Scene Of The Week - March 30, 2014 - POLL

30 Mar 2014

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.

BATES MOTEL, "Check-Out", March 24, 2014, Actors: Freddie Highmore, Kenny Johnson and more
The Scenes: Norman fights with Caleb & Emma wakes up next to the pot-guy

Darth Locke: Norman confronts Caleb at Caleb's hotel room channeling Norma presumably from some kind of transference. Also picked by DarkUFO
Sharon Seymour: Emma wakes up next to the pot-guy and can't remember what happened last night. Funny scene!

HANNIBAL, "Mukōzuke", March 28, 2014, Actors: Mads Mikkelsen, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Tucker
The Scene: Jack saves Hannibal's life
Darth Locke:
Jack Crawford saves Hannibal's life after nearly being murdered via hanging due to Will enlisting a more than willing orderly.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, "The End of the Aisle", March 24, 2014, Actors: Cobie Smulders and more
The Scenes: Barney and Robin get married & Ted tells Robin he doesn't love her anymore
Justyna Kubica:
It seems like only tragic things happen lately on TV. Which is why this scene feels even more special to me. I've been a fan of this couple for years now so it was such a fantastic and a very happy moment to watch. As much as I enjoyed the scene earlier, when Barney promises Robin to be honest with her and they embrace, finally ready to get married, the wedding was done so beautifully that I had to pick it as one of my favorite scenes of the week. First of all, Ring Bear! I'm glad it went so lovely, personally I kinda wanted to see the flower gorilla, but well... It was good to see so many familiar faces on the wedding and everyone being happy for the couple, including Ted, who finally let go of Robin and was rooting for his friends. I'm glad. I wish them all a happy ending in the series finale and can't wait to see Ted meeting the Mother. Something tells me it's gonna be an amazing scene. I already miss the show.
Klutzy girl: After years of waiting, Barney and Robin finally get married. It was a sweet scene, and I especially love the way he dipped her after they kissed. So excited and happy for them! Also picked by Jamie Coudeville
Pablozky21: Ted tells Robin he doesn't love her anymore: The moment finally came down; after letting Robin go in "Sunrise" Ted has given the final step as he finally gets the chance to tell her that he doesn't love her anymore once he turns down Robin when she freaks out. Robin considers Ted to be the safest choice, and that's why she tells him they should be together, but Ted knows she actually loves Barney and he realized that he doesn't love her as he thought he did, he just needed to hear Robin to tell him that she should be with him and then he was good to go.

NASHVILLE, "Your Wild Life's Gonna Get You Down", March 26, 2014, Actors: Hayden Panettiere, Jonathan Jackson, The Scene: Juliette tells Avery how she feels about him
Klutzy girl:
Juliette opens up and tells Avery how she feels about him. I love the way he tells her not to be jealous and that he would never destroy her. It was such an amazing, adorable conversation that made me love the pairing even more.

NCIS: LOS ANGELES, "Zero Days", March 25, 2014, Actors: Eric Christian Olsen, LL Cool J
The Scene: Sam and Deeks discuss reasons why Callen is late to work (picked by Bradley Adams & Tonya Papanikolas)

PERSON OF INTEREST, "Allegiance", March 25, 2014, Actors: Jim Caviezel and more
The Scenes: Root tracks down Greer using Bear & Reese falls out of a window and gets up

Virginia Fontana: Reese tackles a baddie, smashes through a window, slams the other guy into a car, gets up, and shrugs at the team above. This was an exhilaratingly action-packed fight scene with a hilariously apt ending.
Tonya Papanikolas: Reese goes after a bad guy by grabbing and hurling him out a window, both landing several floors below on a car. As everyone else rushes to see if he's okay, Reese slowly gets up and shrugs his shoulders like nothing happened.
Bradley Adams: Root tracks down Greer using Bear.

