I'm surprised Elementary is in danger of being canceled. The past few episodes have slipped in terms of creativity but I like the season overall. Hannibal is very creative. Intelligence is getting better as it goes.

ReplyDeleteRevolution deserves another season, season 2 has been so incredibly good and such a sharply improvement over season 1, it makes me think a third season would be beyond awesome.
ReplyDeleteAlmost Human earned its renewal rating wise by improving its rating even with bad schedule and only going down against The Olympics, it's resilience it's outstanding, it totally justifies another season.
Community has been steady and I would love to see a 6th season so they can have their #sixseasonsandamovie
Of the shows above, I only watch The Tomorrow People. It's bound to get cancelled, ratings-wise, and it's not really a great show... it's quite uneven in its quality and often frustrates me. So really, if it gets the ax I won't cry foul or anything. However, I do enjoy the show and think they've got a nice mythology going on that could grow and develop further in Season 2. The action and effects are solid and I like most of the characters. It doesn't "wow" me like my favorite shows do, but it's a decent enough way to spend 42 or so minutes of your free time, and I hope it makes the cut against all odds.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, unless they find a way to monetize international ratings, it doesn't matter if 50 million viewers overseas watch every episode. Networks operate like any other business - they only stick with products (in this case shows) that make them money.
ReplyDeleteThe studio does make money off international sales of shows which can sometimes make an impact. Nikita would've probably not lasted as long as it did if half-Vietnamese Maggie Q hadn't been a marketable action star in Asia, because its US ratings were dreadful. The studio, which produces the show, can try to offer it to the network for a low license fee so the network renews it despite low ratings. However, in this case I doubt BatB's performance in international markets makes THAT much of a difference that the studio would pull out all the stops to sell more episodes to The CW.
I don't know who put it into the list above, but Elementary is certain to be renewed. They recently closed an extremely lucrative syndication deal where the studio will make a fortune off every additional episode. It's safe for the next couple of years, at least, unless something happens to make approximately 90% of the viewers jump ship.

ReplyDeleteI think it's obvious that poll questions like "Which show deserves to be renewed?" translate into "Which show, in your opinion, deserves higher ratings because of its quality and therefore to be renewed?". (Or in short, "Which show do you wish would be renewed?") No one is under the illusion that quality dictates networks' decisions, especially since it's open to interpretation, unlike the show's performance. The "deservedness" of the renewal reflects the viewer's feelings about how well the show deserves to perform, not on whether or not it should go on despite the fact that it's a commercial failure.

Of course people are going to vote for the shows they like because they wish they'd stick around, even if that doesn't make commercial sense. There's no need to rub it in for them by saying none of the shows deserve renewal because their numbers are low. We all know that's what's actually going to happen, but people are allowed to say they wish it wouldn't.

ReplyDeleteIt depends on if the show is still good and is keeping it fresh. Star Crossed is incredible and totally different to what I thought it would be. I wish people would give it a chance. So much mythology and sci-fi half way in, the problem is its casting.. i'm shipping the leading guy with the leading girls BFF.. stupid casting but its still good and very original IMO.
ReplyDeleteBATB & TCD have boring plots and average casting with nothing new to offer.. i'd rather see the 100 and Star Crossed get more episodes than those being renewed. I have fallen out of love with Revolution but plan to catch up when the season is over so I hope its renewed.. Dracula could go either way, it was wrapped up lovely but i'd love a second season.

I read somewhere that unless Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ratings to a point where advertisers start pulling funds that ABC will still renew it. Basically this is their only major show where they have more male viewers than female viewers and they're afraid losing it will lose out on future projects.

When you throw the word deserve in there it's a different ball of wax. 'Deserve' is a very specific, very strong word that I believe gets thrown around too casually.

ReplyDeleteI must say I agree with Alex. For example I can say Revolution or The Tomorrow People deserve another season, even though their ratings aren't that great. The question is not whether they "should" be renewed, looking from the networks' point of view, but whether the actors, who in my opinion are GREAT "deserve" to keep their job, and whether the showrunners "deserve" to keep writing, which they do. To be honest, if you're just gonna downvote every show on the list, you shouldn't even vote at this poll. This poll is for the fans of struggling shows, who are pretty powerless when it comes to renewing shows with low ratings, and therefore it feels just a little good to be able to see that you're not the only person struggling with a show that's not doing well. It's basically just wishful thinking, and if that makes someone feel better, then no one should come here and ruin that.

Almost Human is on the fence, but I think it deserves it, especially if season 1 was just supposed to set up the world and season 2 is where they'll actually start focusing on the actual story. Enlisted definitely deserves it; it is somehow the second funniest show on TV right now even though this level of quality makes no sense given its premise.

Some are really good but just don't offer enough potential to deserve the renewal over other shows, and some are past their prime, so to speak.

