The 100 - 1.02 "Earth Skills" - Preview

The second episode of The 100 airs this Wednesday, 9|8c, on The CW

The second episode of The 100 is a goodie. Just like the series premiere, a lot happens in a short timespan, with a growing level of intensity. We learn a bit more about a few of the characters, and we see who is willing to thrive, not just survive.

"Earth Skills" picks up right from where last week's series premiere ended. Clarke, Finn, Monty and Octavia high-tail it back to the base camp, minus Jasper who was hit with a spear after crossing the river on a swing made from a vine. Clarke assembles a search party comprised of some surprising faces in order to rescue Jasper. The search is fraught with danger, with a couple of the characters' lives nearly ended

On board the Ark, the pressure on the Council increases with each and every passing day, as you will see in a scene in which the Council meet to discuss further lifesaving measures. Councilman Kane is not impressed by Abby's actions to save Chancellor Jaha, which halted his ascent to power. The pressure is also on Abby to find an explanation as to why so many of the 100 appear to be dying, while others remain in good health.

The chemistry begins to blossom between two potential couples, Bellamy works hard to maintain his status as de facto leader, and Abby sets a challenging task to someone who wasn't seen in the series premiere. And finally, a grounder is sighted for the first time.

If the series premiere got you hooked, then "Earth Skills" will ensure that hook adds a line and sinker. The episode does an excellent job following on from the series premiere, but having personally seen the next four, I can tell you that The 100 only gets better, and that the best is definitely yet to come.

  1. Great preview Jimmy! I think people will like this episode, though personally I didn't like it as much as the pilot. From episode 3 onwards I think things get real and awesome.
Let's hope the ratings stay steady! That 0.9 last week was pretty impressive

  2. I can't wait. I loved the pilot and it's good to know it only gets better.

  3. I do like the fact that It should now be 'The 98'. (2 guys died after opening their belt buckles during rentry) and Jaspar got turned into a Kebab. (but to be honest i half expected the 'I wanna be free to stuff around!' female to be saved by a male character only to have that male character get eaten by the giant eel thing.

    Some things i found strange

    1) Most crimes on the ark are punishable by death? They do realise that when you kill your lead scientists, best engineers and so on you are essentially losing their knowledge and skills to REPAIR YOUR ORBITING DEATHTRAP?

    2) The planners didnt plan for population growth? They obviously knew they would be in orbit for 200+ years. i noticed they had a 1 child policy though which did make sense.

    3) The 2 headed deer was kinda cool

    4) If the Nuclear Warheads killed off the civlisation on earth, then after 100 years the earth would still be very radioactive. The kids are essentially all dead, unless nature has found a way to deal with and turn the radiation into something else.

  4. The Pilot looked very interesting can't wait too see how things advance now the political conflict on the Ark is going to pick up. As for Earth are the 99 really alone or could they be facing survivors ?

Are people going to point out they aren't 100 anymore in every single article? It's just a name.

We don't know exactly what happened. Maybe the bombs went off in other places and they sent them to an area that wasn't so affected. There must be a reason why they picked that exact location (apart from the supplies).

  6. I hope they never fully explain what happened as well, or we get bits and pieces. The best shows are the ones in which the questions always outnumber the answers by a long shot.

I found the story of the Arc surprisingly interesting. The fact that have a problem which needs to be resolved in 4 months at most puts a great time limit for the show, and means that the desperate characters on the show will be forced into more desperate actions to resolve them.

  7. You didn't like it as much? I hope there's Jasper and Octavia scenes. I think this show is really good I didn't know if I'd like it until I watched the Pilot last week.

  8. I agree it's just a name from the start of the series doesn't mean it has to be changed.

  9. It depends because if you have more questions than answers like some of these mystery shows are on it can make you not really be into the show anymore.

  10. Jasper and Octavia scenes? Yes, but I will say no more...

  14. It would be a massive spoiler if I said whether he lives or dies. But I will say that he's in a pretty bad way.

  15. I think he will die, that spear o whatever it was almost got through him D: but i want him to live!

  16. The whole Nuclear War thing seems a very 80's plot device :) Nowadays they would more use a giant emp pulse etc :).

Still it would be interesting if the history diverged in the 80's.

  17. I'm glad to hear that I've liked them from the start hopefully they're one of the two couples you mentioned.

  18. There are people there if you call them that I guess a preview with recent footage was shown during Star-Crossed and I guess the radiation from the planet made them like that? Or they aren't human at all.

  19. Great preview Jimmy. And you're right: it will only get better.

  22. I like the Drug dealer guy. He would be VERY useful on the planet .

  23. I've heard that by the end of the season it should be called the 50.