PSYCH, "The Break-Up", March 26, 2014, Actors: James Roday, Maggie Lawson, Dulé Hill
The Scene: The final scene
Justyna Kubica:
And Psych is officially over! It's so hard to say goodbye to such a fantastic show. I loved watching and re-watching the series, it somehow always made me feel better whenever I needed it. But if it's the end, I'm glad it went like this. I think it was pretty much a perfect ending for everyone. I was wondering which scene to pick, because I also loved Shawn's goodbye videos to Gus and Lassie, and Gus going after Shawn to San Francisco, but I think the proposal might be the best one. Not just because of the happy couple, but also because it shows how Shawn changed over the years, how much Juliet AND Gus mean to him, and it's the final scene of the series. I have to say, I'm so happy Gus wouldn't let go of his best friend! I was preparing myself for their "break up" but it didn't happen. Good! Cause I can't imagine those two apart. And now they can start over with their business in SF, maybe even joining forces with Monk (I loved this reference!) and eventually grow up. But never completely. "Will you marry us? Me. Mostly me." Farewell Psych! Goodbye to Shawn, Gus, Juliet, Lassie, Henry, Chief Vick and everyone else. You'll be missed dearly. Kudos to the cast and crew for all their wonderful work in this one of a kind show! Psych OUT.

REIGN, "Monsters", March 27, 2014, Actors: Torrance Coombs, Toby Regbo
The Scene: Bash rescues Francis from under the ice
Sandi wich:
The two brothers needed something huge to happen to bring them back together and get them trusting each other, I'm really glad that are again reunited. I do however fear that Francis may be effected by his prolonged dunking under the ice, it can't have been good for his health and I worry that it will kick start his ear infection in some way.

REVENGE, "Disgrace", March 23, 2014, Actors: Emily VanCamp, Nick Wechsler
The Scenes: Emily agrees to let Jack help her & Emily runs away from the opera house
Virginia Fontana:
Emily agrees to let Jack help her in her latest plan against Pascal. I am excited to see these two team up and have more scenes together. It should be fascinating to see Emily deal with having Jack in the action since she usually strives to keep him out of it.
Pablozky21: This scene I choose because of how well crafted it is; it is as simple as Emily being publicly exposed for her fake pregnancy and she has to run away. It's a moment of soapy perfection, especially when she runs down the stairs and the laugh from the opera can be heard in the background. It is just so beautifully simple and well constructed that it easily became one of my favorite scenes of the week. And it became even better once Emily reveals she set the whole thing up, not that there was any doubt, but confirmation makes it all the more delightful.

SCANDAL, "Mama Said Knock You Out", March 27, 2014, Actors: Bellamy Young, Tony Goldwyn
The Scene: Fitz tells Mellie he lost his wife
Pablozky21:
It's been a while since I truly enjoyed a Scandal episode, mostly because I felt that every episode has been so fast paced that they are too overwhelming to actually enjoy them, but this episode managed to mantain the fast pacing a little bit more balanced and many scenes can be fully enjoyed, such as this one, in which Fitz calls out Mellie for destroying their marriage; they actually loved each other once, but once Mellie was raped by Fitz' father she just couldn't do it anymore, and the fact that Fitz puts the blame on Mellie without knowing this fact makes the scene both tragic and poignant, probably one of the highlights of the season for me.

TEEN WOLF, "The Divine Move", March 24, 2014, Actors: Dylan O'Brien, Keahu Kahuanui and more
The Scenes: The final confrontation with Nogitsune & Danny knows
Justyna Kubica:
The best season of one of my favorite shows finished this week. Now we have to wait another 3 months to see what's gonna happen next. I'm actually happy about that. I was afraid it's gonna be a much longer break. And so many great scenes in this finale! I honestly did not know which one I liked best. I decided to go with the last confrontation with Nogitsune or how I like to call it: Stiles vs "Stiles" showdown. I love the fact that working as a team is what made our heroes win with the seemingly undefeatable enemy. Everyone had their part to play in the plan. Derek, The Twins and Chris (thanks to Allison's idea) killed the Oni, Kira and Scott changed and destroyed Nogitsune's body, Isaac trapped what's left of him and finally Stiles (with Lydia's support) figured out how to beat him and his illusions in the first place. The Divine Move! I felt so proud to see them succeed, especially after all the losses they suffered (one still before them at that point). Not to mention the cruelty of Nogistune's final plan, to force Stiles to take his own life with the help of his best friend. And just to win a game with him! Good to see him gone! Still, Nogitsune was probably one of my favorite villains on the show, truly scary, effective, dark and clever. And so wonderfully portrayed by Dylan O'Brien who had spectacular season. I loved the final battle and the entire episode built around it and I can't wait to see what's gonna happen next. Thank you to the entire talented cast and crew for their incredible work this season. And to everyone not returning next season: you'll be dearly missed!
Jamie Coudeville: I absolutely loved this, how long has he known?? I hope this means he'll get more screentime in season 4.

