to watch him go through it!
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear. It seems I'm always joining these conversations after the fact these last few episodes, but I'm still lurking. Just been busy. I'm so looking forward tonight's episode!
ReplyDeleteBeen missing you, though I have seen you lurking on likes on what not. Though, as you always seem to be able to guess very close to my teases it might have been a good thing in some ways that you haven't been here to get too much out of me this week :p lol. It's been a hard one in some ways and I hope no-one is unhappy with me after the episode...
ReplyDeleteOh I would love it if constance was to become some sort of confidant for anne. It would give them a whole new story separate to the men because although they are all great I would like to see more woman dominated scenes too! I think its inevitable that a) d'artagnan will discover the true milady and b) d'artagnan and constance will end up in some way or another, together. We just dont know how or when!
ReplyDeleteHow could we possibly be unhappy with you? It is funny how much this show has taken over these extended time slots in my life (but I love it). I don't envy your position, but, then again, maybe I do. ;) lol
ReplyDeleteMore seriously, I think it'd be hard to walk that balance of teasing just enough, and then letting people speculate and not jump in too much to correct or join. Rough.
I do love it in those windows you can speculate along with us. :)
It would work really well I think and I agree that it should be about more than just "My Musketeer is cuter than yours" lol. Ironically, despite coming from two completely different worlds they actually have a lot in common. Aside from a taste for a Musketeer, both women are pushing against the constraints of their lives and a general lack of fulfilment. An unexplored aspect of Constance's character is her talent as a seamstress. Perhaps this might provide a route in, with Constance working for the Queen and being recognised for her skill and talent. It also has the advantage of linking Constance to Palace intrigue and opening up the scope for more assignations with D'Artagnan and adventures with the team.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I'm looking forward to after tonight's episode until Tuesday when I can join in about the finale, I think there will be a lot of chatter about the trailer. I highly recommend people record it if they can because you'll probably want to rewatch it straight away, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty annoyed at the BBC announcer atm because they have given away one thing I can't talk about a couple of times when announcing the episode the last few days :s I daren't even say it now just in case I get into trouble, but it happens at the start of the episode, and is kinda teased in the dialogue teasers if you can read between the lines.
Totally agree, and again it would be going back to the source material with having the them as friends which can only be a good thing in my eyes. Constance can then also have adventures of her own, doing tasks/adventures on behalf of Anne maybe, as well as with the Musketeers which would be interesting to see.
ReplyDeleteYeah I think it will be hard, but I think maybe that is part of his character, from the audience's POV, that he is the one we will be seeing learn through the mistakes he makes as he is the youngest of the four. It will be a satisfying journey I feel to see him mature from a young man into an older, wiser Musketeer.
ReplyDeleteSo leading up to the finale what we know so far: constance has had to lie about her love for d'artagnan in order to protect him. She will later be kidnapped by milady and the guest star character who I dont know! Athos will find out about d'artagnan and Milady's relationship and how it came about which he wont be too happy about! Possibly leading to a shoot off between himself and d'artagnan judging by the promo pictures which can be misleading as we know. There is also a possibility of some type of physical encounter between d'artagnan and Milady judging by the teaser quote 'last time I was in your bed you murdered a man.' We also know that the cardinal is becoming more and more frustrated with milady and her faith in the art of seduction! We also know that the cardinal wont feature in series two so somehow he leaves by either dying or more likely going to rome maybe? He is also behind the attempted killing of queen anne too. And finally we can be sure that the famous catch phrase 'all for one and one for all' will feature by the end of this series as the boys announced in an interview.
ReplyDeleteIf you know of anything else to add in please do!!
I also recall seeing a photo of a pretty venomous looking sword fight between D'Artagnan and what appears to be Sarazin (Sean Pertwee's character). By the time he encounters him late in the episode, D'Artagnan will want to rip him to shreds. There is also an image of Constance walking ahead of a musket wielding Sarazin, looking injured and exhausted, with armed men on all sides of her. I assume she is walking towards the Musketeers, whether she makes it there intact remains to be seen. There are also a couple of ominous and uncomfortable looking images of both Sarazin and Milady looming over a vulnerable Constance. I've also seen a picture of a coffin emblazoned with the badge of the Musketeers, being lowered into the ground by men in their distinctive blue capes. I think that image is key to the double bluff that may lie at the heart of the finale.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen or sought out any of the announcements, so now you just have me intrigued.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting to see if Constance and Anne have any kind of relationship in series 2, since Constance can't be a bored housewive in the next series, if her husband has put an end to her relationship with D'artagnan and the Musketeers in general.
ReplyDeleteWill Mr B die?
Will he and Constance stay married but with a stronger and more independent Constance, who's working for the Queen?
Sandi, I'm guessing that Tuesday to next Sunday is going to feel like a lifetime for you this week more than ever, holding on to all that info in the face of all our rampant speculation. Guessing and debating really is half the fun and it looks like the BBC are going to light the fuse with the trailer tonight and stand well back! Lol.
