The Mentalist - Episode 6.14 - Grey Water - Review

NOTE: Be advised that English is not my first language

After last episode, The Mentalist keeps its run to find who's behind Ardiles and LaRoche's murders. I quite enjoyed the episode, and I liked the old Patrick Jane tricks on the line, but still I think there was something missing.
The first scene at the Rigsby's house scared me. I liked seeing those two together as a family with Maddie, but I freaked out when Rigsby was attacked and then forced to hide with his daughter in the kitchen room. Then mommy Grace appears and save the day; she shoots the dark figure but she fails killing him; the final hug with the three of them was asbolutely a relief that reminds me the Holy Family. So just like Joseph and Mary, Rigsby and Van Pelt escape from their house and from the man who wants to kill them and their daughter.
The reunion scene at the FBI building was one of my favorite scene of the episode. Lisbon looks like the lovely mom who misses her kids and hugs them when she sees them. Jane seems cold with his ex collegues, but then he turns to be the old Jane: I liked the part when he teases them and tells to trust their instict to find their possible suspects on the list. They all make reasonable choices; Lisbon choses Haibach and Wagner - ironic, I thought she would have put her money on Tommy Volker. Remember Lisbon had issues with Haibach back in season 4 and earlier this season. Interisting choices putting two psycopaths on the list.

Jane can't be around his friends a little more because Fischer needs him on the field; there is a murder case, and the victim was found dead in one of his oil company's sites. I had the strange feeling that Jane was more interested in the case than helping his friends. He spends much time on the field, is he trying to avoid them because that list reminds him about Red John? Speaking of which, Lisbon mentions the serial killer for the first time after episode 6.08. I wanted to see more Wiley, and I got satisfied. Everyone at the FBI trust his computer skills, including Jane, but he can't refuse some advices from the queen hacker, Grace Van Pelt. That scene was adorable: it's like watching two generations gap.

When I saw the old Rigsby\Cho interactions it made me sad because I realized how much I missed those two. Even if Cho may have found in Wiley a good substitite for his old pal, no one can't be compared to Rigsby - did anyone notice he hadn't eat a sandwich in this episode? Rigsby and food will always be the best part of his character.
On the other hand, Jane and Lisbon didn't have much time on screen and I know many fans complained about that. I guess she's trying to be accostumed to her new job at the FBI, and this means no more Jane around her. She needs to find her space and her time without Jane, because she's been spending one decade with him. Also she may be afraid of his sudden interest on her after "The Golden Hammer"? That would explain her refuse to go on a trip to Mexico with him in "Black Helicopters"? Those are just my opinion, we'll see soon what the future holds for Jane and Lisbon.

Dennis Abbott went from the bad cop to the right man. During The Mentalist 2.0, he learned to trust Lisbon and her skills, he knows she's good at her job. When Lisbon and Haibach have that face to face convo, Abbott understands she has her right to suspect him; when it comes to the people she loves, Lisbon would do everything in her power to make justice. Later, Abbott agrees on putting a surveillance on Haibach - soon, Cho and Rigsby will find out he made the right decision, because Haibach eluded his special surveillance and had his way free... maybe to Van Pelt? Is he the man who killed Ardiles and LaRoche? Just when Rigsby thinks everything's okay because his wife is safe at home, he couldn't be more wrong. VP is sleeping in her bed, then a dark figure comes from the behind, ready to kidnap her...

Who do you think is killing former CBI agents? Will Grace be safe and the Rigsby family happy ever after? Share your comments below.

  1. Jane seems cold? Really? I thought Rigsby and van pelt were cold? And what's that about him not caring about his friends? Who lead them into their first steps? Or does he have to solve the case like always for them and like he will next episode? If it was up to him he won't go with Kim, you saw how he's uncomfortable with her. And for the record I didn't see Cho or Lisbon caring more about what happened to their friends. I hope in future you can write reviews from more point of view, I enjoy your reviews that's why I commented. Thanks ;)

  2. They're both distant because she needs her space without him; he just wants to be with her as proven in the previous episode (he wanted to go to Mexico with her).
I think my words have been misleading about Jane and his acting. I only wrote he seems cold but only because that list of suspects reminds him of Red John - it's like he didn't want to be involved again in that kind of 'game', that's why he spent much time on the murder case.

  3. Yeah I like your thoughts about the list reminding Jane of Red John, the thing is I think Rigsby & Van Pelt were cold toward him, he was just Jane, and he didn't work on the case because of Kim always taking him with her, and don't forget this is a story arc, so we still have one more episode, and obviously he will be the one working on it. When we usually have story arc, like Volker, Jane works in the last one, because, surly he will solve the case from the first episode 'unless it's RJ related' so he should give a space to the team to work too.
Also, I hated that all the team didn't react that much about what happened to R & V. Cho is cold but that's just his stoic face, and Lisbon became a close friend with them in those two years, while Jane only contacted Lisbon.

  4. I agree, with Annie, I hate how some are having those bad ideas about Jane, as if they didn't see the show since the beginning or don't understand Jane.
As for Jane and Lisbon, Lisbon had been giving him this cold shoulder act since their talk on the plane, maybe she want to make her name without depending on Jane like on CBI or maybe she's still angry of him because he brought her to FBI.
I think their talk on the plane, affected Jane and he's trying to give her space.

  5. Thanks for commenting! Anyway, I wrote Jane seems cold, but then I explained why he seemed to be like that and I added he showed his old tricks in leading his friends to find the possible suspects...