THE AMERICANS, "The Deal", March 26, 2014, Actors: Matthew Rhys and more
The Scene: Philip takes the hostage to the toilet (picked by DarkUFO)

THE BLACKLIST, "Ivan (No. 88)", March 24, 2014, Actors: James Spader, Megan Boone and more
The Scenes: Reddington meets with Mr Kaplan at the grave & Red and Liz share a moment at the end
Geo N:
Red (James Spader) and Liz (Megan Boone) share a loving moment at the end of the episode, "Ivan". Liz seeks comfort with Red, after her discovery, and tells a story of the destructive fire from her youth. Red consoles her with music, from the music-box he created, playing in the background. The song being played is the same one that Liz's dad used to hum when she was a little girl to make her feel safe. A great moment and one that will be remembered throughout the series as a very important moment in their relationship. Also picked by Darth Locke
Bradley Adams: Reddington meets with Mr Kaplan at the grave.

THE FOLLOWING, "Teacher's Pet", March 24, 2014
The Scene: The two killers in the restaurant (picked by Sharon Seymour)

THE FOSTERS, "Adoption Day", March 24, 2014, Actors: Teri Polo, Sherri Saum
The Scene: Lena tells Stef she's pregnant
Klutzy girl:
Figured she would be since the actress is pregnant in real life, but Stef's reaction was the best. I'm so excited to see what happens with this storyline next season!

THE MENTALIST, "White as the Driven Snow", March 23, 2014, Actors: Owain Yeoman, Amanda Righetti and more, The Scene: Van Pelt and Rigsby's last scene
Tonya Papanikolas:
Van Pelt & Rigsby's last send-off scene in the hospital was a nice goodbye. I loved that all the characters said farewell to the couple as they prepared to go live as "civilians." We even saw Cho smile!

THE MUSKETEERS, "Knight Takes Queen", March 23, 2014, Actors: Tom Burke, Santiago Cabrera
The Scene: Athos chastises Aramis for sleeping with the Queen
Sandi wich:
Another episode where it was hard to choose a best scene as every character had so many little moments that shone, but this little scene is probably the one I've seen most fans mention over the past week. The dialogue was hilarious, yet still filled with the dire consequences they faced, and Tom Burke and Santiago Cabrera's energy and pace conveyed the frustration I think both characters felt over the enormity of what had happened. I love how little scenes like this show how close the Musketeers actual are, a lot is said and understood between each other without words, but with looks and nods instead.

THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, "Endgame", March 24, 2014, Actors: Robbie Amell, Mark Pellegrino
The Scene: Stephen lets Jed escape from the Founder
Virginia Fontana:
I'm not sure Stephen knows what to think about his uncle or the Founder right now, which is excellently suspenseful. I'm loving how complex the Jedikiah character is, constantly shifting from seeming evil to showing a good side, and all of it interlaced with sincere emotions we can't always quite put our finger on.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, "Rescue Me", March 27, 2014, Actors: Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev
The Scene: Damon lets Elena go
Jamie Coudeville:
This can't have been easy for either one of them. They do need some time apart but I know they'll reunite by the end of the season.