ReplyDeleteABC hasn't officially renewed anything yet (I think), but it seems very unlikely that AoS will be cancelled. It's performing above-average for ABC, albeit not as well as they expected, and they don't have the luxury of letting it go in favor of betting on a new show that might do worse.
ReplyDeleteYeah, young males are an elusive and coveted demo, and the fact that AoS is one of the few shows to capture it is a big advantage. It should help AoS make the cut even if its overall 18-49 are unimpressive (at least relative to the big budget).

ReplyDeleteI don't watch Star-Crossed, but I agree that it's a show The CW has regarded as filler, not a venture with potential - like Cult last year. Premiering it in a tough slot with no support from a high-rated show, and against the Winter Olympics, simply did not give it a fair shot. Also, I haven't been following the promotion, but I hear they focused on promoting The 100 come midseason and didn't do much for Star-Crossed.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for the fans S-C has accumulated, and will continue to over the course of the season, because it never really stood a chance. TTP, Reign, The Originals and soon The 100 were all given a fighting chance by being paired with successful shows, but not S-C.

ReplyDeleteI really want Almost Human to be renewed. I really liked the first season and I'd like for that to get a second season. I also voted for The Tomorrow People - I've been watching that and I think it's pretty good. Revolution is another show I voted for - I liked the first season, I think the second season is even better so I'd like to see a third season for that show.
The only show other show I watch (and down-voted) is OUATIW. I like OUAT so I decided to give OUATIW a shot but I usually get way behind and it just isn't nearly as good as OUAT so if it doesn't get another season I don't think I'll miss it at all.
I haven't seen Star-Crossed but the impression that I got from the promos is that it's a knock-off of Roswell so that's why I haven't really been interested in watching it.
ReplyDeleteI can't emphasize enough how different Star-Crossed is from Roswell. It would honestly be like saying The Vampire Diaries is a knock-off of Dracula.

ReplyDeleteI think S2 is a lot better than S1. The writing has gotten a lot better and I think Charlie's character is now everyone's favorite because the actress is better at playing a badass than over dramatic scenes.
ReplyDeleteI love the show because it's sci-fi and it has action. Sometimes the plot can be stupid but I'll choose Revolution over any procedural/cop show/medical show.
I wish it was a Roswell knock-off. I would have given it a chance.

The last 8 episodes of Season one starting to pick up but Season 2 has been fantastic! Charlie grew up and came into her own this season. Actually they all came into their own this season,this is how the story that should have been told from the beginning.

ReplyDeleteAlmost Human, but if and only if the writers decide to make it a *lot* more serialized. Season one had promise but was awfully dull sometimes, so often I just don't care about the COTW. Also Enlisted. On ABC, Trophy Wife, on NBC I'd like Dracula and Hannibal to both return (and AAB but hopefully the ratings don't go down any more) and on The CW TTP.
ReplyDeleteThe Secret Circle has been the only CW show I ever got truly upset about it's cancellaton, and there's nothing close on their schedule now that would make me as upset either, haha.
ReplyDeleteWhat a season for me. I love almost every single one of the endangered shows. Ahhh! Especially #BATB, Mentalist, Revolution, SHIELD (not sure that last one is in too much danger, but we'll see).

ReplyDeleteI like Enlisted and want it to be renewed but frankly just like Brooklyn 99 it sometimes has really boring eps, and sometimes really funny ones. They can't keep the show steady and it the problem, the pilot was great, the second episode almost made me drop it, the third was great again and so on.

ReplyDeleteThats the problem with the supremacy of the fans of the high rating shows, they become so judgemental ...Just because we watch a low rated show doesnt mean we are mentally immature and you can't judge a whole fandom for a few people. I personally love BATB, and the passion we have for this show is beyond your understanding. In another note, I watch and follow shows as GOT, TWD, Masters of Sex, Vikings, Sleepy Hollow etc. but these shows are monsters I cant get as invested as I am with BATB because they have the ratings and they will get renewed for a fact. Personally, I dont think is the quality of the show that will attracts ones attention but more what we look for and what we can get back as a viewer. People just needs to stop being so mean to other fandoms just because you dont like a show, why the bashing?!
ReplyDeleteThe Goldbergs and Enlisted are my top votes. They are great comedies with lots of heart and laughs. Next would be Almost Human and then Trophy Wife and The Crazy Ones. I only realistically have hope for The Goldbergs.

ReplyDeleteThat depends on whether the network wants it to be more serialized. The concept started out that way but higher ups wanted a more procedural type show.
ReplyDeleteAlmost Human even though I would ideally want it another network and if not, only if FOX will let it air with the dignity it deserves as in let Wyman do his thing without forcing this to become a cop show. Elementary is already renewed and AoS will not be cancelled. Its a bit early isn't to assume Hannibal is in danger of cancellation but if it is it deserves another season.