THE WALKING DEAD, "Us", March 23, 2014, Actors: Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun
The Scene: Glenn and Maggie reunite (picked by DarkUFO)

  2. How is Suburgatory not an option? Malik lip syncing then proposing to Lisa at the end of the episode gets my vote.

  3. Honorable mentions:

Teen Wolf - Danny's known about Beacon Hills this whole time. Honestly wasn't expecting that and my mouth literally dropped open. Plus, the scene where they defeat the nogistune because Dylan's acting was amazing.

OUAT - David faces his worst fears.

The Americans - Philip and Elizabeth cuddling at the end; Martha telling "Clark's sister" about their sex life

  4. The scene listed for Helix is from last weeks episode not this weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I loved that scene so much.

    ReplyDelete
  6. The wedding, my babies are married it was LEGENDARY. Also love how close Deeks and Sam has gotten since the whole hostage situation at the start of this season so I picked that one too.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I had to rewind it and watch it like 3 times. I liked it that much. Almost as good as when George was singing Bump and Grind to Dallas last season.

  8. So hard to pick just 3 scenes this week. Honorable mentions:

Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Jake says goodbye to Amy
    Castle - The guest list
Glee - I don't watch the show for years now, but actually checked out this episode and I really enjoyed the video and the song at the end
How I Met Your Mother - Barney's promise to Robin. Wish we heard the vows at the wedding.
OUAT in Wonderland - Cyrus' death - They better bring him back with Anastasia, cause this was so incredibly sad. And I need a happy ending.
Person Of Interest - Reese falls out of the window and acts like it's nothing
Psych - Goodbye videos & Gus comes to SF after Shawn
Regin - Bash saves Francis - I really want the two to be brothers again.
Teen Wolf - Danny knows - Already loved Danny, now I adore the guy even more. Thank you Danny for being literally the only person on any of my shows to just figure things out on his own.
The Musketeers - Aramis and Anne scenes - really great dynamics & Aramis and Athos talk

And that's not even all of them. Busy week!

Also, I feel like at least one of the scenes form The Good Wife should be in the poll. I don't watch the show (and probably others who picked the scenes this week don't watch it too)

  9. Oh o___________o Are we sure he's dead? I thought he was just hurt really bad but not that much!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Other::
    - Bitten: whole fighting sequence
    - Vikings: reunited family on the battlefield
    - Hannibal: Jack sees Beverly's corps

    - Being Human: Nora sees Aidan's you know what

    ReplyDelete
  11. Honourable mention goes to Reese going out the window from Person of Interest.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I figured he must be dead since Jafar told Amara he could bring him back once they finish the spell. Anyway, I'm hoping he'll be alive and okay in the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You can always share them here in the comments :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Others:

Castle - the discussion on guest list, and the scenes between Kate and Gates.
The Good Wife - from the shooting till the end of the episode, I held my breathe the whole time.

From the list, I loved the whole episode of The Americans and The Blacklist and I'm sure I would have loved some of the others if I wasn't so behind on my shows at the moment (including The Mentalist, Revenge, Nashville, PoI)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Cheers Justyna.
Agree with OUAT in W. There seems a lot to be tied up in the last episode, not going to be an easy one if they are going to go for a happy ever after...
Also agree with the Musketeers Anne & Aramis scenes, great dynamics even though I can't really get behind them/condone what they did. I also loved Porthos and D'Artagnan's journey back to Paris and the cooking scene where Anne burnt the fish and the Musketeers were all too polite to tell her.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Really? I don't watch the show but in this case I have to ask Sharon which scene she meant ;)

    ReplyDelete
  17. The Good Wife - the courthouse shooting and the aftermath. Archie Panjabi did a stunning job!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Cheers!
Yeah, so many good scenes on The Musketeers to pick from. And the couples on the show are very controversial but I definitely enjoy the dynamics between them, so it's very entertaining to watch.
Also, as for OUAT in Wonderland - I have no idea how they'll manage to do so many things in one episode but I'm always hoping for a happy ending so fingers crossed! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh I am so sorry, I had totally forgotten that I'm watching the show 1 week behind everyone else! SORRY!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. That's okay ;) Correcting it now. Thanks for pointing it out @Ralph Hartman!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Honorable mentions:

Brooklyn Nine-Nine- Season Finale: Jake confess his feelings for Amy as he leaves for his undercover job. Such a great moment that felt actually organic. Season 2 can't come any faster!

The Middle: Darrin meets Sue at the prom and get back together: Really poignant, a great conclusion for a great episode

    ReplyDelete
  22. Watch the promo to find out if he's alive... :D

    ReplyDelete
  23. No problem. I had just finished watching the finale about a hour before this was posted.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's what I thought. Jafar says to Amara "Your son is dying, Amara." So he's not completely dead :p
Well they'll end happy, I'm sure of it.
There's Alice's daughter in the cast of the last episode so, you know......... :D

    ReplyDelete
  25. That (about the daughter) I did not know. Thanks ;) Fingers crossed!

    ReplyDelete
  26. You should take a look at the press release of this episode ^^

Absolutely loved the scenes mentioned above from The Mentalist and Nashville, too. And Reign! Another amazing week of television :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Great job Justyna! Always look forward to this every Sunday! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  29. That scene from The Mentalist was great and a wonderful send off for Rigsby and VanPelt. Cho smiling is a rarity but always good to see!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thank you! My pleasure :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. This ep of The Mentalist would have been a super ending to the series.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The Walking Dead scene (so happy!), Nashville, The Mentalist, Reign, and Person of Interest scenes mentioned (especially Reese shrugging off the fall, lol ).

OUAT: David and Rapunzel facing their fears

Resurrection: Jacob's mother cries over his shirts. So sad.

Being Human: Josh faces his wolf.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Psych for sure! The rest can suck iiiiiit. I've heard it both ways.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Revenge: Emily at the opera house, and Conrad beating the new guy at tennis, proving once more that the Graysons are hard to beat. At most things.
HIMYM: Robin & Barney after she bumps into the mother, and then the actual wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Tonya Papanikolas30 March 2014 at 23:13

I considered the Good Wife but just couldn't include anything from it this week because they weren't my "favorite" scenes - they were awful! Well done, but a blow to the gut (or heart). Definitely not my favorite. That's why I couldn't pick them in my favorite scenes. :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Tonya Papanikolas30 March 2014 at 23:17

She did do a great job! I told Justyna I considered picking a scene from The Good Wife and then realized that I couldn't in good conscience pick anything as my "favorite" scene because I hated what happened so much. (Sob, sob.) They did it really well and I recognized that but I couldn't vote for any of them as my favorite. So they're not in the poll this week, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Tonya Papanikolas30 March 2014 at 23:18

    Totally agree!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Tonya Papanikolas30 March 2014 at 23:19

Oh, you're so right. I'm still hoping maybe the show will get renewed and we will have another season. Maybe in denial, but hoping. :) It was a great episode. (Even with Jane crying like a baby as he was going to get his fingers cut off. That made me laugh.)

    ReplyDelete
  39. start_wearing_purple30 March 2014 at 23:39

-HIMYM the wedding, specifically the ring bear.
-Person of Interest, the falling from the window scene. Fusco has the best one-liners.
    -The Blacklist, Red and Liz.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The Good Wife-still blocking it. Simply can't handle it
    The Americans-Loved that pick!
Nashville-it was an excellent episode and a great scene but for THE scene would have pick the Rayna/Maddie conversation backstage.Really powerful scene (and more important to main storyline)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Honestly I don't always consider the scenes I pick my favorite. By scene of the week sometimes I mean scenes that are really memorable or important for the show like my choice with Teen Wolf last week. It depends on many things. Of course there are exceptions, like when the scene is really brutal cause even though it's significant I skip it or watch it with closed eyes. Probably one of the main reasons why I always describe and explain my picks in the article ;)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Tonya Papanikolas31 March 2014 at 22:31

Oh, that's good to know. Thanks, Justyna. I will consider that in the future! (I don't know where I got "favorite.")
